Billie, thank you for this interview. Dr Strawn’s comment about Norwegian immigrants avoiding knitting “peasant” sweaters took me down my own personal rabbit hole. Now I’m considering writing a memoir to record what I remember of their experiences, and how we integrated into American culture without losing cultural association with Portugal. Thank you!
@@ShowandTellknitting The American melting pot had many variations. My first cousins don’t have my experience because their parents didn’t marry Portuguese folks. The traditions usually follow the mothers, in my experience. Their dads, my uncles, married women of Italian and Spanish descent, and both aunts were a generation removed from immigration, born in the US. Both of my parents were immigrants, joining their parents here when they were teens. We have so many more Portuguese connections than my cousins do.
@@daliamcclintock1491 This is why I love doing genealogy....see the migration of families and who they married and learn the family folklore. I can tell there's a book in you. Go for it! (Even if you have to self-publish as I did.)
Hi, Billie. I, too, love the Art Deco era, the fashions, and especially the knitwear. I’m sure you have seen it, but just in case you haven’t, you should watch Mapp & Lucia, with Geraldine, McEwen, Prunella Scales, and Nigel Hawthorne. You would LOVE all of the costumes/fashion. It’s a very entertaining PBS series, very well done.
Thanks to my friend, Deborah, who chose one for me as a birthday gift, I now have my own copy! Others can get their own through the link in the show notes.
Loved this interview! I have had her book for several years and still re-read ! She is the true instigator of "rabbit hole"!
Thanks. Glad you liked it.
Another fascinating interview. Dr Susan has such a soft and gentle voice, so easy to listen to besides all her wonderful stories and knowledge.
I can't tell you how much it means to me to get this kind of feedback. Thanks, Colette.
Very interesting talk! I will have to listen again, so much good information! 😊❤ I love vintage photos too.
The book is full of all kinds of other vintage stuff....posters, ads. see link in show notes.
What a great interview! Thank you so much Billie and Susan for sharing this information with us.
Aha! Now you see why I wondered if your ears were burning.
Great interview!!! Thank you very much
Thanks ever so much. Glad you stayed all the way through. It was a long one!

Wouldn't that be special? (It's the second time this week this Norwegian comment has come up in conversation! It was noteworthy, wasn't it?)
