It is just turning 40k into 30k now. With girly man coming back it's like the codex astartes was just ripped up and every legion is just turning into different coloured smurfs. Seth was right all along.

There is more unit diversification but in regards to the structure of units I.e support squads or heavy support squads they are all uniform in weapon option and that is what we are seeing in 40k now. For me, the "flavour, or fluff" of an army is now coming from strats and detachments rather than the models (kit options and alike) and weapons utilised within each chapter, on the marine side at the very least.
Horus heresy gets all the cool stuff 40k has just been getting worse and worse instead of this blood angels box I think I’ll just get an astartes battle force lol

I personally cannot stand the awful old squaty space marines The new heresy stuff is great, nothing against firstborn, but old warhammer just needs to be replaced in a lot of instances. Some old stuff is fine, like a lot of Daemons and some Eldar, but old school space marines just aren't that cool imho.

Corbulo and Gabriel Seth being removed is just ridiculous! I really liked Brother Corbulo from the lore, and simply removing the chapter master of the Fresh Terrors is just F*ing idiotic. My second 40K collection will be Raven Guard.
On the plus side, GW can't take anything away from Ravenguard as they haven't done anything with them beyond Chapter Master choppy. Can't lose it if you don't have it! Which isn't exactly high praise, I know.

Tycho’s finally been booted from the codex despite having been dead since the third war of Armageddon, but was it worth losing the furioso and librarian dreadnought??? I’m gonna say no.
There is no reason Tycho should be out the codex, he is iconic and should always be there. 40k isn't a "most current day only" story, it's a SETTING. Who cares if someone is dead?

I play Deathwatch. I didn't think I could get more insulted, but GW managed it. Taking away core and unique faction units is terrible for everyone: what is next to get the chop? Thunderwolves? Wolf-naughts? At least Imperial Fists, Salamanders and Iron Hands didn't get any real support in order to lose very much, which isn't a consolation.

I do play BA and I'm not. Mildly irked in grass is always greener way for models but the rules are great at least. Now to figure out how to partner my Two old dreads into one big dread 😂
The whole of 10th edition has been a bit of an insult. Design purely around cost cutting to appease shareholders. Hence why everything feels poorly put together and lazy
Not going to like this release is really not good. The Librarian Dread and Gabriel Seth were unnecessary cuts and given they kept a death company data sheet with the bolt rifles was horrible. Honestly it’s bad enough Saguinary Guard and DC look lack luster. GW needs to go back and rethink their plans going forward.
This refresh is such a mixed bag. On one hand it’s a massive kick to the balls of everyone who bought the models that they are now vaulting. On the other hand the rules team was cooking with our detachments.
DA and BA got the opposite treatment. DA got the cool models and only lost one squad and 2 characters that never had models but got trash tier detachments and rules, BA got the cool rules but got absolutely fucked by their models and their lost units
How does a death company captain even make any sense, if they have fallen to the black rage they are mindless killing machines, how is a captain going to be able to keep their wits about them to direct them. Lemartes worked because while he fell to the black rage he was able to resist it to a degree. But a captain is just stupid.
I always thought it was just a Captain who had fallen to the Black Rage, not a Lieutenant with the Black Rage that was promoted lol. It makes sense as that is what Tycho the Lost was, he always kept his Captain Keyword. I do understand though, it doesn't make sense that any leadership role should remain in the throws of the Black Rage, other than exceptions like Lemartes, who have the will to still control themselves with it.

I found that dude's I'm not friends with but I play games with absolutely follow gw religiously and they don't care how long it took me to paint the models or how much money I've spent. Although it is hit and miss because I know of one store where it's a no legends situation and I know of another where everyone plays what they have and what they want within reason.

Seems this edition is great for space marines. You loose a lot of your flavor models and get a fcking atrocious codex (like the dark angels) or get a good codex but still loose a lot of your flavor. Space wolves players are probably attempting to stay perfectly still so gw wont notice them
Librarian Dreadnought being out is the last straw for me. Time to go all-in on my other chapter and lock my Libby in the display case forever more. And sell the rest of this garbage.

With jump Dc you get 1 eviscerator, one plasma, one power fist and one marine taking any mix of melee and pistol. This means you get the eviscerator, a marine with plasma and power fist, a marine with an inferno/plasma with a powerfist and then 2 bolt pistol chainswords
I saw this coming and bought two of the furioso dreads a few weeks ago. If you’re mad, don’t get rid of your Firstborn stuff. Play One Page Rules instead! Classic models welcome!
tbh I run almost pure legend marine lists for casual games with no issues , People often like seeing my whacky lists .. not the strongest for sure but sometimes it can catch players off guard with some of the wild tanks /dreads being durable
With the Power of Homebrew, we can keep em alive. We, the people, are the ones who decide what is and is not permitted in our games. The Dungeon master and the player decide what happens at the table, we the Players determine what happens in OUR tables!

i do think losing the librarian dread is the most significant here, the characters were kinda obvious that they are going since they seem to straighten out the armies quite a bit this edition (which is both good for some cases and bad for others )
GW literally Nuked all the fun and flavor of the game in 10th edition. It really is crazy honestly. They seem to axe all their most flavorful units. We now have nothing but ultra Marines painted different colors...
I don't think that's entirely true. Is it partially true? I think so. Divergent marines have a lot of stuff, still, and I think a lot of flavor comes from the detachments. Ultimately, it is part of the hobby to make the models what you want.
@@captaincorundum9788 it's all boring though. Monobuild and monoequipped squads. The "detachments" are a poor substitute for actual chapter rules, and absolutely shoehorn you into a fixed playstyle with only a couple of units from the book.

Both flavors of mreens got a full suite of strats, warlord traits and relics for each chapter/legion on top of all the generic options whereas everyone else only got generic option, a subfaction rule, a single warlord trait, relic and stratagem. Marines were allowed to have different playstyles supported, for everyone else it was pick the one subfaction that had a broken subfaction rule or allowed you to take the auto include named character.
Deathwatch player here, welcome to the party. We got killed in 9th when all weapons became free, which killed the interesting part of the kill teams for me.
I think the firstborn marine units will go long fangs, sky claws and probably the terminators will go to be just terminators . some of the HQ options will get gutted and some of the dreads .... be interesting to see what they primaris up though .. hope they redo the Thunderwolves for you guys and not just legend them ... I think the wulfen will be safe though maybe with a new kit and they maybe become the 3wound choice models outside of terminators like bladeguard/inner circle/ sang guard etc .. fingers crossed for the wolves though ...
@@icklemoo Thunderwolves and Wulfen are pretty much guaranteed to remain, they are the most iconic Space Wolves units. Bjorn might remain as the final firstborn dread because he is the current centerpiece model of the army and has been for too many years. The rest ? Welp, pretty much doomed to disappear considering what they culled with DA and BA
I guess there is the outside chance SW get an actual codex, they did mention during streams during the unveiling of 10th that divergent chapters would get full codexes rather than supplements, but that doesn't seem likely at all now though.

So we lost the Jump Chaplain last edition and the Jump Priest this edition... Yet we're a jump themed chapter? I honestly think GW is trolling at this point! I'd been underwhelmed by the refresh already as my Sanguine boys deserved better but losing Corbulo is devestating.
I kind of like the "Become Battleshocked for a bigger bonus" mechanic for these. There aren't too many cases where it's a drawback, although certain foes (Chaos Knights) will have a field day, finally able to use their army rule, but it's a choice with a payoff and (ostensibly) a cost, it ties in to one of the standard core rules of the game, and GW want Battleshock to be meaningful and are tying things to it, it could result in some more "right now what do I do?" decision-making.
Yay for Baal Preds, just assembled two of the damn things. Also, the option with giving in to red rage and becoming auto battleshocked is marrying a game mechanic to a piece of fluff that's... actually elegant? Nicely done GW!

Yeah I think the theory of “Codexes from Sisters + GSC onwards were written based on the meta from a year ago” holds for this one. Since IIRC, launch BA Index was in a bad, bad state. Hence SoS keeping +2S & +1A on the charge.
Nobody thought to maybe extend the Chaplain Death Company interaction a few inches or OC back or something because they still have to bring Chaplains so those Captains look iffy already.
The models that exist are amazing and the scaling is better, but I do miss the old school flavor I wish we could have both, but I would rather have a better canvas to build off of tbh Primaris take decorations really well
No, they provide rules for casual play It's called "Warhammer Legends" They're unsupported, which is odd, so people tend to pretend they don't exist If you play casually, go ham and play with what you want to
They remove the libby dred, the sweet prince of tomfoolery but keep ezekiel, the last remaining DA metal mini (and last metal space marine too). Certainly an interesting choice
😑 they took the eviscerator out of the assault squad kit and locked it to one unit within one faction, while simultaneously getting rid of actual units that gave that faction flavour. Luckily, I gave up trying to understand GW's choices long ago, as they are just mind-boggling

In all the years I've played 40k, Flesh Tearers were my only Space Marines army; even had a kitbashed Gabriel Seth that outlived his existence in the codex. Sold off the army, kept Gabriel Seth I'm glad I got out of 40k and switched to only playing Horus Heresy when I did. He was right to hate the Primaris.
I could see them getting rid of BA having access to heavy flamers, never made sense, even salamanders didn't have that. Inferno pistols too, didn't make sense for BA. But getting rid of thise others and adding death company captain? DA is supposed to be an incoherent group of berserkers, they used to have 4" squad coherency, they shouldnt have hierarchy, the chaplains can barely keep them together
The DC Captain must be fun during strategic meetings. 😂 They just need to hide all weapons and tie him to a chair before he kills everyone in the room.
Inferno pistols and flamers are close combat firearms. It’s a close combat chapter… what more needs to be said. Also inferno pistols are BAbexclusive so they aren’t going anywhere. Let salamanders have the heavy flamers though fine

I hope 11th edition allows some of these characters to come back. Like a Primaris Gabriel Seth, Tyberos, Pedro Kantor and so forth. Even primaris Minotaurs, Red Scorpions and so forth-loyalist chapters from Traitor Gene Seed is a really cool lore dynamic. Put them in an series of White Dwarf indexes, each issue of WD having a theme around a different successor until there are at least 18 successors (not including Black Templars). Would be cool to have a special character from a successor chapter linked to each loyalist chapter.
They got rid of my favorite character in 40k. Gabriel Seth was my first mini. I started my first army after reading trial by blood. Fuck GW. I'm done for a bit. Just cancelled my preorder.
The librarian dreadnought is what got me into 40k a couple years back as it was one of the units my friend lent me to play a game with. To see it go is a great blow I don't know what their thinking.
As someone who just recently got into Blood Angels, right before they announced the army set, I dont mind all of these changes. Im super excited to play with them and roll 50+ dice at a time and go super fast around the board. Heres hoping all the doom and gloom leads to me successfully getting the army set box

I play Deathwatch. I didn't think I could get more insulted, but GW managed it. Taking away core and unique faction units is terrible for everyone: what is next to get the chop? Thunderwolves? Wolf-naughts? At least Imperial Fists, Salamanders and Iron Hands didn't get any real support in order to lose very much, which isn't a consolation.

The whole of 10th edition has been a bit of an insult. Design purely around cost cutting to appease shareholders. Hence why everything feels poorly put together and lazy
Not going to like this release is really not good. The Librarian Dread and Gabriel Seth were unnecessary cuts and given they kept a death company data sheet with the bolt rifles was horrible. Honestly it’s bad enough Saguinary Guard and DC look lack luster. GW needs to go back and rethink their plans going forward.
This refresh is such a mixed bag. On one hand it’s a massive kick to the balls of everyone who bought the models that they are now vaulting. On the other hand the rules team was cooking with our detachments.
DA and BA got the opposite treatment. DA got the cool models and only lost one squad and 2 characters that never had models but got trash tier detachments and rules, BA got the cool rules but got absolutely fucked by their models and their lost units
Rules are temporary though. I’d put money down that GW already has an FAQ locked and loaded to nerf the BA codex even before release

How does a death company captain even make any sense, if they have fallen to the black rage they are mindless killing machines, how is a captain going to be able to keep their wits about them to direct them. Lemartes worked because while he fell to the black rage he was able to resist it to a degree. But a captain is just stupid.

I always thought it was just a Captain who had fallen to the Black Rage, not a Lieutenant with the Black Rage that was promoted lol. It makes sense as that is what Tycho the Lost was, he always kept his Captain Keyword.
I do understand though, it doesn't make sense that any leadership role should remain in the throws of the Black Rage, other than exceptions like Lemartes, who have the will to still control themselves with it.
If a captain falls to the black rage, then they become a death company captain. Simple.

I found that dude's I'm not friends with but I play games with absolutely follow gw religiously and they don't care how long it took me to paint the models or how much money I've spent. Although it is hit and miss because I know of one store where it's a no legends situation and I know of another where everyone plays what they have and what they want within reason.

Seems this edition is great for space marines. You loose a lot of your flavor models and get a fcking atrocious codex (like the dark angels) or get a good codex but still loose a lot of your flavor. Space wolves players are probably attempting to stay perfectly still so gw wont notice them

Same. Just remember that legends models are usable in every non-official tournament setting, and if your opponent complains about it you can find a new one.
With jump Dc you get 1 eviscerator, one plasma, one power fist and one marine taking any mix of melee and pistol.
This means you get the eviscerator, a marine with plasma and power fist, a marine with an inferno/plasma with a powerfist and then 2 bolt pistol chainswords
I saw this coming and bought two of the furioso dreads a few weeks ago. If you’re mad, don’t get rid of your Firstborn stuff. Play One Page Rules instead! Classic models welcome!
tbh I run almost pure legend marine lists for casual games with no issues , People often like seeing my whacky lists .. not the strongest for sure but sometimes it can catch players off guard with some of the wild tanks /dreads being durable
OPR is a basic ass tabletop game. If 10th edition is considered vanilla ice cream, then OPR is an unflavored snow cone.

i do think losing the librarian dread is the most significant here, the characters were kinda obvious that they are going since they seem to straighten out the armies quite a bit this edition (which is both good for some cases and bad for others )

GW literally Nuked all the fun and flavor of the game in 10th edition. It really is crazy honestly. They seem to axe all their most flavorful units. We now have nothing but ultra Marines painted different colors...

I don't think that's entirely true. Is it partially true? I think so. Divergent marines have a lot of stuff, still, and I think a lot of flavor comes from the detachments. Ultimately, it is part of the hobby to make the models what you want.
@@captaincorundum9788 it's all boring though. Monobuild and monoequipped squads. The "detachments" are a poor substitute for actual chapter rules, and absolutely shoehorn you into a fixed playstyle with only a couple of units from the book.

Both flavors of mreens got a full suite of strats, warlord traits and relics for each chapter/legion on top of all the generic options whereas everyone else only got generic option, a subfaction rule, a single warlord trait, relic and stratagem. Marines were allowed to have different playstyles supported, for everyone else it was pick the one subfaction that had a broken subfaction rule or allowed you to take the auto include named character.
Deathwatch player here, welcome to the party. We got killed in 9th when all weapons became free, which killed the interesting part of the kill teams for me.

I think the firstborn marine units will go long fangs, sky claws and probably the terminators will go to be just terminators . some of the HQ options will get gutted and some of the dreads .... be interesting to see what they primaris up though .. hope they redo the Thunderwolves for you guys and not just legend them ... I think the wulfen will be safe though maybe with a new kit and they maybe become the 3wound choice models outside of terminators like bladeguard/inner circle/ sang guard etc ..

Bjorn might remain as the final firstborn dread because he is the current centerpiece model of the army and has been for too many years. The rest ? Welp, pretty much doomed to disappear considering what they culled with DA and BA
I guess there is the outside chance SW get an actual codex, they did mention during streams during the unveiling of 10th that divergent chapters would get full codexes rather than supplements, but that doesn't seem likely at all now though.

So we lost the Jump Chaplain last edition and the Jump Priest this edition... Yet we're a jump themed chapter? I honestly think GW is trolling at this point!
I'd been underwhelmed by the refresh already as my Sanguine boys deserved better but losing Corbulo is devestating.
I kind of like the "Become Battleshocked for a bigger bonus" mechanic for these. There aren't too many cases where it's a drawback, although certain foes (Chaos Knights) will have a field day, finally able to use their army rule, but it's a choice with a payoff and (ostensibly) a cost, it ties in to one of the standard core rules of the game, and GW want Battleshock to be meaningful and are tying things to it, it could result in some more "right now what do I do?" decision-making.
Yay for Baal Preds, just assembled two of the damn things.
Also, the option with giving in to red rage and becoming auto battleshocked is marrying a game mechanic to a piece of fluff that's... actually elegant? Nicely done GW!

Yeah I think the theory of “Codexes from Sisters + GSC onwards were written based on the meta from a year ago” holds for this one. Since IIRC, launch BA Index was in a bad, bad state. Hence SoS keeping +2S & +1A on the charge.
Nobody thought to maybe extend the Chaplain Death Company interaction a few inches or OC back or something because they still have to bring Chaplains so those Captains look iffy already.
As always, GW take the best stuff and make worse versions of the good stuff they let you keep.

😑 they took the eviscerator out of the assault squad kit and locked it to one unit within one faction, while simultaneously getting rid of actual units that gave that faction flavour. Luckily, I gave up trying to understand GW's choices long ago, as they are just mind-boggling

In all the years I've played 40k, Flesh Tearers were my only Space Marines army; even had a kitbashed Gabriel Seth that outlived his existence in the codex. Sold off the army, kept Gabriel Seth I'm glad I got out of 40k and switched to only playing Horus Heresy when I did. He was right to hate the Primaris.

I could see them getting rid of BA having access to heavy flamers, never made sense, even salamanders didn't have that. Inferno pistols too, didn't make sense for BA. But getting rid of thise others and adding death company captain? DA is supposed to be an incoherent group of berserkers, they used to have 4" squad coherency, they shouldnt have hierarchy, the chaplains can barely keep them together

Inferno pistols and flamers are close combat firearms. It’s a close combat chapter… what more needs to be said. Also inferno pistols are BAbexclusive so they aren’t going anywhere. Let salamanders have the heavy flamers though fine

I hope 11th edition allows some of these characters to come back. Like a Primaris Gabriel Seth, Tyberos, Pedro Kantor and so forth.
Even primaris Minotaurs, Red Scorpions and so forth-loyalist chapters from Traitor Gene Seed is a really cool lore dynamic. Put them in an series of White Dwarf indexes, each issue of WD having a theme around a different successor until there are at least 18 successors (not including Black Templars). Would be cool to have a special character from a successor chapter linked to each loyalist chapter.
They got rid of my favorite character in 40k. Gabriel Seth was my first mini. I started my first army after reading trial by blood. Fuck GW. I'm done for a bit. Just cancelled my preorder.
The librarian dreadnought is what got me into 40k a couple years back as it was one of the units my friend lent me to play a game with. To see it go is a great blow I don't know what their thinking.

As someone who just recently got into Blood Angels, right before they announced the army set, I dont mind all of these changes. Im super excited to play with them and roll 50+ dice at a time and go super fast around the board. Heres hoping all the doom and gloom leads to me successfully getting the army set box
