    i've been asking around here in youtube if you can attach the trans wire and front wire together permanently. i guess this is the answer when you bypass your chime. my doorbell chime was removed and the 2 wires which is the trans wire and front wire is hanging on the wall separately. i am installing a 2nd generation ring doorbell and i am not doing it because i dont know if i can put the 2 wires together. i guess this video shows that you can put the the 2 wires together. thanks good video..

    Great install video. Which two wires did you splice together? The power wire and the wire going to the doorbell?
    When I attach the wires from the Pro Power pack to the transformer post and the front post on the old chime doorbell (like the directions indicate), the old school chime doorbell chimes non-stop. Thoughts?

    Can I use the existing wires on analog doorbell to power the ring doorbell and remove the old analog chime and patch the wall up and use plug in ring Chime? I basically want it hard wired to just stay powered. Thanks

    Hi brother, thank you for a very informative video. Please advise, what if I want to keep the same chime sound, do I still have to connect the jumper cable in the chime box? I have purchased the same Ring doorbell as the one you used in your video. But my package did not contain the chime in it.

      With this particular model you will not be able to use to existing chime and have to get a ring chime. However, I believe they have a model that runs on a battery but uses your existing chime.

    if you only have the ring doorbell, not the chime do you still have to use the jumper? can i just skip that?

    We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.

    I have a doorbell outside but the chime box was removed and the wall was patched over. Can I install the wired ring door bell for power but use the ring chime. I can’t do any of that wire work with the chime box, idk how the wires are configured behind the wall where the chime box was.

    Can you remove your old chime and cover the wires with a wall plate (after they're in a wire nut)?

    • @DuctTapeMechanic
      @DuctTapeMechanic  2 роки тому +1

      Yes you can. By combining the wires (via a wire nut) you are effectively bypassing the old chime. So removing it is no problem.

    I just bought the same ring but without the chime. Does that mean I won't hear when they ring the bell?
    Also my box says 16v 10va

    • @DuctTapeMechanic
      @DuctTapeMechanic  2 роки тому

      It looks like you will have to buy the chime otherwise you will just get notifications on your phone.

    I did not buy the chime with my wired ringdoorbell, but followed all steps to installed. My mechanical chime inside the house does not ring. Its only ring on the phone. Did I do something wrong??

    • @DuctTapeMechanic
      @DuctTapeMechanic  Рік тому +2

      Your mechanical chime will not ring because it is being bypassed. You did not do anything wrong. I am not sure if they have one that works with your mechanical chime. With this one you will have to buy chime

    I have a Hampton Wired Doorbell Chime Model: WL-106-A. My Ring door bell will only chime once & now it’s not even chiming @ all. So it’s only ringing on my iPhones. I have one wire wired to Front & one to Trans. Am I connecting something wrong? I hope you can help me out.

      You'll have to head to the Ring website to see the full list of compatible Hampton Wired Doorbell Chimes. It seems like most of them are supported, but I don't see your model on the list.

      Additionally, the Ring doorbell shown in this video (Model # B08H5V7RSH) does NOT support wired doorbell chimes. Again, head to the Ring website to check the full list of devices. (I can't post the link for you since the OP never approved the comments or deleted them)

    Isn't that "Jumper cable" not a resistor also as you will be affectively shorting the transformer

    • @DuctTapeMechanic
      @DuctTapeMechanic  Рік тому +1

      Jumper cable is not a resistor. You are just shorting out the old chime so the low voltage ac current can be found at the door bell to power the Nest

    I thought the transformer is needed to drop voltage because you will be sending 120v to the doorbell and fry it ….. any thoughts??

    • @DuctTapeMechanic
      @DuctTapeMechanic  Рік тому

      You right. However in the instructions you are bypassing the old doorbell not the transformer. So you are still getting low voltage AC to the doorbell

  • @trojansky2348
    @trojansky2348 Рік тому +2

    What happens if you DONT bypass the existing wire chime????

    • @DuctTapeMechanic
      @DuctTapeMechanic  Рік тому +1

      Then you won't get power from the transformer to the ring door bell

    The doorbell chime can work through Alexa, so skip the chime and just buy the Ring doorbell and use an Echo. If you need to buy an Echo, the difference in price between Ring doorbell + chime and Ring doorbell + Echo is about $5.

      Valid point

    • @Brad.W
      @Brad.W Рік тому

      Yeah i didn't care to use my echo because i keep it on Volume level 3 so Alexa wouldn't scream every time she spoke using it as the chime was also very quiet could barely hear it when the doorbell was triggered but we expect our doorbell chme to be loud so we can hear it in the whole house with the echo device it chimed at whatever volume the echo was set at.

    Far as my mounting went for mine im paranoid is heck I used 3 inch security wood screws that have removable head inserts no way you're getting them back out even with the special tool unless you also have the head inserts.

    I'm pretty sure the ring wired doorbell you have will not ring the inside chime in your house

    • @DuctTapeMechanic
      @DuctTapeMechanic  10 місяців тому

      Nobody said that it rings the doorbell inside. I bypassed the doorbell, that's why I had to purchase a separate chime
