Unfortunately single stall restrooms are not always available☹️ I am FTM & generally pass, I have been using the men’s restroom for years without issue & my general philosophy (as an adult) has been to go in whichever restroom I think will make people less uncomfortable, which is now the men’s, but, back in elementary school (way before I transitioned) I got in trouble multiple times for using the boy’s restroom; my entire life (even when I was presenting feminine) I have always felt uncomfortable in women’s spaces, like I was invading somewhere I didn’t belong💁🏻‍♂️ When I was arrested a few years ago, I picked up an additional charge, for fighting a guard to prevent them from moving me to the women’s side of the jail! I didn’t think it was fair for someone with male testosterone levels to be put in with the women; I told them I would be willing to sign a release of liability if they would put me in general population with the men (I can handle my business😏) and if they wouldn’t do that, that I would rather be held in solitary than be misgendered. There are now multiple states where I would be committing a crime by using the men’s restroom🤯 I think it may be time for some malicious compliance on the part of trans men, it needs to become crystal freaking clear, the what the Republicans are doing is forcing bearded, hairy, muscular MEN into women’s spaces!

I feel similar. I use gender medicine (castration/low dose estrogen) to hold onto my male youth as a twink in his 40's. I ask traditional transsexual and transgender folks if they think it would be okay if I hung out at the junior high to inappropriately accommodate my identity issue. Similarly some females feel violated and out of sorts when natal males enter into their spaces supplemented by self ID without hormones or a doctor's note. It's difficult because what happens with transmen? I don't need a social transition. Mine is limited to other male adults like myself which I've counted online and I've met 3 and am happy I had conversations and fellowship with them. I'm a hebephile who had a very creative way to have a pathway to a social life without masculinizing and destroying my body. These idiots are shifting the flashbulb to the medicine of which I need. For about a decade, I was very angry with transwomen and now am even more angry with conservatives. Just use the GD men's room and be done with it if there's no single seater. I wouldn't worry about the marketing behind any brand on any product to be honest. As long as they keep that stuff off the final product itself then I say just enjoy the product for what it's worth. Life's too short to be worrying about current marketing trends.

I would say anyone who believes they are born in the wrong body (impossible; it's YOUR body!) should get out more and get busy. The developing world does not have this 'problem' because they can't afford to have it! They are working to survive for the most part. Just get busy and your delusion will disappear. Dear Kirk, thankyou for sharing. You explain your journey beautifully. I transitioned 30 years ago-m to f. My only issue is getting kicked out of church because they don't have disabled toilets. These days I don't tell people I am trans so I don't get in trouble in woman's spaces,( toilets) Reason I changed was a violence alcoholic father who I did not want to be like. Little me wanted to be like my mum who was brave and supportive.

Since gender is rooted in sex (much like race is rooted in ethnicity), it cannot actually be changed (just as race cannot be changed). The real question is "how do I know if I have gender dysphoria?" And the appropriate follow up question would then be related to treatment. Should I undergo psychotherapy to learn to love and accept myself for who I am, or should I sterilize myself with life-long hormone therapies and multiple disfiguring cosmetic surgeries in a vain attempt to mimic the opposite sex? I'm guessing psychologists wouldn't "affirm" an anorexic woman's claim of being fat, why would they affirm a boy's claim that he is a girl? Both patients are suffering from body dysphoria, why do we affirm one form of body dysphoria and not the other? Clearly there is a political bias in the approach to treatment.

A really interesting article. My criticism is that it is searching for a biological marker for gender dysphoria. The whole realm of psychiatry and psychology is based on the symptoms the client presents. There are no guaranteed biological markers for schizophrenia, narcissism, BPD, depression, anxiety or any of those other conditions that a mental health professional will diagnose. Looking for such a marker for gender dysphoria is almost certainly doomed to failure. So, many of the people in the field look to what the client is experiencing and expressing. What will help them to feel better in themselves, help them to feel more whole, live more fulfilling lives? Often these people are vulnerable and hurting. To my mind, that is how you were short-changed by the clinic that just handed out the hormones for you. You were not seen, you were not heard and that is a real tragedy in this story. There will be some for whom transition is right and there will be others for whom transition is not right. There may even be some who need to try it as part of life's journey. (We are all entitled to get things wrong, with the possibility of learning from it.) I am glad that, in the end, you got the support you needed, and I find it courageous of you to share your story. Wow, thanks for sharing your story, every story like this will help others. I've never been trans, but I was a tom boy back in the 70s and probably would have been told I was if I had exposure to what kids are exposed to today. I have talked to people who consider themselves trans allies and have asked why it's so bad to focus on long-term therapy first to help children, or even adults, who struggle with their gender identity. Instead of rushing to risky, life-altering medical interventions, why not find underlying issues that might prevent such drastic actions? And if one eventually as an adult feels the need to take the next step, that's their business-- but wouldn't it be better to try to help people feel comfortable in their own skin first and address any other traumas or mental health issues that may be there? And I get pretty much told I'm transphobic for that. I wish you well, good vid.
