    Perfect timing as I'm currently assembling pedals for my first pedal board. After years of using multi fx pedals and/or modelling amps, I figured it's time to up my game and splash out on some pedals and a tube amp!

    I’ve seen many videos and read many articles about pedalboard placement and they all follow the core tenets like having modulation and reverb at the end, distortion near the front etc but they all differ slightly to taste when incorporating pedals like EQ, pitch shifting, compression etc
    When trying to cherry pick advice concerning my specific set up, I always find contradictions So I’m very excited to see that the pedals you have in this video mirror my mirror my own choices fairly closely
    Rock on Dagan!!

    I’m a home studio guy, so it needs to sit on a place on my studio desk. I have 2 boards, a guitar board and a loop board. Makes it so much easier. I have a drop and it has been at the front of my board for 10 years, but I also split my signal with a TC Mimiq and send the left channel out to a Headrush pedal board for a stereo sound

    effects loop and a noise gate changed my whole set up ... tuner - noisegate input 1 - fuzz - OD - amp input ... then noisegate output to chorus - flanger - reverb - delay - tremolo - effects loop IN then effects loop out back to noisegate

      Im waiting for an EHX silencer to arrive and i will probably have a similar set up! im a little confused about it being placed before the overdrives unless the loop means it comes back around to gate them after? i'm sure i'll find it all out when it FINALLY arrives. How do you like this set up?

    i think experimentation is the key because i think the order also depends on the pedals themselves, i found that my octave pedal only really works well when first in the chain, next is the wah and then i have my tuner pedal, then fuzz, i use the OD and reverb in my amp so don't need to worry about that , i put boost and delay into the FX loop. That's it, simple.

    There's is a basic right way; dirt, pitch, mod, delay, reverb, looper. The best way to think about it is take it two at a time, deciding how effect affects the one behind it. If you wanna modulate your delay, you put the modulation after. If you want a modulated sound delay, you put the delay after. When it comes to reverb, it's best after delay and closer to the end so you can reverberate the entire sound effects and all, but if you want to reverberate earlier then affect that reverb with a delay or modulation or pitch, it can work too. Just give alot thought of what each pedal does the others and you'll get it. Building right pedal board is ALOT of consideration and trial and error even if you know the basically best setup like what's explained here. It's a project that really never ends cause you'll always be changing things out if you get too engrossed in it

    • @mikecunningham4682
      @mikecunningham4682 Рік тому +2

      Howdy, I'm not Dagan, but AFAIK you want your noise gate directly after whatever it is that's making the noise ypu dont want, so generally the distortion.
      Easiest way to figure that out is to to have your setup ready to go, then turn off one pedal only at a time and you'll hear which one is the main culprit 😊

    One tip if you are using a tuner with a buffer - put the Drop before it. The Drop does not play well with buffers and should be getting the most direct signal possible for the best tracking. I learned this from my own experience.

    Greetings from the Northeast of America. I think the vid I'm speaking of is a bit old. Largely on your advice/ review I bought a Pathfinder 10. When showed how it got overdriven and cleaned up by turning guitar volume down. This amp does that and much more weather u drive the amp with vol or play at apt vol this inexpensive works great. I've demo's in which the player didn't seem to know how to get the best out of it. Thanks again. When I need to make another purchase I will consult you. Rock on! bye for now. P.S. works great with pedals.

    This is pretty a cool and informative video but... wouldn't the beginner guitarist or bassist benefit much more from a multi-effects unit rather than separate stomp boxes? Just from a cost perspective alone, a good multi FX unit can give most, if not all those effects in one handy unit, many times at a much lower price tag.
    Not to mention, many modern m-fx units have good, user-friendly interfaces that allow for quick and easy changes. Plus, they usually have some good sounding tones right out of the box. If need be, the person can dive into creating or tweaking patches to their liking. This also serves to introduce new players to the in's-and-out's of how each effect works/sounds, the placement of effects and the different features and details of each effect in their chain.
    Nevertheless; the educational nature of this video is really great! Also, you should really try playing through more than one amp. A great sounding stereo multi-amp rig can really spice things up for your playing in new, exciting ways!

    • @richardervins
      @richardervins Рік тому +1

      It really depends on what you want the result to be like. Roughly you can divide „distortion“ pedals into three categories: Boost, Overdrive, and Fuzz. Most pedals also have a specific tone shaping function, sometimes as a frequency curve changer or a treble, mid, bass booster. So you‘ll probably want to have that in the front of your signal chain, because that‘s a quite significant tone changer. But if you just want to boost your signal (e.g. for soloing) you can put it almost anywhere before the time based effects (like delay). Always keep in mind what a pedal does to the overall frequency profile. Once a frequency band is gone, it‘s gone.
      One reason why you‘ll have to experiment, is because there are so many different guitars, pickup configurations and so many different music styles you may want to play with them. If you want to „have it all“ you may want to consider a modeler instead of a pedal board, as it may give you much more flexibility at a much lower price, too. With a modeler you can reconfigure your „pedal board“ with the push of a button and enjoy the characteristics of different amps, cabinets and speaker responses at the same time. And you can accommodate different guitars too, without having to have individual pedal boards or specific settings.

    • @nicholascrow8133
      @nicholascrow8133 Рік тому

      But then you are limited when playing over the loop, you can't add any effects without it effecting the entire loop, unless that is what you want, but then it will quickly all become a mess if you start layering. It's better to just have the loop at the end and just use the effects you want when recording the loop
