Thanks for responding to my comment😂
😢Idont`haveapond.
Hello, there is a natural way to prevent mosquitos in a small pond without fish : azolla. It's considered as a larvicide plant. It is used for this purpose in rice fields in Asia. I live in a tropical island with diseases such as dengue, chikungunya or zika and I use azolla to prevent mosquito coming into my mini ponds 🤓👍
Do you know if this affects dragonflies as well?
@@katelynncavanagh9673 😢
Does it affect frogs I have a frog pond I need frogs for slug control
That's amazing...thank you!
Im farming azolla in ponds and still have mosquito larvae problem. I live in tropics where Dengue is a big problem😕
This is actually really good timing lol. Just got home from going to the store and getting some fish for my pond.
Look for a polarized lens to cover the camera lens. It will help with the glare.
Hey I came here to suggest a polarizing filter too. They are adjustable, so depending on the effect you’re looking for, you just spin it as needed, you don’t have to take it on and off all the time.
Additional tips:
- Those fish gotta be fishes that enjoy these larvae. Minnows, bettas, etc. Big fishes like koi and arowana don't necessarily eat or hunt for them (especially if the larvae are scattered and that you're feeding them better food like shrimp). Also, my bettas ignore larvaes. I think they just prefer worms and pellets that I give them. I suggest schooling fishes.
- Water agitation would work but if you live where it's hot and humid, mosquitoes can be VERY determined. They can successfully lay their eggs while being pushed around on the surface (my water agitation is med so that probably contributed to that)
- I agree, mosquitoe dunks or changing the water regularly, by far works for me, for both ponds and aquariums
We have honey bees that drink from our 'ponds'. No dunkers there!
Solar pump idea was great suggestion.. Thanks!
The mosquito dunks work great. I use them in my 30 odd self watering planters have used them for about 20 years.
thank you so much for this video ☺️
The guppies take care of them for me but, the real problem is green water/ algae!!
Snails?
Freshwater class can work too
U can get shrimp, snails, plecos, and other algae eaters..
The problem was probably bacteria, without nutrients algae cant live or grow, test your water, aim for 0 nitrates/nitrites, koi bio balls work wonders
Just scrape the algaes off. Plecos poop so much and snails can infest the pond and your fish can get parasites.
Good information. Thanks Mike!
🤠🤠🤠
I personally prefer mosquito bits over the dunks :) I actually use the mosquito bits to get rid of fungus gnats too when they crop up in my houseplants
Thank you for the good tips love them thank you so much
So amazing work
Dragon Fly and Damsel Fly Larva also work really well... too the adults eat adults Mosquitoes as well..
Good info, now I knew about the fish and the dunks, but I like the water movement, maybe a little water fall or something.Thanks.
If I wanted to have that small patio pond and go the fish route for mosquito control, how and how often would I need to clean the ponds so the fish don't die?
2nd tip was very useful 👌
does mosquito dunk affect the beneficial bacteria in the aquarium /pond? pls help! tks
Do you know if the mosquito dunks are daphnia safe?
do you need a pump for aeration for the fish?
This is amazing! I just got mosquitofish for obvious mosquito pest control and impulsively bought a tank when I learned they’re not meant for lakes 😅
Now I’ve been keeping the tank full with lake water and two lily snippings and wondering how to make it look more lively (and safe) and I never think of transforming it into such a lovely mini pond type set up!
As a new and underprepared fish owner I was wondering where is the best place to get all these aquatic plants from? And could soil/sand from my backyard and lake do for planting them in?
They will thrive if there's enough shoaling available. Any shallow area with plants to hide among.
Nice pond, what kind of plants do you have? I just made a 150 gallon pond with 1 sliding turtle and a few gold fish and want to add plants to it.
I appreciate the tips on mosquito prevention. New subber here. MountainAngel trying not to get bit on new mountain property in California, USA
Really like the look of the over grown greenhouse pond 🤓
Lovely but do you want to get eaten alive by mosquitoes?
The dunk things are great. I have two black planters in the back, one in front. Each holds a couple of gallons of rainwater. Put a quarter puck in each in the spring, it takes about 2 weeks or less to work, problem solved. Have to put new piece in every 30 days or so, but that's no big deal.
Only issue is they're fairly expensive - about $30/six-pack in Canada.
Very nice video my friend 🤗👍🙋♀️
Where did you buy the lava rocks from?
what is that small pump u use?
Wow...that is a great tip :-)
Random but would you ever consider making a tank for an axolotl?
Sure timely of you posting this tips.. I have been having NEA officers checking on my out door aquarium for Mosquitoes. Upset about it ! On the bright side though I'm pretty sure there aint any mosquitoes breeding in my tank. They into it with tourch lights and came back 3 days later to take water samples and advised to do regular water changes... ugh~
I just caught some big mosquitoe fish in the creek and actually surprised me how big they can get
I have beehives. Will this hurt bees? Or other insects like butterflies?
Is there a video for cultivating the larvae
Circular polarizer filters on your cameras will help reduce and sometimes completely negate the water surface glare if you’re looking for a way to combat that.
I am harvesting water for watering plants. So I know a little oil will do it. But I dont know if it is good for plant life.
thanks bro
Nice work
THANKS!
Are the disks fish safe?
Hello, I have a question... I made a small garden pond recently. I got a problem with mosquitos larvae, and now I am wondering what fish can I put into water? My pond is really small, maybe 150x70cm... There is no filter or pumps... Just a stagnate water with some water plants... It is deep around 40cm... Is there any fishes that can survive in these conditions? Mosquitofish maybe?
Gold fish are cheap and easy...try!
My dumbass thought it was these mini tadpoles as a child
Same
I have a kiddie swimming pool with grow bags in it. Sort of an emergency setup. I just found mosquito larvae in it, so I poured vegetable oil in there. Hopefully it keeps them from leaving the water. Next year, I'm using PVC pipe to water my grow bags and there won't be any exposed water.
I thought for certain that BTI would be the ultimate solution for mosquito control, but then I found a study which claimed that it had adverse effects on Leptodactylus latrans tadpoles.
How do you keep the pond warm if you live in a country where it gets super cold during the winter and wanted to put let's say, guppies in there?
Pond de-icer
Sir there are many mosquitoes in the tub of my Lotus plant. Now what do I use to kill those mosquitoes?
Mosquito dunk safe for lotus and cat?
Burn oil on surface. Doughnuts I like them but difficult to get them in uk.
Lol a few years ago I tried a mosquito population control experiment by setting up a small outdoor goldfish pond in a big Tupperware container with a solar powered airpump filter, a bunch of fast growing water lettuce and a few feeder goldfish and some minnows. I didn't even have to feed them. They thrived in there all summer eating nothing but the beetles that fell in there and the mosquitos that kept laying their eggs in the one constant water source in the yard lol
The minnows are long gone, moved into the red eared slider enclosure and been eaten themselves but the goldfish still live in my girlfriend's dad's outdoor pond, still thriving in that murky water lol
How would you prevent the pond from overflowing when it rains?
Take the water out?
If you live in the South you can easily catch young mosquitofish in whatever ditch runs through the neighborhood. They are a very fun and wild fish tolerating usually unsat water parameters. And they're good-looking livebearers. No they can't crossbreed with guppies. And the are hot a "minnow." But they are savage to mosquitos.
Place.a board or a light blocking shield behind your pond and you will lose the reflection off the water when you film...plus polarized filter works great also.....thank for the videos
Great idea
If ya willing to sell some of your extra plants. Let me know. Although I live in Florida. Key west doesnt have any plants for fresh water ponds etc
Look up Waterscapes plant nursery, they located in Fl
Most if. Ot all is whole sell with them
..I just need a small amount
Dragonflies eliminate skeeters
Dang, the bunnies around you can jump!!! They can get all the way up there on your patio, I'd be scared.
making a pond and putting in dragonfly nymphs would definatley decimate mosquitos
I got ton of fish in my aquaponic and still got millions of mosquitoes.should i starve the fish for them to eat the larva?
Mosquito fish! 😂
Me:clicks on the video .....wait I don’t own a pond?? Well I love fish tank mike so....let’s continue
I put 2 dunks in a container 24 hrs ago. Most are still alive and maturing. Now I'm thinking about getting fish.
I need some affordable hardy pond plants? It’s about a 30 gallon pond. Any ideas anyone ? That can stay alive in 115 if need be in AZ desert. The pond is in the shade about 85% of the day. The heat is coming. Also do the dish in this pond need a filter like a UV filter or just the water movement?’ Let’s just say goldfish
Nice :)
Thanks 😁
👌
Is it pond season again yet?!?!
How about getting rid of frogs??
You look like Matthew Brodricks twin!!
Put some guppy easy!!
My sister feeds larvae to her fish like a snack 🍽🦟🐟
Pls. Make more vids
Aquatic bladderworts will also eat the larvae.
What about mosquito fish?
Will mayfly larvae eat my white clouds and rife fish?
You can always drop soap in ponds naturally formed during rainy seasons
Minnows and danios are the best if water isn't hot
I shall always scream jello
For fish to eat the larvae, if you live in a tropical/subtropical area Guppies, if you live in a colder area Mosquito fish
You don’t have a mosquito problem though. I live in the city and I really can’t figure out where they’re coming from and traps don’t help I think it’s potentially the sewers or trash or on the roofs the gutters are clogged and I can’t go there
What if you want to create a pond to attract dragonflies but want to keep the mosquitoes from laying eggs?
Mosquito's and TICKS!!!
UGH
cool Tee shirt
Whats hated more...wasps or mosquitoes?
🤔🤔🤔
Mossies.
Ticks
Sundews eats mosquitoes or anything really. Plant it near your pond.
How do you keep the minnows in your outside small pond when it floods? Lol
I think maybe you can create overflow holes before the actual rim and cover them with some netting so the fish ont get out
We were shocked to find the local playground pond totally infested with mosquito larvae. There are a few frogs and firebelly salamanders. Do they eat the larvae? If no, do those pucks harm thr frogs and salamanders?
You should bring it to the attention of your mayor.
Missouri.. horrible with mosquitos
I think fish answer the question...
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👍
Guppies will help depollution
I use mosquito fish
There's no way that mosquitoes can survive in a pond with a fish, if its not that large. My pond has a 500 water in it, I don't see any mosquitoes in there.
I heard that putting one teaspoon of oil per gallon in the water suffocates the larvae. That being said it’s not good for ponds with fish in them.
It's not good for the plants either, mine died. They're the type that pokes out of the water
Another tip: if you have fish in the pond just put methylene blue, they'll die
I gardened for my parents this weekend. I came home with 30 bites all over my body 😔
Pour some oil on the surface of the water. Blocks oxygen from the larvae and prevent mosquitoes laying eggs.
Today I got 50 bite
Kim pond
Mosquito fish :p
I won't to see the bunny
What about Doritos?
Get a water prof camera
Fish will just going to eat the mosquito larvae...........
The biggest issue is lazy neighbors who grow larva in their poorly installed rain gutters and large fountains, open trash cans and buckets.
