Welcome aboard. I have a playlist for Lake Tahoe shore fishing and over 600 videos across my other channel playlists featuring a variety of trout fishing styles and other general outdoor topics. For every lake on my backcountry fishing playlist I have a clip on my hiking playlist that shows what it takes to get there. I have a couple of clips on my trout fishing tips playlist detailing how I generally rig up for bait fishing for trout in reservoirs if you are interested in how I set up for Lake Tahoe. I have a bunch of clips on that playlist that give insight into what I do to catch fish. Glad to have you as a viewer.

I have been living in Reno for the past 15 months so I am catching up on content for stuff up around here. Basically, I have been hiking and fishing in the Sierra Nevada regularly for over 3 decades but I've only had a camera to catch any of it for the last 20 months or so. GREAT videos from Tahoe, Amani. I am there in the Summer in North Lake Tahoe, and sometimes West Shore. But have never fished Tahoe for trout in colder weather. My daughter and I would love to find a good trout spot someplace like this on a nice clear winter/spring day. So this spot is just a few miles south of Tahoe City off 89, the West Shore? By the way, highly recommend a visit to Sugar Pine State Park. Probably will be good fishing in cool weather off the point at Sugar Pine. Water there looks very similar to your spot, also just rocks on the bottom, moderately deep. I swim around there in the summer...no sign of large fish near shore...

Funny you should bring up Sugar Pine State Park. I was planning to call tomorrow to see if it was open! I just saw it on the map and it looks like it's worth a look. The spot in this clip will be crawling with people as soon as it warms up a little. If you and your daughter don't want to freeze, the fishing will probably be better late February into March. You want to get out there while it's still cold and there aren't tons of people and boats all over. Cave Rock state Park on the Nevada side has easy access and that area seems to have nice fish. Too much ice on the rocks now. Either state license is good on Lake Tahoe. Good luck!

I’m new to trout fishing and you’re one of the first people whom I’ve seen who uses 8lb main and 6lb for his leader. Have you found that there’s no difference with bite quantity when using a smaller pound test, like 2lb or 4lb?

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  3 роки тому +2

I typically use 6 lb test all the way through but I started using 8lb test for Lake Tahoe because there are so many large boulders at a lot of the spots. I catch plenty of fish on 6lb test. That's basically all of the fish I catch on my channel. As far as I am concerned, 6lb is great as my standard line for rivers, reservoirs, and alpine lakes. If you haven't seen it, I have a trout fishing tips playlist that might help you if you are new to fishing. Good luck.

It's going to be a zoo this time of year but Emerald Bay and the point out in front have been good to me. I go when the campgrounds aren't open and it's cold so I don't know what you could expect out there now. Maybe follow the rim trail out past the boat camp out of the bay and onto the main lake. All of the stuff I have up on the Nevada side is solid. It is my understanding that either state license is good on the lake but please confirm that for yourself before heading out. I don't feel comfortable passing on regulations. I have a bunch of clips up for the 'Lake on my lakes and reservoirs' playlist so I would say go to the deep water spots this time of year. How I rig up can be found on my 'trout fishing tips' playlist. I fish it with my general reservoir rig but I use 8'lb mono with a six pound leader to protect against getting sawed off on the boulders. I expect there to be a lot of activity on the lake and warmer water when you go so I recommend you get out there at the crack of dawn before the noise levels under water start peaking. Good luck.

This is off of HWY 89 a couple of miles after it begins to follow the lake but this time of year every inch of it will be covered by sunbathers and swimmers. Confirm all regulations for yourself but it is my understanding that either State license is good on the lake. Lake Tahoe is under the special regulation section of both State guides easily obtained online. You can only use 2 rods at once in California if you have the 2nd rod designation on your license though. Generally speaking, find a spot with public access and at least 20 feet of water and cast out. That's what I do. During the cold months where lows consistently hang below freezing, at least 10 feet of water seems to do fine. These desired depths are general of course. That's just what I look for.

That is an unnamed beach off the 89 about 3 miles from where the 89 starts following the shoreline. I basically drive around until I see an area with public access and give it a shot. Sugar Pine Park is on my radar. I have had luck everywhere I've tried so far. I've fished it 6 times and I have clips up for all of the spots so you can get an idea of where I've tried to fish. In one clip, I simply pulled off at a vista point, hiked down to the lake, and hit a nice trout. You can fish anywhere on the Lake with either a Nevada or California license so you can explore. Find a spot with public access and at least 10' of water and cast out. The side in Nevada where Cave Rock and Chimney beach were especially nice for numbers of fish and size. Chimney Beach was tough off the rocks but I think that's the first place I hit once the ice on the rocks is gone. The one thing that was common in every spot I've fished is that I needed to cast far out. I use small 5' rods but I upped my slip sinkers to 1/2 OZ to give me better range and bumped up my mono from 6lb to 8lb because when there are rocks, the big trout swim right into them! Shortened the leader on my full crawler as well for better distance. If you want to see exactly how I rig up, check out my clip "my general technique for deep water reservoir trout". Keep pounding it. The fish are out there. Good Luck.

I really like the area between Cave Rock State Park and Chimney Beach on the Nevada side. There are a lot of rocks to deal with in those spots so ice is a factor right now. This spot off the 89 is easy to fish. You can fish anywhere on the lake with either a Nevada or California fishing License from what I understand. I always recommend double checking regulations for yourself. For the 6 clips I have up, I have tried 5 different spots in completely different areas of the lake and have caught fish every time. My experience has shown me that if you can find a spot with public access and at least 10' of water you have a good shot. Be prepared to cast out far. I use half OZ slip sinkers to give me more range. Shorten my leaders a bit as well. If you want to see how I rig up, check out my clip "My general technique for deep water reservoir trout" if you haven't watched it already.

    • @wildernesswithamani1027

I'm not sure about Cutthroats. Lahontan Cutthroats are the original indigenous trout species in the lake but I don't think there are a lot of them in there if any. I really am not the one to answer that question. I have never heard of Dolly Varden Trout being in Lake Tahoe or the Sierra Nevada in general. I'm not sure about that one either.

Some people use lures and do Ok. That's what a few people have told me. On my lakes and reservoirs playlist, I have a clip I put up about a week ago from below Logan Shoals vista point where I show a close up of my powerbait and discuss the adjustments I make for Tahoe. My basic set up is on my clip "rigging up for reservoir trout' on my fishing tips playlist. I have multiple Lake Tahoe Clips if you think they might help. I fish a lot of spots. Good luck.

On my fishing tips playlist I have a clip "rigging up for reservoir trout" that shows in detail my basic set up. For Lake Tahoe specifically I up my slip sinker to 1/2 OZ and shorten my leaders as needed for farther casting capability. I have more Lake Tahoe content on my 'Lakes and reservoirs' playlist if you haven't seen it and are interested. The spot in this clip is probably mobbed with swimmers now but I have several other ideas in my clips. I always recommend verifying regulations for yourself but it is my understanding that either state license is good anywhere on the lake so all of the areas I feature are viable. My advice, find any spot with public access and at least 15 feet of water and get out there at the crack of dawn! Thanks for tuning in. Good luck if you go!

During the colder months I look for anything with at least 10 feet of water.

Yeah, if you see me fishing a lake on my lakes and reservoirs playlist it's when the lows are regularly below freezing and the lakes are cold. I have a bunch of Lake Tahoe Clips. I fish as long as the lakes are cold from the melted snow in the Spring and then I start hitting the backcountry. You can find how I usually rig up for this type of fishing in a couple of clips on my fishing tips playlist if you haven't seen them and are interested. My clip "rigging up for reservoir trout" should do it. Thanks for tuning in.

I've been really hungry fishing before where expired Cliff Bars would be a welcomed luxury! Especially when I do something really stupid like forget my lunch in the fridge! Doesn't happen often but it has happened! I think I'm maxed out on the three cooking clips I have up. Lemon pepper trout, grilling trout on a fire, and baking trout. I'm no chef to say the least! If I were to get a recipe somewhere else just to make a clip, it won't be authentic. I'm not looking to push that on my viewers. What you see on this channel is simply the real me, bumbling and stumbling at times! Full disclosure, I did the baking trout clip to make a crappy day of fishing, where I got just one small trout, a little more interesting! This is not the channel for really good trout recipes. If you keep watching, there will be a lot more fishing and hiking to be sure. Thanks for tuning in.

Both regulation guides are available online and Tahoe is listed in the special regulation charts in both. For the California fish and wildlife guide it's under the license section. For Lake Tahoe, once it gets cold, find at least 10-15' of water with public access and give it a shot. Maybe it will start working in that respect later but I don't count on it. I mostly fish alone. Sometimes I fish with my cousin or old friends but out of the hundreds of videos across my channel playlists almost all of them are just me. It keeps planning simple with my busy schedule with work. I'm at a point now where so many viewers have asked me to go fishing I don't want to randomly pick and choose because it wouldn't be fair. First of all, thanks for keeping the language clean because it allows me to keep your comments up. I try to keep things family friendly. I'm not too cheap to buy food! I can afford food! It's an ongoing joke where I poke fun at myself for going fishing instead of taking care of things like shopping for the week. I keep and eat fish every winter just like millions of Americans legally do. I hold a valid license to fish in both Nevada and California and I follow the Law. If you have a reason, other than your opinion, to think I'm doing something wrong then report it to the department of Fish and Wildlife and have them review my channel. My guess, many of them would like my channel because I do practice quite a bit of catch and release and discuss special regulations when it applies so people who learn about those waters through my channel will know. I feel sorry for the Charter boats that take people out on the lake for money to catch and keep fish all year round If you are waiting on the docks when they pull in.
We are going to have to agree to disagree. I can't adhere to the unofficial rules projected on myself by those who are the type to believe everyone should live and believe as they do. Thanks for watching and keeping the language clean. It's clear you are not into my act.

It’s a choice for you to make if u wanna kill them. It’s like being able to kill a wild steelhead in Oregon....just because your allowed to doesn’t mean you should. The other thing is you are blowing up all the spots with your videos. This definitely leads to more crowded fishing. I’ve seen it happen in Alaska California Florida and Cape Cod.
