- In this new video we inaugurate a brand new Electronic Beats TV series entitled ‘Bygone Techno Powerhouses’. The feature takes a look at labels that have become somewhat forgotten today by most, yet had a formative influence on Techno and Electronic Music in Germany and across the globe.
First up in the series we take a look at New Zone, the imprint was recognised as one of the labels that shaped the Sound of Frankfurt at the end of the eighties and the beginning of the nineties through its iconic releases, which soon spread throughout the globe, going on to gain great popularity In countries such as Spain, Mexico, the USA and many more. The sound was somewhere between EBM and early techno or, as it was called in Germany at the time, Techno-House. Enjoy this historical short we’ve pieced together, which was partly created with the help of AI-generated images.
And like always, feedback is welcome.
Chapters:
00:00 Frankfurt
00:35 Start of New Zone / Talla 2XLC
01:26 New Zone Artists
02:47 End of New Zone
03:20 Rediscovered by DJs
Would much rather narration from you guys rather than AI. Even if it’s not perfect! I think Moxie does the narration for resident advisor and sounds lovely! Nice video guys
Ai sux
100%
I loved this label and its music. Thanks for the reminder. Also, kick the anemic robot voice.
@martindirkzimmer Robot voices and samples were big in some 80s and early 90s techno tracks 😉
The Future is now!
@@ElectronicBeatsTV Use a vocoder and I‘m in🤣
Note: The viewers on this channel are not yet ready for the future 😉
Edit: That was a joke for those who got it wrong.
Great label at the time. Here you can hear how strong the influence of the Frankfurt EBM scene was on German techno.
Thanks!
Really enjoyed this!
Nice to hear.
As an EBM-guy, something like this for Zoth-Ommog would be awesome - the short-form nature of it makes it easily sharable with friends @@ElectronicBeatsTV
i have nrealy every record of this label, what a great work they did back then. my biggest respect!
Nice
I thought to myself:"Finally a video about the most interesting part of techno history." Aaaaaand then you did such a bad job? :(
AI narrated? Why?
Probably so they can crank out more content quickly. The algorithm on here rewards quantity over quality.

NEW ZONE & ZYX RECORDS..., the Best... ;-)
Again a video mentioning me... Thanks and greetings
@OlafFinkbeiner - POD was a top notch label.
the iconic muzic research labels deserve a much much longer documentary! c'mon E.B.... suck me plasma! 😜
This is not a documentary but a short video to bring the label out of obscurity, because many people probably don't even know it.
I don’t really get the use of AI-generated city/club filler. Wouldnt actual images from that era of Frankfurt be more authentic? Or if the idea is to be cutting-edge, it’d feel more appropriate to showcase how local artists portrayed that at the time. Its a retrospective to a real scene after all….
@kaaamos
If there were pictures from the time we would have liked to use them, but there are not even photos of every artist, let alone the covers in good quality.
The whole thing is not supposed to be a documentary but a short video that gives a brief history of the label and makes people who don't know it curious.
It's unfortunate that the focus seems to be more on the AI voice rather than the of New Zone and its role in the history of EBM and Techno. This label is a great reminder of a point in electronic music history when these genres began to separate. EBM remained in the underground and got tied to the darkwave scene, because both were small so it was easier to organize club nights and events, while Techno gained mainstream attention through events like Love Parade and huge warehouse raves. It's cool to see a new generation of DJs mixing genres like Techno, EBM, darkwave or even Italo Disco, bringing back the spirit of the late 80s and early 90s.
Interesting sounding label but I have to echo others in saying having a human read a script is almost always preferable. There was very little breathing room too. But still, keep the videos and research coming!
hard pass on the AI, sorry, but can we keep a little emotion in all things music related.... we can cope
Absolutely. Anything creative for that matter…
Couldn't agree more. The AI narration is horrible... you go to all that bother making the video and writing the copy, but then take a short cut on the key delivery. This channel is far better than that

I'm a absolute fan of this show, but have to go with the others who said that the AI narration kills the vibe of the video.
Constructive feedback is always welcome 🙏
What about torsten fenslau? the most influential artist!
Has nothing to do with New Zone. Different story.
One of the most important german Techno/EBM labels gets a 3 minute "history of" AI video. How sad.
Warum nicht auf Deutsch 😮
Weil wir eine internationale Musikplattform sind und Deutsch international die wenigsten verstehen.
Please drop the AI voice and pay a human
I mean interesting video, but I had to stop after 2 minutes thanks to this annoying AI-generated voice.
@beeeneee Thank you for your feedback. We are currently testing and actually found this voice quite tolerable. But of course, AI still has its weaknesses, especially when it comes to intonation.
Be glad I didn't speak, then you'd be glad if it was AI 😄
Hi there
AI? Really??? It goes very well with this type of short video.
The robo-voice doesn’t even pronounce the proper nouns correctly, and you should know this. Lame.
@murishal We thought so too, but it looks like not everyone likes it
the ai is hard to understand. woukd be much better if there where pauses between words 😂 mumbles and butchers all the names, background track too loud. hard to hear if tallas label new zone was founded in 1989 not 99 (as mentioned) awful. how can u even get perlon records wrong. its such an iconic label. pÈrlon, not perón.
It's clear that not everyone likes the AI voice, but it's easy to understand. And Perlon is also pronounced correctly. Seems to be a different problem.
Pro Tip: You can slower the speed in UA-cam and can switch on subtitles too. Maybe this helps.
It isn't easy to understand, it is quite jarring.@@ElectronicBeatsTV
We have understood it. But it looks like the AI haters don't want to understand it either, but everyone else has no problem with it or just turns on the subtitles.
There are many videos here on the channel that were much harder to understand in my opinion and where nobody commented in that direction.
So it's probably more a general aversion to AI, which is perfectly okay. Not everyone can always like everything.
@@ElectronicBeatsTV Listen to the people, its difficult to understand the AI
I’m pretty sure that if you passed the voice thru a vocoder plug in everybody would have been like “holy moly you are geniuses!” 😂😂😂
Telekom can afford to pay for a human voiceover. This sounds awful. I had to skip this video.
