  • In this video, I upgraded my smaller balcony patio planter pot to a bigger one using a storage tote container bin I got from Home Depot. It's about 27 gallons which is about 2x bigger in capacity than my previous pond. I have it stocked with minnows and a couple of comet goldfish. You don't need to have a large back yard to have a water garden. I'm also using a simple Hamburg matten filter setup which is just a thick block of foam with a pump to help circulate and filter the water.

    I love this! Very beautiful pond!! I really want an indoor pond and I just happened to stumble across this video and im so inspired to make my own now! Also I already knew most of the basics you taught in this video but I still really enjoyed hearing everything explained. You explain everything in a way that is really understandable and not overwhelming to a new fish keeper. Thank you (:

    Nice video. You've got it pegged. Check out building your own wood frame pond, bigger and deeper if the balcony can hold it, and line it with pond liner vinyl. Very cheap. This project allows you to customize size, shape, depth, and have a more rustic look. Decorate the area and pond ledge with potted plants.

    Adding freshwater "plankton" and stronger rooting aquatic plants will remedy most of the problems listed here. I have 20+ assorted fish and 2 softshell turtles in a very similar setup. More plants, more plants, more plants.

    I might have missed it in the video but it's definitely worth mentioning that the common goldfish will need upgrading to a proper pond of several hundred litres as they mature.

    To Funny. I was viewing your video on the T8SG which I just purchased; I also am into aquariums and ponds in the yard. I also have tropical fish and breed Crystal Red Shrimp. Nice video :

    Nice. I did this last summer. Good idea doubling it up. I liked it so much that I made one in my basement with just one bin, has been going strong since august. Does bow out but so far no breaks in 10 mnths.

      I'm doing one bin and it's bowing. Is it really possible for it to break?

      @@tresjolieme81 anything is possible with plastic. So far it's been about year now but over time it could break or leak. Doubling it up would be safer.

    If you had ramshorn or malaysian trumpet snails, they wouldve done a good job of cleaning the substrate! Also the substrate is a good place for beenficial bacteria to grow. I have substrate and never clean it. My fish are fine!

      Can I use plecos as substitute for the snails?

    • @mandarinaquatics2591
      @mandarinaquatics2591 6 років тому

      If the water is warm enough, there is no reason why you can not use both. Malaysian snails will dig around in the substrate and lay eggs everyday. Plus they fall to the bottom when you do gravel siphoning. cleaning.
      Another tip would be to insulate your pond to regulate the temperature swings. Rocks and gravel will store heat during the day and release it at night. If your heating the pond, this will keep the running cost down.

  • @mandarinaquatics2591
    @mandarinaquatics2591 6 років тому

    Yes, let your water stand for 2-3 days.
    Water-conditioners are a waste of money.
    This is good advice for your drinking water too.

    I like that and it looks great but couldn't you just buy a fish tank for in your apartment? Or even outside?

    • @KenVersus
      @KenVersus  6 років тому +5

      Hi, yes those are all possible options. I have a couple of tanks inside already but I wanted a pond setup for the patio. When I was younger in our old house, we had a pond made out of a large kiddie pool dug into the ground in the yard. One day, I hope I can get a "real" pond. Thanks for watching.
