Thanks for posting. I broke one of my rules of ten gallons or bigger, brought some furniture from my nieces apartment to a thrift store and the had a brand new five gallon for twenty five cents so betta tank. Plants and spider wood thinking kuhli loach but maybe one of the larger shrimp. Have to think on it.
This is the most helpful video I’ve watched on the subject. I just got a 30 gallon tank and so far have just a bunch of plants and 1 betta. I’m definitely going to add snails, kuhli loaches, and those colorful shortfinned fish you mentioned towards the end. I still need to add more hiding spots as well. Planning on doing so next pay check😅
My betta’s in with an african featherfin, many different corydora and tetra species, african dwarf frogs, mystery and small snails, and a pleco. He is interested in everyone and likes to go around and calmly observe everyone and even has a few friends that he’s often with. He’ll eat with everyone even the corydoras at the bottom sometimes. He’s never poofed up even once and even shares his betta log with the frogs where you can often see them just laying on each other. He interacts with me a lot top. It helps that my entire community are all amazing friends even the featherfin is a gentle giant!
Great information here Cory, I’ve found through my experiences that most peaceful tropical fish can go nicely with male betta just as long as they don’t have long wide fins/similar fins like the betta
I currently keep harlequin rasbora, chili rasbora, kuhli loaches as well as amano and blue velvet shrimps with a betta. The betta barely notices the shrimps but he started chasing the chilis the first few days. He seem to have gotten tired of doing so without much reward and ignores them now and instead just usually just goes around the rocks picking up tiny snails, ostracods and the occasional mosquito larva.
I have a half moon king Betta in my 15 gal and he’s pretty chill. I have a trapdoor snail, three golden striped loaches, a hilly, and a school of fancy male guppies. I feed them all different food and they get on great. I do plan to upgrade to a 30 gal once we buy a home. I love keeping the rake in the main living area. Because they’re all so relaxing to watch
Your video was great timing for me as I bought a male Half Moon Betta 3 days ago and added it to a small 36 liter (~9.5 US gallons?) tank which has just 3 male Endlers (with small tails). I have had the 3 Endlers in there for about 7 months. So far so good with the betta. He doesn't go for them at all so far. They really kept their distance for ~24 hours because I guess they have never been in a tank with a much larger fish before. So I was really glad to see Endlers in your top 10 tank mates! Hopefully that holds true for my smaller type tank too. I'm hoping that things stay peaceful even when he tunes into feeding time. At the moment the little guys are getting most of the food and he gets the idea after a while. When he knows the feeding routine better, I hope he lets them get some without any violence. Thanks again, your videos are great.
I had my betta in my community tank, he was awesome! Then my husband got a crayfish and put that in the community tank, so many things were wrong with that. The biggest problem was crayfish and betta do not mix -- so now Betta has his own planted tank and thinking of getting him more company besides snails and plants so this was a great video to give me ideas!
Been keeping fish a long time , always bigger fish like oscars and African cichlids. Over the last year since finding aquarium coop I’ve almost completely switched to community and planted tanks (12 tanks 1 with ACs) maybe I’ll give bettas a try.
Thanks for the tips! I have found my bettas have done well with some of these suggestions. Obviously some bettas are just angry at everything lol, but I agree that they make a great showpiece fish in a community tank.
Currently have a male betta with a mystery snail, 2 nerite snails, and now a small school of green neon tetras. It's going very well! When I upgrade to a bigger tank, I'd like to add corys and some more tetras :)
I don't think I could keep a betta on his its own. Only ever kept them in community tanks and it makes them look even more amazing! Also, the footage in the clips were awesome!
My 2 betas tankmates are currently a 17” sailfin pleco, about 10 large clown loaches, some small cichlids, other random mid/top fish and an elephant fish + other random bottom dwellers
Ive got a 20 gal tank with a female veil tail and 6 female cherry barbs!! Ive also got 2 snails (a nerite and a mystery) and 10 ghost shrimp. Its great cause they all get along and while my betta tries to be a bully shes just too dumb to actually cause harm. Keeping them well fed really helps too
When I told my lfs that I was purchasing my Betta for a community tank, she looked at me as if I was crazy lol. She said that it would be a menace in there (47 gallon UNS loaded with plants) and that they were called "fighting fish" for a reason. Having been in the reefing game for nearly two decades I was worried about the opposite, in that his fins would likely be getting nipped as my first concern. I put him in with lots of other community type species and all was well from day 1. With my experience I'd say Bettas may very well be the most underrated fish in the fish game. Not only are the colors insane, the price for even the most colorful and exotic is basically pennies compared to saltwater. Great personality in a planted tank as well, interacting with the plants is fun to watch.
I have a Betta living in my 30 gallon community tank with 3 Bolivian Rams. I know I got lucky because my Rams and My Betta are all really chilled. There was a minor scuffle when I first introduced him to the tank, the Rams tried to gang up on him, but he saw them off quickly & now they have a mutual respect for each other, he even sleeps above them.
@5:30 another reason Id like the idea of my Betta eating the Bettas is, it's fresh food for him, food that's healthy, and has lived a good life, even though it's a short life. Bettas are carnivores, pellets are just a different form of meat
Kuhli Loaches are actually my favorite smaller fish. I love them. Bettas are my second favorite. So I always have both in a tank when I make a Betta tank.
I had one active red betta and today got a green glo fish, two common plecos, and a bunch of neocardian shrimp. the glo fish is getting flexed on a bit lol and the shrimp are getting chased for dear life but can hide well enough to breed i hope! cool stuff!
I have 2 solo bettas (1 steals all the corydoras food and the other enjoys randomly spearing the corydoras) and then another betta in with just corydoras. Then in my 29gallon I have my halfmoon betta, harlequin rasboras and corydoras! I absolutely love the big community tank.
I have my male betta in a planted 20 gallon tall with 6 ember tetra, 5 Khuli Loaches and an albino plecostomus. My betta is pretty chill though. He was housed with mystery snails for a while and left them alone too. I have only seen him go after an ember tetra once.
Cory I want to thank you for doing this video since I was still trying to pick out what I wanted to put in my second tank with another betta. I have never had Rasboras or corys until now. Picked up some cute Chili Rasboras and was amazed at how tightly they school, made me wish I had gotten a few more but there is time later to add more. Also picked up some Pygmy Corys and they are so cute and fun to watch. I am a Rasbora and cory fan now.
My betta lives with a group of stiphodon gobies and a breeding colony of CPD's, she does great! Doesn't mess with the stiphodons at all, and barely eats any of the baby cpd's.
Thanks for thelist man very clear and directly to the point, I'm getting teo female bettas and thinking of getting some food producer/cleaning team fory tank!
Just got a koi betta for my community tank and he is the cutest and sweetest thing ever. Hope he digs a 55 gallon blackwater more than a cup of blue water lol
We don't appear to have either the Singapore Shrimp or the Vampire Shrimp in Australia *but* we do have a Native species that has the fans and that is Australatya striolata (Riffle Shrimp). This species is available from most suppliers. As a side note, we have a rare Native species of shrimp known as the Charmeleon Shrimp (Caridina sp WA 4) some also call it the Ninja Shrimp. You may ask why? Well, the name says it all. 😊
Lol everything i've got in my 26 bow front with one of my bettas was mentioned in this video. 6 otocynclus, 5 chili rasboras ( I had 6 but lost one within 2 days ) some red cherry shrimp, which he doesn't care about at all luckily. also some ramshorn snails but those aren't really in there by choice haha. there's a couple dull blues and pink/orange ones, but most of them are brown.
We love your channel and your store! We've both taken up caring for fish (tetras, shrimps of all kinds, endlers, kuhli loaches, and bettas) in our little apartment.
I recommend long fin danios (Long Fin Slows Them Down) whether that be Zebra Danio, Leopard Danio, or Normal Finned Celestial Pearl Danios. Stir away from Giant danios as they get a little overwhelming for the betta. They can be nippers but with the long fins they have a hard time getting those fins. id also recommend Platy's specifically The Marigold Platy, This type of platy I find to be extremely hardy (more so the males as the females are harrased and usually die about 5-6 weeks in) so Maby have just 1 Male Marigold platy ( and 3 females if you want to be risky).
I have 3 female bettas in my 60 gal community with glo danios and glo tetras some plattys 4 rainbow sharks 2 dojo loches and a small dino bicher and they have been thriving the bettas all have there own hides and the sharks have there own hides that's how I avoid aggression and I make sure I over feed a little then just get out the left overs
Our tall 30 gallon always had one showcase fish, plus my favorite community tank fish. Bettas are great showcase fish! I have only run into one type of fish that was a problem for the betta, swordtails!
I've kept bettas in several of my community tanks, from 20 - 40 gallons. Never had a problem with tetras, corys, plecos, etc. I didn't keep them in tanks with gourami, wasn't sure that would work.
I got a molly, swordtail, guppy and platy tank with babies and 1 betta which helps with population control and they all live together in peace and since water flow is medium to high but not stressful for betta the betta is not aggressive because of the water flow
I think with snails it really depends on the temperament of your betta that would determine what kind of snails you can get. My betta couldnt care less that theres a snail sharing his space, hes in a 10 gallon, and I have a horned snail. The most I've ever seen my betta do to the snail is look at it, before quickly swimming away.
I have a 20 High that’s moderately planted with a male betta and 6 albino corydora because they contrast nice on the black substrate. Been thinking about adding a snail and seeing if the betta treats it well
I'm thinking of getting back into making an aquarium. My last aquarium included a Betta and surprisingly a red fin shark. They got along pretty well. I was gifted some guppies from a classroom tank when I was helping my stepmother clean out her classroom. Those things had babies and those babies had babies and so on. The guppies served as the primary food source for the tank and the guppies got flakes. Unfortunately I introduced another fish that I got as a gift a little algae eater. That turned out to be sick and the fish quickly died from the sickness. I was pretty attached to the Betta and Red fin so it was a tough loss.
I'm really sorry that happened :( I really was attached to my bettas too and was really upset when they passed away. They really have distinct little personalities and are pretty smart.
I have a wonderful blue Betta fish and banded kuhli loach. Unfortunately the loach has decided it likes to feed on the bettas bottom fin. How do I resolve this issue?

I've got my betta in a 15 gallon cube aquarium with a handful of guppies. Everyone gets along fine, and they seem to be doing well.
I've never really been interested in a Betta solo tank. But, I can definitely get behind this concept. Will keep in mind for future!
I'm very grateful to have found this channel because it has given me inspiration and ideas about my channel Betta Fish
I always love the Betta with a nice large school of neons!
Thank you for this video! I just got a free 29 gallon and am looking forward to doing my first community tank. This helped a lot!! :)
Lucky guy
I just learned about the Borneo sucker loach which is only an inch and a half. I'm excited to try one
Thanks for making this video! I’m thinking of getting a few mates for my beta!!! 🐠
Great video thank you for the visual on all the different options you gave!
My male Halfmoon Plakat lives with Brilliant Rasboras and Cory Cats. They get along great.
Google are listening! I was talking to a pro about getting bettas and what to pair them with, then I get this awesome video.
Nice.
I have a 30 gallon tall community. My betta loves it!!
Some great ideas. Never thought of a kilifish with one. Might have to get some lampeyes in the future!
Made a small order today it’s just a little past 3 in Iowa and it’s already shipped awesome
Not into Betta however, my daughter -in-law has one and I have been helping her. Thanks for the input.
All of our tanks have Betta in them such great fish they all have so much personality
These are all fantastic choices for a community Betta Fish
@5:30 another reason Id like the idea of my Betta eating the Bettas is, it's fresh food for him, food that's healthy, and has lived a good life, even though it's a short life. Bettas are carnivores, pellets are just a different form of meat
Kuhli Loaches are actually my favorite smaller fish. I love them. Bettas are my second favorite. So I always have both in a tank when I make a Betta tank.
I had one active red betta and today got a green glo fish, two common plecos, and a bunch of neocardian shrimp. the glo fish is getting flexed on a bit lol and the shrimp are getting chased for dear life but can hide well enough to breed i hope! cool stuff!
This video is right on time. I'm cycling my 29 gallon and wanted to do a betta in a community. Any thoughts on platies with the betta?
Mine loves his buddies the zebra danios
I have 2 solo bettas (1 steals all the corydoras food and the other enjoys randomly spearing the corydoras) and then another betta in with just corydoras. Then in my 29gallon I have my halfmoon betta, harlequin rasboras and corydoras! I absolutely love the big community tank.
Cory love your videos watching you from Australia 🇦🇺
Thank you so much, I recently bought a Betta and just today bought Neon Tetras, so far so good
I have my male betta in a planted 20 gallon tall with 6 ember tetra, 5 Khuli Loaches and an albino plecostomus.
Thanks Cory hope you have a grate week
My betta lives with a group of stiphodon gobies and a breeding colony of CPD's, she does great! Doesn't mess with the stiphodons at all, and barely eats any of the baby cpd's.
Jimmy! Loved the B-Roll at the end with the sign. Another great vid -Brandon
Thanks for thelist man very clear and directly to the point, I'm getting teo female bettas and thinking of getting some food producer/cleaning team fory tank!
thanks for this video. just starting out and the video was very informative 👌
Also we put frogs bit floating plants in our tank and our betta loves it. ❤
My male betta actually schools with the 15 neon tetra in my tank. Hes so peaceful with them. And they dont seem to mind him swimming with them
Mine loves his zebra danios in a school too he does his own thing but loves to watch them
Just got a koi betta for my community tank and he is the cutest and sweetest thing ever. Hope he digs a 55 gallon blackwater more than a cup of blue water lol
Thanks I have been planning on adding a beta to one of my 20 gallon tanks and this gives me some great ideas.
Bettas started me in the hobby - all mine have an oto and a mystery snail for company
We don't appear to have either the Singapore Shrimp or the Vampire Shrimp in Australia *but* we do have a Native species that has the fans and that is
Australatya striolata (Riffle Shrimp).
Betas are fun, someday I’ll get one when I have a compatible community tank.
Another great video by Cory and the gang! Full of useful information. Thank you. 😀
That was a water bug the one on the leaf. You helped me a lot
Love vids like this. Keep em comin!
White Clouds & Ramshorn snails. Works great! Also guppy-endler hybrids work well, especially in a sorority.
My embers and betta got along very well (they're still fine, they just got moved to different tanks lol).
I have a Green Dragon in a 5g with 5 White-Clouds and a Pygmy Cory. It’s my favorite tank in my house.
got mine in with rainbowfish been doing great for almost a year now
I got a molly, swordtail, guppy and platy tank with babies and 1 betta which helps with population control and they all live together in peace and since water flow is medium to high but not stressful for betta the betta is not aggressive because of the water flow
That red betta at 1:42... nice
all 3 of my tank mates are on this list :P 14 ember tetra, 2 hillstream loaches and 6 julli cory!
Thank you Cory!
Kuhli loaches are probably one of my favorite fish
I have a 20 High that’s moderately planted with a male betta and 6 albino corydora because they contrast nice on the black substrate.
Been thinking about adding a snail and seeing if the betta treats it well
Great i will remember this so when i set up a community tank i can get the listing you mention
Hmm blue betta, yellow guppies, and green plants. Makes a pretty tank.
Betta fish are the best 😀💕
one betta started my hobby now i have the same betta a year later in a twenty gallon with Cardinal tetras
I prepared my dad's old 10gal to get a betta and some plants, looking for some good friends 😊
My favorites: Dwarf chain loaches, dwarf corydoras, Cardinal tetras, guppies, amano shrimp, My cherry shrimp culls, Horned nerite snails, Ottos, Siamese algae eater. depending on tank size... of course.
Great video, as usual. Always so informative. Learning something new all the time. Thanks for that! 👍😃
Bro iv been wanting to get another one. Had on for a few years and lived his personality
