Get you a good guitar with a good neck, and Humbucker and single coil pickups. Get an affordable all tube amplifier. Other than a tuner and a nice reverb pedal (unless the amp has one onboard). leave all these 249,869 pedals out there, forget those for now. Learn to lay the guitar. Learn to play rhythm. Every 14 year old kid wants to be EVH within 2 weeks, and I was once there, but believe me, you need to know timing, volume control, and tone. Learn these things first. It will pay off. A Beginner's advice: Know your style that you like to play. Research some of your favorite artists and find out what they use. Can't afford the real thing? Lots and lots of pedals under $100. Finally, use the tone knobs on your guitar and your Amp EQ. No need to break the bank on pedals.

I've been playing guitars for a decade now, I play in a basement rock band, I've got boost, overdrive, volume and tuner pedals as well as an octaver, I've been fiddling with amp knobs for years, and yet I realize what an utter noob I am. I appreciate these videos so much. They're great quality, the best type of commercial you can imagine. If it wasn't for budget reasons, I'd go on a shopping spree and get me a wah-wah, delay, reverb, phaser and probably an infinity of other tiny gizmos I can't properly use because I can't play, lol.
For real, I love this. Sam's presentation is ultra-chill and professional. Love the magician hands. Looks like he's gonna transform a pedal into a bouquet of flowers any second now. :D

Been learning guitar on a Telecaster / Mustang 2 combo for a little over a year. The presets are "enough" to imitate some popular tones on songs, but I'm starting to get picky. This video helped a ton for what I want to prioritize trying out for rock/blues solos and rhythm.
My GF bought me what will be my first pedal for my upcoming birthday... the suspense is killing me because I don't want to buy the same pedal on a whim. ( I saw the amazon box with the battery warning but I'm trying to act like I don't know what it was! )

I've just watched 3 of your videos and each has addressed issues that i feel would have transformed my playing as a youth. I always felt like I could never achieve the sound I was looking for and hearing in my head during song writing. Ultimately this led to stagnation and eventually I just lost interest. I now have a new passion to start playing again . I don't subscribe to many people but i just did. Thank you for these very informative, concise videos.
