    I met Lyle checking into a hotel on a business trip many years ago. He was ahead of me. I am a big fan and had a big smile. He turned around introduced himself and thanked me for listening to his music. A very kind soul.

      Class act. You never want to invade their privacy but a small nod is usually appreciated. I did this with Chris Smithers in Berkeley CA in a restaurant. I simply nodded and said quietly “great show”!!

    Lyle is such an underrated and brilliant Songwriter. I’ve seen him several times. One of the benefits of seeing the large band is that I’m looking at a bunch of legends. The bass player is Lee Sklar and the drummer is Russ Kunkel. These guys are studio cats crafted of solid gold, they have played on half the hit records ever recorded. And lovett ain’t not so bad himself.
    The fact that they keep coming back to play with Lyle says a whole lot about Lyle and his talent.

    This is more like a poem than a song for me. I discovered it when I was shopping for a boat and someone had paired this song with a demostration video. I never have owned a pony, but I have a few goats and now a beutiful row boat for a small lake. It expresses how i feel aboult growing old and looking back to childhood. A wonderful feeling slipping between water and sky.

    I've seen Lyle 5 or 6 times, mostly with his large band, and once in a Barnes & Noble in downtown Chicago after Step Inside This House had just been released. For anyone that ever wondered how he caught Julia Roberts, let me tell you his charisma in that intimate B&N setting had 100% of all those downtown Chicago gals' attention. He is a songwriter par excellence, humble, funny as heck, understated and a class act.

    • @lauraheller8193
      @lauraheller8193 Рік тому +7

      So funny. I too, was at the Barnes & Noble performance and definitely one of those "downtown Chicago gals" in thrall. I've seen him many times in concert, but that was special. He was in town and opening for Sting, who snuck into the room while Lyle played, quietly stood next to me and simply nodded along, appreciating the performance.

    My very large pony would ride in the back of the pickup truck. My uncle taught him so he wouldn't need to hook up a trailer to get somewhere quick. He was a sheriff in Texas in the early 60's. After he was retired as the sheriff's mount, he was given to me. Ol' Stewmeat was the best cowpony a young girl could ever have. He had the sweetest long lope. It was like sitting in a rocking chair when we galloped around the pastures.

    I tell people all the time that, if Lyle Lovett is playing within 100 miles of where you live, you won't regret the drive. I've seen him with the large band and with a group of about 7 musicians and never been anything but thrilled at the show. Fun and fantastic.

    I've seen Lyle Lovett several times; each show has been terrific. But the first time was in Indianapolis, on the night he married Julia. He was on fire-it was an amazing concert and I kept wondering who the woman on stage was, singing in the background. The next day it was all over the news that they had married the day before. There was so much love and joy in his voice that night-even more than normal. See him in concert if you ever have the opportunity-he is a musical phenomenon.

    Go to a Lyle Lovett and his Large Band concert -- they're as good and tight as it's possible for a concert to be. I first saw him when he opened for Bonnie Raitt, back when she used to do her winter solo acoustic tours, many years ago. My indie music friends were lucky to be in the DC area and got to listen to WHFS, a station dedicated to indie music, so we heard Lyle Lovett and countless others who were ignored by the "big" radio stations. When he married Julia Roberts we reacted differently than most people, "What does he want with that tootsie"????
    Seriously, see him live. You'll never forget it.

    • @gailremp8389
      @gailremp8389 3 роки тому

      I have to laugh I think I didn't sleep the night that I heard that he and Julia Roberts got married. It wasn't that she was a tootsie. It was just what did he have about him that would make her think he was the one for her? Not in a negative way. But in a funny way. But they are still friends after all these years. Most people are inherently good underneath. But sometimes you have to scratch the surface to find that part. Peace and blessings

But I'd give my car in a heartbeat to have seen them all in concert! Thanks for sharing a great clip Brother. Peace!

      @ImNotMad ButUR ... it was a play on words (showing my age) when I was a kid....there used to be a group of funny little jokes based on pseudo book titles and authors exmpl; "Rusty Bed Springs" written by I.P. Freely.
      your comment "knocked down to rusty metal and "bad" springs," reminded me of it. You didn't intend it but I massaged it anyway, we'll just chalk it up to being stir crazy.Hope your migraine goes away soon, it took mine 25yrs to move out. 😁

    One of my favorite songs from whenever . There's the beautiful irony and last laughs when Lyle sings about the Masked Man and Tonto .
    When I was a kid (I'm now almost 80) I used to faithfully watch the Lone Ranger ( the Masked Man ) on tv. He was always set up to be the big hero and Tonto ( foolish in Sanish - little did we know , but racism to the highest degree ) was the gofer , the Lone Ranger's errand boy . However, even as a kid , I used to be much more impressed with the character of Tonto ( actor Jay Silverheels ) because he dressed so cool , he was so athletic , he always got things done and was never out there looking for credit ( like the Big Orange Baboon ) . So, I get a special kick out of this song when Tonto tells his "boss" to kiss his ass , 'cause he's got a boat and headin' off to sea . Justice came late , but it was served . GL, Sr
