This man does it all; he hunts the submarines in destroyers and destroyer leaders, and he kites those same destroyers and destroyer leaders while hungering for the transports they so jealously guard. It's so cool to see him switch perspectives, from the canny U-boat zigging and zagging below the waves, to the patient destroyer, laying patterns of depth charges hoping to force the wily predator below to surface.
Those charges later in the game were detonating CLOSE-ABORD the sub. Seemed to be all around the target for no reported slick, or debris? Great shooting job Skipper!
going too fast. General tactic was to approach at a slower speed to get the best pattern possible, and flank speed after the pattern was dispersed to reacquire the contact. He did the opposite.
If anyone is wondering what 'Wake on left cut' means, from what I can figure out the sonarman is basically telling you which way the sub is going. The way this works is that once the sonar detects a contact, the operator aims the sonar transducer to the left and right of the contact and listens for when the echos stop, this allows him to determine a more accurate bearing. These readings are called left or right cuts. While doing this, he can also hear the noise from the sub's propellers and wake, and possibly also weak echos created when sonar pings pass through the disturbed water behind the sub. An experienced operator can determine which 'cut' these sounds are stronger on, giving an idea of where the sub is going. If the wake is on the left cut, the sub is moving towards the right of its current bearing.
You know, you can go to flank speed and have one if the other vessels relay the ASDIC results to you - helpfully already converted to you as the zero point? Also you might want to consider the lead time for those 30s and 50s shots - gotta drop where the sub will be in half a minute. At exactly 4 knots she makes exactly 400 yards in 3 minutes, that is 67 yards in 30s and 110 yards in 50s. At max speed (almost 8 knots) double the distances. We are not even talking about the limited capability of ASDIC - especially early ASDIC - to look downwards, if you have no buddy tracking the sub for you. There’s be no 3 yards, especially with deep diving subs, it’d be more like losing the sub 1000 yards …
I recently recommended this to a recently retired Lt. Commander who’s piloted ships and is certified in Anti-Submarine warfare. He turned down the opportunity to command a cruiser (I think) with a commander rank and retired to civilian life. He really seems like a stand-up guy. Who knows, this might scratch his itch and keep him from asking, “What if?”
I have a feeling the sub graphic when you fire depth charges does not line up exactly with the hitbox because more damage seemed to be taken on runs that looked not as good. Still an amazingly fun game
if you slowed down before dropping instead of rushing in like a bull at a gate to keep sonar on contact and drop DB and then slow so you can back over him as he cant go as fast as you can and drop another pattern instead of doing the long turn around, loosing contact and then having to reaquire
Damn that was intense ! Those moment of silence like at 22:00 are unbearable after an attack and hoping that you got him ! Can wait to see more of this game
Been watching you play this game, figured, give it a go. Played many sims in my day... You make it look easy in your game plays, seriously, you make it look like a piece of cake. I have tried the small battle over and over, and its just a shooting gallery for the U-Boats. For me, without the auto updating DRT and TRR etc... this game would literally be unplayable. As it stands now, I feel like me being there is just amusement for the U-Boat captains rather than the hinderance I should be. Never had a new game and felt to useless right at the go!
Did you hear that they found a depth charge still on the rack on the Samuel B Roberts 4 miles down in the Pacific. Edit Well may not be new news but it's new news to me.
Looking forward to when the devs introduce uboat decoys and the old tactic of ejecting oil and debris from a torpedo tube to fake their destruction. Will add to the tension greatly. Also when more escorts come in you can emulate 'Johnnie' Walkers creeping barrage attack from the Royal Navy.
I think I would have called in the aircraft and also let the other distroyer have a go while I was turning around .. but hey .. must have all the glory and of course the fun of trying to kill a sub.
Thanks for the battles, the way you do them is great....have a request if it becomes feasible....could you do a tutorial for those of us who have the game but having some difficulty getting the hang of it? I have watched the one with the game but isnt doing it for me, I know with your style, description, narrative etc I can become as good as you (not/lol).
I highly doubt to detect a sub running with normal speed in the mid of a convoy and I don´t believe, that is sub is able to change direction as shown in the game.
@@Wolfpack345 did you get the upgrade patch you can actually see the periscope. I run half speed and dump my ash cans.. easier to spot... when it say 100 yard wait 3 seconds drop cans you should have 90% hit...it works for me... keep the good videos comming
@@Wolfpack345 not tech savvy, hope this reaches u. Love your work. You've best voice on utube. As said, played two games no results. Obvious steep learning curve. Can be a bit overwhelming but immersion makes this game. Would love to see some practice games in the tutorial. I'm definitely no Tom Hanks
Wolfpack, between you and Radbrad, you guys are what tells me if a game is good or not, was wondering if you had to pllay all positions or if its possible to just play one position
Not loosing any ships is nice, but encountering a wolf pak like that and them not shooting a single torp at you or a merchant ship is sadly not very realistic.
Experienced and guess work. TRR only record range and speed, it basically give you estimated to launch the charge based on how rapidly you closing on the target.
I found out on a previous video that the crew update the TRR regularly. If the time to detonation section says the ash can is set to 50 seconds it means they're deep if it changes to 10 it means they are shallow and you can set your charges appropriately.

Thank you, That makes perfect sense, and i needed that.
Would love to see more surface boats included in this game- especially my beloved flower class!
Flower class is actually one of the possible AI escorts.
Feels like I've been waiting for another episode of this for years. Excited for more The U-Boat Hunter episodes!
I like this! Especially the fact that you're using a Fletcher Class destroyer! I was on DD-547, USS Cowell during service in the USNR.
Just got home from work and get some more Wolfpack content. You love to see it.

As a modern day ASW air controller for the US Navy, watching the system and tactics of the analog days. Freaking love it, embrace tradition
Imagine being in those merchantmen and the escorts are just dropping depth charges right on your path. Frightful yet reassuring?
Been waiting for a game of this depth to be made for battleships for years. I guess I'll keep waiting but this gives me hope.
what would be sick af is some one could be in the uboat trying to take out the convoy and others in the destroyer dope video o7
You mean, like Dangerous Waters multiplayer, just with earlier technology?
@@advorak8529 kinda like the game uboat and this in one game
i love just coming home and watching content. keep up the truly good work
I half expected Wolfy to take a few pot-shots at that periscope with guns in the closing seconds of this one!

Really enjoyed this episode.
😎👏
Impressive navigating in the convoy👌
Ahhh yes love destroyers hunted the uboats love it👌🔥💪🏻🤩
Love from South-Africa 🇿🇦

Lots of fun and down to the wire! more dot mod surface ship encounters
Fox was an elusive sub but no merchant ships were lost! The was Mission successful!
Please do more. Very cool simulation

UBoat had a major update you should check it out
This game is absolutely brilliant. Played two games
Please do the large one. This is AWESOME!!! GREAT vids man 😄😄😄

Greyhound: The Game
More video's I like them very much. Thank You! Still a learning curve for me. How are you changing course from other screens?
Loving these Destroyer: U Boat Hunter videos. Keep them coming!
Love the content!! Looking forward to more.
Next? I want to see a 1984 Alfa campaign in Cold Waters...
Wow what an episode.
Now we Now what it was like to hunt u 531 In Silent hunter 3
Thanks for the great videos :)

How Aggressive it is
the U-Boat actually in the game 🗣️
You literally have too be a mathematician to master this game.
Imagine this game compatible with uboat for multiplayer !!😅
You are doing absolutely Great. So intense, so much fun!
Ah just what the doctor ordered!
always enjoyed your vids wolfpack
I played long time ago: Destroyer command 1995. It was nice)
Wolfpack, between you and Radbrad, you guys are what tells me if a game is good or not, was wondering if you had to pllay all positions or if its possible to just play one position
Fresh off the press. Nice.
Wish you could give orders to the convoy.
Can you do a video explaining what you are looking at and doing on the ttr
Keep up the good work!
Please please do a guide/tips video.

I'm a SILLY Sub .. I allow destroyers to sail over me, without response .. I should launch surface running, circling torp !!
Come On these subs are impossible to kill So many good drops
Can you ram enemy subs in this game? I would love to see that
Do you plan on doing a 1939 campaign in uboat? Doesn't really matter because i enjoy anything you upload im just wondering.
I'm confused. Is he giving voice orders, or is he just repeating the orders he's clicking on?
Is Wolf manually determining the U-boat's depth on occasion? from the TRR? If so, where is that data?
Experienced and guess work. TRR only record range and speed, it basically give you estimated to launch the charge based on how rapidly you closing on the target.

I wonder if you could sink a merchant if you dropped a shallow pattern right in front of it
I like this game
Do the large battle
Cont... No subs sunk and lost both convoys. Expect court martial anytime. Help!
Going in for Op today on hand, may not be able use for a while. I love your work, best voice on utube😉
Like video
nice
dear god
Fastest like in the west
cbdr???
Constant bearing, decreasing range. Means you are at risk of colliding with a ship.
What is cpdr?
It is a collision warning so you don't ram a friendly ship
Constant bearing, decreasing range (CBDR)
Wiki have an article talk about it
day six of asking for submarine gameplay in cold waters
I'm a virgin
The game is very good but uboats are too strong …
They changed that. You can adjust damage.
this game looks cool but extremely complicated and confusing hahaha
I use the other cruisers for screening I can run at top speed and not loose the contzct..contact.
Love ya work wolfy
