This dungeon had my heart aching the whole way. I was so scared for every character involved in the battle, and I really felt the weight of all these nations on my shoulders. We got to know each and every one of the flags standing on your side for two (if you count 1.0) full games and two expansions, and this is where all your actions (and your comrade's) collide into a freakin world war. I was thinking "how did it come to this" all the way through the cutscenes. I was also very scared of Black Rose since I played the quests earlier in the expansion and already knew it's effects. Didn't help that half the scions were missing and Alisaie was incredibly scared. They did an absolutely outstanding job at making me scared of the consequences of a war.

I noticed different NPCs use their job LB on the mob, and when it's Lyse she freakin says "this one's for you, Papalymo." YEAH LIKE I HAVENT BEEN HURT ENOUGH THANKS SQUARE ENIX.

I do really like how this theme starts off with a remix of Stormblood, and then shifts into the Ala Mhigan National Anthem and then into the Garlean Empire Theme. Caps off Stormblood, is fitting for both factions in the battle and also shows the transition of focus from Ala Mhigo to Ilsabard/Garlemald.
Seeing words Aymeric and giraffe in so close proximity with each other cracked me up. Though dayum our boy Ser Aymeric has really hawt voice and looks tho.
Loved the mix of Stormblood/His Reach mixed in for Doma/Ala Mhigo contrasted against the Garlean theme. Stormblood is loud and vibrant for the triumph, while His Reach is somber. Garlean is sinister and elusive. Most of all, I loved the follow-up part where the Alliance tries to hold-off against Zenos until you the WoL comes. I love those messages: “the WoL has left the base”, “the WoL is X yalms away”, “the WoL is almost there!” I loved the reverse of fighting, waiting for ME to arrive. It really makes you understand the perspective (and possibly crutch) that others have when you’re using 4 skills and can’t wait to get your crystal empowered ass over there. At the same time, it also shows how dire situations are and how much we’re needed over there. HW was great! Stormblood was (also) awesome!
Garlean soldiers para-dropping into the trenches, gunships blazing overhead, artillery barrages, mechanical monstrosities rolling in to kill you.... I thought i was playing a fantasy game... but somehow ended up in a world war 2 game.... and it's GREAT! XD
Oddly enough this whole dungeon made me emotional. When I saw Kann-E-Senna shield us? I knew this shit was real, felt real, I pressed those buttons with the emotion connected to my character slicing their army down. Feeling the NPCs emotions, seeing them work with us, using Limit break. Then seeing Lyse and Aymeric... this is an experience i'll never forget. I personally maxed my rotation as hard as I could. I wanted to slaughter the double twins; thinking they were bad bitches. Pft, I beat their ass like I did to Luvia back in ARR via castrum meridium.

I love this dungeon. After all the events leading up to it, you know that the war against the Empire is reaching its climax and potential end. When the WoL strike force enters the battlefield, the Alliance stands a chance of carving a path to victory.
Or a nameless Elezen with a katana who keeps calling you his friend Edit: At least you can get Raubhan as a DPS if you Duty Support Ala Mhigo as a tank or healer.
I remember this first time I did this dungeon, one of my party members mentioned how this looked like a WW1 battle, and another asked “oh where’s WW (Wonder Woman)?”. Another member said “screw her, where’s seven nation army (battlefield 1 trailer music)?”, and the other guy said “yes please”. We stopped in the middle of the dungeon and didn’t move for like 3 minutes cause we laughing so hard. It’s things like that that make this game worth it.
I was expecting Zenos-dibus as the final boss, honestly, but I suppose it'd be silly to blow their load by having us beat a major villain in a dungeon so early. He'll probably be a solo duty, though, given the Shadowbringers trailer. That said, I do like how Stormblood starts and ends with a dungeon where you fight along NPCs.
Great theme, excellent dungeon. Theme lacks a bit on loop since the track is short, to be fair. They really nail it with these end-of-expansion dungeons. Keeper was good, Baelsar's Wall was good, Ghimlyt is good. I hope they don't start getting SLOPPEH! (Sorry. Good ol memes from Baelsar's Wall.)
I am kind of wondering who'll Trust this with us when SE brings out Duty Support for Stormblood. My guess is nameless NPCs since the Scions at this point are all incapacitated, and the Alliance leaders all have their own parts to play in the dungeon.
And here we are now a few years later... almost at the very end of Shadowbringers and the last dungeon of the expansion. What a journey it has been, indeed. Time surely flies by.
This has been one of the single largest WHAMS of my FFXIV experience to date, also going into some kind of heavy spoilers for Shadowbrings and Endwalker below the "read more" so y'all been warned Okay then, so first off AMAZING track, absolutely 100/10 in terms of Soken just knocking it out of the park like usual... but what really sets this apart is the build-up, and also after having played Shadowbringers going back to this and realizing that, within the first minute there is a HUGE sense of foreboding with the piano version of Stormblood's motif... we know what happens almost immediately (and yes I say almost immediately, because gameplay-wise you have forever between Stormblood and Shadowbringers to do whatever, but story-wise that isn't the case; we got sent to the First JUST IN THE NICK OF TIME to prevent the Eight Umbral Calamity) after this, which is also HEAVILY alluded to with Varis zos Galvus's reactions in the ending scenes, but it doesn't really actually hit home until at least one full expansion later... when we realize that, there is now at least one timeline where the bad guys basically one; Black Rose was unleashed, an Eight Umbral Calamity happened, THE WARRIOR OF LIGHT FUCKING DIED and -- if you also played Endwalker -- you also come to realize just how FUCKED this timeline is as part of the aftermath of that outcome because then you realize there really isn't anyone who can come as close to stopping Fandaniel / Meteion / etc. as our Warrior of Light did. I did another run solo the other week and just sat there listening to this theme and looking around at the scenery for a solid five minutes at least... the term "grimdark" doesn't do justice to the sheer storytelling MASTERPIECE that is this whole area
There are no words for how epic I felt in the final battle against Annia and Julia. I was the tank and the healer had bit it early on in their fight, didn't see the aoe that killed her and I wasn't able to warn her in time. Then it was just me and the dps, a dragoon and a bard, we lasted as long as we could without the healer, but they both eventually bit it to and it was just me against the bosses. The first sister wasn't defeated yet so I did pretty much the whole battle myself. And you know what? Thanks to Clemency and HG I lasted, right up to the dps check at the end. I killed one sister but couldn't defeat the other in time, and that was when I finally bit it as well to the instadeath mechanic. I came out of there stunned and proud I had lasted alone as long as I did, and shaking like a leaf but so overwhelmingly epic feeling
Tiniel Cerulis Had that happen when I ran it for the first time. Healer said they had to go afk so stopped moving but Hien rushes ahead along with one of our dps and freaked out not knowing if I should follow or wait for the healer lol
Why do the piano notes in all these themes hit so hard?! I really want to know from a composer/musician. Even Ysalye's theme just hits so hard in her final battle. Thank you Soken!
This dungeon was the only dungeon thus far that actually legit scared me. The picture looks like something from final fantasy type zero and the music although amazing and sad made me even more scared.

It starts off with the piano. It plays several times, namely after the discussion with the imperial king when all the alliances come together for peace. Halp!

I dunno why but this was the first dungeon and part of the story that I felt everything was on the line. Everything here just felt great and epic better than the prelude to endwalker I felt.
This theme is AMAZING and is called 'A Pall Most Murderous' and drops from here. I've yet to see the damn thing so I simply brought it for a reasonably low price. (I really needed it, okay? Loved it since the trailer debut)
why couldn't cm, prae, and the wall be this fun? i had a BLAST doing this dungeon. the final boss fight to this was just way to fun. almost like watching combat based cirque de solia (sp?) with how the girls moved. Poetry in motion.
You know, if the Eorzean weren’t able to use all sorts of wild magic powers and martial abilities then the Garleans probably would have absolutely slaughtered us all the way back in ARR
That's kinda of the point. The Garleans, despite being the most technologically advanced nation, are at a HUGE disadvantage simply because they can't use magic and even then they're a huge threat. Imagine if the garleans could use magic. Fucking terrifiying.

This dungeon was so incredibly epic. It's just so disappointing that this was just a one off fight with the Empire and not the first battle of what would be all out war between the Imperials and the Eorzea Alliance. That would have made for a killer expansion. Instead we're all falling asleep. Literally. =(
If they put Thancred in Smash I wouldn't mind this stage being in Smash as well. Having the alliance forces fighting the Garleans in the background would be awesome.
I loved the story, the music, the tone, the visuals... Everything but the dungeon itself. It was underwhelming and unsatisfying for being the "final" SB dungeon, in my opinion
honestly the only sastifying dungeon per 4.x series is the dungeon that tide to the 4 lords story lol. Hells' Lid Music and /specially the lava zone/ was a blast. And IMO the Swallow Compass is overall my fav Dungeon per entire Stormblood.

This Dungeon encapsulates Stormblood in the same way The Final Steps of Faith encapsulated Heavensward, masterfully crafted.
Dungeons where your NPC allies join you always give me the most puzzling mix of adrenaline and FEELS.
It feels really good having the friends you made along the way right there with you

My only disappointment is that while we got to fight beside some of the leaders, we didn't get to fight beside the Bull of Ala Mhigo, or the Admiral.

I'm expecting Zenos more to be in line with Nidhogg in HW - an early dungeon final boss, followed by a trial near the end of the expansion.

I dunno why but this was the first dungeon and part of the story that I felt everything was on the line. Everything here just felt great and epic better than the prelude to endwalker I felt.
2 months late but the orchestration roll for this jsut dropped for me; the song is called A Pall Most Murderous
This theme is AMAZING and is called 'A Pall Most Murderous' and drops from here. I've yet to see the damn thing so I simply brought it for a reasonably low price. (I really needed it, okay? Loved it since the trailer debut)
This is one of the best dungeon themes in the game.

why couldn't cm, prae, and the wall be this fun? i had a BLAST doing this dungeon. the final boss fight to this was just way to fun.

I looked up what Pall means and it says it's a cloth spread over a coffin and/or a dark cloud of smoke or dust.
You know, if the Eorzean weren’t able to use all sorts of wild magic powers and martial abilities then the Garleans probably would have absolutely slaughtered us all the way back in ARR
That's kinda of the point. The Garleans, despite being the most technologically advanced nation, are at a HUGE disadvantage simply because they can't use magic and even then they're a huge threat. Imagine if the garleans could use magic. Fucking terrifiying.

It's all I get from Expert and I couldn't be happier.
This dungeon was so incredibly epic. It's just so disappointing that this was just a one off fight with the Empire and not the first battle of what would be all out war between the Imperials and the Eorzea Alliance. That would have made for a killer expansion. Instead we're all falling asleep. Literally. =(
If they put Thancred in Smash I wouldn't mind this stage being in Smash as well. Having the alliance forces fighting the Garleans in the background would be awesome.
I loved the story, the music, the tone, the visuals... Everything but the dungeon itself. It was underwhelming and unsatisfying for being the "final" SB dungeon, in my opinion
Probably saving ending for a trial. Like they did for ARR stepping faith.
Honestly all the final patch dungeons are pretty underwhelming, the real climax is usually the first max level dungeon
honestly the only sastifying dungeon per 4.x series is the dungeon that tide to the 4 lords story lol.
Hells' Lid Music and /specially the lava zone/ was a blast.
And IMO the Swallow Compass is overall my fav Dungeon per entire Stormblood.

Me too. But the structure of this piece is way better. Makes sense instead of just throwing the Stormblood theme in there.
