Destroyer: The U-Boat Hunter is an innovative, cross-genre destroyer simulation which truthfully depicts the struggle of escort groups protecting allied convoys against German U-boats during the Battle of the Atlantic. Take full control of a Fletcher-class destroyer, using authentic instruments and attack procedures to fully experience the full spectrum of anti-submarine warfare.
Destroyer combines the thrill of commanding an anti-submarine warship with the tactical challenge of managing a whole escort group protecting convoys against relentless wolfpacks. The game goes to great lengths to appeal to fans of realism and immersion, at the same time offering a great experience for beginners in the genre as well.
Whether a military sim veteran or a fledgling captain, immerse yourself in a cinematic naval warfare experience and feel the thrill of the hunt!

03:40 Gameplay - Ігри
I am pretty sure that the "lone merchant ship" is actually a German submarine tender, hence it being unflagged and also the reason why the mission brief called you to be alert for nearby submarines.
I had the same thought
I was actually thinking camouflaged raider
Well, as a submarine tender she’d try to stay out of air coverage - especially and this clearly is within easy air cover from the US. As a raider she’d not be drawing attention like that - WW1 had shown commerce raiders and auxiliary merchant cruisers were a force to be reckoned with but not a match to a warship (see HMS Rawalpindi; their initial salvo managed to scratch paint with one shell as they were rather close … but that was it).
On the other hand, if it IS a raider, do not get too close … Kormoran and Sydney say hi!
As to nearby submarines - this is pretty early in the war (for the USA), when there was no blackout, all navigation lights running as if it was peacetime, Miami offering 6 miles of bright lighting and neon outlining any and every vessel hugging the coastline and any anti-submarine patrolling was so regular you could set your watch by it.
From January 1942 the US east cost offered the Second Happy Times for the U-boats with rich pickings and no meaningful defense. In the first half of 1942, more than 360 ships (and at least 129 of them tankers) were sunk on the coast from Canada to the Caribbean, totalling around 2,250,000 gross tons. 2 per day, every day, on average. So yes, beware of submarines.
Note there were never more than 6 U-Boats there at any one time. Now imagine there had been 20 or 30 …
Thanks for mentioning the lack of blackout protocols. One hell of an oversight, there. @@advorak8529
Games like this and Silent Hunter 3 remind me how advanced (and complex) the analog "computers" were back in WWII. Every device was built to serve a single function to make it all come together.
And they had in some cases a dozen people to work them.
this game seem's like it is randomly generated though
As a current Midshipman at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, which was originally made to help resupply the Merchant fleet with trained crew during the war (in fact the Academy lost 142 Midshipmen During the war while doing their sea terms.) I am glad to see you in a carrer protecting the merchants instead of sinking them.

@@bobjoe4888 how did that football game go for you guys?
@@thisisthehandlenow how'd the last several soccer and hockey games go for you?
@@bobjoe4888 how did Brazilian Ju Jitzu and Offshore Sailing go for you?

Reminds me of the old old Destroyer Command game. What made that game especially fun was that you could play against Silent Hunter 2 players online.
Dangerous Waters. Submarine, destroyer, helicopter and patrol aircraft with sonobuoys (first used in 1943, believe it or not!) and torpedoes to drop. It’s a bit later (nuclear submarines), but …
Dam I didn't know that.
@@advorak8529Air dropped homing torpedoes (Fido) were also introduced in 1943.
Yes only thanks to Neal & the subsim comminuity Ubi originally used a plug in for multiplayer and the company’s it was licensed friom (Sony I think) stopped the service at the last minute before the game’s release. Neal & crew paid for an external developer to create an alternate DiectX based MP solution.
@@majorborngusfluunduch8694 Within months of the German acoustic torpedo, yes.
But you need to drop it close enough to hear the sub. Limited speed, limited range. (A U-Boat could outrun one on the surface with ease, but that was not known to German sub captains.) and having other ordnance could make the try foolish.) It’s safe against surface vessels by having a minimum depth it will not rise above.
So you need to “catch” a sub by other methods. And while a ship is not endangered by a Mark 24 “mine”, the weapon goes for the loudest sounds. So having a ship with ASDIC to find the sub is not gonna work well.
So you need sonobuoys or MAD detectors.
My grandfather served aboard two such Flower-class corvettes. He spent over two years at sea, defending convoys and winning the Battle of the Atlantic. Lovely to see them here.
Much respect to all those that served on the flowers, presume you are a fan of "The Cruel Sea", much prefer that to Greyhound.
@Wolfpack, can you make a video elaborating how the intruments work, what they indicate, what to look for and how you use them?
This looks very interesting and I have some guesses what's happening technically, but an explanation would be greatly appreciated.
I agree. 😊
I'd love to see this game expand with options for more than just a fletcher class in the Atlantic. Imagine how awesome it would be to be part of Taffy 3 during the battle of Leyte Gulf.
I didnt really enjoy watching this game before but damn, that was very entertaining! Exited to see more of this series
That intro gave me literal goosebumps. Please never stop with the cinematics, they're incredibly entertaining
The music is from silent hunter 4 soundtrack
Keep up the amazing work! I love the history with the gameplay, plus seeing an HMCS was a nice treat for a Canadian
As a Canadian too, I was happy that the Royal Canadian Navy got some love in a game 😄
Excited to sail with you, Captain!
This game would make a great movie, showing the destroyer tracking subs and the men in the subs, what they all went through. Yes, a bit like Das Boat.
Wp345, you are very lucky none of the subs fired a surface running , circulating torp.
The 1957 movie "The Enemy Below" starring Robert Mitchum may be what you want to see.
Can't edit...No convoy in the movie, but some good ASW action.
@@Urugami45 or the movie Greyhound with Tom Hanks
I really enjoyed this one, Well done. Also the speed at which you reacted to the conditions; using your instruments and chart plotting, while simultaneously giving orders to your airsupport and processing the information from your crew, Was very impressive.
As much as i love being the hunter i love hunting the hunter. Great to see this.
I'm liking the look of this game. How about a quick and easy tutorial on some of the equipment and how to use them?
I need to do that
@@Wolfpack345 Yes please because I have no idea what is happening or what is TRR, OSC and the likes.
@@Wolfpack345Seconded, thirded?
Looking forward to more excitement!
@Wolfpack345 Yes please 😊❤😊
Also yes.
The sound powered telephone chatter is so well done!
Agreed!
Really looking forward to this series! Always loved your previous videos of this game.
Thank you so much! I appreciate the support! More of this to come :)
I’m excited to See what this series brings you know we’re along with you Captain let’s Sail!
Ramming was a recommended tactic - I think that you might have the means of doing so!
I like the way you can see and control the ship as if you was really their on the Bridge rather than from a third person view. I know very little about this game if you can sail from port to port like you can in Silent Hunter that would make this game perfect. I've only seen this Game on You Tube and Seeing you play this game means it can't be bad because all your videos are great and are worthy of little films in themselves very talented keep up the good work
As a Newfoundlander, it’s pronounced more like Newfinland, there’s a common saying “ understand, Newfinland” but I find it more confusing. Love the videos keep up the good work
Thanks for the correction
Lucky you, a Fletcher-class destroyer. They should have started you with a Clemson-class. :)
Incredible! Love your content man. I watch every single silent hunter and dotmod video you post, and now you bless me with this? thank you!
Thank you!!
Edge of my seat on these depth charge runs. Good job on the episode!
Been looking forward to this as an ongoing campaign for ages. Glad to see it's finally here!
The crew running around looks really funky but all in all looks like a great game so far
Nice, I've been waiting for this. I really like having the hit detection on the camera. It really helps because it was very hard to tell if you were doing damage on near miss/close hits.
Nice looking forward to this series!
Excited to see the fresh type of mission! Destroyers of WW2 was the true workhorse of the Navy. People think the cool battleship/cruisers or stealthy subs but who actually covered the actual vast ocean of the world? Destroyers. Specially Fletcher class had all the virtue of the destroyer for the era.
Always love when a new series gets going! Keep up the great work!
this and cold waters are my favourite of your series. MORE PLEASE!
Been waiting for you to play this! Not only are you really entertaining, I also learn a tonne watching. Looking forward to more of this
New series, exciting!
Yup, this kicked ass. Can't wait for more of this career.
Great episode! What a wonderful way to start a new series.
Ohhh the reverse scenario! Love it. Normally I'm all about the UBoat but now, crack those shells! 😁
Really looking forward to this series.
I recently watched Greyhound, so this is a fitting series to start! Good hunting!
Happy to see the game get a full campaign now, and VERY interesting to see you who typically captains subs to now going on the defensive and hunting them.
Keep the damage popups for sure
I can already see this being an epic series
Great episode. Thanks for doing these. Really enjoyed it
Epic start, enjoy your commanding as always!
I would love to see more of this! Very entertaining!!!!
Very cool campaign. Looking forward to the next one!
Nice! I’ve been looking forward to a series with this game.
Wonder if the modding community will permit the swapping of USN for RN and RCN, the people who carried out the VAST majority of North Atlantic escort work.
The devs went with the Flecher as it offers a good platform for future expansion to different theaters. The game Wolfpack is working on a playable Flower Class.
Great video, this will be a fantastic series!!
Does the crew gain experience and get better at sonar and the like?
Very cool...gonna be awesome watching you blast U-Boats out of the water!
Keep em coming!!!!
I’ve really been wanting to see this on the channel ever since you did your first couple videos of this game. I’d really love to see more of this.
at last the much anticipeted Destroyer commander career! Smooth Sea Captain!
Love your videos mate, how you make it like a story... I'm 60 and i love these games, but find im too busy to invest time in them and play them well, so its very enjoyable watching other people play who know what they're doing. Good work.
Love this series can’t wait to see what’s to come
Just imagine crossplay compatibility between this game and Uboot! i remember when SIlent hunter 2 was cokpatible with destroyer command, actually got to play it for a while in the early 2000s, was very buggy but really cool.
Haha. Still got my dungarees in my bag. 92-98. Intersting times.I love watching your game plays. Always such great stories.
This looks fantastic, can’t wait for the next one
This gameplay makes me want to watch Greyhound again
Fantastic video. You deserve a commendation Sir!
A great start. Thanks
Looking forward to viewing more episodes thanks
22:15 “An extra ration of rum for each man!”
Lookin forward to the next! Thx Wolfpack
That opening 3 munutes was a swell movie setup 👌
This is very much a step in the right direction, congrats to the devs.
interesting the choice of using a Fletcher class for this, the Fletcher's were pretty rare for Convoy Duty as they were complete overkill for the task because they were actual Fleet Destroyers designed to go toe-to-toe with the Japanese navy. an Evart's class or PC-461 would be much more accurate
Not sure if its simulated but wouldn't be surprised; Might be worth reading up on the Williamson maneuver which allows you to return to your reciprocal course. Put the helm over opposite to your final turn to move the pivot point of the vessel aft...when the vessel is 60 degrees off your initial course put the helm hard over to the opposite side. Midships rudder when approx 20 deg off final course more or less depending on rate of turn. You will be on the same track but in reverse. Its a maneuver usually used for recovering people from the sea and was used during world war two. Keep up the content.
I remember seeing the demo for this and hearing the developer talk about his love of destroyers. Gotta say I want to join this stress-fest...
Excellent as always!!
love the music in the starting cutscene... brings back memories of Silent Hunter 4
Personal opinion, you should disable the camera view of the sub. WW2 DD’s didn’t have that so if you want to make this realistic like your SH3 games, you shouldn’t know when it really been sunk or if they are just sending up oil slicks to throw you off.
Hell yea, lets go Wolf, the Pack is ready!
Amazing! must have more!
More to come!
A great run as always Captain!
Looks interesting. Have been considering this game. Will watuch your playthrough with interest.
The u-boat commanders were both pretty dumb attacking in daylight and from the same direction as well as staying in on the surface so long but this was basically the tutorial. Hopefully the AI won't be so dumb during campaign. Hopefully also later u-boats will be equipped with BOLD which will test your interpretation on the data challenging you to work out which is real and which is the decoy.
It would be great if they developed a U-boat version and allow you to tie the games together for pvp battles.
Hope that this game gets the flower class at some point
How does it feel to be on the opposite side of the periscope, defending convoys from U-boats for a change?? Haha.
Man I wish the game had coop and you could walk around the ship like wolfpack, maybe one day
I've been waiting for this. Thanks for the great immersive content!
Glad you enjoy it!
@@Wolfpack345 well done captain!
And so ends 'the Happy Time' for the wolf packs.
Awesome video as always
The walking animation on the cut scenes is hilarious
Excellent new series!
thank you , i enjoyed it
This is a game where if the player knows what they are doing, it is really entertaining to watch.
Really like this game even though I am on easy mode I am not a sub hunter ..lol I totally stuff the attacks up for some reason.. learning a lot by watching others. Thanks for the video.
This is a good game that will be great after a few tweaks. We will enjoy watching your career, skipper
I liked the little sub box, watching how close your depth charges were getting to the subs.
Haven't a clue what half of the screens are displaying but it looks full power action all the way, ithink ill tag along and watch it!
This was a fun video.
This is my favorite simulation to date.
Thank you good sir for an excellent content. Please, proceed with this career! :)
Yay new series!
I didn't think I'd enjoy the surface warfare component of sub stuff at first, but this was actually a lot of fun :)
Like John Wayne said in "In Harm's Way", you did a full job on those subs! Looking forward to seeing where this series goes! Tbh, by the end of the video I was sorry it was only the first episode!
Oil slick is a old trick! This is a old Submariner tactic! You may have forced him to try and dodge out of this attack.
SH4 intro music 😮 Now that's a blast from the past!
Damn, getting assigned to a Fletcher class for your first commission must have been like winning the lottery at the time.
This was awesome.
Well this is fun as I’m also currently watching your SH3 type IX career from a few years ago we’re you’re the Uboat terrorizing that area!
What a great immersive game.
