Excellent video this week! For your next video: Guide for batch painting all your spearhead armies. Would be a nice opportunity to cover: 1) how to plan batch painting for a spearhead force (tools; model prep; sub assemblies; color scheme/basing; schedule). 2) Principles for painting in batches (i.e., goal-setting; small v. large batches; maintaining momentum across multiple batch-painting sessions; what areas of the model to start with; use of color; how to identify high versus low impact paint areas; speed vs. slow approaches to batch painting) 3) Intermediate techniques to elevate a batch paint (e.g., streaking grime, pigment powders, effects paints, etc. Which work well for batch painting? Which don't?) 4) What to do at the end of a batch paint. Most army painting vids tend to emphasize the early stages with the goal of getting something on the table. What things should be considered at the end of batch painting? 5) Any spear-head specific considerations for batch painting? (basing to match spearhead board; expanding spearhead to full army) Keep up the amazing work!
I've recently bounced back into painting after getting discouraged years ago, in large parts thanks to your video's showing contrast paints and drybrushing. I am very perfectionist, and struggle to find joy in my own work, which meant I used to bounce away from miniature painting, never quite happy with the result. I found out about slapchop existing, and I ended up doing a lot of research, including several videos posted on this channel. And you guys really brought back like...a joy of painting I've not felt since I was a kid. I finished up a few miniatures a few days ago that I spent way too much time on, but I am genuinely so proud of how they turned out. It's been such a boost to my self-esteem. So... thanks for spreading the joy of the craft. Since I am also painting miniatures that feature canopies and cockpit glass; I'd love to see your take on that. The jewelling technique I'm using relies a lot on wet-blending, and it's one I'm getting acceptable results out of, but it's not quite there yet. Would love to see if there's a way you would tackle it!
Starting a paint-project of over 80 skaven clanrats, this video made the idea less daunting. Thank you for the encouragement with this! I'll be using your suggestion for most of the mass-paint.
Would love to see an updated version of your Painting Stormcast Vindictors but with different schemes. Perhaps white gold, battered grim dark style and ultra clean high fantasy armor styles.
We've had enough requests for some slower, non-contrast videos that we've taken them onboard, I'm recording a very fancy clanrat currently, who should be an antidote to this guy :). I do love the characters in the box, if I can squeeze some time after being away next week I'll pick my fav!
I absolutely adore that you leave your mistakes in! Ive been really struggling for inspiration recently, but this has got me so excited to spend money I dont really have! My tip - dont be scared to mix contrast paints (or any paing for that matter) on the model itself. The smoother graident and visual punch is more familier to the human eye especially in skin tones where they are very rarely uniform
Excellent video as usual! Slow down on characters is always nice and helpful as a painting guide... For the Stormcast Eternals I'd like to see OSL and Lighting Effects with all those fires or how to get those vibrant blues for their robes and capes... Please paint up the new rat ogre models from Skaventide with various skin tones utilizing Citadel Contrast paints. Please put special emphasis on the parts of the models that have skin that is damaged, stressed and stitched like where Warpstone pieces have been forced into the beasties, their maws and claws too. Thanks! :D

content suggestion: the Scaventide box has two 'competing' mounted heroes. A head to head around the differences in how you would approach & paint each to make them most suit their faction would be awesome. eg The rat you just painted had a real fast but quality feel to it which could be extended to hordes of rats. How would the hero be painted using the same priciples to fit with the larger army. cheers!
This is a fantastic suggestion, I've actually just started recording a somewhat similar theme... but it's on the ame mini (more stages: more fancy + slower). Your format is a lot more fun though!

100% man. We have a fair amount recorded and in edit, but this is something that editor Ian and I have discussed specifically already, whether individual videos or combined
@@ArtisOpus that’s great to hear. You could almost do it as a modular system/playlist as you move from basics as you’ve done here, to basing and then the extra bells & whistles, maybe around the Skaventide box and get a community ride along going each set period. There’s enough variation in the box (including scenery!) to really make that delicious content I reckon. Look forward to seeing it all come through 👍🏻
I would love to see how you paint the Clawlord on Gnaw-beast. With a focus on the beast itself. The extra detail and texture you can add with the artist Opus brush system and the face/details of the mounted character. It’s the only piece I’m nervous about painting 😬
I've love to see an Artis Opus approach to a mini diorama. Skaventide is super flavourful and it has so many great poses that play against each other. A small dio with 3 on each side and maybe some combination of the last few techniques posted would be great. Like 3 retributors with the villainy ink stuff on one side and some clan rats on the other side. Loving the latest few things you've shown off, getting me excited to work on my faster projects and not get bogged down too much in my display work!
Great little video! With skaventide - and therefor warpstone - coming up some crystals and osl effects on and from the warpstones would not go amiss :)
This is really cool! Next, I would love to see some really high contrast Stormcasts from Skaventide with the flames done in something like a cool mystic green with a potent OSL effect
I would really like to see your take on stormcast that isn't just the standard gold/silver, especially with how good things like the reclusians and the new lord look! Also, quick effective basing ideas to compliment these schemes would be perfect!
I think a cool vid might be on "project management" on a mass paint i.e. prep, the balancing act between how many models to do a single paint stage on and getting smaller amounts completed, how to actually plan what's happening to what and when, prototype minis, etc.
This is a fantastic suggestion, and something I feel particularly strongly is very useful, and not widely discussed. Any suggestions oh how you think we could frame it to make it enticing? I think stuff on these subjects doesn't get clicked because it's neither sexy or 'HOW TO PAINT NICE BLUE' type content. Great input, thanks buddy!
Hmmm, I guess your clickbaity way in could be about "breaking down your obstacles", "make that batch build work for you" or what have you. Make it about a formula that makes it harder to get in your own way.
Not necessarily linked to the skaventide box, but something I’d like to see more of at some point is some more in depth look in regards to creating a colour pallet for a mini (not necessarily just an army) and some of the decisions that go into a well thought out piece. So things like -composition across the miniature -biasing colours to be warmer or cooler depending on other colours on the miniature (I think this comes up a lot for blacks, whites and metallics) -how that might affect your basing colours to contrast or compliment. That sort of thing. So probably more applicable to characters or display pieces?
3 years ago your videos really helped me get the Dominion Stormcast done! I'm hopeful for something similar this time! Maybe a video on how to paint the Stormcast leaders with some glowing effects for their weapons and flames?
My LGS is finishing up a quick Spearhead league, then moving on to a Path of Glory league. Spearhead is great, I know I'm going to be buying more armies for it.
I would love to see a speedy spearhead painting video! Especially interested in Seraphon or Skaven! Thanks for putting out such good and beginner friendly content!
I think the way you do metal would look amazing on the big cannon and the warpstone bits glow would look good the way you painted the piece of wall recently. Anyway love your work, your store and products you produce. Keep on keeping on🫶
I’ve just got back into the hobby, pulled the trigger and bought some CSM, doing black legion and would love to see you paint some 👌🏻 love the vids keep them up
Awesome video, much appreciated and I look forward to giving something similar a go when this drops. At the beginning you said the clanrat was doombull brown but then primed grey seer. Was the doombull all over prior to the grey seer? I'm intrigued as to how you did that and the rationale please if you have time :) Thanks again, Nick
Awesome video! As someone who will be new to Skaven with this release, I would love to see how you go about some of the different clans color schemes in your style please!
Since I began painting Skaven my goal has always been to make my collection Redwall themed. I think it would be really cool, without changing the models, to paint different woodland critters like raccoons, badgers, opossums, squirrels, beavers, and so on. Essentially my goal is to build my Skaven army around themes like nobility and heroism, and I hope that can come through with the right color choices. It’s very common for people to lean into the Skaven lore, making them filthy and horrific. I want to know if the opposite can be achieved with paint. Even if you don’t think it would fit the model, I’m curious, what would be your approach to such a consideration? I like subverting expectations, and in fact, I hope to flip the script entirely and make my stormcast army the villainous conquerors, and the Skaven the noble defenders of the woods. All of this will influence how I paint these models, but, since most guides and examples I’ve seen are painting Skaven and stormcast in the typical style, I’m going to need to experiment quite a bit to hopefully find what works. Thank you!
Thats such a cool idea! Firstly I'd go back to the original book covers, and carefully pick one as a source of inspiration for a colour palette that's *as far from normal skaven as possible*. Be careful not to 'dirty' your colours (e.g. brown green), like you said, push for the good guy stuff. You could change the shields, and get some heraldry on there, too :)
Ok, well after my "why is everybody in such a rush" comment, I feel thoroughly humbled; quick results but still felt fun and chill (even taking the weather into account). I particularly enjoyed the hair/fur, teeth and claws, could you show us how you approach those on a character model please? 🙏 PS the contamination/'get on with your day' bit was actually something of a huge unlock for me - thanks! 😊🌞
Welcome to the crowd of nerds who can finish projects now, it's a special thing to unburden and crack on! :) Like a Skaven details vid? We always have to think about how to frame stuff enticingly, to attract the biggest crowd, it's tricky! Regarding your second comment... our entire channel started telling people to not forget the normal rules of painting, just because they're holding a drybrush, so don't kick yourself too hard ;)
I would like to the different ways to paint the various clans as well as some different colors for stormcast. Maybe how to do a hue on the metallic to get the purses and blues of various vaults
I really love using contrast paints as it really speeds up my painting. But I always ends up enhancing it with some regular paint. Mostly highligts. One thing I struggle with is finding good colours to enhance the highlights of the different contrast paints. A guide on that would be awesome for your next vid. Like these 2 red colours will be good colours to highlight flesh terers red.
I want you to kit bash the rat stick (measuring tool) onto the Grey Seer so he becomes the the almighty ruler of the battlefield. Make that stick as ornate as a cathedral centerpiece with golden rats and maybe wrap it with some little gold chains or something.
This was way better than I‘d like to admit and I‘m now repriming my traitor guard to use the techniques in this video, oh well. Have you done a Red Corsair yet? I have a bunch I want to do and could use some ideas…
I'd love to see some tips for the not so straight metallic Stormcast, the Teal Celestial Vindicators, the Maroon Celestial Warbringers and the scortched black Anvils of Heldenhammer.
Ratastic video! Would really like to see a Skaven warmachine done in this style. I have had a lot of trouble getting my old wood to look right and would love to see your take on those fantastic models. More more Doomwheel or Warp Lightning Cannon??
Cheers buddy! We have built one but ran out of time before going away for a week, time permitting we might cover how the assembly and converting went :)
Amazing - best efficient Clan Rat I’ve seen. 5-star tips. What Contrast purples would you use if I wanted that instead of red? Would love to see the slow down Contrast approach on key models. And yah SCE too 😀
I would love to see some breakdowns for different skin/fur tones, different clothing armor for the main skaven factions, so really cool weathering rust grime type stuff, and different ways to paint warpstone would be cool too!
Skaven have always been some of the most characterful of GW models. Maybe a video on quick conversations or painting techniques to give uniqueness/personalisation to horde minis could be fun?
I would love to see a new take on the STORMCAST. Maybe a more Rough and Ready army scheme. Weathered armor perhaps, since they are in the field fighting SKAVEN. I am sure they are getting down and dirty on the battlefield.
With Skaven it would be easy to fall into a pattern of brown fur that would make each individual look underwhelming when viewed as a unit. What are some easy formulas for different fur so we can help our Skaven stand out?
I'd like to see you paint the stormcast as a few different stormhosts like you did for dominion but hit some of the stormhost you didn't get last time.
I think a nice slow video on the claw-lord on gnaw beast would be awesome! as making that gnaw beast look real nasty and decaying would be really cool to pair with the vibrant armor of the claw-lord, always nice to have an awesome looking leader model
I want to see you walk around town interviewing randos about dry brushing without ever breaking eye contact. Oh, and you have to explain it without mentioning miniatures or the wargaming hobby. Good luck!
Love the video! I’m looking to paint the warlock engineer as a mad scientist with a white coat, black gloves and goldfish copper metallics, do you think you could show how to achieve that sort of scheme?
Can you do one on coloured stormcast metallics, maybe one of each stormhost I paint cellestial vindicators and need to know how to get contrast in the metallic blue armour - Thanks Byron
You've been selling out of frostgrave stuff over at element for the last month and a bit now (I just want the solider II set, a cloth mat and some baddies/gribblies ;_;), could we get a video on how to do some smaller 28mm scale minis. I know its not warhammer but with how popular they are atm a guide on them would be nice.
Small, older minis, too. Maybe that could be a general video... I've already passed this info on btw, with frostgrave being mini agnostic it'd just alter the gaming aids and books, but we'll look at stocking them a little deeper to make sure we don't run out, thanks :)
Great video as always. I’d like to see an action scene almost where a Skaven has attacked and killed a stormcast. Some how incorporate a Stormcast body into the base with a Skaven standing over him.
Question as i am new to warhammer and plan on buying the skaventide box: Should all the clan rats have the same colour scheme like in this video with red armor etc or should some change for visuals like give some a green armor, some a blue armor? Also the core rule book in the box is the new core rule book? So this book from the box alone is worth 50 euros or so?
There's a new core book AND a new book for spearhead (which looks cool!). It's a difficult decision, I would maybe vary just the robes or something, and of course you could do details (like his little bag) slightly different, too. If you do vary details I feel it's important to keep them the same value/tone (e.g. very bright/dull), while changing the colour :)
I'd love to see Artis Opus do a week (or short series) of videos using texture pastes/or effects paints and conversions, as something outside "the traditional painting wheelhouse."
Spearhead seems exciting if not a little dangerous. All of the AOS minis are beautiful and I can see falling into a trap where my brains like "It's not a full army, just the tip" and 6 months in the future I have a half dozen spearhead boxes.
@@ArtisOpus That's how we ended up with 23 Underworlds warbands! "It's just a handful of naked dwarfs, nto a full army, why shouldn't we paint them..."
I know a lot of people like the pink kind of naked hairless looking rat because it looks a bit more frightening, but I prefer the dull mouse light brown look better for the battle boards. It gives a bit more contrast and true 'Rat' feel when a horde of these is coming at your army.
I like to mix Griff hound orange with guilliman flesh to give a more oldhammer Skaven skin tone. Spearhead content: yes please! A Spearhead diary where you show how long it takes a normal person to build and paint a Spearhead would be useful.
I would like to see speedpaint metallics+enamel wash stormascasts, that would be really useful for painting whole armies Extra: adding some quick effects with some lightings made of small wire painted with high saturated glowing paints
Could you please show us an aged 'Hammers of Sigmar' gold so that it would fit in with my stormcast but retain the gritty ruination chamber look! Thanks in advance! :)
Paint list: Flesh tearers red, Baal red, snakebite, guilliman flesh, black templar, VGA silver, nuln oil, sepia, skeleton horde, athonian camoshade

@@ArtisOpus The phrase "trust the process" would probably ping the various algorithmic doodads.
Not necessarily linked to the skaventide box, but something I’d like to see more of at some point is some more in depth look in regards to creating a colour pallet for a mini (not necessarily just an army) and some of the decisions that go into a well thought out piece. So things like
-composition across the miniature
-biasing colours to be warmer or cooler depending on other colours on the miniature (I think this comes up a lot for blacks, whites and metallics)
-how that might affect your basing colours to contrast or compliment.
PS the contamination/'get on with your day' bit was actually something of a huge unlock for me - thanks! 😊🌞
Also the black under silver/metallic trick ❤ - I know that from aircraft scale modelling, how had I not thought to apply it to minis?! D'oh 🤦♀️
Welcome to the crowd of nerds who can finish projects now, it's a special thing to unburden and crack on! :)
Like a Skaven details vid? We always have to think about how to frame stuff enticingly, to attract the biggest crowd, it's tricky!
Regarding your second comment... our entire channel started telling people to not forget the normal rules of painting, just because they're holding a drybrush, so don't kick yourself too hard ;)
@@ArtisOpus thanks 😊 Skaven details vid would be awesome (if that's likely to entice enough eyes, of course) 🙏
Spearhead boxes would be really cool. I would love to see you paint up some daughters of Khaine.
Amazing! I think you'll surprise yourself :). We haven't, I wonder if they'd be popular
More more
Doomwheel or Warp Lightning Cannon??
Great tutorial, lots of helpful tips in here thanks! Paint Paint Skaven Yes Yes.
Would also love to see some Spearhead.
And yah SCE too 😀
I request some epic warpstone recipes with maybe a bit of OSL 😜
I feel like this might be a popular request! :)
@@ArtisOpus I was going to make the same comment
I would love to see some breakdowns for different skin/fur tones, different clothing armor for the main skaven factions, so really cool weathering rust grime type stuff, and different ways to paint warpstone would be cool too!
Skaven have always been some of the most characterful of GW models. Maybe a video on quick conversations or painting techniques to give uniqueness/personalisation to horde minis could be fun?
I'd absolutely love to see some blends/schemes on the flaming wings on the new stormcast flying chaps!
I’d like to see more metallics work for sure! Some cool metal pieces in the new set. 😊
True metallic, slightly grimdarky SCE? Keep your eyes peeled next week ;)
Would love to see some bronze or copper TMM armor on stormcast. All you can find is the NMM variant or your regular gold or silver armor.
We've got something *nearly* this coming next week, but copper would look fantastic in particular... it's hard to achieve, I'll have a think!
@@ArtisOpus so nice to hear that, i've been struggling with a copper armor for my deathwing knights with so many test models
I would love to see a new take on the STORMCAST.
Maybe a more Rough and Ready army scheme. Weathered armor perhaps, since they are in the field fighting SKAVEN.
I am sure they are getting down and dirty on the battlefield.
Keep your eyes peeled buddy, you might not have a long wait 😉
@@ArtisOpus Wwwooooooot!!!
New skaventide tutorial would be neat
Keep your eyes peeled my man, we've got a clanrat coming, it's the fancy one we've shared a couple of times on socials/YT community posts :)
@@ArtisOpusoh, ill watch these tutorials surely!
Please can you make a video if painting the Ratling Warpblaster please?
We've got some skaven metallics up on the channel which might be useful!
that baal red + guilliman flesh mix is the best, im going to try that for my repentia. especially the baal red on the bloodpoints. its really good
Enjoy! 🙏
Would love at some point to see a how-to on colored metallics for Stormcast, for Celestial Vindicators or Astral Templars or the like.
I'm not good in painting models with heavy metal armor. would like to see how to paint the stormcast eternals in an easy beginner friendly way
With Skaven it would be easy to fall into a pattern of brown fur that would make each individual look underwhelming when viewed as a unit. What are some easy formulas for different fur so we can help our Skaven stand out?
Would love to see you do a tutorial on painting character models up to a display level using all the techniques you've shown us on the channel
From Skaventide buddy, or just generally?
Skaventide being the more relevant thing would make more sense but I'll leave that up to you
I'd like to see you paint the stormcast as a few different stormhosts like you did for dominion but hit some of the stormhost you didn't get last time.
Would like to see grey seer with maybe some cool warpstone glow effects
Check our premier in 45 minutes 😎
Definitely would love to see some Spearhead stuff!
Good luck!
HAAAA! This one got a belly laugh out
As a former resident of Manchester, I have concerns...
@@jamfjord do explain
Would be cool to see a craftworldstudios inspired speedpaint approach for the stormcast
I love their colours! I'd have to do some learning but would love to try and hack their colours at speed...
I would love to see you go through a stormcast that is using a non metallic plate color but with a metallic trim.
Love the video! I’m looking to paint the warlock engineer as a mad scientist with a white coat, black gloves and goldfish copper metallics, do you think you could show how to achieve that sort of scheme?
I would love to see your take on metalic speed painting the stormcast in the box.
Next week ;)
@@ArtisOpus can't wait
I would like to see a mixture of using contrast and acrylic to give the best effects we can!
Especially on the characters!
Can you do one on coloured stormcast metallics, maybe one of each stormhost
I paint cellestial vindicators and need to know how to get contrast in the metallic blue armour - Thanks Byron
Would love to see a batch painting approach to stormcast personally with metallics added in there
You might want to keep your eyes peeled mid next week ;)
This takes an idea I already started... and turns it up to 11 (beyond customisation). Let me have a think :)
I would like to see a paintvideo for the winged stormcast models with some flame effect on the wings. Like they come down with a gods wrath.
Would be nice to see some warp stone painting and diferent types of rust on armours.
Question as i am new to warhammer and plan on buying the skaventide box:
Should all the clan rats have the same colour scheme like in this video with red armor etc or should some change for visuals like give some a green armor, some a blue armor?
😅😅😅. But if they're all painted how glorious could it be?!
@@ArtisOpus That's how we ended up with 23 Underworlds warbands! "It's just a handful of naked dwarfs, nto a full army, why shouldn't we paint them..."
It would be good to see how to do characters that look better but still fit in with the batch painted models, especially one with glowing warpstone
Paint tutorials for the mounted heroes in Skaventide would be awesome!
Great video once again 👍👍
Cheers, buddy!
I'd love to see an explanation on how to do different colours of fur
I know a lot of people like the pink kind of naked hairless looking rat because it looks a bit more frightening, but I prefer the dull mouse light brown look better for the battle boards. It gives a bit more contrast and true 'Rat' feel when a horde of these is coming at your army.
Do you have a speed/contrast paint Fyreslayers tutorial?
I like to mix Griff hound orange with guilliman flesh to give a more oldhammer Skaven skin tone.
Spearhead content: yes please! A Spearhead diary where you show how long it takes a normal person to build and paint a Spearhead would be useful.
I would love to see a slow in-depth video on the Grey Seer from the new box.
Lovely mini, isn't it? Did you see Rich Gray's? 🤤
Cant wait for the new skaven
They're very good buddy, absolutely tip top!
Haha ofc skaven are the best best
Fast but good looking true metallic metals. Above the standard metal plus nuln oil. Would be great
This has been recorded and is in the (currently significant) editing queue!
@@ArtisOpus yay, I’ve suggested it quite a few times, can’t wait to see it
I'd love to see how to really bump up the warpstone glow effect until we have neon cyberpunk clanrats - but that;s just me.
Waow, excellent video, a lot of great advices. Thanks !
I would like to see speedpaint metallics+enamel wash stormascasts, that would be really useful for painting whole armies
Extra: adding some quick effects with some lightings made of small wire painted with high saturated glowing paints
My dude, keep your eyes peeled next week, we *might* have already covered exactly this (the first part, at least :))
@@ArtisOpus awesome 👌
Could you please show us an aged 'Hammers of Sigmar' gold so that it would fit in with my stormcast but retain the gritty ruination chamber look! Thanks in advance! :)
Next week! :)
