Love this cut. I’m so glad layers are coming back. For the last couple years I’ve been asking for a layered cut and it seems no one knows how to do them this way where all the layers are seen on top.

@@SchroderCat If they are stuck in the 90s they are talented, trust them, nowadays stylists don't know how to create true layers like these, they create thin rat tales and terrible uneven ends without fullness without body.

I did this cut on myself and I’m not a hairstylist or anything close to it. It came out amazing. Best haircut I’ve ever had !!!!! 10/10 bravo. Easy to follow instructions for the layman.

I just gave this cut to my friendwho has mildly course curly hair. We cut the length just a bit shorter and the rest fell in easily! An amazing tutorial! Thank you.

This is amazing. I have high density hair and so many hairstylist do NOT want to overextend, or take small sections. They rush the cut, and barely pull to 90 degrees - more like 80 - then you get a horrible gap in the layering, and thick ends that bevel. My God I’m saving this vid to show the next person that cuts my hair!!!!!! Love Love Love your step by step guide and Thank You for not talking slowly, or being showy!

I've been doing a very similar technique for years. I always use a vertical , moving guide and follow the shape of the head. It works well for all layered cuts on thick hair. Gorgeous haircut!! Great tutorial! Thanks for sharing.

I have attended a hair cutting class yesterday at a training academy , and the trainer did not even come close to your way of technique , explaining the steps or simply conveying the information. I love the structured way of explaining each step and now I can understand the logic behind it. Thank you so much. Please keep doing these videos. Love your work.

I have watched many hair cutting videos and have seen many styles and methods of hair cutting and I must say that yours is the best style and method. It can be applied to so many other styles of hair length and shapes. I'm sure you have other methods for cutting very short hair as well, i.e. point cutting, shag and razor cutting to name a few. Your voice over lesson and focus on detail is second to none that I have seen. I have seen many other complicated layouts of sectioning the hair before cutting and your is the best. I have learned through the years that keeping things simple is always the best way to go and yours is very straight forward in that regard. BRAVO SIR and thank you for the lesson.

OMG!!! I would let it air dry just like that!!! Add a little texturizing spray, maybe scrunch a little. That's how EXCELLENT this haircut is!!! But, mostly I like the way you blow dried the hair using those pin curls!!! Your are GIFTED at doing hair!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

❤️❤️❤️ I have thick course long hair and I'm a Cosmetologist. My coworkers do not like cutting my hair because I am never satisfied with how they layer my hair. My hair has a natural wave so I can wear it super curly if I want or I flat iron it. This video is very helpful. I will be showing this to them. I also found that when they use the thinning shears it raises my cuticle and my hair gets extremely poofy. After almost two years of growing it out I finally have one length again. I'm ready for the layers. Thanks for sharing.

I was fortunate enough to have the same hairstylist from the time I was in my early 20's until I was 50 when he passed away unexpectedly. This Haircut & style is EXACTLY how my Friend "Did" my hair. I ALWAYS got compliments on my style. It's been very hard to find someone that today that actually knows "how" to cut hair in layers for movement. I will save this video & show it to the next person that I visit.

Hi Matt, thanks so much for your vlogs, I loved this video. I have very long thick hair myself and I've always had a lot of it, I've never really known what was best for it through the years. I grow it out thick and then go in and take out lots of weight to change it up but it never really sits right.
Ive always been careful with layers because they have often just ruined the natural movement and shape of my hair. This video made a lot of sense to me and you always show such understanding of the head shape and face and what works best on what hair. It's a common problem, people always want this or that even if really, it just can't be done with that particular hair. You have to work with what you have and take it from there.
Thanks again, I look forward to your vlogs!

Thank you for this video. This is the haircut my lady does for me for the past 7 years. She since retired. Its been three years since I had a decent haircut. I have been having a hard time explaining this hair cut to salons I have visited. I always end up with short hair, layers on the bottom with textured ends. I have very very thick hair and explaining this cut is very difficult. Please keep this video up, so I can show this the to the hair stylist!

Oooh, I feel ya sista! My stylist was in a near fatal car accident and lost the use of her arms:( She was the only one who could cut my hair PERFECLY! She just knew how to cut long, thick, curly/wavy/coarse hair and I would always walk out of the salon feeling gorgeous. The last time she cut my hair was 10 years ago and I have NOT been able to find a stylist who can cut it correctly without chopping short layers into all the wrong places. Haven't worn my hair down in years b/c it's too thick and heavy so I pull it up in a bun or pony tail all the time. SICK of doing this! And I shouldn't have to considering all my great thick and healthy hair! Please Please, is there a stylist in Southern California who REALLY knows how to cut LONG layers into thick, coarse and wavy-curly hair anymore and debulk the heaviness without chopping everything down to nothing?? I want to wear my hair down again! I miss my wavy, touseled hair but right now it feels like a huge thick Q-tip without any movement whatsoever! help, please!

I took these screenshots to a hairdresser yesterday. I had plenty of long beautiful blonde hair to work with. I told her there was a video to watch if she wanted but she refused and laughed saying she had this in the bag. No Problem, I GOT THIS! She made it way to short basically just layered at random and looks nothing like the photos. She literally had me stand up the whole time to cut the ends. For the style she simply gave me three large curls on the top of my head. So now I'm just waiting for my hair to grow back. And find someone less full of themselves.

This is awesome! I get terrified when a client ask if I could cut long/concave layers. I always play it safe by just traveling around their head, cutting as little as possible to make it appear as if Zi know what I'm doing. Thank you for breaking this cut into a simple method. I can feel my anxiety slowly drifting away. I'll go home & master this on my mannequin head first though! 😆

I had the same problem but I started cutting my own hair many years ago, I often watch videos and this is probably the only video I have come across that is spot on. This is exactly how I have been cutting my hair for years I learned about this technique from a Lee Stafford video but he only did it on the front section and part of the side, this guy is using this technique all over which is much better and makes it much easier to cut your own hair. You can also take smaller sections and cut them combing up to create different styles, also combing your hair forward after the cut forward shows how the hair sits. I do not believe in thinning hair techniques I have always cut my hair with just scissors and cutting layers in the right direction which is combing up the sections and cutting straight across, you should consider cutting your own hair it will save you wasted money in the long run

    • @75julianne

Yes! I tried too and the hair dresser got offended when I tried to show her the video. She said “I know how to cut hair” and gave me a nasty look. I just left and didn’t go back after that. People need to be a little more humble.

    • @JASuperflex1
      @JASuperflex1 5 років тому +4

@@75julianne Ive offended a few hairdressers in my time too, and if a hairdresser gets offended and does not know how to explain his or herself then they are probably crap and unfortunately there are lots of crappy ones out there. Don't know why they bother, if I was cutting someones hair the idea would be to give them a beautiful haircut so they feel like a million dollars when they walk out of the salon, your hair is your beauty after-all

I LOVE THIS CUT! Finding THE RIGHT STYLIST/HAIR DRESSER THAT CAN CUT MY HAIR AND THEN WHEN I FIND THAT PERSON, THEY DISAPPEAR FROM A SALON. Again thank you! That is what I continuously ask for and I'm not getting through. I have to clearly say don't use razors, don't snip the ends. I just want a layered hair cut and come out looking like a horrid mess so disgusted that I have to go home and correct the mess. I have to actually work at fixing my hair before I go to a salon to give them an idea how I fix my hair cause if I don't OH GOD forbid I'm in danger of a bad haircut.

Long hair that is layered nicely in the back to not quite as drastic as a mullet but more gradual shorter layers towards the top back of the hair. Did that make sense? Hello!, I've got the thickest hair in the world according to my hairdresser! I have alot of it, plus my hair strands are very thick.I never seem to be able to get the right haircut and have shopped around mainly by recommendation, however for the most part I've been disappointed with the results. As I write, I have made an appointment again with my hairdresser for a recut. This seems to be my pattern.
    My questions:
    1. How to best advise my hairdresser to reduce the volume in my hair?
    2. Should my hairdresser use thinning scissors?
    3. Should she add a further shorter layer to bring out the curl and reduce the volume?
When my hair is cut right I literally get stopped in the street by strangers commenting on how great my hair is! This is my barometer.

Love the head sheets, can you explain the difference between graduation & layering. Why you would layer or graduate, what are the rules? ( can you show visuals of graduation & layers) when a guest shows you a haircut how can you see if style has layers or graduation? Are there any rules to why you wouldn't/would use graduation/layering on thick thin curly hair. Please explain/ show angles.

Hey Matt, love your video's, especially as a guy trying to find more success in a salon. Would love to see you do a styling product compilation video.
    Q. Moving onto the sides, when & where should we execute the initial cut... ontop of the shoulder, behind or even in front? Turn the guest's head to cut behind their shoulder &bconnect the front? That is, how can we maintain more consistency in bringing the left & right side forward?
Q2. Would this type of 'dense haircut' work on fine textured hair, too? I've had success with using your other haircuts & would like to use this on my model in my audition. Fine, super dense, wavy hair.
Would enjoy meeting you one day at one of your classes.

Can you show a slide thinning of thick course wavy hair. I had it done once my hair turns out great. Looked one length not all layered all over which made it worse. It looked so sleek and smooth minimal products. Little anti frizz and heat protector. No more rosannadanna (gilda radeneer) on Saturday night live with wild crazy thick frizzy hair. Thank you

I love this hair cut but when I tried to get it at the salon the girl had no idea what I was talking about when I described it and got offended when I wanted to show her the video. 😕 Beautiful cut though, thanks ❤️

I’m 57 years old and used to have my hair cut like this back in the 70’s only feathered at the sides. But haven’t been able to find anyobe in the last 30 years that can do it. It always ends up a chopped up mess that just poofs out. I miss the days when everyone knew what a Farrah cut and “featherd” meant.

Yep thick course hair with boby n little wave. My hair is easy to train . Most of the time people think I spent a lot of time on it n sometimes yes but I get by. .. if it wasn't for conditioner and oil I'd in up getting it cut off. Thanks

I understand everything in the haircut besides the top parting. Why was the top part triangular and in diagonal sections? What was the reason for that sectioning and directing it back toward the layers? I notice a lot of long layers just overdirect from the crown area and back, but leave the weight in the front besides some face framing. Why would someone choose that style of layering the top front of the hair? Thank you!

Excellent cut & finish. I would like to see a layered cut with layers only at the
bottom so it could be flicked up to finish. Thanks.
