      @@ralphhowing3473 I glad it helped. I was very shocked when I saw the shaft flopping around in there. A little bit of locktite and it should stay rock solid! Enjoy the build, it is a terrific buggy!

      Yes, I got very lucky and noticed it. It had been running fine and showed no signs of any problems but it it was on the verge of failure.

    Thanks for the heads up! 👍 Thus far I’ve not had issues with the pre built gearboxes in my Kyosho buggies, but like anything there is a potential for something to be missed at the factory.
    I did, regrettably find that my Turbo Scorpion mistakenly came with the roll bars from the regular Scorpion (so not light bucket fixing points). But overall I’ve been very pleased with the KYOSHO kit quality. 👍

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 роки тому

      Yeah, not a thing I thought to check but thought it was worth mentioning especially since new kits should be coming available here soon (I hope). I have not had any issues from the tomahawk so I am hoping it was just a dab day at the factory. That is odd you got a wonky setup in your kit. Overall I am super impressed with their kits and quality. I assume this was just a glitch in manufacturing.

      Yeah it was as close to extreme failure as you can get for sure!! For RTR kits unusually dona once over on them but for parts like this I have not had an issue with before now. I will be double checking them in the future. Thanks for checking in!!!

      Yes, I didn't even think to as I've had no issues from the tomahawk. I will be double checking from now on though! It was almost a really bad day but the little gear is tough and it must have only really gotten loose in the last few minutes of running. Take care!

      Yeah, I was surprised though. I've had no issues with the tomahawk but it goes to show that those kit parts built on Monday mornings and Friday afternoons may not always be 100%!!! I am glad I found it when I did, not an area I would think to check.

    Great info Addam. I just checked mine and it's ok. I had a different problem with the pre assembled diff which I will explain when I get round to doing the build vid. I wish that they wouldn't try to be helpful with the pre-assembled bits and just let us build these things properly. Best wishes mate 🙂

      Thankfully I stopped running when I did, it was about to become really bad! I was surprised to find no indication of thread lock at all on it but may have been a bad day for the fella that assembled it. Almost a really bad day for the fella driving it for sure!

    😁 Dang you must have got the guy that built my tomahawk diff build yours! Good find lucky you did not run it longer or again.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah right! Overall I am impressed with their kits and quality but this one could have gone really bad if I had not stopped when I did! Thankfully the gears only showed a tiny bit of damage and nothing to be concerned about but if this was a normal day of running and not recording I would have run at least two batteries though it and it would not have made it through the second pack for sure. I doubt I would have finished the first one to be honest. It was about to get ugly in there! I will be double checking them in the future for sure. My diff was good and had a decent amount of grease in it. I got the good diff.and you got the good case! Just keep an eye on it and if you feel any play in that cover you know you need to tear it down and thread lock that post in place!

    Threadlock!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhh (that’s me screaming and running away lol) That’s crazy but yeah must be a QC issue. Car looks great though! Hopefully that fixes the issue!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 роки тому

      I know, thread lock can easily be overdone but for a high stress and high vibration part like this it should have been thread locked from the factory. I am just glad I didn't run it any longer than I did. It was about to get real bad in there! I will try not to overly use the thread lock, only where truly needed!!

    Well, didn't that exact thing happen today on my Javelin I finished building today. It wasn't until I realised the problem, that it reminded me of a video I had seen, which was yours. I checked the instructions and it does not mention applying threadlock when assembling that post. It is threadlocked now!!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I am pretty sure when I built the tomahawk it was tight as can be and I haven't had an issue with it. The turbo scorpion was a different thing and that was almost a disaster. I hope you got to it before any damage was done to the gears! I thread locked the heck out of mine. I consider it to be permanent at this point! Seems like an area folks really need to look at on all these kits!!

    Literally just built this kit and while out running a minute ago had the exact same thing happen. Going to throw a little thread lock on that sucker so it stays tight from here on out. Put a Castle 3700kv sensored motor I had extra laying around. Stupid fast, and a little too fast for a car like this. Pulls wheelies easily. Will be perfect for the beach with some paddle tires on it.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  Рік тому

      Yeah, that thing is a ripper for sure! You my have to dial that back and bit for normal driving but yes, on the beach it is going to send some rooster tails!!! I was very glad I figured out something was wrong before it went really wrong. It sound like you did too! The Kyosho cars are geared a bit faster than Tamia and others so yeah you have a speed demon on your hands! Have fun with it and I am glad you didn't trash the gears!

    Hey Addam, great consumer advice there fella and glad you didn’t lose anything. I think it is good practice to check everything over after each run while cleaning and tightening everything up. • @AddamsPlayground

      Yeah because it is not a place I would generally look before running a car. I probably would have noticed the wobbly case but who knows. I am glad it didn't destroy anything! It was very close though!! I gotta really start scrutinizing those prebuilt pieces in the future. Thanks

      I was not into the Kyosho lineup when I was younger. Nobody had one around me so they were just images in magazines. I’ll check it out . Thanks Addam. How long did you run it before it wobbled off? 👍

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 роки тому +1

      It was about 12 minutes total. I filmed in three spots for about 4 minutes each. I noticed it sounded a little louder at the last minute or two of running. But nothing sounded really bad, just slightly louder than when I first went out. I thought there may have been some grass wrapped up in something causing a little extra drag... Nope it was in the self destruct sequence!!!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  Рік тому +1

      I have not had that issue. I have only run it twice now I think so I has not seen too much action. Only issue I had was the shaft for the idler gear come loose at the end of the first run.

    im curious, in general how well have you known products from tamiya to hold up while just doing general bashing? never owned on and not sure if it would be good to invest in one.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 роки тому +1

      For general driving around and having some fun they are great.for light track use and small jumps they do well also. For high track use and bigger constant jumping you are going to start replacing parts but that is quite normal with many kits. For skate parks, huge jumps and general chaos driving I'd get an Arrma or something like that. I think overall tamiya kits get a rep for being delicate and shelf queens but they stand up to a good deal of stuff before breaking. I think they get that stigma because a lot of us are also collectors of the kits and enjoy driving them but also like to have them on display and not all ratty and crunched up! I'd say start with a Neo Fighter or a Plasma Edge as they are on the lower end of price but really good kits. Also pick up a sport tuned motor for it. Let me know if that helps at all and if you have any other questions!
