Was picked up from the airport by my brother in law in one of these mountainous beast when I visited Canada last year from SA. Made a double cab look like a Mr. Bean Mini Cooper. Getting inside it felt like was sitting in a spacious lounge. Its like a luxury bus. Fit for purpose in the farming province of Saskatchewan, pulling water bowsers, motor home, and car carrying trailers.

I own the 1500 version of this as well as a f250, the capability these vehicles offer our farming business is supreme no duelcab ute comes close. Only gripe with the chevy is they use waxed chassis ,its a black wax coating that attracts thick dust and requires maintenance to address surface rust in areas where the coating has been depleted. Can't use lanolin or petroleum based oils on it as it softens the factory coating. We put it over a hoist every 12 months and clean and re-coat with cosmoline and black oxide which is the closest product to the factory coating..

Walkinshaw began converting Silverado 2500 to RHD, back in 2018.

But, the name on the factories is Walkinshaw.
They should be clearly given acknowledgment for what they do, for various manufacturers etc
Walkinshaw is the name that the general public relate to.

In 2018, Walkinshaw opened a large brand new facility in Clayton South.
      Named “ Walkinshaw Park “
Not far from the original HSV premises in Clayton.
At this facility they converted both Ram and Silverado.
In late 2022, all Silverado conversion moved to a brand new facility that Walkinshaw built at Dandenong.

The conventional tow rating on this in the US is 16,000 lbs/7,250 kg. Gooseneck/fifth wheel tow rating is 18,700 lbs/8,480 kg. You wouldn't even notice a trailer that only weighed as much as the maximum towing capacity on a midsize.

Thx for the review. We’re in the market for a HD style truck to be a towing tourer, be it ram or Chevy, with a possible Tundra depending on weight figures once released. Would love to see a tow test for the Chevy at 4t+. Would be great if you could manage that. You mention that you could only Tow 3.5t on NB1, and needed NB2 for above 3.5t are you sure about that?

    • @frankmicallef2839
      @frankmicallef2839 4 місяці тому

The big issue is towing 3.5t or more is the payload at just over 700 kg is very restrictive. Remember if your van is 2.5t then you have to deduct about 250kg from your payload. 500 kg mean 2 people and not much weight in the tray, or 4 people and almost no further weight can be carried. Getting the car registered as nb2 is a lot cheaper than retro fitting it to that. So my advice is in almost all cases if you are towing 2.5 tonnes plus buy it as nb2 speced and you won’t have to worry about your weights again.

Sad we don’t get the capability like the US. The Duramax 2500 can tow up to 8400kgs or 18500lbs. Ours is half that from what I gathered. But then again you don’t need a truck licence in the US. But it makes sense for people here in Australia as 99% of the population haven’t even driven one let alone seen one.

Tow rating in the US is 16,000 lbs/7250kg conventional and 22,500/10,200kg for bed mounted hitch. Then you add the 7,800 lb/3,500kg weight of the truck to get GCM. So roughly 10.75T conventional and 13.7T bed for gooseneck/fifth wheel.
Anyone using a 2500 for more than 16,000 lbs needs psychiatric help. I have run 14K on a Ram 2500 diesel many times with only one issue that was manageable, but would not have been with a lot more weight. They have to report their thoughts etc on the vehicle
They don’t get to keep the vehicle
These Tundra r not necessarily how the final production vehicles will be.

The cars are re-engineered to the point of almost re-manufactured.Also, I'd really love companys like yours to seriously push the biog car builders to start making these factory RHD. They keep saying there is no market for them yet we seem to keep proviing there is but still we are gettting shafted on prices. Evene if you could just make comment in your videos on these stating to the companys that they need tp ull their fingers out and do RHD factory runs also.

    Heres an observation:
    Next to no usb ports.
    No 12v.
    No sunglasses holder,
    Seats are cheap.
Storage bins behind the seats open far too easy, so anything heavy will come out during braking.
    Tiny middle seat arm rest.
Cheap plastic box under the back seat.
You can easily lock yourself out.
    Mirrors are shite.
    HUD is blurred
More alarms then the new ranger
    Ton of body roll.
Honestly they missed an opportunity here, they did the exact stuff with the previous chev models here in aus. Just added a screen and a face lift.
