I'm very fascinated by onmyodo, so this fight is one of my favorites in the game. His design is based on the garb that onmyoji wore. Kuji-kiri is a real life principle of onmyodo (each line represents a different aspect, and the grid is supposed to bring power and balance). It was said that they were able to summon guardians to help them, called Shiki. Paper dolls were used like a connection between them and the Shiki, which is why when Seiryu summons the adds, they burst from paper dolls. I just really love this fight.
One of the wheels says, "WELCOME TO DIE!" Then on the second appearance says, "WELCOME BACK TO DIE!" NA writing team got their classic meme game on point.
I think one of my favourite things of this fight is a reference to Mulan's 'Make a Man Out Of You.' The Snake-wave attack is called Coursing River and if you get hit into the water it's followed up by 'Great Typhoon.' Cannot help but sing "You must be swift as the coursing river, with all the force of a great typhoon~"
This theme strikes to me as the weirdest of the auspice themes; the instruments sound almost like "cheerful," for the lack of better word. Yet somehow it works, and it grows on me whenever I listen to it.
It really irks me that people feel like there needs to be some "validation" to what is considered a good song these days. Just because a lot of the boss music in this game tends to have lyrics or what have you doesnt mean we cant enjoy some simple variety every now and then. This song slaps and I enjoy having these kind of songs every now and then in this soundtrack. Stop calling it "lazy" or "not fitting" to the fight. The song is still great.
Stormblood just gets the short end of the stick because it barely wasnt a “masterpiece”. I loved stormblood even for all its all its flaws. This song reminds me of how much i loved stormblood cuz man this one slapped.
It seems that in the collective subconscious, music with vocal = better. People are so brainwashed by mainstream music, that they cannot enjoy more ambient songs or instumentals
Yeah as disappointed as I am about the lack of lyrics, the music is still fantastic and it works with just how much is going on throughout the fight with all the Shiki mechanics
Finished Four Lords quests and loved all of them but Seiryu had the best first time experience. This song really got me more than Byakko and Suzaku's... Maybe because this song feels kinda nostalgic for me... Looks like a game song with Mario Kart, Touhou and Ragnarok Online vibe (which was big part of my childhood) from about 8 years ago...? Died twice in my first run... once in some of these parts (0:24, 1:54, or 3:10) because was jamming so hard and other randomly getting pancake'd by that giant thing. (even with friends telling what to do in voice chat) It was amazingly fun.
I see so many comments saying this reminds them of other games and I can seriously hear all of the references lol I always thought the flutes in the beginning sound like Kazhams theme from XI I think we can conclude that soken played all of the games we have played over the years
This style of music easily reminds me of Saga Frontier 2. No seriously, listen to Feldschlacht, and you'll see what I mean. This shit's eerily similar to the style. Then again they're both Squeenix games-- but still! Good song, tenoouttaten, would fight the snek again.
deiii I enjoy both and like when they don’t just make all of them vocal for the sake of it. Mostly like the lyric ones since some of them give the boss more character with the lyrics giving insight to their behavior like Sophia, the boss taunting you like Sepheroth, or it being a chant from their worshipers to pray for your demise like Titan and Leviathan. Granted the SE music team is too good to have any legitimate flops of a song so lyrics or no will always be jamming!
Man it just really depends on how the vocals are mixed. Soken is amazing but he makes some weird mixing decisions sometimes. Like Byakko and Suzaku I love, but Tsukuyomi has instrumental fan versions that kill the original in my opinion.
zoso279 yeah I think both are good. There are definitely some bosses where the lyrics add a lot like with Sophia and even the other two lords where it does explain their motivations and stuff. Meanwhile Seiryu’s is super straightforward so he doesn’t really need explaining from lyrics or anything
I miss tracks like this without lyrics tbh. It reminds me off the old FF games. I remember when lyrics or that "epic opera sound" were specifically part of the final boss. It made them feel more special. Beginning with Sephiroth, it was something that became a lot more popular with Jecht in FFX and kind of became a normal thing in FFXIII in FFXIV. I'm actually hoping we get more songs like this in ShB.
This is good, even if it isn't quite as good as Suzaku's theme I'll definitely look forward to hearing it while farming for his katana and the dog though

Four Lords was such a fun, memey, fourth wall breaking adventure. We needed this after dealing with Zenos. Shit got heavy.
I didn't expect Seiryu to be such a party animal

@@stellaacevedo5633 dragon drift way from mk8
Part of this sounds like it would be on a Touhou game
It does, actually. Almost reminds me of the one Kasen remix that was in Gensou Wanderer. Particularly the section from 1:03 to 1:29.
Glad I wasnt the only one who thought certain bits of this music could fit right in Touhou!
The lack of lyrics only seemed to intensify the frantic feel of this trial, in my opinion.
Thank you. Someone that gets it.
Yeah as disappointed as I am about the lack of lyrics, the music is still fantastic and it works with just how much is going on throughout the fight with all the Shiki mechanics
I agree.
This theme has definitely grown on me since its initial release. Didn't care for it at all at first but these days I listen to it pretty often...
I prefer no lyrics usually.

whops could hear the anual 4 lords (or most notably, Byakko's) theme at 0:39 :o
i liked how they use the plucking instrument for this melody
