Jesus dies every day on street corners around every block all around the world. The point of this incredibly tender, beautiful song? The Lamb of God is everywhere. We walk passed him/her every day in this world where Compassion is a dirty word. I'm not even a Christian and I got that!
A beautiful song by John. If I understand correctly , In my opinion, John has portrayed Jesus as one of us and, accordingly, he did act humanely. Me, you, us, we are that character into current life. The song is not a joke but a window into the reality of every day. We meditate people, we meditate.
Ive been a Prine fan since I was 12 or 13. Im 52 now, learned most all his songs on guitar. He is my biggest inspiration. Considering I am a huge Led Zep, PinkFloyd, Rush....He is profound at writing songs, the best ever. It feels almost like blasphemy for anyone to insult him. All singer/songwriters look up to him, country, rock, there are no lines to draw for genius.
Charlie bought some popcorn, Billy bought a car, someone almost bought the farm but didn't go that far. a real rebel without a cause. John you are the best. oh yeah Jesus too.... Love
John, I got it way back when you and Steve were playing together. You are america, you are us and you are John Prine. the greatest song writer in our time... Love ya John..... Dennis
Love this man, 😍 I took my mom to a concert at the Alabama Theater a couple of decades ago. I had never heard of him, but I was an instant fan. They sure don't make 'em like John anymore...
John Prine is also one of the greatest poets of our time. Every song of his is a work of art. Honest to God, the only person I have ever written a fan letter to is John Prine.
Funny -- only person I've ever written a fan letter to is John Prine - in fact I wrote 2 over the course of 40+ years! Been listening ot John since about 1978. He's helped me through some rough years with his songs.
He was living with other masters of life and working with (as we all do) death and everything in between xo... I love this dedication ...Jesus started everything xo
Listened to JP and especially this one all Easter weekend this year. Finally got me to MOURNING E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G that suddenly had shown up missing... including ... him. (AND This version intro is what, God, made us LOVE John Prine so dearly, always.) But just now, listening again, because the Easter-appropriate: "They're gonna kill me, Mama" just gained new traction... we just watched a man get murdered last week, ... crying out those words. Shops being looted and burned now in protest down the street here. Hey! Vodka-and-Gingerale for Everybody!!!
i heard this and picture show, then went and bought every one of his cds!!! he's incredible!!! he makes me laugh and cry!!there isn't one song of his that i don't like!! just ordered the mailman delivers!! thank god for john prine!!!
I love this song so much. Does anyone else think that his voice was much better suited for this song during the (slightly) later years than it would have been, say, in the 70's?
Adam Caddell RighT???? Listening to this one today ... Good Friday 2020. Woke up this morning, in shock all over again and just heartbroken about EVERYthing ... and remembering that line “They’re gonna kill me, Momma” - so i kind of HAD to pull this one up, ... and the irony is not lost on a nevertheless-weeping-again me that when somebody (not naming any names here) gives EVERYthing they have, just gives ALL their heart and soul while they were here, ... well, the rest of us sure did get lucky. Plus. oh my word! His intro here! (the fishing trip weekend with the waitress, that EVERYbody in Nashville knew about...). 😍🤣😍🤣❤️❤️❤️
@@stephaniejefferson6566 I don't think I have ever had a song make me laugh as hard, cry, and make the hair on the back of my neck rise like this one. Closest thing to it for me is "The Man Who Couldn't Cry," by Johnny Cash.
ahh baby! at 5:17 was I the only one that heard " all my wine is blood, wasn't it suppose ro be all his blood was wine? jus aking , I love this man AND Iris McDerment duets!
@sharonellis Really where is that written? How do you know for certain that is what he did? So if he followed the Jewish traditions then he would have gotten married way before he was in his 30's and had a family. Some say he did and that Mary Magdalene was his wife. Of course most Christians will violently deny this.
@sharonellis If you know anything about geniuses, then you know that Jesus was already a master carpenter at the age of 12, and you also know that he was master of the Torah and other texts by this time. Don't we even have Biblical confirmation of this? Not to mention that when at age 12 when he said he had to be "about his father's business" it's pretty clear that he wasn't talking about working a hammer and chisel in Joseph's shop. I say he hit the road.
@baldur1377 It is not vanity to profess to have a soul; it is vanity to hold oneself above other life for having one. It is also vanity, however, to hold one's beliefs superior to those of others, as you appear to have done by your disparaging comments about Christianity. My personal belief is that there is a concept of individuated ensoulment and a concept of shared ensoulment. We are individuated souls; the animals and plants--most of them--are expressions of a single earth soul.
@sharonellis I disagree with your statement that he would have made miracles if he had traveled, as if it were automatic. He could have been studying other religions besides Judaism. Furthermore, if he had created miracles in, say, India or China, I don't believe that they would have perforce been documented in the scripture.
I liked the beginning, he does have better songs, i just dont prefer this one as much. and for zigsinclair.....didnt I see you in a movie about 1975, and your head was turning completely around like a owl, and you threw up some kind of green stuff??????? You Have Issues!!! How long were you a catholic school boy???? just asking..
@baldur1377 hate the sin, love the sinner, that's my Christianity. No one knows if animals will be in heaven, but the bible does say that one day the lion will eat alongside the lamb. Don't put too much faith in men either for they are just men. I choose to focus on Christ, and what he said, and the way he lived. good luck in your path though.
I don't get it. You have a pretty eclectic channel. One would think you would enjoy the song for what it is. Maybe you could create or upload your own content instead of criticizing others'. I love this song. Always have from the first time I heard it.
I gave this video a thumbs down because either somebody added a laff track or the audience is too stupid to understand it's a serious and great song. RIP Mr Prine. You will be missed.
@sharonellis Suit yourself. I make no claim to scriptural backing of my view, but also none of the scriptures that you quote represent a refutation of the point of view that he hit the road. My position is that you don't know any more than I do, and we all decide our views based on what appeals to us. I take exception to the post to which I responded because you seemed to feel that you "knew" that you were "right", and that therefore everyone disagreeing with you is "wrong.

Genius! Thanks JP. ❤❤
As a theology grad, I like this.. Too much dogma and not enough faith... Be real and go with the flow.. John, great memories..
I love this song. One of my favorite Prine tunes. I used to listen to it on a crummy recorded cassette in my bedroom when I was a kid.

Please pull thru this covid-19 shit John. The world still needs you. I still need you.
Phenomenal Prine. Love Him. Peace John. Love on Ya, LAS
Prine in his prime. Such effortless phrasing. Like conversation.
An American treasure, one of our best.

Tribute to John Prine by songwriter Dennis Callahan
Awesome - enjoy it for what it is.
Dylan, Cohen, Prine, Bono (on occasion); some people have a way with words...
Great!
Hate country music, loved this. Brilliant song.
superb... great post...
If you don't like John Prine there's a very good chance you're probably headed to hell, and you most definitely need Jesus in your life.

yeah but what's there is choice.
@loganyc You do really have to be kidding - ??? Jeff Foxworthy???
@MrJojogun Perhaps you will examine New Age...the first disorganized religion. Well, with the possible exception of Hinduism. :)
@loganyc I see the resemblance
Maybe a stupid question, what does he mean when he says “opened up three way package for George Jones”?
Country artists used to go on tour with each other...probably 3 artists on the Bill.
He was the opening act for George Jones and another act.
artistic license
Did John often chew gum while on stage? I’ve seen him look like he does in many videos of him.
Bob Dylan said there is a hormonica in his mouth.
lin li Funny.
This is a brilliant song - if you can't enjoy it - you're really in a poor way, mate - I suggest you go find Jesus or something.

Is that Jeff Foxworthy?
It’s not that nobody KNEW. It’s just that it wasn’t significantly different than any other Jewish kid of his day so it wasn’t worth writing about.

Big brother maybe. Dylan covered Prine songs. Lol
