How to Crochet WITH Your Ends 😉 Time Saving Crochet Hack!

- Опубліковано 7 жов 2019
- Hate weaving in your ends? Me to! In this video I show you how to crochet WITH your tails for a secure finish; not crochet over, crochet WITH. No needle? No problem 😅
This method is great if you have lots of colour changes on a blanket or crochet project and will work with any stitch.
Bare in mind, the bulkier the yarn, the more likely it is to show so this works best with mid to light weight yarns (the yarn shown in the video is classed as Aran weight / Worsted weight)
I hope this handy crochet tip / hack helps! x

How much yarn will I need? This is a very tricky question to answer as there are so many variables! How much yarn you need will depend on which yarn you choose, the thickness of that yarn, your tension and how large you want your finished project to be. I suggest making a small sample first so you can gauge how much yarn you'll need. If making a crochet square, you can weigh your finished square to work out how much yarn it used!
How many squares do I need for a blanket? That all depends on the size of the square you are making and how big you want your finished blanket to be! I always advise making one square first then measuring the size of it. From there you can work out how many squares you will need to get the blanket size you want 😀
Do you have the written pattern? Yes! I have written patterns to accompany my video tutorials on my website here: www.hookedbyrobin.com The written pattern is generally released a week or so after the video tutorial to ensure there are no errors in the video itself and to make amendments in the written version if any are found. All the written patterns are FREE to access on my website
How can I print the pattern from your website? Do you have downloadable PDF's? Not at this time no. This may change in the future but for now, I only provide the written pattern directly on my website.
Can you remake this video so it is slower? If the video speed is too fast, you can slow it down! 😀 See this video on exactly how: • How to Adjust the Spee...
Why do you use American stitch terminology? I learnt using USA stitch terms, long before I even knew there was a difference between UK & US terminology! American terms are my "first language" so to speak. If you need a conversion chart, I have one here! www.hookedbyrobin.com/crochet...

I’ve crocheted for 50 years and have never seen this! Genius! Definitely a game changer for me. 💜
OMG! Where has this been my whole crochet life?!?! Thank you so much!
Wow! I just knew there HAD to be a better way to deal with colour changes. I’ve begun avoiding projects with lots of colours. Thank you so much!
You are very welcome! I always avoid weaving in ends if I can!
Me too!!! I cheat and use self striping and variegated yarns. 😁
This is absolutely BRILLIANT!!!! Anyone who knows me knows I LOVE to crochet, but I HATE, HATE, HATE weaving in the ends. I'm not only going to try this method, but I will be spreading the word about this method and this video in particular to my crochet friends. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
Great tutorial. I use a similar method but crochet the whole stitch with the tail. It does add bulk so I will try your half stitch method. Great tip, thanks again.
Super! Only crocheting over the end as normal isn't secure enough for me, love it!
awesome idea. Can you tell me how to do it with a SC because a SC doesnt have 2 Yarn Overs like a double crochet does. Thank you very much.
Me to
I've been crocheting for almost 30 years and have never seen this! Genius!
I am very skeptical of almost all techniques on youtube since I've been crocheting for 50 years and have made every mistake possible, but I must say THIS IS BRILLIANT!!! This eliminates the "bulk" issue of leaving long ends. Thank you.
OMG!!! I'm definitely trying this! I really hated having to weave in my ends when I did a lot of color changes. Probably why I avoided doing multi-colored blankets but not anymore!!! This is a game changer!! Thank you!! And thank you for the scrunchie video, I've made several and plan on making more for Christmas!! ❤
Me, too!
I do exactly the same thing 🤗🤗
can this be used in a granny square
I have been crocheting for well over 50 years and you have taught me so many wonderful techniques! Thank you thank you! You are amazing.
I am crocheting an Afghan with wide stripes. Discovered your video when I was half finished, with many color change ends to have to weave in. I had a hard time trying to do this method with the chain 1, skip 1, single crochet pattern. After many tries I finally found a way to do it. I chained 1 with my working strand and used your method for the single crochets. Voila! No more ends to weave in on the remaining half of my afghan. I have never seen such an ingenious method before. Thank you!
You’re so welcome Karen, I’m pleased it helps. Enjoy making your Afghan.🥰🤗 x
I’ve just seen your crocheting over ends technique. What a game changer! I just wish I’d seen it before the 10 blankets I’ve crocheted. Truly amazing 👏🏼👏🏼
😮 OMG!!! I’ve been waiting and hoping for this tip! I don’t change colors or weaving in the ends. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! 🎉
I am so happy it helps Viki, it definitely makes life easier! 😃🧶
Where has this been all my life!!!
So easy, so effective! Why nobody ever pointes this out! Your the best, thanks a lot.
I'm new at crocheting, and have been wondering about changing yarn as well as how to hide the yarn end in such a way that it won't come loose. This looks like a great method - thank you for this tutorial! 🙂😍
It works so well, I am glad you found this video Cathy! 😃 How are you finding crochet so far?
... that's... frakking... GENIUS!!! 😱 I knew about the method where you crochet the ENTIRE stitch with both your tail and working yarn, but that just makes a hugely obvious bulky spot IMO. But this... this is absolutely BRILLIANT! 🖤
You are a genius 😍😍😍😍😍😍
Now with no foundation chains or weaving ends I am in a happier world 😍😍😍😍😍😍
Thank you so much for the life changing technique 😍😍😍😍😍😍
@Robin I am your admirer for years now. I love the clarity of your tutorials and the neat end products. I never saw you work casually to produce any rough, untidy, flimsy product!!. I leant a lot from you and still am learning. I shall send you some swatches that I copied from you. Stay blessed 🙂 ❤❤
Thank you so much Mary!😃🧶
I despise weaving the ends in .....LOVE your simple solution. Brilliant!!
WHERE has this BEEN all my life?!?!! 😍😍😍😍 Robin, you love, are THE BOMB! Thank you SOO much for this!
This is brilliant! Thanks so much for sharing it! I'll definitely try it. I'd like to see how you do it with single crochet.
Me too!! I’m doing a temperature blanket and would help tremendously!!
YAAAAAAAASSSSAAAAAAHHHHH. I'm sorry, but I'm trying to do a Plaid Panties project (Lol), and I had soooo much trouble weaving in the ends. Thank you for this video. So smartly done. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Oh gosh, this was such a game changer, especially since most of my projects have multiple colors. Thank you so much for sharing this technique!
You’re welcome, I am glad it helps.😃
Fabulous, absolutely divine way to camoflauge and use your ends! I love it! Bring on more tips and tricks to help your co-crocheters!!
Oh My Gosh!! That is wonderful!! I will definitely be doing this from now on. Every time I see something like this, I always think, "why didn't I think of that". So simple, yet so effective. Thank you so much!
Robin, this is brilliant! Don't know why I never thought of this but it is going to change my life. Thank you ❤
This is genius! I always hate how thick it is if you constantly use the tail, but using and dropping solves that! Thank you so much ❤
I've never seen this before but I'm going to use this method from now on. FABULOUS! Thank you
Finally the best tip I’ve seen so far.
Ohh thank you so much Robin! This has come just in the knick of time for me as I'm joining my squares on my neon patchwork blanket! This is going to save me soo much time... A technique i look forward to using from now on 👏
What a wonderful idea!! I have been crocheting over 55 years & have never seen this! I will certainly be using this method of crocheting in my ends, from now on!!Thank you soooooo much!! God Bless!💜🤗
Donna Mocko
Cool! I’ve also been crocheting for over 55 years.
@@Blessed-2-b-a-Hembree Crocheting is my therapy, Tammy. Has been since I was a pre-teen. Happy Thanksgiving, Tammy.
Donna Mocko
Happy Thanksgiving to you as well.
@@Blessed-2-b-a-Hembree Thank you.
This is just fabulous!!! I have so many unfinished blankets because I hate weaving in the ends!!! This is a game changer and I thank you 😘
This is a great way to work in your ends thanks for the tutorial.
This is brilliant and one of those “why didn’t I think of that” times? I’m so glad 😀 someone did and shared it cause I really hate 😖weaving in ends..
Thanks Robin. Im in process of a multi color blanket. So now im looking forward to the next color change lol.
That’s exactly what I’m doing now because I’m making a mosaic throw blanket with a double border
A great tip, Robin.....why did I not know this? Definitely going to add this to my repetoire. It actually halves the weaving in, and I'm all for that, Thank you xx
Thanks Robin great tip I hate those pesky ends.
GREAT!!!!!!! SUPER DUPER ! marvelous!
That's a fantastic tip! Will give that a whirl! Thanks for mentioning that simply crocheting over the tail isn't a good idea. The first few years I started I didn't know that. I had heard it was a great way to avoid the dreaded weaving in of ends. Then an afghan I made as a gift unraveled in the washing machine a couple years after I made it. I was mordified! Now I am so careful about making sure my ends are secure. I want to make sure nobody else relives what happened to me.
I taught myself to crochet 50 years ago and never learned this method. I appreciate your technique and will use it from now on. Thank you so much for your video.
This is a game changer! Wish I knew this 43 years ago. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for sharing this Robin. Using this technique i can enjoy changing colours in my blankets.
I have done this for awhile now.
It makes me more cautious to not make mistakes. 😉
R U KIDDING 🎉 😃can’t believe I haven’t seen this sooner fantastic idea 😃I have done that but with only with one stitch can’t believe I didn’t think to do it with more stitches
I've crocheted with tail for years but not as neatly as this method... thank you!
This is a great technique. One thing I have been doing recently (similarly) is leaving a long tail when I start a colour - 10cm) and using a tapestry technique to carry the yarn under my stitches but alternating between the tail and the working yarn to form my stitches until the tail is gone. Same idea-the tail becomes part of the stitch work and is woven in very securely.
I've always crocheted both tails completely through. I like your way of not crocheting both threads on the last loop, it lessens the bulk. I will do it your way from now on. Thanks!
Love love love this, why have I not seen this method before? Thank you I can’t wait to try this now ❤️😘
That’s COOL 😎! Great for striped afghans that incorporate color changes.
Definitely Kim!😃🧶
I love it. I will try it on the afghan I am finish up now. But I will continue to crochet over the other color too, so all I will have to do is weave back the other way. Thank you so much for showing us.
Brilliant. I’ve never seen this technique before, but definitely going to use it!
I've been doing that occasionally but yours looks much easier than mine. Thank you for posting this!
Wow! Nice to see someone else also figured this out. It’s simple and secure. I’ve been doing it for a while now. I am lazy and I agree one bright side of being lazy is also being innovative 😂
Wow I like that i do my something like that but I like your better thank you for sharing this video
Never seen technique before. Began using this now. Thank you for sharing!
WOW!!! FABULOUS HACK!!! I'm going to start doing this ALL the time. Thanks for sharing. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this video.
I’m glad it helps Angela!😃🧶
This is awesome! Definitely going to start using this technique. Hate weaving tails. This technique will definitely cut down on that. Thanks Robin, your the best!
Oh my gosh, I've been doing it wrong for 50 years! Thanks for that excellent tip!
Nothing is ever wrong with how someone crochets or weaves in ends! Xx
Never saw this method before. It's great. Definitely will use it 👍
Oh my! This is so clever! Where has this been my whole life? Thank you! Thank you!
Definitely going to try this. Hate sewing in ends. Thanks Robin 👍
OMGOMGOMG....Game. Changer!!!❤️
It is a WONDERFUL tip!!! It is something I will DEFINITELY do now!!! Thank you!!!🧶🧶🧶😊
Fabulous! I’ve always done under the new stitches as I crochet, but this is even better! More secure no doubt! Thanks for showing it! 💕
Wow, I wish I would have known this from the beginning. Thank you for showing this work to us.
That is genius and it solves a problem I was having! I was crocheting with my tail BUT I was using it for the entire stitch and using it for at least 6 stitches or so and it would be very thick stitches indeed! With your method I can still crochet it in and make it more secure without it looking like my yarn gained 50 pounds in a hurry!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I can’t wait to try it tonight on my mandala blanket I am working on!!
Thanks for the tip! I hate color changing because of the tails I have to weave but this will make it much easier!!!:)
That is REALLY a GREAT idea, Robin! I'm definitely going to try it.
I love this way of doing ends thank you for the great idea I hate ends until now loved this way of doing it and so easy to
I love your tips! They are always great for making your project more finished, more secure, easier to work. Thank you so much!

Never seen this before. Wonderfull. If I can remember as I am crocheting, I will defiantly use it. LOL
love, love, love it. Thanks so much. Very helpful. Just hate weaving ends in so try not to make anything with a lot of tails. Will tackle those projects now. thanks again.
I love this tutorial Robin. I most definitely will be using this method. Thank you
I’m TOTALLY doing this from now on!!!!!! Thank you sooooooo much!!!!💕💕💕💕
I was sent here by Sigoni Macaroni!!! I am so glad she put this in her LCE email! This is a super way to weave in ends; especially when there are a lot of different color changes or skein changes! I absolutely am going to be making a multi color blankie now just because of this technique!! Thank you so much for making this tutorial and thank you to Sigoni for suggesting it!
Never heard of this before. I'm going to give it a try. Thanks!

It really is, definitely give it a go!😃🧶
😮😮😮😮 I have not seen this before but, I will most definitely use it going forward! Thank you so much for sharing!! Great tip. I do not crochet over my ends either. They work themselves loose all the time! Thanks again!
Thank you so much for this video tutorial. I searched for one, because I was trying to learn this method from a foto tutorial and I couldn’t understand how it worked. Now I know 🤓
and I will surely use it on my projects.
