I wanted to add I’ve been cutting my own hair for years solely based on this tutorial. I always get compliments though I’m aware curly hair is very forgiving!
like your straightforward style. also your attention to body position relating to partings. VERY important details that MAKE the difference between a good haircut & a GREAT cut.
Love your demo videos and the way you explain the method to your madness! So glad I found you on UA-cam! I’m a professional stylist and always love to learn❣️
I love this, its exactly what I've been looking for. My only issue...how do I explain this to a hairdresser? I haven't had a professional cut in yeeears because I've had such bad experiences more often than not. What I mean by this is whenever I would go to get my hair cut and explain what I want, the hairdresser seemed to go off into their own world and do what they felt would have looked good for me, according to them, not to me, and it was never good (uneven, unflattering angles, etc.) 9 out of 10 times its been an awful experience, so, I started to cut it myself for a while, but I can't do it myself anymore nor do I want to. If I am to try to get my hair professionally cut again, how do I ensure they execute this cut exactly right here? Perhaps there's some sort of lingo I'm missing?
darthclone7 I don't remmber as its been so long, but I can tell you I've gone to different places and different hairdressers every time. That being said, I don't think price was an issue.
This is the question I was going to ask. Hope we get an answer. Love this style so much. I usually end up with layers that are too short on top and I am fed up with that now. Hard to know what to ask for.
Hi Matt, My name is Sumei. I have been watching your haircut technique server months. I do love it because most technique is useful and faster at salon. and also I can teach basic techniques to students at beginning learning process. thank you
Wow thanks! I just cut my friend’s hair using this tutorial, she has straight but very poofy hair. I went a bit longer, and it still came out really nice.
I appreciate your technique. You explain so much while getting to the point & to the tutorial. Never causing me to loose interest as too much info. usually does for most. I' following your styles & your style. thanx...
Well. I learned taking THIN sections is a must. Otherwise it comes out choppy. However, my hair is thick enough & wavy enough that no one can tell. And it grows . 25 in every 10 days
I am in school to get my costmetology license. And pictures is the best option for you to show your stylist what hair cut you want. That way you dont leave with a haircut that you never asked for.
I have thick wavy shoulder-length hair on the shorter side and oval shaped face, I would like to make my hair look longer. Would you have any advice or ideas about how I could achieve this? Thank you, I just found your how-to videos, and I love them.
Matt, I want to thank you for your instructional video on Medium length layered haircut for thick hair! I'm not a stylist by trade, but have always loved learning new techniques for cutting hair. I've been cutting my own hair for more than 10yrs now and can honestly say your video help me achieve the style perfectly! I'm actually surprised it turned out as well as it did. So, thank you! Alisha Ragusa
I LOVE FSE! I'm wondering if this cut would be good for fine hair and low density guests, since the short layers might help support the longer layers on top? Giving more a a seamless look throughout the cut and a great shape?
Ok so I tried this haircut on my friend/client with thick hair and the skinny side has a major problem with too short of layers. She coming in for me to fix it, I'm hoping bringing up the length another inch will help it. It doesn't look horrible, she's just not comfortable with it. 😞
I wish there was a longer look. So tired of short hair . Would live my hair mid length and look sleek and great movement. Nobody gets how to cuthick wavy hair.. one said I specialize but 100.00. I sighed a went for it. My hair was bra length by the time she got done it was to my shoulders and looked horrible all kinds of layers. Took 1 1/2 years to get some resemblance of a hair style. Sheer chaos for us. Getting a decent hair cut is as Aniston ridden as going to a dentist geez
After directing the top of heavy side forward and cutting from short to long...did you part horizontal sections from sides to pull forward and blend. The video does not show the partings from heavy side? Love the technique
In terms of client consultation, how would you suggest or explain this cut to a client? For example, how would you determine how much length to take off the perimeter without cutting it first? I'm still in hair school, and your videos have helped me out so much and I feel so much more confident in my work. I'm really looking forward to a response 😊. I have so many people I do cuts on that have an extreme amount of thickness but want a flowy cut with layers and all I feel I can do is basic bone structure and reverse elevation.
I love this.. this is actually my current hair style.. I use a curling iron though, a 2 1/2 one and I get the top to have so much volume and my ends to have a bounce to them. I wish I could see you use a curling iron more often then the straighter? I guess not everyone uses one all the time. I have 3 but, it takes my volume away that I love. Mayne in a future video you could use one? ;) I watch your videos every morning with my coffee.
I have been told that I have a A LOT hair per square inch, but not necessarily thick strands. Will this work for that? Also, is it pretty low-maintenance, as far as daily styling?
I would love to see shorter hair cuts that mature women usually gravitate towards. You do a lot of great videos of the graduated bobs, and pixie cuts, but what about the styles of combination layering between those lengths?
I love this! I want this hair cut! Cause every time I get layers they cut it exactly how you say and I have short layers that I can’t do anything with..
It’s 2021 Nov. It would be great to show this cut again on a live model. First show the longer hair version of it you referred to. Making sure to really show ALL SIDES OF THE HEAD and how the cut lays. Then go back in and cut it this short. It would be nice if you responded to the comment section questions. Especially from fellow cosmetologists who are asking you questions about your technique. It’s nice this hair cut is relevant in 2021-2022.
Ur way to tech us is superb thx 4 that but plz make sure when u start using scissor show us in slow motion before that a one thing that i can't understand how direction really nice
this cut is beautiful , but due to M.S. meds I have lost about a third of my hair. I used to have very thick hair not any more . any suggestions on a good cut for thinner hair? thank you enjoy your vids
Rub castor oil on your scalp at least once a week and leave it on for about 20min before you shower. It worked great for me. Both times after giving birth to my girls i lost a ton of hair but it grew back after with vitamins and castor oil
can i ask how you explain disconnection to clients?? iv had clients complain about the long pieces when they tie it up ect, not understanding the reasoning for it, nor that it was on purpose. this is something that I've been struggling with
What's the best cut for me? I have long, hip length hair but because of thyroid dysfunction, I have thining hair line in front like a recession at both corners of my forehead. please respond. I haven't had a cut in 2 years because I don't know what will work
As a cosmetologist, I can't recommend a cut because I don't know your head/face shape. But as a fellow thyroid sufferer, I do recommend taking vitamin E & biotin. Not the "hair, skin & nails" formula, but individual capsules. Best of luck to you!
This is my hair, thick & wavy- even my exact hair color. I hope I can do this to my own hair at home. 🤞🤞 And I hate long, drawn out videos so I'm hoping you dont talk a lot. 😫 ya, the scissor should have been a seperate video. 😢
Perfect haircut. Love the way you did the front.
This is like my favourite hair cut for most of my life.
I love this. I saw this years ago and didn’t I understand. 8 years later I still love it and understand more. Mahalo
I just did this one on my daughter and she loves it!! (I'm a mom, not a professional stylist)
I just watched your video tonight and did it on myself. I also have natural curls and it layed perfect! Thank you!
I wanted to add I’ve been cutting my own hair for years solely based on this tutorial. I always get compliments though I’m aware curly hair is very forgiving!
People don't give hairdressers Enough appreciation...saved my life a million times.
Fei x seriously, the training we go through and the state board testing is so intense you would be so shocked!
@@mslily3311 Not to mention the continued education..Matt is awesome.for teaching these cuts that translate so well in the salon world.
Great looking cut. I wish I saw this before I cut my wife's hair last week!
Gonna cut my wife's tonight. Wish me luck.
So hot when a man cuts his wife's hair!!! 😂
@@ENFPerspectives I'm not sure my wife saw it that way. I've not been allowed to cut it since! 😂

I don't want to end up as another salon dummy.
Lidia Kaylor how much do you pay for your haircut?
darthclone7 I don't remmber as its been so long, but I can tell you I've gone to different places and different hairdressers every time. That being said, I don't think price was an issue.

I am a Hair stylist and I always steal a technique or two from you. Keep on doing what you do.
Me too. zhe is a great cutter.
Wow thanks! I just cut my friend’s hair using this tutorial, she has straight but very poofy hair. I went a bit longer, and it still came out really nice.
Wow! Love the look! Super versatile and masterfully accomplished. Kudos!!

So happy to see your comment. I'm about to try it myself. !!
Love this style. My hair is thicker but had wave under the top layer. Would this work for
I'm a customer not a stylist.
Loving this cut! Do you think it would work with a long bang? Currently growing my bangs out yet want this cut
Dear sir I was waiting your this video you did layer cut with side parting if we have the give concave layer on middle parting how we will cut it.
Question: How did you determine the length of the top section, Did you just create a new guide or use the lighter side top.ayer?
He used the part side as a guide for one side but just cut at an angle and didn't match it to the heavy side. This is why there's a disconnection.
Wish you were in Austin TX I would come to you! Love this haircut!
I LOVE FSE!
I'm wondering if this cut would be good for fine hair and low density guests, since the short layers might help support the longer layers on top? Giving more a a seamless look throughout the cut and a great shape?
Did you delete the haircut video of your sons mohawk? That was a badass cut!
