Had to make me a PBJ on wheat toast after that! I've never cleaned a motor "out" of the bay unless I was going to rebuild it. A trick I learned for cleaning them in the bay is to warm up the engine a little bit and then use about 3 cans of Armour all tire foam. Really really soak it andlet it sit 15 minutes. I don't use a power washer, just air and they come out really nice. You can watch everything turn brown and run off! I noticed the Harbor freight jack stands. Have you checked the numbers to see if those are the ones that just drop? I had 4 for almost 10 years and thank God I never had a problem. They gave me a store refund and I bought a bunch of consumables and then bought some bad ass stands from Home Depot. They work the same but there is a safety pin that will never let it fall.
Just as a recommendation, when you prep the outside for raptor liner, use a nylon abrasive cup brush. A lot of professional companies use them and makes life easier for prepping the paint. There’s a bunch of UA-cam videos showing people using that as well.
Never done a 3.4 swap before but did do a lot of research on it and if I remember you need the body lift to get the hood to close because of the additional height of the 3.4 engine. Hope this helps. Love the channel.
I did the same swap to my FirsGen 4runner. Toyonlyswaps makes plug and play wiring harness’s that act as a bridge between factory wiring harness and dash plugs.
These videos are the shit. Thanks to you I was able to SaS my 88 near mint 1st gen 4Runner without any problems. Always wanted to do a 3.4 swap . But luckily this 3.0 slow is still heathy (For now).
I am doing this exact swap right now. I didn't have the teardown myself. I'm not sure where all the hoses & vacuum lines from the 3.4 connect to the 3.0 truck. I'm also unsure of the wiring. Do you have any video on this or have any advice for someone who has never attempted a build like this?
Thanks. I'll check it out. I gotta say, I love your videos. Very well done your truck is the same color as mine minus the raptor lining. It's like watching someone else building my truck. Lol.
Thanks again for steering me towards that Facebook group. It should come in helpful. Are there any other sources of reference that you could recommend? I am a total layman, & can use all the help I can get & am unsure where to look.
Nice I picked up a cherry all original 2 owner manual 89 xtra cab with a 3.slow with high miles. Only thing I don't like about it is the engine I'm worried about it because all the horror stories about headgaskets. But I also have a 3rd gen 4runner for parts. So I think ima attempt the 5vz 3.4 swap. I searched for a good 22re truck or 95.5-03 tacoma an coudnt find one and I'm kinda glad because I like the pickups better anyway.
Thanks crazy about the steering shaft/tranny mount/all the other things youve had to fix (alternator wired wrong) some people (the guy you bought it from) should NOT work on cars/trucks 🤦🏻♂️
hi mate you put the clutch plate in the wrong way. They sometimes actually hit the flywheel bolts in some vehicles if they are put in the way you fitted it.
It's amazing that a truck that seems to be in ok condition has so many issues once you get trying to get it right. I'm sure that you work harder to make things 100%, but it makes one wonder how much crap is out there posing as a rebuilt truck.
Sorry but I disagree with put the clutch disc in arse about-face, doing that often the disc rubs on the flywheel or the bolts in the crank not letting it disengage, the clutch cover has clearance for the plate springs, etc.
@@austinniemela I blew my 4.0 at around 49k miles. Mostly my fault. Put a catch can in that leaked causing a bad vacuum leak. Ended up spinning the rod bearing on the number 4 piston. Replaced with another 4.0 with less miles and haven’t had an issue since.
When you pull parts at the junk yard, it would be cool to see that process!
Your videos are the first I ever seen that are this comprehensive on this 3.4L motor. Thanks for the detailed video work. Very helpful.
I can't believe that BREAD trick worked as well as it did.
i prefer irish spring bar soap. My mamma always told me to never waste food
I learned more from this channel than I did in 4 years of high school

Something about power washing old engines is so satisfying 😌

Haha nothing like a pbj after a successful pilot bearing pull 👌👌
Nice to see the engine back in. I really like the engine bay with the color raptor liner!!!
Thanks I’m digging it!
been using the "bread trick" for years . we always use whole wheat bread .much healthier crank !
Hahahaha 😂😂 Dave’s is a wholesome bread tho 🍞
Your a Machine, Niemela! 🤖
Love that you are showing us the tricks of the trade!🙌
Content Value = 💯

Thanks for the tip! I just bought one, ill give it a shot!
You are becoming my favorite build channel. Nice work.
Thank you!!
The bread thing has to be the best hack ever. I have seen lots of guys go to hell and back trying to remove that bearing.
I wonder who the first person was who melded lunch with engine work. I really like these videos thanks
Great job, looks great and nice to see some doing it right
“What you want to use is Dave’s killer bread” 😂😂 love your content!
Planing to do a similar pick up, so very useful

Thanks! Yeah most people do 1-1.5” lift for clearance!
Looks like the previous owner was a huge hack 😂
Looking very nice Sir. 2 thumbs up great work!
Great build keep it up.
Thanks!
Can’t wait to see that color on the truck.... looking 🔥🔥🔥
Me too!! Thanks!
You look young but it seems like you have a whole lot of knowledge about this stuff good shit !!
Thanks! Might surprise you, i'm an old geezer haha
Looks good...that trick is crazy..who would of thought. The body lift is crazy on the truck but prolly makes is easier when installing the motor.
Yes I am dropping the body down 👍
Cool project!
NOW TURBOCHARGE IT!!!
This channel and deboss garage are now my two favourite channels. Keep up the great work. Respect from canada
Thank you!! 👍👍
Just subbed...nice!...I am picking up a cherry '88 XtraCab 4X4 5spd with the 22RE engine on Saturday...can't wait...Toyota4L!!
👍👍👍
starting to take shape, going to be awesome!
looking good. thanks for the bread trick, never heard of that one.
Truck looks really good! You should lift it 2 inches ! Keep the videos coming
You could use oven cleaner next time u clean an engine on the engine bay works alot better than any degresser 🙏
great video big shout out from australia
I’d probably would’ve done the valve cover gaskets man while you had it out, they’re pretty common to leak as well
Wait! What? Bread?
Nice!
Works great!!
Ya get rid of the body lift. As usual great job.
I just found your channel and I've been binge watching your videos great work man.
Thanks man👍👍

Awesome good to hear!! And thank you👍
I also use wet newspaper to get the pilot bearing out. Holds together better than bread
That’s exactly what I was thinking as a substitute for bread 😂
Bread it’s also use for soldering joints water pipes brass copper keeps the water from flowing back then it turns into mush and then to nothing
Nice! Never heard of that use!
good call, i've used that several times.
Good video, love the content, good feel overall from the video and editing too, keep the series going
Thank you!!!

Great work Austin always enjoy your channel thanks mate from your Aussie friends
Toyota did make a two piece intermediate shaft. I have a 3” body lift on my rig and all I needed to do was lengthen the shaft for the amount of lift.
8:34 that’s how you make a PB&J sandwich 🤣
😂😂
Awesome job bro. I look forward to your videos. Keep up the hard work
Thanks!!
Love this channel man keep it going !

Would be cool to watch you turbo it
All I could think of during the grease and bread bearing removal was...Peanut Butter Jelly time Peanut butter Jelly time!

I've used AVE's bread trick to remove so many bearings, it's good enough for the girls I go out with

Love it...

Was the trans ever out? Wondering how bad it is pulling engine an trans together an dropping in together.
I'm thinking about doing exactly what you did on the red 91 as in the SAS and tdi swap on my 98 frontier
That bread trick is good. And there still enough left for half a sandwich
Haha works great!
Good job
When you think you saw everything.. bread who would have thunk it 😂

hi mate you put the clutch plate in the wrong way. They sometimes actually hit the flywheel bolts in some vehicles if they are put in the way you fitted it.
This is how the OEM toyota manual states to install the disc!!
Might wait to change the timing belt. Your supposed to every 100k if i can remember currently.
It was done in 2018! Can’t be 100k yet haha it sat for a year!
Tengo mucha curiosidad, la transmisión automática del 22re 90 puede funcionar también con ese nuevo motor?
👍
Just need some peanut butter already got the jam there lol
Ah yeah haha 👌👌
That bearing removal was erotic!
Good video
Isn’t the body lifted so that the hood will clear the top of the 3.4? That’s why I lifted mine because I plan on 3.4 swapping. Shirt fit great btw!
Glad you like the shirt!! Yes but 3" is way too much!!
@@austinniemela I put a two inch body lift on mine I hope it’s enough 😬 is a two inch body lift kinda what your shooting for?

What are the dowels for? Just for proper alignment?
Yes keeping the trans, clutch and engine all aligned and happy!
Great video. Subbed! What camera do you film/ edit with?
Sony a7ii
Do you have a vacuum line diagram that you used? I can’t find one anywhere
For evap?
For everything on the 3.4l I’m not sure exactly

Oh there’s lots!! Not many people can fix a car correctly it seems
Hey man, what degreaser do you use?
Simple green hd!
Is that break booster out of a 3rd gen runner
Came out of a 95 4runner!
5vz Fe is the best
use newspaper for the pilot bearing hehe
wet the newspaper before you put in inside
Every time that I've seen a friction plate put in like that, the springs got stuck on the flywheel bolts.
Wierd! This is what the manual even states!
You have kids so next time steal their Play-Doh to get the bearing out.
Slice of bread is cheaper haha
трансмисия одинаковые с дизелем?
OMG I thought only mexicans do those kind of weird tricks, they say we can fix everything with a wire, thanks for sharing I have to fix one 3.4L soon
i was reading on ih8mud that brake fluid eats the liner. Anyone know if thats just folklore or truth?
I'm fairly certain brake fluid will eat paint so i don't see why it wouldn't affect the liner. austin had a towel protecting it though.
Break fluid eats about everything!!
@@austinniemela i was somehow under the impression that rhinoliner was an epoxy.

No worries the hub have tons of room
I’ll follow Toyota’s recommendations over an aftermarket company!! The manual states the hub faces the flywheel!
I’m surprised the truck drove with all these issues you are fixing
Haha yeah it barely drove!
Зачем 🍞? можно было мылом хозяйственным
Bread or toilet paper
Get rid of all of that body lift. Stop chasing gremlins with every where it should be.
A/C???
This one doesn’t have ac
🇵🇬🇵🇬,,
just throw that engine in a skip. one of toyotas worst emgines
huh? the 5vz is one of the best v6 engines toyota has done. the 3.0 3vz was the garbage engine that was originally in that truck.
