There were actually prototypes of the warden that looked way more like John. It's colored white, had black spots, gnarly teeth and blood. However I still think it was a coincidence. The warden and John both use popular horror tropes, and the warden has plenty of mechanics unique to it
I'd sure hope a paid team of experienced programmers would be able to make a better mob than one guy who barely knew how to code made for fun 10 years ago
The footage with same animations also features graphics updated in 1.14. It's not the original version of the mod, and probably just a remake with warden''s animations for the video.

Well, Mojang devs have stated (in 15yr anniversary interviews) that they develop features around their past experiences with the game to make Minecraft a more enjoyable experience. To say that the devs took some inspiration from goofy mods from their teen-hood wouldn't be too far fetched.

I think dead airs song is also based off of the creepypasta due to Cole not being able to sleep goes outside and discovers jhon in the video game then runs away from the monstrosity and survived but then meets jhon again and also cause jhon is able to sing and talk (unless it’s a funny coincidence and my comment is all wonky)

John reminds me of a old UA-cam video of some guy reviewing some weird zombie mod in minecraft and one of the zombies looked like john, don't know who made it or what the mod was but all the zombies as I remember them were all a very pale color with a creepy face on them, think some even had unique models too
i played this mod some few years ago and the three John versions are really simple, the mini one is faster and keeps running, the normal one walks slow first but then starts running towards you after a while, and the huge one is just slow. but yeah they don't have anything that special.

It’s just not fair to the people who actually matter, the players/consumer.
Ask any artist how they'd feel if someone traced your artwork, claimed it as their own because they used their own hand and their own pencils to do the tracing, and ended up becoming so popular for their trace of your artwork that nobody even knows who you are. Yeah I'd throw a "hissy fit" too and honestly anyone would.

Oh my god this is why the warden always felt so familiar yet new to me, I could never figure out why that was and just chalked it up to me playing the update with the deep dark on the first day, but now i remember popularmmos playing this mod and the animations are so similar its actually crazy.

For a brief moment, I actually thought that this was one of the Warden’s original designs, until I found out it was an old MC mod. I honestly don’t really think Mojang got any inspiration from this mod while making the Warden, but I also don’t believe it’s a coincidence. I believe that while making the mob itself, it was part of the Caves and Cliffs update, and they wanted a horror-themed mob, and thus they did just that. I also never heard about this mod throughout my life, and I only learned about it like last month. Despite that they have similar traits, I don’t believe this mod was an inspiration nor a coincidence.
I always thought the mouth on the warden looked like a sleeping mask which made me think that it had a peice of skin like fused to its face covering its eyes

And now there's been another port of the John mod to the newer versions called "John Reborn", made by Aerellion (I prob butchered the name) and a few others in his team Which add the 3 original Johns, the materials for the sword, and a bit of new content, like new John attack patterns, an item to locate nearby Johns, a brand new sword inspired by Terraria, and a table with a book which as of now it still has no use
would be cool to see this in one of the "beta texture packs" people seem to like, and maybe changing other newer features to look like their older modded counterparts
