  • Hey everyone, as we continue our sail down south from Canada, our next stop down the Hudson River is The Big Apple!
    Although we are on a tight budget while cruising, we managed to find the cheapest place to stay while in NYC for a week. This is definitely a city where you can do a lot of damage in a short period of time with all the food, entertainment and merely finding a place to dock your boat!
    We wanted to share our explorations during the week in this big amazing city. We had a fabulous time, had lots of food and fun while on the cheapest hook we could find!
    Where we stayed in Catskill, NY:
    Riverview Marine Services Inc.
    103 Main St, Catskill, NY 12414
    - dockage $1.50/ft per night
    -$250 mast stepping
    - showers
    - coin laundry available on site
    Where we stayed between Catskill and NYC:
    Croton Point Park
    - anchored, free!
    Where we stayed in NYC:
    Upper West Side of Manhattan
    W. 79th Street Boat Basin
    - $26/night for anchorage + dinghy dockage
    - shower
    - complimentary laundry machines
    - short walking distance to Central Park, tons of restaurants, Trader Joe's

    Watching these old videos it is nice to see New York before it turned into its current state.

    Great video. I really enjoyed it. You did mention you wanted to tune your rig properly. Can you show us what you did or can you let me know where you got your information. We have just bought a Hanse 575. It is in Curacao. We might see you sometime.

    You two are amazing and watching your videos gives me confidence that I definitely need approximately from Lake Ontario to Florida how long did it take (approximately) days or weeks to do that journey because I plan on doing the same trip next September

      Thanks and that’s so lovely to hear! It took us about 3 months to get to Fort Lauderdale. We did spend longer than anticipated in some anchorages, like a week in NYC, over a week in Carolina Beach, NC and others just waiting out the weather before we could get further south. Hope to see ya out there!

    We always stay at 79th street boat basin when we go up/down the Hudson. I heard the mooring balls were taken out for COVID this year.
    That marina in the Catskills is good and there is another right up the river called Hop O Nose that will store your mast if you go back up into the Erie Canal or other NY canals. Good deal.
    Did you have fun in Atlantic Highlands? We love that place. Maybe we'll see you guys when you are going South. We are still in the Chesapeake, leaving soon for points south.

    • @SailingJibsea
      @SailingJibsea  3 роки тому

      Yep the mooring balls were removed this year - we did not see any.
      That’s great to know about Hop O Nose, thanks!
      We did not do much at Atlantic Highlands, it looked nice but we arrived when it was rainy and just stayed the night so that we could leave early morning as the weather window was good for us to get around the delaware.
      We’ll be heading your way so maybe we’ll see you!

      It is starting to get late. It'll be getting a bit cold soon but at least you will be behind the rush.
      Don't dally too much. It is best to get into the ICW by halloween.
      We always take the dismal swamp. But it can be hard with deeper-draft sailboats.

      It took a us about two weeks to get from Erie Canal to NYC, we also stayed in catskill for a few days to step our mast during that time

    Love Steph's bike. How do you like it? Does it store easy?

    • @SailingJibsea
      @SailingJibsea  3 роки тому +1

      It’s pretty decent for a foldable! It’s got V brakes and a full aluminum frame so it shouldnt rust. It’s light and makes it super convenient to travel for groceries and getting around. It’s not bad for storing either!

    I wanted to anchor where you guys did but it appears that anchorage and marina are closed til 2025 based on navionics information … can anyone else verify. Also, what would be the next best option for anchoring in New York ?

    • @SailingJibsea
      @SailingJibsea  Рік тому

      Ah bummer. It was such a nice spot! We did hear there was an anchorage right out front of the Statue of Liberty, but we never checked that out but obviously that would be more difficult in getting ashore. We’ve also heard some anchor on the jersey side
