This was an interesting and helpful video for sure! For me, I think it's just the shock of the game having a "fluid class" system (especially coming from FF14) where I can theoretically switch between any two weapon combinations at will, but the only thing I keep hearing is how that choice is super critical in the beginning since leveling up the weapons and skills is extremely costly, both in mats and in time. Since the game apparently gives you one of each grey weapons at the start, would it theoretically make sense to test out potential combos to see what gels, and just not level those weapons up?
@@itsmorphinetime Yup! I recommend coming up with 1-3 combinations that look the most fun to you and trying them ott before you settle on one. so is the passive skills you choose always active or do you have to switch weapons to keep dem active? I apologize if you explained that already i am writing this as i listen to video
The passives for each weapon are always active as long as you have the weapon equipped, so you get the passives you select from both at all times! And never apologize for asking, even if I've explained it in the video - that's what comments are for and I'm happy to help. :))
The passive _SKILLS_ are always active; the mastery effects that you select once you get to 50 and start getting weapon mastery levels, are only active while using that particular weapon, including when you auto-switch weapons for attacks with your backup weapon, it will switch to the backup weapon's mastery for the length of that attack.

Any information on Staff + Sword/shield or Staff + Xbow? I never go magic user so I want to try either a more durable caster than can survive being caught or a quick agile caster
Staff + SnS isn't that great imo, just because it clashes in purpose a lot. SnS focuses on being in the middle of fights and taking hits, while Staff is the literal opposite. Staff + XBow is actually a great combo for very mobile DPS! There aren't a lot of clashes here which makes it work. :)
@@ketsandhisgames nice, I was watching some greatsword/staff gameplay too and that looks pretty fun and hard hitting as well. May still do xbow/staff though
Thinking of jumping into this game, and this video was just what I was looking for, tired of all the "YOU MUST PICK THIS CLASS/WEAPON COMBO" guide videos... ofc understandable when it comes to mmorpg. and especially here when respecing isn't that easy to do or so I heard. it seems to take some time of hoarding some skill transfer books or such or well spend real life money which is a big no for me. Wonder how bad it really is, seems at least if you have enough of those books they give to players now and then, you can respec to another weapon and just transfer the lvl lets say from bow to greatsword and you good.
I'm glad the video helped! Tbh, the skill books aren't really an issue, it's just that different combinations need different traits on gear, and it's quite difficult and takes a long time to get the right traits you need/want. Swapping to a new combination means having to do that grind again so it tends to be a big step backwards.
I have always played tank and i love it but i was thinking great sword for dps and wand but i want to be invited to groups please help im uber confused lol
@@plumppickle4u108 If you love being a tank then SnS/Wand will be right up your alley! There's always demand for good tanks too so don't worry about that
There's really no such thing as a primary or secondary weapon. Any of the combinations that uses Dagger as a "secondary" pretty much works just as well with Dagger as a "primary"! Staff/Dagger = Dagger/Staff, etc.
Haha true! That's the magic of the method - there's way more combinations than the 9 popular ones I suggested at the end, it's all about mixing two style you find fun!
@@SynnJynn You can but it's not that great because there's a good amount of chanelling involved. Kiting with Staff works more like stand still and attack -> move -> stand still and attack -> move rather than moving and attacking at the same time.
Hello, I like the idea of selecting the weapons for what they do and what I like. However, western players are often very picky when it comes to recruitment in guilds or pug groups. Since the game puts high pressure on players, it seems very important to join a big enough guild so that you can progress as much as possible, especially in free 2 play. And that's where the struggle begins. I play with a friend who plays almost healer only if I want to play tank as sns+wand it seems like we shouldn't pve together. Same type of issue, if i chose sns+dagger, guilds will only see it as a tank who doesn't have the GS buff to give to his mates. Support and tank roles are very restricted, I don't want to play sns+GS.
@@TheScudik Unfortunately that's the nature of MMOs these days. I actually kind of hate it. Instead of guilds being a place for like-minded people to have fun together, it's become almost esports-like with the priority being min-maxing. That's why I didn't want to include a tier list in this video, because I wanna be at least a (very) small part of bringing joy back to MMOs instead of pure numbers and efficiency. Thankfully though, there are always a few guilds here and there that are chill in every MMO, so I hope that you'll be able to join on of them!
Heyy, which combination are you using as background footage for this? It looks like LB + Staff but I'm not too sure, but whatever is going on in the background is what I'd love to do haha, looks very fluid with a few casts inbetween and from range
I think it should work as the same as on PC. You can go to your character screen where you add stats like Dex and there, you can switch out weapons for other weapons. You'll need to have a new weapon to switch to in your inventory though!
@@MsSamanthaIreland Sort of. Most of the time, you'll be crafting them yourself. That's why I recommend using this method to find 1-3 combinations you'll enjoy the most, instead of trying out all 21 possible combinations cus that would make anyone quit!
The wand works quite well with most weapons, actually, as does the Dagger. At the end of the day, gaining the ability to self-buff and heal (Wand) or mobility (Dagger) isn't bad! The only thing is that it can clash a bit but really, you can definitely make it work super well if you enjoy it and find it fun!
@@mugiwara2697 It clashes a bit in purpose because the mobility of the crossbow is at odds with wanting to stand still and take hits as the tank, but don't let that discourage you! If those playstyles seem fun, give it a go - you might discover something noone else has thought of.

There's 21 combinations total, and expecting you or any player to try them all out is dumb because people will just get bored of trying classes and quit - I know I would! So just pick 3 that look the most **fun** and as long as you settle on the one that is the MOST fun, you'll have a great time.
I literally only want to do PVE and Solo or maybe hook up with a couple of friends. I don't want to mess with the guild or anything like that I've been there and done that.
Go bow staff or staff dagger
this game not for you
Me aswell, il try the free version and if it pushes heavy into grouped activities il see myself out. Played too many games like that which forget that portion of the player base that would appreciate a solo dungeon or 2 at end game. By all means have the big grouped dungeons but would a few solo dungeons really be that difficult to create?
This isn't a pve game what is wrong with you ppl
@@sirbobernik it’s both. Pve and pvp. They should learn from other ppls mistakes and cater to both otherwise mass exodus when ppl figure out the game is 1 dimensional. If it’s group play or bust il be gone. Not asking for any sympathy etc but just a heads up to the devs if there is not small group or solo activities il be out.
Im stuck between GS+SS or SS+wand for tanking - I do a fair of solo play
so is the passive skills you choose always active or do you have to switch weapons to keep dem active? I apologize if you explained that already i am writing this as i listen to video
The passives for each weapon are always active as long as you have the weapon equipped, so you get the passives you select from both at all times!
And never apologize for asking, even if I've explained it in the video - that's what comments are for and I'm happy to help. :))
@@ketsandhisgames Thank you this is very helpful
The passive _SKILLS_ are always active; the mastery effects that you select once you get to 50 and start getting weapon mastery levels, are only active while using that particular weapon, including when you auto-switch weapons for attacks with your backup weapon, it will switch to the backup weapon's mastery for the length of that attack.
I'm stuck between sword&shield/Greatsword or crossbow/dagger very different style of play. Hard choices
Personally I would play sword and shield/wand for extreme tanker
Been thinking of either full magic (staff/wand for that anime meme), dagger/longbow or somewhere in-between those 2 sets.
I'm also stuck between same builds XD what at did you choose I'll do the same ::)
@@boratepe5620 I decided staff/wand
@@boratepe5620 I decided on crossbow/dagger so if i want to change later I can go dagger/GS then long them gs into s&s if I want a playstyle change
Do all weapons have aoe versions of skills? Or gear sets that change skills? Seems lame to want to use a weapon, but it's only a single target dps..
. . .zero mention in this video for how support players make their pairings... or of what is good? Not judging 😅 just... I kind of want my time back.❤
sns with greatsword is so cool
What if I want warlock style with wand? Not for support.
Staff/Wand works as a self-sustaining DPS too!
@@ketsandhisgames I meant DPS with wand. So I'd go wand/dagger (for the inv too).
is crossbow + Wand a decent pairing? was curious on how it would pair.
It's pretty good as a support DPS but more so than that, it can be really nice for self-sustain, since you can heal yourself if you get hit.
I'm surprised there was no Bow and Wand?
I need a website with this videos layout lmao.
me: "ah.. this might help me decide if i want to use sword/gs or gs/dagger"
me after: "Ah. it didnt.."
hmmm....i like to play hybrid magic+melee or if not possible pure magic classes in rpg games. GS looks interesting not sure what would be best combination for this. I guess i will try staff + wand first
@@lorgren4002 Hmm, what magic-melee classes from other MMOs do you like playing?
@@ketsandhisgames For example: Shaman/Paladin from WOW, Magus from Pathfinder and so on. Shield + Wand is closer to the Paladin from the looks of it but i am not sure if i want to be tank/healer in this game
@@lorgren4002 SnS/Wand is definitely closest to the Paladin. For Shaman, I'd say the Wand/Staff is closest to it. The Magus is a bit tougher. The closest seems like GS/Staff, which can definitely be fun but it can also be a bit challenging to use.
I really want to play shield and bow 😢but don’t know how to build it
😂start with 3 or more arms.
Very good video bro.
Thank you.
Hi, player!
Here’s freedom for you!
The Freedom:
Swapping to a new combination means having to do that grind again so it tends to be a big step backwards.
im thinking about xbow + wand ? what u think about that?
That could definitely work! The wand would help keep you alive and you can provide minor support to your team while you do DPS.
Those popular pairings are missing a big one. Longbow+wand is the best healer/support in the game and you didnt even mention it...
I have always played tank and i love it but i was thinking great sword for dps and wand but i want to be invited to groups please help im uber confused lol
@@plumppickle4u108 If you love being a tank then SnS/Wand will be right up your alley! There's always demand for good tanks too so don't worry about that
I'll prove everyone wrong when I pull up with my Staff and greatsword doing more dps than anyone!! I swear it! Just you watch!
Is there really no viable dagger build? Is it always secondary?
dagger/wand using mostly dagger skill with support from wand , very effective in small scale pvp, 1v1
There's really no such thing as a primary or secondary weapon. Any of the combinations that uses Dagger as a "secondary" pretty much works just as well with Dagger as a "primary"! Staff/Dagger = Dagger/Staff, etc.
i used bow/gs in beta it was pretty fun
No dark magic cuz i like healing and dark magic combo
Where Wand/Bow :))
Haha true! That's the magic of the method - there's way more combinations than the 9 popular ones I suggested at the end, it's all about mixing two style you find fun!
So you can't kite with staff?
@@SynnJynn You can but it's not that great because there's a good amount of chanelling involved. Kiting with Staff works more like stand still and attack -> move -> stand still and attack -> move rather than moving and attacking at the same time.
Is it possible to effectively do 2 sets a set of plate and set of leather
And a set of ss/wand
And a set of dagger/greatsword
Absolutely you can! Lots of people like to have a set for PvE and a set for PvP, for example.
@@ketsandhisgames thanks that puts my archeage worries to bed
Good Video +1 Sub. Keep it up.
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it!
How about sword and shield+ wand
That’s a paladin build
@@clayk4753More a Templar build. Paladin build is Greatsword + Wand.
Dagger Wand it is.
Well after watching this it looks like my choices dont work together at all...... yay
Heyy, which combination are you using as background footage for this? It looks like LB + Staff but I'm not too sure, but whatever is going on in the background is what I'd love to do haha, looks very fluid with a few casts inbetween and from range
@@TH3WTFLEGUAN Haha yep, that's Longbow+Staff!
Why tf would i want 2 playstyles??
ill probabaly go with greatsword crossbow or bow crossbow
Ooh GS + Xbow is such an interesting choice!
@@riasgremory5943 i was thinking the same thing aswell !
A Berserk fan too?
Can someone help me please im playing this game on ps5. And i didnt change my weapons is there anyway i can change my weapons?
I think it should work as the same as on PC. You can go to your character screen where you add stats like Dex and there, you can switch out weapons for other weapons. You'll need to have a new weapon to switch to in your inventory though!
@@ketsandhisgames ah okay thank you I just find weapons during the game?
@@MsSamanthaIreland Sort of. Most of the time, you'll be crafting them yourself. That's why I recommend using this method to find 1-3 combinations you'll enjoy the most, instead of trying out all 21 possible combinations cus that would make anyone quit!
@@ketsandhisgames okay thank you so much
@@MsSamanthaIreland Tá fáilte romhat!
Pls im poor and I love ure vids
Ah, it's sad that wand has so few combinations.
The wand works quite well with most weapons, actually, as does the Dagger. At the end of the day, gaining the ability to self-buff and heal (Wand) or mobility (Dagger) isn't bad! The only thing is that it can clash a bit but really, you can definitely make it work super well if you enjoy it and find it fun!
what about crossbow and sword and shield ?
@@mugiwara2697 It clashes a bit in purpose because the mobility of the crossbow is at odds with wanting to stand still and take hits as the tank, but don't let that discourage you! If those playstyles seem fun, give it a go - you might discover something noone else has thought of.
@@ketsandhisgames thought about the fact that sword and shielf give a very good defense combined with the big dps and mobility of the xbow
@@mugiwara2697 Yep, you could be a tanky DPS but to me, I think about it like this: you either tank hits or you dodge them. trying to do both usually clashes.
That **said**, it sounds fun as hell I won't lie!
I think im going sword shield + dagger.
