  • Toyota FJ Cruiser Bed Platform Modification.
"Complete Plans" to DIY at the end of the video.
This is an easy project for a removable bed platform that is low profile to provide plenty of headroom.
It's slightly over 6'2" in length.

Excellent work and attention to detail. It's funny how I was thinking I would put felt right there, just before you said "you could put some felt there". Cool

Thanks for this. My son just bought an 2012 FJ cruiser on my behalf and I was looking for ideas for sleeping in the back. Regards, Sue, Nsw Australia

Cool - I hope any part of ideas helps bring awareness to what is possible and what to watch out for.
I have lots more mods on video that I should edit and post.

Nicely designed, thank you. Gives me a base to start with, but for the whole back end to create enough room for two people to sleep. Thx!

You are very welcome. For two people, you can do it by removing the bottom of the smaller rear seat. Then paln on installing it when you can move the driver seat forward. When adventure seeking, I leave the front section in place. Makes it fast and easy to find a spot for a nap. The back section I leave in place 24/7. Four people can sit while the back section remains in place. Front section gets stored in the garage until I go on a trip. I learned that a section design makes this flexible. A one piece setup is too limiting. The back section holds a lot of stuff under it. Most all tow straps and gear are not more then 3.5 inches tall. Which is the height of a 2x4.

Nice work. Like that you only use half the rear seat too. Just what I was looking for. What do you use as a mattress.?

2-questions: Couldn't I use 1x4s instead of the 2x4s (weight considerations) and, why is the 22 3/4 " back 2x4 placed flat and not vertical / "narrow side up"?

Just wondering, Maybe us the Tie Downs in floor there to keep it locked in place. In case you get in to an Accident. That be my major concern.

question: the angle cut on your 2"x4", appears to be missing the dimension on width for the cut. Are you cutting on the centerline of the 2"x4"? great design by the way... thanks for sharing!

Upaded: Sorry for not seeing this early. I am in the middle of moving. No angle cuts --- Update: My mistake, yes there is one angle on the hump side of the 2 longer pieces in this video. You can use a piece of cardboard to make a stencil for that hump.
Rear section with the piano hinge has only 3 pieces of 2x4. The section closest to the front has just a small 2x4 piece that sits on top of the rear of the consul. I may get my son to add a video and I should explain those details. Freezing the last part of the video has the plans.
