    Seeing Dinosaurs with feathers on them does present contrast colouring options.
    The blue and yellow glaze blend towards the end of video does work. I've used contrast paints on some feathers hanging from my House Escher models.

    I have found wet blending contrast over slapchop so good for getting a similar result a bit faster. To avoid the tea stain effect in between changing colours i wet the area i am painting with a damp brush (not too wet) before painting.

    2:41 A reminder of the rules:
    1/ Don't dip the tip of the brush until you reach the mettallic thing, to avoid the liquid rising up into the bristles where you won't be able to clean it, which will damage the brush more quickly.
    2/ To avoid creating a 3rd color and wasting an expensive bottle, avoid putting your large brush still full of paint from the previous step into a new bottle, without having cleaned it properly.
    3/ Before painting, remember to say your prayers to Saint Giraldez and Saint Cavill.

      'widen' the blends, a few more steps, and a bit more dilution.

  • @minipaintingforyou
    @minipaintingforyou Рік тому +1

    Using contrast paint for layering seems unnecessarily complicated. Contrast paints are crazy expensive, why would I use them for a technique that can be done with thinned opaque paints?
    The result is amazing, no doubt about that!
    Contrast is for speed painting. You can absolutely achieve a wetblended colour transition. It’s not going to win golden demons, but it’s going to be speedy and painted 😂

    • @ArtisOpus
      @ArtisOpus  Рік тому +2

      How's it complicated? They're thinning-friendly, don't go patchy easily, and work well with medium, all of which I think make people's first testing or experimentation with glazing/blending more likely to be successful.
      Speedy is fine, not everyone has 30minutes to spend glazing with perfectly diluted ultra-high pigmented paints, although of course the quality of the result that can be achieved is probably far superior.
      It's all about picking a style that suits the user/requirement, army level and display level are very different things, right?
      Also, using paints like this doesn't use them quickly, so I don't necessarily think the price is an issue, using them like normal contrast, all over the model is when they go super-fast!
      What do you think?

    • @minipaintingforyou
      @minipaintingforyou Рік тому

      @@ArtisOpus I found contrast colours reacted differently to thinning with water, both from each other and regular acrylics. So using the right type of medium is prerequisite for the technique your showing. Considering all of the above doesn't scream "easy" to me 😅
      I'm sure for Michael Jordan, doing a 360 slam dunk was easy, but that doesn't make the action easy in and of itself...
      Do you happen to have a similar video with usual paints? I would like to watch your take on "difficult", I'm always looking to learn techniques currently beyond my skill level ☺️

    • @ArtisOpus
      @ArtisOpus  Рік тому

      @@minipaintingforyou That's fair, they differ in strength wildly, so like with normal pain there's no perfect ratio, as each paint needs more/less, with medium or water!

    This is one of the instances where contrasts actually work really well(color blends on small and/or textured details). This and diluting them into shades/glazes. I wish they actually worked for their intended purpose aka being a basecoat+shade in single paint. No matter how hard you try it's inevitable you'll end up with a blotchy finish, especially on bigger minis. Great video though!

      @@electrictrojan6719 that's true but there are some contrasts that are just impossible for me to get right. I'd rather just use the regular approach of basecoat+shade. Sure, it takes a lot longer but at least I'm guaranteed a result I want and I can fix a mistake if it happens. That's the other things I hate about contrasts, it's very hard to correct a mistake in a way that won't stand out.

      Love this convo, we'll definitely be covering some other ways to work (using shade style, rather than contrast) soonish. It's a big video on my '4-step' method, so it's in planning currently, but hopefully after the big 40k release we get some time to make a big piece on it :)

    15 days is far too early for a premiere. It clogs my subscriptions feed for no reason.
