The P17 isn’t made for an optic (not without modifications). I did get my first one for $199 and my second one for $179 (both purchased online-so add $15 FFL fee and maybe shipping). I’ve found them to be insanely reliable, but all I shoot is Gemtech 42gr, CCI standard, and CCI mini-mag RN. I keep wanting to try the TX22 (and now a Sig P322), but it’s hard to justify since my P17s just run and run-and are smaller. Mags are definitely not as good…I think they might be the weak link to long term longevity, but they are only $15-20 tops.
Top 2 reasons to carry a .22 1. You won’t go deaf eventually. 2. It’s basically a upgraded bb gun so while you’re less likely to kill the target, getting shot with it HURTS so they will get away from you asap.
2022...on line 170.00 and up. Keltec has since added a 3D part to address the problem with the first ones sold. Going price seems to be around 199.00 now. Mine eats every thing. Only starts to jam up after around 400 rounds without cleaning.
My KelTec P17 has been lights out since the first shot. I have had zero FTE’s or FTF’s since purchasing the gun. I will let you know that I shoot only CCI mini mags and Aguilla super high velocity 22LR ammo so I don’t know if my pistol would have issues with the cheaper bulk ammo.
The Kel Tec have half the weight, same barrel length, same capacity in a much shorter package not discussion here, in theory p17 is much better. Only thing can argue for the Taurus side is reabilaty and quality but only time will tell that.
I just grabbed a p17 from Palmetto State Armory for $159. Taurus ain't beating that price, ya dig..😊

Only aim for the head and chest.
Exactly my dad told me this old man back in the day would carry a smith and Wesson 22lr revolver they try to mug him and killed the the muger
22lr is absolutely deadly and should be viewed as such.

I was gonna get a taurus tx22 when they first came out but couldn't find one locally. I ended up with a sw compact 22 lr which is also great.
I’ll check one of those out
I just purchased a P17 for $199.00
Good comparison. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Keltec, not Kaltec

Taurus tx22 hard to beat for all that it does...
The cheapest I found on line is around $250 in 2023.
