As a life long martial artist (47 years worth) including many years teaching, I can attest that this is fabulous advice. And when they announced a large scale plan to give free self defense seminars, it brought tears to my eyes. Way to go!

@@eyesnapples6167 What do you gain from announcing your heartlessness to the world? Is it a source of pride for you?
People giving away free self defense seminars costs them not just their time, but also money in that they have to provide for premises for the event that cost them money, if not directly then through opportunity cost. This generosity of spirit, especially with something so many need, is heartwarming.

It's not heartbreaking to know you have to protect your children... if you think that's heartbreaking then you're already "losing the battle" so to speak. It's heartbreaking to LOSE your child, for sure. But, to know you have to protect them??? No, that's not heartbreaking. That's just the laws of life itself. I'm saying this to you because, as stated in this video, learn to protect yourself first before you can protect others. This includes your wimpy perspective on what should and shouldn't be happening to people. Toughen up. You don't have time for heartbreak, heartbreak will make you freeze up and not make the right choices BEFORE something terrible happens and a REAL reason for heartbreak happens to you or your child.

This has happened in my own neighborhood a few months back. A guy grabbed a little girl at the park. Gratefully she fought the guy off and ran as fast as she could. She was terrified but she’s safe. I hate that we have to worry about this but I’m glad are ways to protect ourselves and our children.

Don't gotta worry and live out of fear. Just treat it with the same practicality as teaching to not run with scissors. Sure we teach safety but we aren't living in constant panic about knives and scissors in the home. Maybe you didn't mean that, but there are mother's out there who wanna live in denial that these things happen :(

I also sat my son down and told him, desciptively, what could happen to him if he DID trust and go with someone....and that 9 times out of 10 that horrible person would be someone you know...baseball coach, soccer coach, school teacher. And it happened one day that he WAS put in that situation. He was bik riding to the corner store with his buddy when a minivan stopped and asked the boys to help him find his dog. His friend was going to go. I wasnt sure at the time if I did the right thing scaring my son with the truth but now? I'm so glad I did. SO GLAD!

What is being described here is much closer to a domestic violence scenario than to a child abduction one. Not that it changes the general message of learning self defense. Situational awareness however is the best technique to use against abduction or say pickpockets. And consider both often work in teams.
I suggest you talk with the LAPD on best practices regarding such incidents.

Good stuff. My only concern of teaching my child to go get help from a stranger or putting my child down to face the threat one on one is kidnappers often kid nap in pairs. They create a distraction and then take the child away you are distracted. If someone trys to take my child and I put them down, the second kidnapper comes and takes the child while I deal with the 1st kidnapper. And once the 2nd kid napper has my child the 1st one runs away from the enconter.

Great video! I would argue that a kick to the face is necessary to slow down their ability to get up and chase - I am not a fast runner and I need every advantage I can get!

If you can't carry or feel uncomfortable with a gun or knife (Get training if you can carry/Good SD ammo). Then Carry OC spray, a Tactical Flashlight (can be used as an impact weapon) and train. You should always be armed in some fashion.

Putting a child down risks if there are several opponents : ( So dependant on circumstances.

In dangerous situations some collateral damage is bound to happen. Safety is important yes but onced you are engaged its on. Bruised to broken bodies and the rest my friend is damage control when its all over.A wild animal attacks you, you will have a psychological response to such a situation. Would you rather go down without a fight?

    • @dramaticreaper

@@johnchege4247 I understand your point but what I meant was for the Gracies to reply if there are any detail on that takedown that Isn't obvious to the eye. Heck I nearly knocked my self out doing a double leg wrong my opponent just hugged my head to his side as we were going down and I slammed my head hard, then only did I know the small details that one would not usually notice

But what if you put your child down and there are two attackers? Criminals in my country are a bit competitive to other countries criminals. They're always trying to be better so they tend to attack in groups.

I taught my kid to yell and look for a uniformed security guard/cop, or uniformed and badged staff member of a shop or business especially if getting lost in a or near a mall or in emergency if anything happens to me. Otherwise to rather run towards a mom with kids or a family instead of a single "stranger" if possible. Also to SCREAM, kick, scratch, bite, run in case of abduction any attempt.

What if you go for the legs and the unsuspected kidnapper lets go of the child in the process of falling down? That might cause an injury to the child.

What if he hurts the child while falling down? I mean if he puts the child to ground first and the child's head hit to the ground?

  • @ichigobankai2343

I tend to look deeper into WHY are these abductions taking place? We have a over population of abandoned children which can be adopted legally so there must be a reason why someone would risk going to prison for kidnapping a little child.

I disagree, I think the most important rule is to be aware of your surroundings and avoid areas that you're isolated in, and the second most important rule is to conceal carry, training for all this time then having someone stab you in the heart will get you no where, self defense is only important if you assume the kidnapper doesn't have some sort of deadly weapon

7:06 this situation is so bogus. Gracies assumes that the kidnapper isnt going to pull a gun or knive and be idle! Yes, I would did for my child any day. That doesnt mean I dont want to be reunited again with my child. If the assailant is down , f*&^%n RUN! Evade! Get help! Scream! But dont f’ing sit there and try to BJJ the assialant into submission.

In this example we can see, that when woman manages takedown on abdutor, there is pretty high chance of child hitting ground with his head.
