Dear Kirk, thankyou for sharing. You explain your journey beautifully.
    I transitioned 30 years ago-m to f.
My only issue is getting kicked out of church because they don't have disabled toilets.
These days I don't tell people I am trans so I don't get in trouble in woman's spaces,( toilets)
Reason I changed was a violence alcoholic father who I did not want to be like. Little me wanted to be like my mum who was brave and supportive.

Since gender is rooted in sex (much like race is rooted in ethnicity), it cannot actually be changed (just as race cannot be changed). The real question is "how do I know if I have gender dysphoria?" And the appropriate follow up question would then be related to treatment. Should I undergo psychotherapy to learn to love and accept myself for who I am, or should I sterilize myself with life-long hormone therapies and multiple disfiguring cosmetic surgeries in a vain attempt to mimic the opposite sex?
I'm guessing psychologists wouldn't "affirm" an anorexic woman's claim of being fat, why would they affirm a boy's claim that he is a girl? Both patients are suffering from body dysphoria, why do we affirm one form of body dysphoria and not the other? Clearly there is a political bias in the approach to treatment.

Yes it is scary. Great nan once said "if you can get people to believe in absurdities you can get them to commit atrocities"
People can play dress up all they want but any dr mutilating someone to make tgem feel better about their delusions belongs in prison. A man cannot even really know what it feels like to be female because they have ne er been nor will tgey ever be female. Yes having delusional disorders sux, but it is the opposite of compassion to humor anyones delusions.

Thanks for sharing. I don't think it is a problem diagnosing people who are struggling with Gender Dysphoria. The underlying issue is identifying what is causing the Gender Dysphoria. Is it something that is happening later in life, or have you always struggled with this issue?
Most everyone who deals Gender Dysphoria is likely to tell you there is no solution other than transition, and are not likely to be open to finding alternatives to transitioning. Their mindset is one that finds it difficult to see the potential for choices.
We do know that there are a percentage of people who do de-transition and find another path to overcoming Gender Dysphoria. Some speak out, but many are unwilling because most advocates for transition are quick to shout down anyone who suggests alternatives to transition.
Obviously, this is an extremely difficult subject for many people to tackle.

Wow, thanks for sharing your story, every story like this will help others. I've never been trans, but I was a tom boy back in the 70s and probably would have been told I was if I had exposure to what kids are exposed to today. I have talked to people who consider themselves trans allies and have asked why it's so bad to focus on long-term therapy first to help children, or even adults, who struggle with their gender identity. Instead of rushing to risky, life-altering medical interventions, why not find underlying issues that might prevent such drastic actions? And if one eventually as an adult feels the need to take the next step, that's their business-- but wouldn't it be better to try to help people feel comfortable in their own skin first and address any other traumas or mental health issues that may be there? And I get pretty much told I'm transphobic for that.
I wish you well, good vid.

A really interesting article. My criticism is that it is searching for a biological marker for gender dysphoria. The whole realm of psychiatry and psychology is based on the symptoms the client presents. There are no guaranteed biological markers for schizophrenia, narcissism, BPD, depression, anxiety or any of those other conditions that a mental health professional will diagnose. Looking for such a marker for gender dysphoria is almost certainly doomed to failure.
So, many of the people in the field look to what the client is experiencing and expressing. What will help them to feel better in themselves, help them to feel more whole, live more fulfilling lives? Often these people are vulnerable and hurting. To my mind, that is how you were short-changed by the clinic that just handed out the hormones for you. You were not seen, you were not heard and that is a real tragedy in this story. There will be some for whom transition is right and there will be others for whom transition is not right. There may even be some who need to try it as part of life's journey. (We are all entitled to get things wrong, with the possibility of learning from it.)
I am glad that, in the end, you got the support you needed, and I find it courageous of you to share your story.
    Thank you.

The other thing is that often clients don't know what it is important to tell the clinician - so your warning at the end if really helpful.

Sick part is when i was on state insurance it took almost a year to get testosterone supplement due to my levels being incredibly low and causing chronic fatigue and low immune response to infection. Rhe drs office next door however could prescribe hormonal treatments like candy to new and established "trans" patients with state medicade paying for ut in first request

I made the point on the biological markers because many claim there is biological proof when no conclusive proof exists. That doesn't mean that Gender Dysphoria is not a real thing, I know it is because I experienced it. Thanks for understanding my point that we need to be more careful on our path forward when dealing with Gender Dysphoria.

Thank you for sharing. My 17 year old daughter is struggling now. I'm so lost. She plans on taking hormones when she moves out. I'm terrified for her. 😢

I'd never heard the term "AGP" before your comment, and, no, that does not describe me. I'm not interested in erotica, and I never participated in sexual activities while dressing. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Thank you for commenting. I don't know that my friend regrets transition. She simply recommended strongly that I did not transition. I don't know what her reasoning was, if it was that she had regret, or that she felt that I would have regret. I'm trying to reach out as we haven't caught up in a long time and I want to ask her what her thinking is when she offered this advice.

    • @KirkTaylorcom

I do know that she wasn't happy in general before transition, and her comments on Facebook would lead me to believe she is still not happy in general.
