    This cowl neck is beautiful. The pattern is easy to follow; however, I did have difficulty seeing the technique of the Brioche stitches due to the darkness of the yarn. The bind off technique that you used made the final result seemless and flawless. I'm going to add this tutorial to my "favorite" list. Thank you...

    Have you always knit continental? I learned American and it's been so hard to convert to Continental!

    • @YayForYarn
      @YayForYarn  2 роки тому

      I began with English style, but switched as soon as I discovered Continental. I crocheted first (right handed), so I was already comfortable holding the yarn in my left hand. I have a video on Continental Knitting here: ua-cam.com/video/LsFZg2Bn06E/v-deo.html I hope this helps!

    What kind of circular needles do you have? They are pretty.

    • @YayForYarn
      @YayForYarn  6 років тому

      Hi! I am using KnitPicks Options Interchangeable Circular needles. They are made from Laminated Birch. These are the best needles I have tried, and I've been using them for almost 4 years. They also have fixed (non-interchangeable) circular needles, short circular needles, straight needles, double-pointed needles, and crochet hooks. They come in several beautiful colorways, but I think the Rainbow colorway I have in the video above is being discontinued soon, as the site says they are on clearance and not coming back. (I think the other colorways are even prettier, though, so I don't mind.) I have reviewed several types of birch needles from this brand in several colorways, here: ua-cam.com/video/oirroJDr3Dg/v-deo.html here: ua-cam.com/video/wir6rPhOkY4/v-deo.html and here: ua-cam.com/video/PIi3J1EdHxE/v-deo.html You will find my affiliate links to those products in the descriptions of each video review. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks!

    I tried this but why are my knit stitches. Uneven I tried pulling them tight it’s not working

    • @YayForYarn
      @YayForYarn  6 років тому

      Hi Helen. When you work a Knit 1 Below, and the stitch above drops and unravels (as it is supposed to), the stitch you knit into will get a bit longer than it originally was. You will have to pull and stretch the fabric in all directions to get the stitches to situate themselves correctly. If the stitches are still uneven or distorted, and the fabric doesn't look like it is supposed to, perhaps you could send me a picture of your knitting on Facebook (facebook.com/YayForYarnByMGG/) so I can see it. That would help me better determine what the problem might be. I am happy to help!

      Help, when I drop a stich I cant seem to reconstruct it so I end up ripping it out. I love the pattern but cant get past the first color. Is there a way to fix one row of dropped stitches?

    • @YayForYarn
      @YayForYarn  6 років тому

      Hello Debra! It is possible to fix mistakes / pick up dropped stitches in this stitch, but it is very difficult to explain in writing. I will put this topic on my “to-do list” for videos I need to make, but it will be awhile before I can make a video on this. I will try my best to write this so it will make some sense.
      Think of the brioche fabric as a k1, p1 rib for a moment. The “knit” columns on the right side are “purl” columns when viewed from the wrong side, and vise versa. To fix a mistake or dropped stitch, the work must be turned so that the dropped column is facing you as a “knit” column. Work across the row in brioche stitch until you reach the dropped column of stitches.
      If you look closely at the brioche fabric, you will see that each “knit stitch” in any column has a strand of yarn running over the top of the loop that is that stitch. The loop above it has been pulled through both the loop and that strand of yarn. So with the crochet hook, pick up the top remaining stitch in the dropped column. Normally, when you fix a dropped stitch in stockinette, you would “grab” the horizontal strand of yarn above the current loop on the hook. Then you would pull that strand through the loop to create a new loop, and continue that process until you use up all the horizontal strands. Then you’d put the loop back on the left needle.
      For Shortcut Brioche stitch:
      1. Insert the tip of your crochet hook under the first horizontal strand, but don’t “grab” it with the hook. It should just sit on the hook right above the current loop.
      2. Grab the second horizontal strand with the hook and pull it under the previous strand and through the loop on the hook.
      Repeat these steps until you have one horizontal strand left. Don’t do anything with that strand yet. Place the loop that is on your crochet hook back on the LEFT knitting needle. Then, pick up that last horizontal strand and place it on your left needle with the loop. This will count as a “yarn over”. Normally, in the shortcut brioche stitch you would “K1below” into the next column of knit stitches. Instead, knit the loop (that was just placed on the needle) together with the “yarn over”. Now you can finish the row of shortcut brioche stitch as normal.
      I hope this helps! If this is not clear, please let me know and I will try to explain it better.
      Thanks!

    If I want to make it bigger would I just increase the cast on number pleaee

    • @YayForYarn
      @YayForYarn  4 роки тому +1

      Hi! Yes, to make the cowl larger, you would add stitches to the cast on. You'll need to cast on an even number of stitches. I hope this helps!

    How many rows did you make for the 8inches?

    • @YayForYarn
      @YayForYarn  6 років тому +1

      Hello! The exact number of rows it will take to reach 8 inches will depend on your exact gauge. In my cowl, it took me 52 rounds to equal 8 inches. So, each of my color sections were 52 rounds, for a total of 156 rounds, but that can vary a little depending on your exact gauge. Hope this helps! Thanks!
