Ballistically it really hits a sweet spot between 9mm. My major problem is that it is being marketed as a 9mm alternative instead of being chambered in pocket pistols as a serious upgrade for .32 and .380.

The main problem with this video is the fact that because he is shooting with the wrong hand it automatically will lose 50-100 feet per second and at least 1 inch of penetration. It's a verifiable fact that I found on the internet.

I found 3 different at Academy. Remington, Blazer and Hornandy defense rounds

I like that it doesn’t waste as much energy passing the superficial layers of the target yet opens up to about half an inch
Yeah a lot of people talk trash about the 30 Super Carry as if it was made to replace 9mm it was designed to replace 380 ACP because of all the problems they had to expense and penetration who are the Super Carry now covers those bases
Replaced mine. 380 is not even in the same ballpark. 300 fps more with a heavier 104 gr bullet, and a much greater sectional density. (Federal HST)
The Federal Hydro-Shok Deep has breathed new life into the 380. Brilliant design by keeping the lead off of the pedals. Basically a wadcutter with Ginsu knives.
Capacity, and weight goes to the 30 as well.

It seems to be an effective round and a good caliber for carry. It's just a shame it doesn't seem to have gained popularity and heading in the "dud" direction. It may become the next .45 GAP or .357 Sig: no one making that gun and ammo neatly impossible to find and if you do find it, extremely high prices and limited selection.
357 sig is still readily available and conversion for many mainstream guns still exist.

I purchased one primarily for the reason its not a 9mm.
Try the Federal HST. My EZ clocks the 1250 box label fps, pretty consistent, less out of my Shield +. Nasty bullet like the rest of the HST line. Cheaper to reload, more capacity, and I'll take the extra penetration from the sectional density. Sold all my 9's except a couple, and have switched over to 32. 327 mag, and the 30 uses the same bullets, and a no brainer for if you reload. Couldn't imagine being stuck with factory ammo like I once was. The ability to tailor your rounds to the gun, and purpose is well worth the investment.
The timing of the release of .30SC was unfortunate -- I'll say stupid -- considering we were still in an ammo shortage at the time. Also did we need something above .380 but below 9mm? Some might say yes, many have clearly said no. The supply of .30SC ammo in my area flucuates, occasionally many boxes on the shelf, more frequently none at all. I remember when Academy Sports & Outdoors had the S&W .30SC marked down to $199.99 not long after its introduction. I haven't seen one for sale locally since.
At another time, under different circumstances, the .30SC might've been accepted with open arms and open wallets 😊.
If ruger modified the grip of the lcp max to use a converted max9 mag and changed the feed lips and follower to 30 super carry,
Strengthened slightly the upper and maybe an integral comp,
That would be a gun that made 30 super carry a totally different option,
That would be a 13+1 and 16+1 in a gun the size of an lcp max,
And maybe offer an XL model with the same grip but a 3 1/2" to 4" barrel,
With that your getting a pocket gun with a flush 13 plus 1 that getting standard 9mm 115gr power and would be way lighter and smaller than even the 365,
But the ultimate would be a custom designed stack and a half 30SC as thin as possible with a 10 plus 1 that would be considerably smaller and thinner than even an lcp max.
Had no problem finding ammunition
In Colorado there is at 4 different loadings in all ammo stores.
I bought one a couple of years ago and every time I let someone else shoot it, I always had a hard time getting it back. Two of my friends have each bought one. You can get one for $300.00 now.
If Sig put out a p365 in 30SCC, i think that would def help to improve the lack of popularity.

A 70 grain Extreme defender would work.
The price of ammo is a real problem 28 dollars for a box of fmj when 9 mil is around 15 dollars

I think Federal did better with .327 Federal Magnum. That cartridge struck the right balance between .38 and .357, whilst having an extra round of capacity in a small revolver.
.30SC has less merit by comparison, since 9mm already has pretty low recoil, and capacity is less relevant. With revolvers, an increase from 5 to 6 is noteworthy. In an automatic, going from 10-12 is not significant.
I disagree that "nobody asked for". People are always seeking more capacity, less recoil and more effectiveness in their EDC weapons. So, in effect they did and continue to ask for the 30 SC since the 30 SC was designed to provide more of all of this.
Just got my s&w shield plus in 30 sc. Also i got a hi point carbine in 30 sc. They say that the carbine puts out bout 1500 feet per second
I'd be interested in 30 Super Carry, when a unique & interesting firearm comes out for it that does something different design wise; I'm not interested in another cookie cutter pistol

The 327 have at least some users that believe in it and found it practical. So it may no be mainstream but have a place in the market. The 30 SC, don't even have a small group of fans

In my opinion this round was made to be dead before it came out. This is how i see it. 9mm is a mini van, with a manual sliding door. Then the company make another mini van, the exact same but with an automatic electric door. It is may be a tad better? But it just aint good enough to sell up and buy the new one for.
soo I own two 30 caliber handguns. well three cause I got two of one. The Ruger black hawk in .30 carbine and a CZ 521 in 7.62 x 25 The Rugers are in no way a defensive or carry gun... I got em as gifts from now deceased friends. The velocity is very high and energy is in the .357 range. it is a very flat shooting round out in the field. The CZ 52... more maybe what you are interested in this is in a Makarov size gun and shoots the soviet round in the 1500 fps or more range it is... 'explosive' and caused us to worry since it would easily penetrate the vests of the day One other thing.. I have used more than a few chronos and have been shooting half a century? The Garmin is expensive but worth every penny. I take it with me all the time about the size and weight of a deck of cards. I have NEVER had a bad reading. no setup time really.. the ability to shoot at any angle and not think about the chrono. the readings are close to my 'screen' type but with no errors or duplicats. They are relatively expensive but worth it. I paid $600 and do not regret it.
Sounds like a 380 magnum🤔, (bullet weight) 100 gr @1200, or maybe a 9mm🤔🥴🙃
