    We all want people to like us. And Ellen Degeneres seems to have that down to a science.
    Ellen Degeneres is one of the most likable hosts on TV. And it’s largely due to the types of jokes that she makes. Almost all hosts are funny, but Ellen’s style of comedy has a way of instantly endearing her guests to her.
    Today we are going to talk about the most common types of jokes that Ellen makes, how you can use them to get people to immediately like you, and some habits that you can work on to just generally be funnier throughout your day.
    1:10 - The kind of jokes that make people sad, ones that Ellen rarely makes
    2:08 - Self-deprecating jokes make people feel comfortable around Ellen
    3:10 - Poking fun at subjects that people are not insecure about allows Ellen to crack jokes without upsetting people
    5:20 - Making ego boosting jokes that make other people feel good, makes Ellen someone that people want to spend more time with
    5:59 - Ellen can also joke around and just simply be silly

      Everybody should do and be the exact same thing. All women should have long hair and all men should have muscles. If that doesn't happen, they are lesser people and should be made fun of and also some of their human rights should be revoked. Appearance is everything, let's all judge each other based on how we look, the world will improve ten fold. People who look different should hate themselves and feel bad. Women with short hair and masculine clothes hold no human value whatsoever and also let's all assume they don't have feelings. Men who are feminine don't deserve to live.
      Yeah, no. Have some empathy and realise not everyone is the same as you.

      It really depends on how it is done: a slight jab at a bad habit you have will make most people laugh, especially if you have a broad grin to support it. On the other hand, frequent jokes about health and personal issues with no sign of happiness would seem like you are being down on yourself.

    • @nunyabiznez6381

      You have to be strong enough to withstand that. I'm a restaurant manager and I use it to put employees at ease. But you are right it an backfire. I used it once and a coworker told me I need to stop putting myself down. She didn't get that it was humor or why I use it. People in authority can usually get away with it successfully. A homeless person or jail inmate probably should not try it.

      No, not really. In Science, you learn by sitting in a classroom and take tests to determine your grasp of the subject. So I have to ask, how many people "major" in being funny. That is, sit in a classroom, learn the mechanics behind being funny, and then take tests to determine your grasp of the subject? I don't think there's a community college anywhere that offers a course like that!

      Jo Jo there's a difference between self-depreciation & making jokes about others (Leno, Fallon, & all other nighttime talk show hosts do this in their monologues). I believe you may be confused regarding the definition of self-depreciating? It is "the act of reprimanding oneself by belittling, undervaluing, or disparaging oneself, or being excessively modest. It can be used in humor and tension release." Those who have watched Conan O'Brien know he constantly made, & to this day, makes fun of himself. He's the best at it & the funniest.

    • @SeeBillyRun
      @SeeBillyRun 7 років тому

      Jo Jo What happened between Leno & O'Brien, being "mean", & any other sidebar you bring up is irrelevant to my original comment regarding self-depreciation. I stated my opinion: O'Brien is funnier than Degeneres at self-deprecation. Once again, to self-depreciate is to make fun of oneself. It has nothing to do with making fun of others. I don't know why you keep reverting to your "he's mean"; so that negates his ability to make fun of himself argument; the two styles are not mutually exclusive. Lastly, it has nothing to do with my original comment. I never wrote that O'Brien is the nicest host; so that's why I provided you with the definition to the specific term of self-depreciation. I did not explain comedy to you. Have a great day :)

      No, not at all. When as a morose and grumpy adolescent someone told me : 'Its OK to be miserable and negative because its easy to be morose and miserable. Just remember no one is going to like, even less love you for it. YOU control YOU. These are YOUR moods that YOU chose to adopt. Stop being a victim of your age/hormones. There is a cheerful you in there and that's the one we love, can we have him back please?'
      Being cheerful and happy when you dont actually feel happy is absolutely NOT being hypocritical or lying. Its driving yourself to where you want to be. If you are in a negative mood and are letting everyone know then you have chosen to be a victim and decided to punish everyone else for your own laziness.

      Good luck making holocaust jokes on a first date or insulting the boss in a job interview. I think the point of this is that it's safe humour for when you need to make a good impression - if you're on the same page as someone and aren't worried about offending them then make any joke you like.

    • @likesgymnastics5767

      Fucking normies. The ellen show - that is normie as fuck. The 3 types of jokes mentioned in this video - I think this isn't normie comedy. Everybody I know loves joking on other people's expense. Nobody around here jokes like Ellen, in a self deprecating way. Indeed, people are giving their best efforts to offend somebody and this isn't America where people get easily offended. Its real fun.

    • @Sellipsis
      @Sellipsis 7 років тому +1

      My problem is I don't see myself as much of a texter. I don't normally hold conversations over messages unless it's specifically for the purposes of meeting up.
      Guess that's an issue. I just don't really know what I'm supposed to talk to people about.

    • @Gameshunter3012
      @Gameshunter3012 7 років тому +6

      Vurtax Then you need to get a hobby or join a club and then talk to them about that. Talk about your day. Talk about your experiences. Talk about cheesy stuff occasionally too, don't shy away from showing them you're relatable.
      Also, show genuine interest in their lives.Ask them about their days and lives but don't be pushy. If they don't want to talk about something, then don't push the conversation. Crack a joke instead. Also, never show pity if they're telling you a problem. Compliment them instead. Tell them how strong they are for getting through shit. Nobody likes being looked down upon but everyone likes being praised because everyone puts genuine effort into getting by every day.
      You should also look at them in the eye when you talk. Nobody like talking to someone who's looking away from them. And you should never say "Sorry" in situations where you can say "Thanks" (e.g. :"Thanks for listening to me/being here with me." instead of "Sorry for talking for so long/dragging you here with me.") Everyone likes being appreciated but nobody likes being treated like some kind of charity when they're just trying to be friendly and getting to know you.
      What else, what else...
      Show them you're good at stuff but don't brag about being better than them. If they're interested in something you're good at, ask them to hang out and maybe teach them how it's done. If they do something genuinely impressive and interesting, start a conversation about them and get them to teach you. If you're at school or uni tell them to help you with class and do assignments together.
      What am I forgetting...
      Oh, complimenting people is nice but don't overdo it. Compliments should be rare and far in between days. Daily compliments are boring and feel fake. Eventually they'll feel hollow if you always make them and nobody will take you seriously or ask you for advice again.
      Be sure to give advice only when you know what you're talking about. Otherwise, offer support instead and tell them you're willing to help them find answers or just be there for them.
      I'm forgetting shit but, still, moving on...
      Find common ground and common interests but don't go overboard. Nobody likes to hang out with some half-assed copy of themselves. If you want to fit in, try being you instead of being like the person you want to hang out with. If the "you" isn't interesting enough, make it. If hanging out or trying to fit in with people feels way too forced, to the point where you're not even enjoying it anymore, look for new friends but don't forget people who talk to you. Remain friendly and maybe things will change once you show you're not some kind of lapdog, always there for them 24/7. People like to hang out with people who aren't obedient slaves.
      Oh, and you can refuse calls to go out too but never during the first 2 weeks of a friendship and never in quick succession. Be sure to be honest instead of making shitty excuses though. People will appreciate the relatable "I'm too tired/I'm hungover/I slept only 2 hours/I've been studying all day so I can't go out" over some asspull story that could never possibly happen.
      Oh, that's it.
      Hang out with people who you genuinely think would be fun to hang out with. Not everybody just for the sake of "being popular". I've been "popular" in middle and high school. It sucked. If my youtube name is any indication, I don't give a fuck what people think of me. I don't care about being popular and neither should you. 1 true friend is always better than 20 acquaintances.
      That's the jist of it. Knock yourself out, prom king.
