Now its a stabbin wagon
I have a similar set up in my rig and have free camped in it hundreds of times in some of the most beautiful places around Australia. The money saved in accom and the places stayed is priceless considering the small amount of time, money and effort required. And 100% better than a tent, I've slept comfortable in intense wind and rain storms comfy as a bug in a rug.
Damn, you should definitely do more trucks/4x4 vehicles. I never really wanted an fj until I watched every episode of this build. By far the coolest fj I've ever seen and you did it for so cheap!
It's cheap when you are sponsored... lol.
Need a receiver hitch porch, so you can take a leak without getting mud and dirt all in your bed. Also doubles as a cooking/sitting/drinking area.
ohh good idea
You should put a power outlet in the back that is hooked to you aux battery only, for when you are camping.
crzy11000 especially if he's putting an air mattress, having a compressor plugged in the rear would be so usefull
Also need it for the cold box for the SEMA trip. Put a double socket in, maybe both sides.
FJ already has one back there :)
@@LucasOffutt Some do... unfortunately, the dude who bought mine originally opted out of that option, I also didn't get the triple gauges on the dash. Did get the locking Diff and A-trac though.
For anyone looking to do this build; the plywood is 3/4" not 3/8" as listed in the plans. I made it too far before realizing it... nice job on the video B is for Build!
Also if you make a net for the rear window you can leave the window down and still have fresh air! Weather permitting lol
Well the good thing about the window is it swings up, acting like a small awning. Might have to add a bit of canvas to the upper hinge to prevent water from leaking in, and around the sides, sort of like a shadow box. BUT the screen idea is great... Could attach a ring of magnets like the ones used for refrigerators to prevent bugs from getting in.
MasterMech77 < - - Great idea with the magnets ( LOVE magnets) for the screen. I've seen the screens on pinterest, but don't know how they made the outer edges. Seems to be the same stuff on the outer edge of the dash reflectors that fold up with a twist. But I don't know how one would get the metal into the shape of the FJ's rear window. I'd be wary of sleeping with he window popped up all the way, but more "open" to the idea of cracking it an inch or two (probably wouldn't be seen that way) and would still want to use the screen.
You should add a snorkel , it looks cool on FJs
adding for looks :|
I'd add one for functionality. Way too expensive just for looks
Love the episode . Now you should do some outdoors camping vlogging episode !!!!
B is for Blue door jams.... still
and around the rear window :-)
It bugs me so bad!
We need a sticker out of that lol
lol
One of my top favorite builds thus far for sure, clean and functional.
For many years in the Army I slept in my FJ. The front seat is AWESOME so long as you're on a incline.
idk if this is already a feature. but, I think you should apply some kind of lock to that latch that opens the rear from the inside. because if you have luggage, and something falls on that latch while driving, everything you got back there is falling out. and that's also dangerous for anyone driving behind you. (if locking the door don't stop it from opening, which, to me, it doesn't seem that locking the door will do anything to stop that latch.)
Great video. It looks like it came out great. I was all set to go with a roof top tent, but have since changed my mind since seeing this. Thanks for sharing!
I love your build here. I did the same one about a year ago myself. The guy who you mentioned that designed this is great. Awesome easy design. I used my FJ for a work truck for a year until I could afford a used pickup. I left the platform in. My shovels etc. would slide in handle first under the left platform. I would put other tools and totes on top. Works great. But now I use it for traveling and camping. I am to old to be climbing over the seat every time I have to pee. Love your idea for the "door" knob. I am going to use that idea too. Would love to share something clever myself. Will post it if I do come up with something. Thanks again for your idea.
Really cool to see the channel explore different avenues like this. Always something fresh!
Also I love it when Chelsea helps out with the builds too! Awesome to see both of you collaborate. I also trust her a little bit more with making the small details look good haha
Glad you're going with a deep cycle! Bed turned out really clean, impressive what some plywood can do
This is actually one of the best builds yet. Really enjoyed this one
Great job, man! I love following your build.
Anyone else notice he put the tire back on before he closed the window? Lmao
They Window/door closes with the tire on! Stupid lmao.
Man I love getting notifications for these videos. Great job with the FJ! Can't wait to see what you do with the Aston!
Really nice work, great planning by the guy who designed it and nicely built by you guys!
This is one of my favorite projects so far
Just made this setup in my FJ, thanks for the great video! 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
Dude... perfect... came up more usefull than what you intended. I liked that little lever you installed
My new favorite channel and the fact its local is just that much better.
Great job with your FJ build. I didn’t care so much about FJ’s before this series. Now they look like a pretty good platform. I can imagine the aftermarket for these is pretty big too.
This is one awesome car now! The Paint really stepped it up!
Loving the FJ series 👌
So badass!!!!! I love this build.
Now that, is a sweet build! I wish i had one just like it!
That’s so awesome man good job!!!
Nice having someone so suportive like chelsea by your side.
Perfect timing for the video 👌
Awesome love your creativeness
Few things here, need padding, it will be a long night for you guys without sleep. Also, you should add some entertainment in there with a WiFi hotspot, maybe add a tv from the top. Add some speakers for surround if you care. A few touches that are optional but would make for an awesome time, you can even add wireless speakers to bring outside the car and watch tv from the outside to make for the best outback entertainment and camping ever. Makes me want to have one now.
Your Cruiser paint job is very nice and even and the sleeping arrangement made is very good
Im doing this on my FJ soon! going to get a roof rack first then this awesome idea!
Great Job
I made a sleeping platform very similar to this in my Hilux Surf and it served me very well!
That's awesome bro I might steal that idea with the lock issue because yes that would make it much easier to get in and out of while camping.
This was awesome thank you.
Damn loving the build.
Great job Sir
Great video
great video, I plan on doing this to my FJ
As someone who owns a 2016 Fj Love seeing these Fj vidoes
Calling,.. bogus,... last year these were made was 2014. I HAVE a 2014.
THANK YOU CHRIS!
MatthewFRS your welcome
MatthewFRS a o fuelrkifiroprifioeeueeirir ie
Coolest FJ i have ever seen.
Noice ! Also stoked you got your spare tire re mounted on there.. looks great bro
Really cool
oooh,i love the fj build videos. correction, i love all the videos 👍👍
I added a LED lamp under hood. Easy and when you need it it’s really a big help.
You are amazing 👏🏻
Looks amazing!! Looks like the perfect camping wagon! My Crosstrek is proving too small for camping roadtrips. Should have bought an FJ instead.
You don't really need the two forward pieces. I just made the back platform to be flush with the rise of the folded down seats.
NO WAY!!! I"m going to sema as well!!! :D Hope to get to see you :)
Thanks Chris
It's like a modern interpretation of a shaggin 70's van ;)
Chris, add a rear window security or fly screen to the rear door of the FJ, you can then sleep with the window and and not get bugs in (or un-wanted hands :)!
Love the music👌👌👌
another nice victory built
Not once have i ever considered an FJ Cruiser as a car i would want to own....now you have made me consider it.
The best part of this is that you found out your rear window opens. Lol. Looks like a fun 1 or 2 day vehicle vacation.
Safe spot to put the latch on the back door is in that access hole in the access hole directly front of the mechanism… put your finger in the hole and open the door :)
The FJ Cruiser store sells a screen that fits in the back window - a must.
"Pièce de résistance" is French, not Italian lol :p
Zombie-Yellow
I laughed when he said that too
Piss de resistor?
;p
I hope he was just ironic. ;-)
B is for Build hey I'm wondering do they stay put when u go offroad? Any ways of fastening the platform down temporarily for hitting trails?
love this
you doin a magnificent job Cheif
A self inflating camping mattress would give you some support for sleeping, not take up much space when put away, keep the headroom above to a maximum, and not need a compressor to inflait. Only drawback is they have minimum support. I could camp on one but I'm not that picky. I can sleep anywhere. Thanks for sharing your build.
People hate on Harbor Freight, but they really are a great store.
Awww yiss. Get done puttin in work on my car to this!
I'm digging Chelsea's boots
Very cool
Thank you
You need a Kreg pocket hole jig. You can get them at Home Depot, are pretty cheap and are perfect for when you are making things like this.
Straight from the Big Rock Candy Mountain!
Swear with the rear tyre you can’t open the window
John Walters hahahaa I noticed he mounted the tire before closing the window
Just add a wheel spacer for the spare tire
Mine still open with 35" tire on it
There's a lil' curve following it, you'll be able to :3
Yeah, I just rewatched it and that snap transition got me sitting up
I will be at AAPEX/SEMA show! hope to see you there!
I did not wait 3 days for a 13min video. C'mon BisForBuid u slacking man
Some company also makes a screen you can install on your rear window so bugs and shit can't get in. Worth every penny.
This is really cool! I’ve always wanted to do this to a civic shuttle but idk if the trunk is big enough lmao
You may want to cut out a bug net or screen to fit the rear window so when you are camping you can get some airflow with out getting any bug flow.
Inspiration for a new DD
I would suggest you build some kind of awning for the rear door . When it rains or snows water will come dripping in when you open the door!
Love ya Chris.
I don't know if it's the angle of the FJ at the end of the video, but it looks like it could use some spacers in the front.
Bisforbed
This is funny to me because I have slept in my fj many times, only using like 15 pillows and 2 sleeping bags to make a comfier bed that is more level. I am only 5'4 and was usually drunk so it did the job
AOMechMarine AOMechMarine < - - air mattress would still be tilted upward in the front and have a BIG step down where the offset is. BUT,.. you could put double (or triple) the foam in the rear/lower section and only a single layer toward the front and THAT would help a lot. That plus parking on a slight incline with the nose a little lower might help a bit too, since the back seats slant upward, going toward the front. Really can't believe they didn't make the rear of this thing one single level and flat. That just didn't want to bother,.. probably cause the area isn't that big and they didn't think people would be sleeping inside. ( or more likely they just went the easy route.). Same for the no door handle/unlock from the inside. Frustrating.
I have this kinda setup in my surf that I just winged and screwed some bits of ply together. Works mint then ya just pu an air bed on top and your golden
Good job haha Added the tire back on now you cant open the rear window! LMAO!
“Rear tire applied”
*cant shut window*
I highly suggest 2 of Coleman Kids EasyStay Single High Airbeds.. fit perfectly
I bought an extra Coleman folding table and put it down in the rear when camping. Eliminated the bump and cost $50. Cheers!
Bushbar the lights perhaps? great Vlog!
Great job! thank you for sharing, I too saw these specs in the FJ Forums and decided this is the best route to go.
Did you used any other specs, than the hand drawn ones on the forum?
I'd probably buy a small trailer or something because 2 people would be kinda cramped back there. Pretty cool though, as b is for build does, you make do with what you've got
Wait...you did a dual battery setup, went through all that, and the build is done with a plywood platform? What did you need dual batteries for? I thought you were going to put in a fridge, or TV, or communication equipment, or some big nav system...something. Im still not sure why you need RC lights? Haha. The FJ is cool though, I love the bedliner look. I think you would be better off leaving the inside for gear/tools, and doing a roof rack tent. Those will be 100x more comfortable to sleep in with more room, and you wont have to tetris your gear and luggage when you want to sleep. Its an adventure vehicle...youre going to want tools and recovery gear!!
B is for Build!
Nice
