That is actually an excellent question and we asking ourselves the same. I was concerned that as almost all braid diameters were measured over what they were rated, maybe they were measured under tension and the line thinned down. So we put it under high tension and measured the diameter. From our tests there was no measurable difference in the diameter.
Was thinking exactly that, line with tension is way thicker, have to be a "limit" of strength required to put the line on a point that if u put more strength only makes like 1-2% thicker but the 98% required needs way more less tension on the line.
bloody confused here. want the thinnest line for deep ocean fishing. was thinking of buying 0.18 but am i then getting 0.28? and then i might buy 0.12 and get 0.18...
I haven't tested the JBraid x8 yet so i cant comment on that, but looking at the JBraid x4 vs Kairiki then the Shimano line beats it in almost every category for 15lb, but it also has a slightly higher diameter.
Hi Mike - this is a new one for me, I hadn't come across this line before. If you by chance have a sample that we could test could you please get in touch with us? Thanks!
By oversized do you mean thicker than advertised? If so then according to my measurements, it is but not by a lot, and it also breaks quite a bit higher than claimed.
Hi, i got daiwa x8 braid (not grand) and is PE 2.0 (0.20mm) 29 lb. How is possible that your line shows 30 lbs only when is PE 3.0 (0.28mm). I check the real grand braid x8 and says: 59 lb PE 4.0 (0.28mm). I dont know what kind of line you real using .
Daiwa ratings seem to be very inconsistent between countries. In Australia the 30lb is listed as PE3 .28mm, yet you look at their websites in other regions and the same x8 in 30lb (or 29lb) is listed as PE2 .20mm.
Daiwa PE line saltiga, is just at another level. Cast further, feels smoother when reeling and thinner. Gave away my daiwa braid x8
Very good testing! Question. If the line is tensioned lightly (like when spooling a new line), does it change the diameter?

@@thelinelaboratory good to know!

What do you use as the abrasion maker? Include a knot test in all your tests. Use the most popular knot for the type of line to a swivel.
A hardened steel file, you can find details on all the testing procedures here: linelaboratory.com/testing-procedures/
Subbed. This must cost a fortune. Thanks.
My bank account can attest to that 🤣

Nailed it. That seems to be a big issue, you have no idea what your actually getting. As a consumer it makes life very hard.
@@thelinelaboratory indeed! Seems the best way might be to buy several types for you to test!
Shimano kairiki and daiwa j braid, which one is better for Surf casting

@@thelinelaboratory thank you
Can you test P-Line X Braid or P-Line Spin X Braid

Nice test, is it oversized?

Missed your knot test
This line was tested before I was doing the knot test.
Diawa knock it out of the park with this 8 braid grand line.
It's a very competitive price too.
After trying daiwa PE brraid saltiga , daiwa braid x8 feels like rope
Please can you test Daiwa Saltiga 12, this line is so expensive, it would be good to see if its all just marketing.
I am a big fan of the Daiwa lines so yes I would love to test it.

@@thelinelaboratory Interesting, i think Australian measurement is less closer to reality, thanks for the info sir.
and then i am here in austria where it says 40lbs and i get 20lbs :(
