    I had my thumbs over my rapist's eyes, and couldn't bring myself to gouge them out. This was after he'd bashed me, threw me down a hill and was pining me down choking me. I've been haunted by my inability to act in that moment for 20 years. This is first time I've heard of violence scalability. It makes so much sense.

    Oh let me add that I've been raped, I was date raped by a co worker and when my company found out about it they fired me but they found some other excuse for it so that I couldn't sue them and then they had me escorted off of the property, it was humiliating especially since everyone already knew what happened and it was a very large car dealership so LOTS of employees. But I did go forward with charges and it took a year until we got to the end. I had already moved on with my life, I had moved 4 hours away from the city that the trial was being held in and the lawyer called me at like midnight and said that court was going to be at 8 in the morning. I told him that there was no way that I could be there, I didn't have a car, was sharing with someone else. He said that either the guy would take the plea deal or he would be sentenced so that was the 2 choices that I had to face for not showing up even though he explained the situation to the judge. The guy ended up NOT taking the plea and he was extradited back to his home country of Iran I believe and he's permanently banned from the US. He also had to spend some time in jail as well as pay some fines. I was not awarded any restitution but I think that I would have been if I would have shown up to court. My NOW EX knew how important that this court date was to me but (this is why he's an ex) he kept insisting that I just let it go. I couldn't just let it go after I had been fighting tooth and nail for nearly a year and then a year comes and he suddenly wants me to just give up? What? I think the rape guy didn't get a harsh enough punishment, there was DNA evidence and had I been lucid enough to make it to the hospital on time there would have been drug evidence too because he kept asking me if I wanted a Xanax and I kept saying no. YET every time that I needed a refill on my drink he INSISTED on going to the bar and getting it himself, it's obvious, he was drugging me. I didn't see it then, but I see it now. My ex didn't give 2 shits and let this entire court case go to hell, I'm actually mad now. I think about all of the times that I spent going to court and wasting my effort on this turd only to let my ex just screw the entire case. OMG I'm sorry that I'm rambling but this is a huge deal to me and it should be a HUGE learning lesson to anyone out there. Just please, learn from my mistakes. This guy was supposed to be my FRIEND, we were out and supposed to be having a good time and he violated me in the worst way. I'll never be the same.

      The reporters in the UK change whatever they want to appeal to more people and get a better story.
      I was interviewed as a witness to a robbery with a tractor....I told them I did not go outside because I thought there was a fight and that was common. But they twisted it with "oh I was afraid to go outside because I feared for my life". I was like huh? When did I say that?

    • @AmisTheos
      @AmisTheos 9 років тому +2

      madmike1 yeah a perfect example was that my friend was in a large production play and he's also a teacher in the Isle of Wight so when talking about his day-job and life with the reporters he said he worked with children and some special needs kids so obviously he became a teacher of children with special needs even though that probably accounts for less than 5% of his job.

    One thing you didn't mention -
    If you happen to try violent and surprising "self-offense" against an attacker and it doesn't work, it will turn out really, really bad. Not only will you end up on the bottom being pounded with no clue on how to escape, but any witnesses who saw the fight will likely think you started it and testify accordingly in the resulting court case.
    Heck, even if it does work and the attacker runs off screaming to the nearest hospital there's a good chance you'll grab an assault charge.
    An important part of any true self-defense system is letting bystanders know that YOU are defending yourself and are not the aggressor. Jiu Jitsu does this beautifully.

    This was really only a matter of time before a Jiu Jitsu savvy woman would choke out a would be rapist. Jiu Jitsu is definitely not the answer for every situation, let no one dupe you into thinking that it is, no single martial art is. However, Jiu Jitsu is really super ideal especially for women as a self defense art against a potential male aggressor or sexual predator.

    • @boomerisadog3899
      @boomerisadog3899 9 років тому

      iTzYoMaster I think mma based training is the best self defense strategy, for males or females. To focus solely on one martial art or the other limits your options and what benefit is their to that? Don't get me wrong if you could only take one bjj is probably the best, but in this day and age mma gyms are just as prevalent bjj. So why would you train bjj when you could train mma unless you have some sort of disability that prevents you from doing high impact training.

    • @kanguessokang9918
      @kanguessokang9918 9 років тому +1

      Boomerisadog First of all, you can't train "MMA". You can learn a variety of different martial arts, Boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling and BJJ and blend them together so that it would allow you to succeed in a Mixed Martial Arts bout, setting or environment.
      If you're talking about STREET SELF DEFENSE, MMA as we see on television does not fully address the potential dangers you may encounter in a street situation for a few reasons: One, modern MMA has rules that dictate what's allowed and what's not allowed and most gyms train their athletes according to these rules. No eye gouging, groin shots, strikes to the back of the head, no biting, no knees to the head of a downed opponent, no soccer kicks or head stomps, a la Pride FC style, there are weight classes, time limit, refs and judges. Now think about all these rules, a street situation or fight does not go by these rules. Street self defense training has to be STREET SPECIFIC, meaning, it has to address and focus on how an individual may defend against the UNKNOWN.
      If you train at a modern MMA gym and think you're FULLY prepared, keyword here being "Fully", for any street situation you are fooling yourself big time.

    The woman mention she was being hit in the face by the man's free arm during the triangle choke. Is there a more efficient way to block that strike besides trying to grab or parry the punch?

    • @nathanmandrell905
      @nathanmandrell905 9 років тому

      ***** Yes there is. While Strokerman is right, honestly the punches can't do much and they'll be out soon anyways, you can still better avoid damage. Rather than holding behind the head and pulling down, you can hug your legs, putting each hand or the crook of your elbow on the outside of your knees, then squeezing your arms together. It helps the triangle squeeze and apply additional pressure to the choke, and your elbows are out more, creating a frame that blocks strikes or the opponent desperately grabbing your face. There are videos of it here on youtube

    The "violence scalability factor" is a similar ethic to that taught in aikido. Neutralise the attack, as violence builds violence. Meaning, a violent counter attack will encourage the attacker to retaliate back stronger than the counter attack - therefore the stronger attacker wins.

    I'm a woman and I just started working a job where I have to drive downtown to a very risky part of town which is normally okay during the day but at night when I get off of work I have to walk sometimes 6 or 7 blocks to my car and it's lit in some areas and dark in others. It gives me the creeps for sure. We are required to carry an 8 inch crescent wrench to work because I do stage setups and tear downs. At night I hook my wrench to my key ring which is on a lanyard with a carabiner. I get a good grip in my right hand and everything else is in my left. I watch and check everything left and right, back and forth and behind me until I get to my car. But if anyone was to get near me I'm ready to drop my bags and hit them as hard as I can with that wrench. I plan to get some pepper spray for my left pocket but just haven't yet, will do on the next paycheck. I'm very thankful for what you guys have taught me, it's invaluable and I can't thank you enough.

Predators often attack many people. I thought at least I could add the incident to police records to help out the next girl he tries to rape.

    I love this video because of how important it is. I train in Krav Maga. I love the standing, and the combative training, and everything that it is. BUT, my krav maga school has a jujitsu class, and teaches ground fighting, like buck trap and roll, and how to sweep from guard, because they have done what you said, and accepted the ground as a place you can very often end up. they even have a class specifically for jujitsu, where I found out just how much I love jujitsu. The art is evolving, and spreading to several different arts to be added to the curriculum, and I think that is amazing.

    The material starting at about the 8 minute mark could be extremely powerful for convincing more women to learn Jiu-Jitsu, but I suspect most people who aren't already Jiu-Jitsu converts will stop watching before that point. If you squeeze the key concepts and position/technique demonstrations into a "3 reasons Jiu-Jitsu is ideal for women" video under 5 minutes, you stand a much better chance of reaching many more women than you will reach with this 28 minute version.

    As a brazillian martial art practitioner who has done a few years of Jiu-Jitsu (right now I'm doing Aikido) I can say It's a very effective form of self defense, specially for women. Even though I identify more with Aikido I believe that all martial arts have its value and strength and I have a great admiration for Jiu Jitsu practitioners (I really look up to Helio Gracie). Maybe some day I can conciliate practice both martial arts, hahaha...

    Everyone, especially women, should be capable of defending themselves at ALL ranges:
    1. Medium weapons range: Firearm (S&W has some great "Lady" revolvers)
    2. Close weapons range: Knife (FMA has simple, effective knife techniques)
    3. Striking range
    4. Clinching range
    5. Grappling range
    A creep jumps out of the dark and says, "I'm going to rape you!" If the woman has her CCW and is carrying, she can end the confrontation just by stepping back and brandishing her fiream. The creep attacks, she double-taps and its over.
    The creep jumps out of the dark and grabs her from behind, she draws her knife, twists her body to the side and stabs him in the liver. He lets go, she steps back and can decide whether to kill him or she can create run to safety (with a lacerated liver, he's not going to chase her).
    Why ignore the first two fighting ranges?

    • @afeagzajeaff
      @afeagzajeaff 9 років тому +1

      +BloodofPatriots From what I've read having a knife is probably more dangerous than not having one in a fight, I don't know more than what I've been told though so that's to take with a grain of salt;
      I agree obviously that in a best case scenario women should be experts in all fields of martial arts, but that's not possible, the question is which of the above 5 possibilities is most important, from what he said in the video, grappling makes the most sense to me.

    • @BloodofPatriots

      BloodofPatriots BloodofPatriots 1) Not all countries allow you to brandish a firearm
      2) Rapists don’t usually announce their intent before they attack
      3) If you have a weapon someone can take it away and use it against you, especially if you are smaller and are not FULLY COMMITTED to using it
      4) Larger opponents restrain hands and wrists and attempt to control smaller opponents without waiting for you to get your weapon out of your pocket or purse

    As much as women might be uncomfortable rolling with a guy, I really think they need to. Suck it up and get out there. What do you think it's going to happen when there's a real life struggle? 9 times out of 10 for a female, it's going to be a MALE attacker! You need to be comfortable on the ground with a guy too!!

    • @mlfink1983
      @mlfink1983 9 років тому +1

      wheels85 Yes, things are going to get accidentally "touched" by the guy when you're rolling with a guy, but you should know the difference between unintentional and intentional.

      MuliBoy As someone who has no reason to know at all, I'm pretty sure it's recommended that pregnant women continue to exert themselves at a level comparable to before they got knocked up. Obviously, she shouldn't go all out, but I'm sure she's just fine.

    Well, you sure opened my eyes! I had written BJJ off as a good choice for my young daughter's self defense training, but I see why I was wrong now. What age do you recommended young girls begin training? My daughter is 5 years old and quite big for her age; 3'9" & 51 lbs. Of course I realize maturity is subjective and a large part of whether a child is "ready" to begin training.

      Gracie bully proof is incredible. I teach my son at home through the dvds and his confidence has shot through the roof. His school work is better his attitude is better and attention to detail has increased a ton. It's also great because it has made my son and I very close because we roll everyday. it's amazing when we both watch rener and ryron do a move that he has never seen and pick it up right away because Gracies attention to detail is amazing and he learns from them like they are in my house.

    Why would you have to practice gouging someone's eyes???

    • @XKenny77
      @XKenny77 3 роки тому

      It's not as easy as it looks. Also, unless you're in mount then if you can reach their eyes, they can reach yours. Joe Son at UFC 2 showed us that techniques like nut shots don't even work that well. If you try these extreme techniques on someone who already wants to hurt you, there's a very strong chance you don't do the damage you expect but you make the attacker mad and that makes him more determined to seriously fuck you up.

    what is the escape move when the attacker is put into triangle and proceeds to dig a 4" knife into your upper calf, pulling down towards the knee, severing a major artery. Or, what is the escape when the attacker proceeds to burry the knife into your eye socket puncturing your brain?wait a minute......ive got the answer...don't be alone as a woman, know your surroundings, and be armed with more than your own body.

    I totally agree when Rener mentioned not to put all your eggs in one basket (the other martial arts that are based on strikes. HOWEVER, this also applies to JiuJitsu. For a more complete self-defense toolbox, you have to learn more than just JiuJitsu. (But JiuJitsu should be one of the tools in the toolbox. Although it is an important one, it should not be the only one.)
