    Hello Mark! I am really enjoying these Texas videos. The filming is awesome and the state is beautiful. We lived there for a couple of years back in the 80s it was a nice place to live too. Although it is very, very hot and humid!! >Merton ✌😎👌

    Hello Marc and Patricia! Once again, I'm tapping way back into your library! I haven't perused your TX beach spots yet as I assumed that region would not be on the radar for quite awhile. But....our trailer has arrived to the dealer in Poncho Springs, CO. Due to work trips, I won't be able to go get it until after the Thanksgiving holiday. And, I just made reservations for South Padre to do the solar install. The lap sealant should flow MUCH better down there than up here where I'd have to be jackhammering the ice off of the roof. I figured I'd give your interactive map a look, and low and behold, you've been to the campground that we'll go to.
    Safe travels!

      Perfect Alan! We have two more TX beach episodes coming up, Surfside Beach this Wednesday and Port Aransas the following. Port Aransas is now our favorite Texas beach town that we've visited thus far. And you're so right, it'll be a LOT more favorable to do your solar install down there. Congrats on the TT finally arriving!

    If we didn’t rush to Big Bend when we headed west in February, we would’ve visited. So glad we passed it up. True or not, it’s not worth safety issues or risking it. Thanks for showing us better options! Loving these Texas videos.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  5 років тому +1

      Christina & Ben, then be sure to catch next week's episode. Padre Island National Seashore near Corpus Christi offers a better and much safer beach camping experience. It's truly been the highlight of our trip, and the reason we traveled to South Texas. We've camped all along the Pacific Coast and while we had wonderful waterfront campsites in WA, OR and CA, they all paled by comparison to actually camping *on* a natural, undisturbed beach.

    • @TheMcMillanExpress
      @TheMcMillanExpress 5 років тому +1

      Grand Adventure Agree! As we are loving the west coast and the views, the delicious food and wonderful people, never running out of tourist activities, etc etc, we miss beaches like the one you’ve been posting pictures of. The beaches with water warm enough to swim in comfortably! 😂 And decent gas prices surrounding the area! 🤨

    Interesting travelogue of the west Texas Gulf Coast beaches. But once you've experienced the sugar white sand and surf of the eastern Gulf Coast beaches, nothing else comes close (except maybe the Bahamas) IMHO.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  5 років тому

      We can't disagree with that. The big thing for us was the ability to actually boondock *on* the beach, which a cold front finally allowed us to do in the next episode. We're not aware of any Florida Gulf beaches where you can do this.

    • @DrJohn493
      @DrJohn493 5 років тому +1

      @@GrandAdventure Correct about Florida beach access. The panhandle beaches I used to be able to drive out on have been overdeveloped to the point that beach access by vehicle is now heavily restricted. And forget about taking your k-9 pals to the beach. Beach boondocking is out but the Florida panhandle does have some great beach state parks suitable for RV camping.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  5 років тому

      @@DrJohn493 thanks for the confirmation. PINS (in next week's video) encompasses 65 miles of undeveloped barrier island beach, the longest protected barrier island environment in North America. Dogs are required to be "on leash or under control" at all times, which we found to be an interesting way to word it, and most folks we saw appear to interpret that as including under verbal command. Plus, at least on South Beach you're usually out somewhere with no one else around for at least a mile or two in either direction, so there's no one to disturb or offend by letting your dog play in the surf a bit.

  • @davidmciver9483

    Where to boondock near where you camped?

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  4 роки тому

      David, boondocking opportunities in the immediate area appear to be somewhat limited. There is Boca Chica Beach, which we showed in this video, but we opted to not stay there out of security concerns. It's not clear to us if you are allowed to camp on the beach north of town. However, a couple of hours to the north there is wonderful boondocking on Padre island National Seashore, which we share in this video: ua-cam.com/video/SqY-UIfQnRQ/v-deo.html .

    We are native Texans and are currently in Utah. We have been in Southen Utah since the end of August. There is so much to see here, and the weather is great. Thirty years ago South Padre was THE beach to visit. The dynamics have greatly changed, and people no longer know how to use trashcans. This seems to be a problem everywhere.

      Take care of our Utah home for us until we get back there! I wonder what's precipitated the change in behavior, JJ? Or better yet, I wonder what the solution is? We definitely noticed the beach trash problem was more acute the closer we were to the border.

      We kayak salt water in the next episode too, Eric. However, during our entire two weeks along the Gulf Coast the surf was a good 4-6 feet, so there was no way that I was launching on the Gulf side, at least not with that Necky Looksha. I live here, and Detroit or other similar city scares me unlike Boca. Shooting at day time there is absolutely nothing to worry about. Folks camp on the beach all the time. If you’re still scared camp closer to the jetties and not the river. I know people that live on the river. Another option is to boondock just north of the city limits of south padre island at beach access 5 or 6, just like Boca just not next to the river, plus restaurants are close by.

    Seems like a bit departed from your usual venue but still enjoyable to see. I have been in and through Tx quite a bit starting my first visit with the train ride from LA to Lackland AFB compliments of U. Sam in ‘60 and finishing with a road trip across the state 10 or more years ago. Enjoy your time there... I will!

      As we've mentioned before, Curt, we're more than happy to have you along for the ride. Camping around Texas is indeed a departure from our "normal," as we discuss on-camera with @RVTexasYall in next week's episode. But that's by necessity, for there are precious few opportunities to boondock thanks to a dearth of public land in Texas. That latter fact is plainly obvious if you look at this color-coded map of US public lands: maps.usgs.gov/padus/ . Notice how public land virtually evaporates once you cross the line from NM into TX.

      Grand Adventure What is the explaination for such a dramatic difference? I would think Tx. would abound with BLM land.

      @@curthiggins8792 you'd think so, but it doesn't. I don't know the reason for the difference, but it's obviously cast in some land management decisions by our federal government that took place many moons ago when they granted homesteads in some areas, and reserved land for themselves in others. Perhaps it has to do with trying to populate the area after the Mexican-American War? In any event, almost all of Texas land is privately held.
