      Dear GOD why do these nuts believe they need to dump so much run off crap on their Lawns that creates Algae bloom, unsafe drinking conditions etc. Help me understand GOD ? Why wouldn't they understand to first grow the right grasses that naturally crowds weeds out ? Kentucky Blue in the most northern regions, Zoysia grass in the southern regions, both crowd out both repair themselves both require very low amounts of fertilizer the first year or 2 to establish all facts Kiddies 😉

      Fact I lived in a trailer park, young married twins just starting out in life. The yard was solid weeds like concrete. I bought 10/10/10 estate brand fertilizer 4 15lbs bag's 2 50 lbs bag's of some cheap Kentucky Blue grass it had 10% weed seed in it. Fertilizer it's self kills weeds they like the opposite. The second year I used only 2 15lbs bag's of fertilizer. The next 10 year's zero I had no weeds completely crowded out choked right off.

      I kept that Kentucky Blue grass at 4 inches and knocked a 1/2 off at 4 & 1/2 inches tall. Watered 3 time's a week mowed twice a week. Never aerated never a lawn disease. Left, right and behind me the lot's all had weeds like concrete, dandelion being the worst. My lawn was so thick dense and lush I never got another in 10 year's. When I sold my trailer the yard guys ended up mowing it on a riding mower they asked my friend what did he do to that lawn it almost stalls out our 18hp Kohler 38 inch deck every time they mowed. My friend told them I don't know he just knows how to grow a great lawn.

    Here in Minnesota we have a whole lot of snow sitting on our lawns so I think I'll just hold off throwing down and spraying and praying until things get a little warmer. In the meantime I will scratch the lawn care itch watching you do yours! A little envious if I don't say so myself.
    I started my lawn care journey with you about May of 2021 when I felt I could do better with my lawn care game, and with the pandemic and working from home and working on my Master's degree, I felt I needed something to get me out of the office for a little while and get some fresh air. You have inspired me to do my best and really pay attention to the details to get my lawn looking its finest. was a little late to the game last year so no pre-emergent and I had some craziness to battle throughout the year, but this year I have a plan and ready to get at it.

    2022 is going to be my lawn's year to shine, hopefully. I just bought some of your Prodiamine granular fertilizer to try and end my battle with the tough weeds. I had my house built 18 years ago, in Pinellas County, and the lawn was perfect until I hired a cheap yard mowing co. and I think they brought the weeds from other lawns to my house. And then there were 2 years we had freezes and my yard has been toast ever since. I am going to take pictures and, hopefully, document the transformation.

      @kalebtaylor2504 2 роки тому

      Sorry I just saw this. John Perry recommended me to use Isoxaben that you use in a sprayer. It works for a lot of the common weeds here in Utah! However I have not had much need for a pre-emergent for my lawn, I don't care for the extra chemical and I don't mind spending 5 mins in the morning before work pulling weeds by hand. Plus my lawn is shaded by 2 huge sycamore trees so weeds tend to struggle.

    This is a great guide Allyn! One thing that you may want to add to one of your sprayer videos, is some quick sprayer maintenance. I found out after a season's worth of use, that the wand will get clogged up (even after rinsing properly) and it affects your output and the consistency of the spray pattern. There is a little filter (like a sprinkler head filter) in a lot of these sprayer wands that needs to be rinsed out... did wonders for my next app after it was cleared. I suppose you could also go "John Perry" and just take the filter out for maximum overdrive, but I haven't tested those waters... :)

    Huge Poa Annua problem in my lawn. My plan for fall '24 is: Level, aerate, over seed and Tenacity in late August/early Sept. and then Prodiamine as pre-emergent for the Poa, late Sept/early Oct. Thoughts on this? I did a preemergent of Prodiamine this Spring for Crabgrass, but I would still be under the annual limit. My concerns are with the newly growing grass which will be 5 ish weeks established at this point, and with the combination of Tenacity followed by Prodiamine. Thanks!

      Joel - we're about to be in the mid-60s, low 40s next week a little north of you here in Hampton Roads. I think the soil temps will average out to about 55F. This is my first time using pre-emergent. We had an absolutely awful weed year last year in our new house (moved here after 20 years in Chesapeake). So, in the fall, we aerated, put down a boatload of compost, and managed to get some decent grass growing. We have no significant weeds yet and I don't want to lose all the hard work we did last year. So, what do you think? Is this the time to hit it with pre-emergent or should we wait to see what March brings? I know we're likely to have another week or two of near freezing overnight, but does it matter that much?
      These LCN videos are terrific. What a great resource.

    • @Ryush806
      @Ryush806 3 роки тому +1

      Dithiopyr is just fine for St Aug preemergent. Really depends on if you have a specific weed you have trouble with. I get lots of lespedeza and the prodiamine label doesn’t list that as a weed it controls. I’ll be using dithiopyr on my St Aug since it DOES list lespedeza.
      You can mix any of the biostims together with it just fine. If you’re concerned, get a small jar of your dithiopyr mix and add a bit of the other product. As long as it doesn’t precipitate out chunks or set up you’re good to go.

    Any negatives if you accidentally over apply?

      Visible damage, no. But it's not good for roots and soil life to over-apply.

    Do I really need a pre emergent? My yard has gotten pretty thick and doesn't get many weeds. I have started just spot treated the dozen or so weeds that will pop up each year. Is this an ok strategy?

      Higher if possible. 20 is the minimum. I prefer 40-50 which is the max for these tips.

    Hey Allyn, I just put down my pre-emergent up here in New York, soil temperature was about 49 degrees. It is raining some today and more rain tomorrow. Is that too much rain for the pre-emergent?
