Morbid Angel is an American death metal band from Tampa, Florida, started in 1983 by guitarist, primary composer and sole remaining original member Trey Azagthoth (George Emmanuel III) with vocalist and bassist Dallas Ward, and drummer Mike Browning [NOCTURNUS] Widely considered one of the most influential death metal bands and an important transition of death metal from its thrash metal roots, they were one of the first bands to feature guttural vocals, up-tempo blast beats, multiple tempo changes and a dark atmosphere. They have been described as one of "the most influential and emulated bands in death metal" alongside Obituary, Death, Cynic, Suffocation, Autopsy, Deicide, having been cited as an influence by many later bands. They were also the first death metal band to experience commercial success with being signed to a major label Giant Records in 1992, heavy rotation of their music videos on MTV, and having the music video for the song "God of Emptiness" shown on an episode of Beavis and Butt-Head. The first three studio albums - Altars of Madness (1989), Blessed Are the Sick (1991), Covenant (1993) remain essential death metal classics.
British music magazine Terrorizer ranked Altars of Madness first in its list "Top 40 greatest death metal albums". Decibel magazine also rated guitarist Trey Azagthoth as the number one "death metal guitarist ever". The band's songs are complex in arrangement, owing to the considerable technical skills of both Azagthoth as well as drummer Pete Sandoval, the latter of whom also played in the grindcore band Terrorizer. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Morbid Angel is the third best-selling death metal band in the United States (after Cannibal Corpse and Deicide up until 2003 with sales of over 445,000), with their third album Covenant being the best-selling death metal album of the Soundscan era with over 150,000 units sold.
The band's original lyrical themes, when helmed by Vincent (and Azagthoth and Browning respectively) focused mostly on Satanism, occultism and blasphemous subject matter, but from Formulas Fatal to the Flesh onward, via Azagthoth's influence, the lyrics moved toward the ancient Sumerian gods. Much of this is a nod to the Simon Necronomicon, which was influenced by Sumerian mythology, the author H. P. Lovecraft, and fascination with the Roman Empire. During Steve Tucker's tenure they take on more anti-religious and barbaric themes, namely of the strong overcoming the weak.
In 1996, shortly after the release of their live album titled Entangled in Chaos, bassist/vocalist David Vincent departed the band and was replaced by Steve Tucker. They released their fifth full-length album Formulas Fatal to the Flesh in 1998, which was considered more aggressive and complex than their previous album Domination. With Tucker, the band went on to release Gateways to Annihilation and Heretic in 2000 and 2003 respectively. Tucker briefly left Morbid Angel in 2001 and was replaced by former Hate Eternal bassist and vocalist Jared Anderson. That year, the band joined Pantera, Skrape, Slayer, Static-X on the Extreme Steel Tour of North America, Pantera's last major tour. In 2002, Anderson left the band and Tucker re-assumed his position as bassist and vocalist.

Trey solos are quantum physics
What I have always found appealing about Morbid Angel is that they are unorthodox in their musical approach.
Trey is still one of my idols since I was a kid but, knowing I'm now becoming an old man myself it sucks to see he is starting to show the signs of Arthritis in his hands. Everyone should enjoy these shows in person while they can because there will soon come a day when he can't do this anymore and it's not his fault. Age is the worst enemy of us all.
Ageless, I am..
@@alextrusk_ Keep on watching my friend... His hands and body are failing him with each show. Only just a few days ago did he nearly collapse in the middle of a set. I'm being optimistic in that it is just health issues like i said before but, many people are starting to come forward that it is much more than that and that substance abuse is catching up to the almighty Trey Azagthoth. Which is even more sad IMHO.
I'm sure, if, he stops drinking alcohol and keeps healthy. He should be fine.
@@satyricon86 IDK rumor has it that he has a much bigger problem than just alcohol atm and has for quite a long time. Especially after some recent footage of at least once show I've seen.
@@Demonlord468 hopefully, he takes care of himself. I hope it's not drugs. Don't want to lose another great guitarist. We lost Pat O'Brien(alive but you know) and Alexi laiho (R.I.P).
Steve Tucker: ''Ageless, still I am''
Tuckers hair: ''Nope'' ^^
Great show
hahaha
Trey & his small fortune of cool vintage guitars he still brings on tour
Those are brand new Ibanez prestige models, he is endorsed, he doesn't bring his old ones on tour.
@@ScoobieSwisher7413 Take a look again
@@ScoobieSwisher7413Trey said on his youtube channel comment section that he isn't endorsed by any company and the ibanez prestige line is "Newb shit"
@@mioakiyama4919 But hes been playing them 30 years including in this video....got it. He still leaves his older ones at home on tours.
He does not get endorsement..BC Rich made a guitar w his signature without his permision( this is over 18 yrs ago) and he never authorized it so he ended up w the only prototype which is that horrible colorful ironbird. I think deep inside he is a CC De Ville fan, look at the colors he used😂
Tucker is better than ever, god damn!! This band shall conquer the world...again! Hail Trey and MA!
Yes they all did a fantastic job..also this drummer Charlie nailed it!! Compare his playing to Pete Commando those are mighty big shoes to fill!
FFS, Trey is truly the heart and soul of this band, and the stuff that MA recorded with Steve in late 90s early 2000s was just amazing. Formulas.... get outta here, what an insane album! The filthy stinky sound of KD? Any time! Oh, and I can absolutely see myself having a beer with Steve in a random bar talking about this and that. With Evil D.... not so much.
Exactly, I concure. FFTTF is by far my favorite MA album followed by Gateways. Formulas is from another planet as is Trey. I have talked with Steve before, he is very down to earth fella.
you can really see here, the finger under the string technique trey uses in warped :]
The only MORBID ANGEL I need to see/follow.
Trey is King.
Cannibal might be the most straight forward death metal band- but they can never bring that lava that Morbid Angel has!
Excellent Steve tucker looks like bjorn ironside killer 🤘🏻 🤘🏻 🤘🏻
Stone cold Steve tearing it up..👊 \,,/
HELL YEAH !!!! 💀💀💀💀🍻🍻🍻🍻
Yeah his vocals sound great here. Prefer his vocals any day to latter day Davey boy vincents
WHAT?
Awesome, thanks for sharing!
I saw video 2019 then this, Trey looks so much wise solid and dominant I love his stance he owns MA he is MA the coolest band on the planet 🪐
Thanxs for sharing Master amazing show!!!!
40 Years of Madness!!🤘🤘🫡🥁Still one of my All time favorites and important!! Dig the look Steve.
Exactly. Trey is such a genius. So creative.
Stone Cold Steve did a great job with everything including the classics!!!
@@MURZBO Totally agree!! Trey is the Eddie Van Halen of DM!!🤘🫡Hailz!!
Saw them at the Regent last night. Great show as usual. Thanks for throwing this up! Great stuff! 🤘🏻🎶
Excellent, thanks for this :)
If I heard right and that drummer filled in with only 2 weeks prep, he's the real MVP
I know right!! Charlie did such a kickass job with the whole Morbid Angel catalog!!!
It wasn't 2 weeks prep.
@@bloodfeast123 well don't be shy buddy, how much prep was it?
I have no idea how some of these people who fill in learn entire impossible-tier sets like that so fast. That is just mind boggling to me, as a drummer.
@@drewbocop if you can already play that speed. these song structures are quite simple.
Legend!
Sick footage man, I hope they keep touring , beautiful to see trey still going
Indeed. Trey is truly a living legend 🙌
Looks like brick by brick. Awesome show anywhere they play
Obrigado por tudo e parabéns pelo trabalho
Great to see Steve and Trey at it again.
I was there! 🔥🤘🔥
Gracias por subir el vídeo!!! De verdad estoy muy agradecido por tu trabajo! Se nota mucho la dolencia de Trey en sus manos... Ojalá se recupere pronto de eso 😢
great line up !!!!!!
Trey the epitome of coolness
Always stoned haha
Thanks a lot for the upload 🤘
great that it sold out! I'll be buying some merch to support the band (seeing them in April), thanks for upload man
Noice yeah Morbid Angel has some sick merch love their logo 🔥
@@MURZBO Vader here in Philly tonight, same place MA will be in April. Working late or I'd go.
Saw them in Milwaukee last night... Summoning Redemption may just be the best death metal song ever written. What a monster of a song, especially live. Thanks for posting this!
That was also my favorite song of the night!!! 48:55 simply perfect in every way
Summoning Redemption is a ferocious tune! The highlight of the set and possibly their best song.
Easily my favorite Trey solo. Some of those runs he gets into is insane. Such a massive track
Thank you for this upload!
Glad that MA sill has more shows planned.
Definitely worth seeing!!!
That ominous intro audio is a level in the original doom on ps1!! So cool they used that. Morbid fucking angel 🤟🤙
HIM AND KARL ARE BIG DOOM FANS I HOPE NILE DOES SOME DOOM STUFF
C'est un groupe incroyable, l'atmosphère qu'il dégage est inégalée, cela tient du génie musical et bien au delà, mais seul les membres du groupe connaissent la vérité sur leur musique .
morbid angel are masters long live
Hail Morbid! Hail Trey and Tucker 🤘🏼🤘🏼 can't wait for the new album
Absolute LEGENDS 🔥🤘
Sick! best tour name ever
Good work...... Thanks 😁
the only thing that could make this better would be a cameo from the cat in the thumbnail
He's been listening to Morbid Angel ever since he was a cute little adorable baby kitten. This photo is him in his senior years Morbid Angel for life!
Badass version of "Ageless .." and "Summoning.." mindblowing.
Agree
Simplemente una maldita obra de arte !!!🤘🏻☠️
True Morbid Angel!
🔥MORBID ANGEL🔥🤘👹🤘🔥🔥🔥
Summoning Redemption 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Damn- wish bil ur sag or prayer of hatred was on this set. Either way- brutal!! Nothing tops florida death metal
There's lots of songs I wish they played too but that's what happens when it's a band that's released so many great albums...so much to choose from!!!
So sick !!!!!
I appreciated David Vincent as a lead vocalist and bass player and I was able to understand his singing.
Don't get me wrong I do appreciate Steven Tucker also.
David Vincent was for all the best albums put out Alters of Madness,Blessed Are the Sick,Covenant and Domination,Entangled In
Chaos
FFtF is clearly the best MA album
yeah David Vincent had more variety in his vocal performances, but I think he is a bad front man. Kinda cringy. Also, it is a literal fact that the two best Morbid Angel albums are Covenant and FFttF. Covenant has that “classical” sound, but FFttF clearly pushed the boundaries of what was possible. FFttF and Chaosphere both came out in 98.
That ibanez is sick 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Too sick
Yes Ave
13:10 To The Victor The Spoils
Only: Obituary!!!
Gods
I wanted to see them with Steve in the UK. Just a few years ago they cancelled the whole Europe tour.... ....fucking hell.
They cut off the epic outro of God of Emptiness
Also where is the love for Where the Slime lives? I figured that would be a staple of their shows
Good idea they should definitely play Where the Slime Lives it's an epic song. Steve's vocals could surely do it justice!
@@MURZBO Steve's voice would make it better than the original 🤘🤘
Why did they not finish God Of Emptiness…that was my favorite part. I like Garden Of Disdain a LOT but I wish each song had its own chance
First show I ever saw. Flash’s Cleveland
Damm, I've seen MA twice (98' and 2017).. And I never noticed how much trey abuses his guitars.
Feel free to throw me in the maze, but frankly I like both.
I wish they would play The pillars crumbling😪😪
Méme sans le commando,le Death band that's all‼️
I want to play for this band 😂😅🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Can you guys please tell me which kind of bass is Steve playing? Thanks!
Wish Pete would play with them again.
Pete still plays with David Vincent
They got an amazing drummer
Tributo a mórbid ángel
Piada
Trey's on the left? Can't tell, he was usually on the right when I saw them with Pantera, Soulfly and two other good bands in Towson, Md. in the 90's--stunning show to say the least
Trey is stage left (lime green guitar).
I was also at that Towson show!
When are they coming back to Baltimore Maryland?or Washington DC?
@@lucemagee4534 are they coming back to Towson Maryland Baltimore Maryland or Washington DC anytime soon I once partied with them in Florida with obituary and my bros band afterlife
Привет из России 🤘
I hear they bring the roof down.

Are you recording with the in camera mic?
I have a stupid question. What "acid" are we talking about? 40 years of taking acid?
Good question idk but I wouldn't be surprised...his guitar solos are next level way more far out than hendrix who took acid on the regular
I didn’t recognize Steve without his hair 😅
Turned to Steve Austin
who? ;)
I actually like Steve Tuckers vocal style way better on the David Vincent songs. He sounds awesome.
I know right! He does those so perfectly on this!!
i was at this show his voice sounded fucking brutal, brought so much ferocity to the songs
Nope!
😂
Pete Commando
Charlie Koryn filling in for Commando!!! He did an amazing job!!
Where is scott fuller ?
32:30 They weren't supposed to not play any songs from the era of david vincent ?
Meh I think Steve definitely prefers to play what he's contributed to, but there's just too many classics from the past. We were just listening to spotify shuffle of Morbid Angel catalog driving down from LA there's so many great songs which popped up automatically from Altars Blessed Covenant...but at least Summoning Redemption eventually popped up!!
Any word on how Trey is doing?
ac
I’ve been a Morbid Angel fan for a year and I don’t know what lava or acid mean, can someone explain pls?
I've been a Morbid Angel fan since their first full length LP Altars of Madness came out & idk either. But I'm guessing it means Trey did acid and lava is his molten magma guitar riffs/solos!!
Morbid Angel is so much better with Tucker on vocals
It was impressive how well he executed these 3 classics:
32:30 Day of Suffering
35:05 Unholy Blasphemy
38:31 Rapture
@@MURZBO yeah the entire Covenant album would sound much better with Tucker, same with Domination. Live performance like these is proof of it. Trey is such a death metal genius I forgive him for that I album but never listen to it... not even Tucker could save that mess lmao
I highly agree!!
His voice has more bass growl, he's my favorite too.
I miss the hair 😔
Where is the cat?
Why Tucker is without hair?
Ask him! How tf am I supposed to know 😂
@@MURZBO I have the same hairstyle but in my case it's not a choice...I'm bald...
he shaved it off
Who makes that bass?
Blakhart
@@MURZBO Thank you !
\m/
Where are the original members?
That's Trey founder & main songwriter
Jesus loves you ❤
Who is on vocals? Doesn't look like Steve Tucker
It is him!!! That's what happens when you have a full head of hair and shave it all off. Looks different.
Wow, Steve Tucker has lost nothing of his power!
Haha!
só não gostei da guitarra patriota do Trey hahahaha
Hahahahaha, só mais 72 horas
When i hear God of Emptiness, i think of beavis and butthead
Hahaha me too
David vincent is morbid angel not this dude
Morbid Angel keeps up a death machine, right now relying on the weight of experience to play these morbid and heretic anthems live.
Who is that on vocals?
Steve Tucker
Hail Satan !!!
Acid? I don't want to be on any psychedelics when I listen to Morbid..
@@ianswift3521 I think you missed the point, morbid Angel would be scary to listen to on psychedelics. when I'm on psychedelics music sounds totally different, I love the band shpongle while I'm psychedelics but it doesn't do it for me when I'm sober. Have you ever taken a psychedelic?
Morbid Angel asks for help!!! Seriously, this is what Morbid has become???, I prefer the bastards from I Am Morbid with Pete and David back. Trey is more screwed than a poor old woman, where was the sound of Covenant and Domination???, it is true that times change but not to be mediocre, monotonous, boring at its best. It seems that Pete and David Although The Arrogant of Try doesn't accept it; They contributed much more than what is heard today. And if the Illud Divinum Insanus is true and the new thing is not far behind Kingdoms Disdained. But somehow since so many bands have returned there should be a sound that conveys the good times. Hopefully Morbid returns to the brutality of the early 90's.
What kinda help are they asking for I'm curious
I'm sorry - just MY opinion but that set list just sucks - they played way too much stuff off the last album and - stuff from Heretic? REALLY? You play stuff off of Heretic but absolutely NOTHING from Formulas which is arguably the best Tucker album? Come on - that makes absolutely no sense at all.
This is also the tour for Kingdoms which could explain the amount of songs from the album. they couldn't tour when Kingdoms came out (pandemic) they could have played something from Formulas however Steve started writing on Gateways. My favorite song Summoning Redemption is a banger displaying his vocal talent, heavy af, plus that cool drum part. But you can always request songs off Formulas at the show they might play it!
@@MURZBO Fair enough and I'm definitely a Steve Tucker fan but a lot of 'older' bands with large and well respected back catalogs don't play half their sets from their new album when they tour, unless the album is killer which Kingdoms flat out is NOT. Anyone who says otherwise is either BS-ing themselves or needs to go listen to a lot more DM. For instance That Malefic Throne EP that Steve Tucker did with Gene Palubicki blows that tired ass Kingdoms stuff completely off the planet.
Why would you want to hear the same old songs? Personally I cant stand when a band plays the same played out set list of 30 year old songs over & over! Slayer is famous for the same set list year after year!
@PatientMental well I certainly won't ever complain whenever Suffocation plays Infecting the Crypts it's nostalgic brings me back to childhood same with Morbid Angel Altars and Blessed
@@caljerm yes I heard Steve's project material it's absolutely killer stuff
Damn good audio quality.
Watching in prep for The Oriental show tomorrow night!! Can’t wait to rage!
Hahaha nice!! Enjoy the show!!!
I went to the Oriental Theater last night and I was so disappointed in Morbid Angel. It was BY FAR their worst show ever. I enjoyed the other 2 bands much more....
@@edwardvaldez4491 crypta was awesome!!! I was so sad revocation couldn’t make it. It was my first time seeing morbid so I thought they killed it, sorry it didn’t compare to their golden years. Definitely past their prime but as a young metal head I was glad to see the legendary Tray!
@@edwardvaldez4491 you must be deaf and blind!
Is not the same without Pete Sandoval and David Vincent
