I have 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 AND 2018 Type R. The type R was 1/4 the price and best car for the $ I have ever owned (out of 22 Porsches). Great fun and so versatile.
Great presentation! With such quality, the likes and subscribers are gonna go up in no time! Both awesome cars! On a side note, I’m not sure the condition of both car tyres on the timed lap, but I have a feeling with fresh tyres on both cars, the timing from the civic might be closer than we imagined given that front wheel drive cars typically depend more on tyre condition for a fast lap.
Thanks Errol! We did our best to ensure both cars had equal running before their timed laps - it was a pretty warm day so you’re right, tyre conservation was key. Don’t forget to subscribe to our channel :)
I actually have both (well had both, traded my 718 GT4 for a 718 Spyder) and without having watched this video yet I can tell you that the Type R LE feels as focused and serious when you really push it hard. I’ve heard several reviewers say the Type R is the hatchback that Porsches GT/Motorsports division would have built if they had done a hot hatchback and I couldn’t agree more, it really has a similar type of motorsport feel to it
@@christmasisawesome9348 Apologies I never saw this question, I got rid of the GT4 for a Spyder because I like the open topped experience and back in 2020 718 GT4’s were quite a bit easier to come by than 718 Spyder’s (I’ve heard that is no longer the case anymore and 718 GT4’s are more desirable and worth more than Spyder version). I wasn’t able to get a Spyder allocation at the time. Between the 2 cars though, I much prefer the Spyder as it has all the performance and handling of the GT4 with the ability to put the top down.
Really nice video with good photo and personal comments. Today I drive a GT4 of first generation and absolutly love it, track it a'lot and it's so fun and exiting to drive on the edge. The Limited Honda Type-R looks amazing and is a car I would like to try and maybe also bye if i find one, sounds like a bargain compared to the more expensive German. Seeing forward to more videos from you. Keep it up!
i own a 2017 type r and i am very impressed with it. However, watching this video, I am surprised how bouncy this one is, and how smooth the porsche is. I think you should have compared the base 718 2.0 litre turbo with the standard type r 2.0 litre turbo - that would be very interesting - the type r has a little more power but is front wheel drive/front engined - the base 718 is about $25,000 more expensive in Canada, but mid-engined and rwd. I think their weights are about the same.
Honda really made a great car. People hate front wheel drive but it’s racing and compared against 3 times as much more priced car. 👍🏻. But I am Miata owner, once Miata, always Miata 👍🏻
R mode stiffens the suspension for track but I think that sport mode is the sweet spot as the suspension is more compliant and it has the same throttle response it makes +R mode a bit redundant because of how uncomfortable and firm it is
Agree with the earlier comment about Sport mode being a nice sweet spot - issue with Sport though is stability control is only fully defeatable in +R mode after a 10 sec push on the button
The suspension with the LE is much stiffer than the stock. So much so that it can actually negatively impact in some scenarios. So it’s not quite super cut and clean that the LE is quicker than the regular.
Great job man, very good video! For next driving videos with manual cars, it could be possible to fix a camera on the pedalbox to film your footwork please? :)
Given the same power the Type R is faster - I embarass Porsches daily in my Type R lol. Compare a 2L Cayman to a 2L Type R and you'll see just how slow Porsches really are lol
To me it’s glaringly obvious the Porsche is a much better and more suited track machine The CTR was fighting the track as much as the driver was fighting the car. Not impressed Porsche all day
One car is $95,000 to $125,000. The other is $45,000 to $55,000. I would hope the Porsche would win the test. Regardless, for the price the Type R is leaps and bounds the best track ready car you can buy for the price point. A Type R is attainable for a lot of people. A $110,000 Porsche is not.
This just makes me sad that Honda isn't making a RWD sport car any more. They have the engine and suspension tuning chops, but just won't take the next step.

@@cinch Most of the fast ones are here in Southern California - 600 to 700hp anyway I think you guys will have to find a local which shouldnt be too hard - they should have a few bolt on 450hp cars around your area - maybe even a few with p600 drop in setups

@@TheFK8Life There aren’t many FK8s with “600 to 700hp.” Besides, that’s overkill for the front axle. A basic 400hp Type R with lighter wheels and proper 255 or 265 tires is just about right on track.
@@williambellisIII lmfao how many times have you driven a 600hp on track? my guess is zero - I drive my car daily on 265s and it gaps alot of local P cars - im switching to a 305 for more grip on boost mid corner but its totally manageable. Great comparison I'd love a Gt4 but at 4x the price I paid for a new Type r in Australia im happy with my choice
Type R still is the gt3 rs of the hot hatchbacks
Would love to see a base Cayman vs. the standard Type R. Think it’d be very evenly matched, and MAYBE in the Type R’s favor.
