This is interesting because I used to be an Operations Specialist. The DRT was very realistic but we used a separate but similar plotting table for ASW called the NC-2 that allowed more contacts to be projected on it in addition to own ship. Also, the function of what they're calling an "OSC" was accomplished with a paper graph called a Maneuvering Board that allowed you to plot and calculate how to maneuver to position your ship where you wanted it in relation to another unit. I imagine that would have been too complicated and time consuming for smooth gameplay in a computer game.

This is indeed interesting. But yes, you're right, we had to implement solutions in the game that, while still realistic, provide a comfortable and enjoyable gaming experience.

I love it. But, what about watchmen? No reports in CIC from sailors on lookout post?

are there manuals or tutorials more in detail? the procedures look too complicated at first glance.
Also make it multiplayer, with different people in different stations (on both sides, and different submarines or fleet vessels), so that efficient communication, team working, and obeying /disobeying hierarchy decissions, could the key for success.
This would be be EPIC ;)
