What a beautiful yet simple and delicate low tech setup! Please come visit Malaysia! You’ll love the vibrancy of aquascapers here! Kudos on the black water!
I do planted tanks with sand from my yard (I can't justify buying sand when I live in Florida). At first I tried to battle the tannins that came with it, but learned it's so good for many fish as this is the type of environment they evolved in. Now, I love it! Once the water is totally clear, but still has that copper/brown color it's so pretty!
100% I just got started in the hobby by way of 3 surprise tanks for my kids from thier grandmother...now about to try a legit aquascape for my wife in a 36 gallon bow front. Personally I love the tannins. Crystal clear water looks sterile, unauthentic
Yes, the sand! Over time all the leaf litter, bark, wood, etc. decomposes in the sand and the tannins stay there. Where I am the ground has hardpan deep down, which is compressed tannin rich material. Particles of it are in the sand. @@joshfly3331
Nice effort working with that root scape, not always the easiest esthetically to use. The red cats were cool. Not fighting the tannins worked well here.
So beautiful! That betta reminds me of my boy. I’ve been feeling the urge to rescape his tank. I might have to borrow some of you ideas. Love the whiptail catfish too
Lovely scape. I would have replaced the C. helferi for a Vallisneria or something else. In my experience, once it starts dying off it will become such a nuissance taking the brown leafs out every now and then. I love the plant though, its pretty but i’ve never had long term success with it. Groeten!
Have been waiting for this video, I'm really excited to see how it turned out! Such an artist with aquariums. Enjoyed talking to you in the store when you had just set up the special type of wood. Those plants on the wood really makes it all feel really natural.
Very beautiful setup.❤ you'ce done well by keeping it as a blackwater setup. Its betta's natural habitat. I keep Caridina shrimp, dwarf and chilli rasbora, harleqin rasbora, kuhli loaches and Otocynclus in community.I don't keep dwarf and chilli rasbora with Harkequin's and female betta as i've found they snap at them.
Wow nice variety. I’m Malaysia it’s almost forbidden to keep other species with the betta. Almost sacred to have King Betta have the tank all to himself. But seeing other people grow other stock in with Betta is encouraging.
Really beautiful scape, i'll re-do my Dennerle 55 liters this week, i'll go to the shop with my aquarium so they can suggest me the best choices for my new aquascape (since my current one doesn't convince me very much)
You are motivating me always to not give up this beautiful hobby. Thank you for that. Do you think that this little neons could start to attack the big fins of this betta? Regards from Vienna
In most cases here in Malaysia, Betta are from this region of the world. Between us and the Thai’s we know that it could go the other way around. Betta can attack tetras easily if provoked. Factors can be tank size is too small and over crowding. You could add the tetras and find some balance and harmony if you had a nice big enough tank. If it’s anything never mix Siamese algae eaters because they will attack the betta’s beautiful fins.
I have the 1-2mm crystal quartz substrate by Dennerle, I really hate it. It is soo dense and locking together that all the detritus stays perfectly on top - making the aquarium consistently dirty.
So nice! I am thinking about setting up a betta tank for my next project. I like seeing what kinds of other fish can live peacefully with them. I also need to find a nutrient base like the one you used in the US. I am running into trouble with my existing planted tank because I only used soil capped with sand and a bunch of root tabs. I think I need something that lasts and slowly feeds the roots without going acidic. I don't know.
@@mikhailmerican4745 I don't know, I'm kinda new to the whole planted tank thing. I set one up in January this year, and then noticed how low my ph was getting. I kinda freaked out, but now I am not so worried about it. I did add some crushed coral, because I thought it needed some buffer. I don't think the more experienced fishkeepers worry about it as much as I did.
Just a quick question. I plan on setting up a Caridina tank. Is the Aquario Neo Soil good to use? ADA Amazonia is expensive at my place and i don't like the look of Akadama, so that's why I'm looking for an alternative
Cheers! Can you tell me please what do you use to clean the tank/glas? Is windows cleaner & Isopropanol ok? Ofc going to wash it out with clean water afterwards ...
Were they fish you didnt mention spot tail algae eaters? Beautiful scape but ive deducted a point for using a long finned Betta. He is a stunning colour though.
I hope you charged them for this tank - that's a piece of the art
😍😍😍👍👍👍
I’m sure the favor is returned one way or another. Sometimes good will is better and more valuable than money.

Kudos on the black water!
Ik heb hem gezien in de Rifwachter. Ziet er schitterend uit!❤
Top scape MJ! Ik ga hem snel eens bekijken in de Rifwachter!
What a beautiful tank setup. Wow! Can't decide which fish I love the most, they are all amazing.
Gorgeous! I'm not even into tannins in the water but this is nice. Throw some ember tetras in there too.

Are the tannins coming from the sand? I thought it was mostly the wood in the tank

Tried this with the exact same combination of fish, same size tank, and very similar layout. The tetras basically ate the betta's fins off.
Absolutely stunning as always
Very nice, thank you for sharing. I'm currently setting up a 14 gallon cube for a Betta and some schooling fish.
You can see details that are not hard to miss, it's just done specifically. Good job 👍😎
Favourite set up so far. Really enjoyed that one.
One of my favorite tank you made !
Careful the rhineloricarias grow quite big !
Finally, new dose of MJAQUASCAPING 😌

Nam me vrouw mee naar de Rifwachter die dacht dat we koffie gingen drinken maar inderdaad een mooie zaak met een ruime selectie mooie vissen
Great looking tank. I like the natural style you went with.
Very nice blackwater setup.
Beautiful build as always! Fun shop experience, I enjoyed the surprise blackwater. Thought you didnt like cyperus helferi though!

Gorgeos setup, so beautiful cories!
PERFECT......
Terima kasi mstr... Anda sangat membantu say a👍👍
beautiful scape! well scaped MJ!
Liked the fish selection for sure
Very nice. Love the fish choices!
Wish the states had an aqua shop like that! At least in my state we have like 2 ok ish places outside of chain stores 😵
Beautiful tank and the betta 🤩 love the little catfish too.
Very nice.
The end result looks so good! The 2 flat stones in the fron looks really cool...hope it grows in nicely and we get to see the matured look...
Once again this helps me relax😂
Nice

Hello my friend, you are sharing nice posts.
Nice tank! Ive never seen these catfish before, need to google about them :D
You make it look so easy :D
Can you give us an update on the pink nano reef!? Love your videos by the way ♥️
Coming next sunday! :)
@@MJAquascaping thank you!
Great Betta community 👍🏻
what do you think of doing a side by side dark vs dry start method and the impact of the pro and cons of both method in term of plant growth
stunning tank. thank you!

I don't think so, but I've never had this combination before so we will have to see :)

you stay on point
Nicely done
Heel mooi!
I see that you probably have fallen in love with these catfish, as you showed us you brought some home as well. Awesome fish indeed 😊

Don’t all aquasoils go acidic in time?

Can we add Beta Fish with other fishes?
Yay another video
Is it a prerequisite for aquascapers to have massive guns?
😂
Where did you get your shelf for the aquariums?
Cypress helferi always melts, nothing about it is easy !
Where is that shop MJ?
Im doing terrible😅 having coffee and biscotti😅
Horrible! 😂
No jokes, I am literally watching this video with a coffee and some Mulino Bianco cookies 😂. Great minds speak alike

Yeah I like the Neo soil 👍🏻
Odd to see an eel in the top left tank at the beginning of the video. For me those are food, not decoration :P
What fish food do u use??
I had to remove my green alien betta from my scape that had green neons.. the green neons nipped the hell out of his tail.
Cheers! Can you tell me please what do you use to clean the tank/glas? Is windows cleaner & Isopropanol ok? Ofc going to wash it out with clean water afterwards ...
Yeah I always use window cleaner :)
@@MJAquascaping Thanks!
Bro MJ... Still spraying them pants on I see! Tell me more about that lightscreen please!
😂 yeah de lightscreen is from chihiros, available in loads of sizes, connects to the app and there you can change the intensity and make schedules.
@@MJAquascaping awesome! I have been looking for something like this for my 33long, thank you for sharing
@@MJAquascaping also how would you feel about an rotala only semi dutch style scape?
Another good one…Thanks MJ
That betta's going to destroy them neon's no?
No bettas cannot catch any fast fish neons are too fast and slipper to catch.
Were they fish you didnt mention spot tail algae eaters?
Beautiful scape but ive deducted a point for using a long finned Betta. He is a stunning colour though.
I was wondering that too lol
Just my opinion but I don’t like this one. Sorry!
That's totally fine :) Thanks for being honest!
