Old enough to remember when we only had enamels. Humbrol 😂. The first GW acrylics really changed the game. It was so fast when you didnt have long enamel drying times to worry about.

Hey Byron! My recommendation for some technical/how to videos would be something Blood Bowl related. Small model count, creating fun, vibrant team uniforms, tying in a cohesive themes while giving each model a unique feel. More interesting basing ideas beyond static grass with white lines. Could also do some of your dry brushing tutorials for some of the stadia, scoreboard huts that are available. Personally I'm also not experienced with many of the water transfers you get for the players (numbers, team badges etc) so tips on how best to use those would be great.

I'd like a video on quickly painting an army. Especially practical bits like keeping your paint on the dry pallet moist. I find it hard to maintain the dry brush and sponge effectively if I paint for longer than ~20(?) minutes. Have started putting my colours on a wet pallet if a long session.
How do you 'go back' if you realise you missed a step on some models (or like, missed a leg on one model). That sort of thing.
How do you also pick the colour scheme and the basing approach? And how do you make sure you can replicate what you've done for new additions in the future?

Using enamels and oils is such a liberating experience once you get the handle of it. Great to know how it dries too as I was wanting to step away from the chalky look. Top tip I found was to to varnish with stormshield as it doesn't bead as much. Then you can carry on with acrylics as if thinners were never applied 🫡

Selfish review/tutorial recommendation: cracked earth basing, specifically for making large cracks. I'm planning to base my Skaven from Skaventide with big glowing green cracks as though the ground is about to tear itself apart with warpstone energy, but having trouble getting good/consistent results. The typical GW products seem to be thinner and give smaller cracks, I've tried following Trovarion's method using Golden Crackle Paste, and Midwinter Minis' method using corn starch, and a combination of the two, and have had some decent results, but equally many failures, even from base to base using the same method - it feels very random. So yeah, would really appreciate some help figuring out the secret!

It does! But what if I want them mainly in the recesses?

They look great, but nothing I can’t achieve without shades and contrasts from the other brands.

Personally, for me, grimdark isn't what the grimdark compendium puts out. Slathering the mini in enamels and oils and making it all blend together and loose details does not = grimdark. Trovarions grimdark is actually grimdark as its still very readable from a distance but grim and dark. Not saying you can't use these or shouldn't, they look great but use them in a way that wont destroy the mini

What do you think of our approach here?

    • @lilpain1997
      @lilpain1997 4 дні тому

@ArtisOpus this is great imo. I see people say it's not grimdark, but it does fit it nicely. It's desaturated, dark, but still visible. No details lost. I'll have to get the inks as I do a lot of grimdark and they are nice products it seems

This is an informative and concise video your style and knowledge of your craft is appreciated, Personally when a product is being pushed by all the vapid ass influencers at the same time its a big turn off.

That villainy ink box looks like its using AI generated art 👎

I’d be surprised if it was. I went and looked ay my boxes and none of it looks generated. Why do you think that?

I believe it's photography done by the creator from his desk and studio. Worth checking rather than assuming either way always though.

Oof. I never thought I could love a product and dislike a product tutorial associated with the same product so much. It’s like you didn’t bother to learn how to use it before using it. Which I don’t blame you if you don’t know but don’t call it “part tutorial” and give people terrible advice. Love your other videos involving master class dry brushing but this wasn’t it. You spent half this video dry brushing… This application of this product was just pretty bad I would almost even say lazy… why would anyone care about so many applications of this product over gold as a tutorial. This just wasn’t grim dark application that these are sold promoting or done to what you said.
Also tag creators that know the product and actually worked with it. You tagged already known generic usual suspect influencer channels. people have been demoing it from launch back in January who have amazing content like @theferalpainter or someone who can give a true demo of it and do it justice.
Sorry for being harsh and I’m glad you spotlighted this cool product but this tutorial was terrible in terms of what this stuff can do. At least the dirty down review totally did or newish showcased how it works. This made it just look terrible and I would be pretty bummed if this was my product.

Thanks for such a thorough message buddy, no need to apologise, constructive criticism is always welcome!
#1 - You are completely right about Feral and GDC, that's a mistake on our part.
#2 - I'll explain myself here, please let me know what you think.
Some videos we go into with a plan, some we don't, my plan here was to encourage as many people as possible to set asides worries about this type of product... I think we achieved that, and the nature and volume of the comments seems to back it up.
Lowering intimidation and dispelling unnecessary worries about them not being approachable, being messy or dangerous etc is the first step to more people considering trying them, and that's what I wanted to use our reach (and the reach of the other people shared) for here.
The result was probably a wider and shallower video than experienced users like you would want, if we do a follow up it will be more in that direction.
This would all have been better with the guys linked, I'm in contact with both of them personally already, so it's just a brain-fart that will be fixed in the future :)
