Remember watching Jim complain about having "birthing pains" while chatting with a bunch of the other Escapist guys and Yahtzee is just sitting there looking dead inside. Funniest shit ever.
Poor Yahtzee, I wonder how much negotiating leverage he had for his pay since the meme of him being the only thing holding escapist up was something they themselves admitted lmao
Jim Sterling is one who appeared to be self-important ironically. Now that we know that Sterling is self-important unironically, he’s severely less interesting.
@@Thum-oi2ng Nah, its just the shield every "character actor" uses to hide how much of a Narcissistic ass they really are from their fanbase. They always claim to lose themselves to the "character", but the reality is always that the character is just an excuse to channel who they really are in a way acceptable to society.
iirc that was a bit about side-effects to HRT, not an actual claim which, I would love an in-depth discussion to the side effects of HRT but that will never happen
Ah fuck, why would remind me of that thing ? I still violently cringe when I remember the look on those fella's faces, as they nervously agree to whatever delusions Sterling is spouting and try to move past the subject
To me it sounded more like a bad joke because his body made him _think_ he was pregnant due to the hormones he was on. Not that he was _actually_ pregnant.
Jim is another "I thought you were joking." case. People always thought he was funny due to how he acted so self-important, and now we know it was never an act.
He also said Hogwarts Legacy was snubbed from The Game Awards because "maybe it just wasn't that good." Yeah Jim, the second most critically acclaimed blockbuster of the year wasn't at TGA because "it wasnt that good". Sure bud, keep gassing that light xD
Pretty much sums up my experience with Sterling. Was a fan of their takes on games and of the persona, especially during the Digital Homicide lolsuit, but as time went on i realized that "wait thats not an act or a character this person is actually insufferable" and dropped. I dipped in back from time to time on their content and saw the amount of political takes i just stopped. If i wanted to hear stuff about politics id go to a politics channel, not a games journalist channel.
I've never seen someone completely switch genders as a means of deflecting criticism. Say what you want about him, his commitment to being insufferable is unwavering.
He didn’t switch genders. He just cosplays a caricature of a woman, takes hormones, and says he feels like one (whatever the hell that means). He is a man. Just a very psychotic one.
Memes aside the reason game journos want lower skill ceilings and accessibility options(game plays itself) is so they can hit credits first to hit the algorithm with reviews stuffed with personal stuff no one cares about
Sterling doesnt see himself as someone to inform a potential consumer, he sees himself as the final arbiter for fanboys to get a verdict on their game. If he ever got off that pedestal he'd leave a crater.
Jim Sterling used to be very credible. I watched his vids religiously until he became political. It went from “Let me tell you about the stupid things EA/Ubisoft/Konami did last week.” to “Let me tell you about the stupid things EA/Ubisoft/Konami did last week but first let me talk about how evil Republicans are!” I pretended not to notice the shall we say “cosplaying as a woman” thing until he started bringing it up every five minutes. I especially love the fact that he threw a hissy fit over losing two hundred thousand subscribers in like two months and blamed it on us for being bigots instead of being because of him dragging politics into video game stories.
And it’s like: we’re sorry to hear you’re going through this stuff, but that’s something for your therapist and not gamers looking to tune into the latest controversies surrounding a company or a system or news about a game or upcoming console
I think the moment he truly lost me, was when he preached about how unsafe people within LGBTQ are around individuals who buy a copy of Hogwarts Legacy.
I used to watch him years ago, back during the lootbox fiasco his videos were getting recommended, helped during my depression actually, but after a while I sorta dropped off since he was basically saying the same thing every video anyway. Then I saw him crossdressing in the thumbnails and wondered who he was making fun of. Turns out it was nobody, he just dresses like that now. Oh. Ok then..? I preferred the previous outfit but fine. But then I checked out what he'd been up to and saw his newly made "Under 900k Subscriber Celebration" video and realized he'd fallen off the deep end. I mean I was still subscribed at the time and was occasionally catching up on his older stuff but I didn't even wanna be associated with whatever the hell that was about. Even his comment section was now just full of people only talking about his "transitioning" with furries and trans flags plastered all over their profiles. Like a rainbow of degeneracy all the way down. No actual conversations were had there anymore, I remember being part of discussions under his videos but that wasn't even an option anymore. People would dump their "we're so proud of you!" and leave like it was obligated to leave Facebook Mom tier posts for internet brownie points amongst their co-workers.

@@hatemongerofthetoxicbrood6561He was one of the best in the business, but TB moved to America and got TDS at the same time as all his friends. I remember that being when I stopped paying attention to things like the Co Optional podcast. Really a caricature of human being. If aliens knew about us purely from mainstream social media Jim is what they would come up with as a standard human.
I feel that's the case for 90% of old-internet personalities. For every AVGN, Angry Joe, or Yahtzee, there are five Boogies, Moviebobs, and Jim Sterlings who lost their minds and headed down the slippery slope of the lolcow.
I use to be subbed to him back before he went insane. I haven't watched any of his vids in probably 8 years or so and its frightening to see how much further he's sliding down the rabbit hole
And he demeans people for having “pointless little genitals”. Y’know, for someone who “came out” and we’re all “proud” of, he sure does have a lot of body dysphoria flowing through his veins…
FR!! And then he tries to turn it back around on you and call you a bigot if you're not 100% OK with him talking about being pregnant. When people say this is being shoved in our faces, people like Jim Steph are who they're talking about. Even if he/they goes/go back to talking about scummy game companies, they've already put too many people off by making every video a pride parade.
The only good thing Sterling did was say Scott Cawthon’s characters looked like creepy animatronics and gave the guy the idea for Five Nights At Freddy’s. Of course, Sterling also went on the “Scott Cawthon bad because political donations” crowd in 2021.
I’d actually be okay with more video game reviewers not finishing games if there is proper etiquette around it. A lot of book reviews will start with a “did not finish” statement and give valid criticisms as to why.
Yeah just take it for what it is. It's the same if someone uses cheat codes to get through a level, if you're not getting conceited about it it's totally fine.
As always context is key, but like most things there is little reason for a blanket statement of something that is seen as detrimental or just, silly, but with explanation anything can be seen as Like it could be a compliment to a horror game ‘omg this was so scary I couldn’t finish it I just can’t it’s too scary’ but also ‘I couldn’t finish this, it’s so fucking boring’
It would probably be a gun that give long lectures about the importance of recognizing gender identity or some crap like that while hating on Randy Pitchford, David Cage, and Digital Homicide studios.
@Gn3rd ...no. by its nature a review is objective. By its nature by definition is going over what's in the game. What's the content. That's what it is by definition.
@@Gn3rda game review has some level of objectivity and some level of opinion/subjectivity, sure but Jim is clearly stating his reviews barely have anything to do with the game and are done in a fairly inconsistent and unprofessional way. Meaning his reviews are actually not useful as a review for considering a product or to help you form your own opinion of the product. At that point you are just there to listen to Jim's voice and if you want that, then by all means, power to you I guess.
Jim Sterling went from ruthlessly decimating sleazy indie devs and shining a light on the AAA industry's anti-consumer antics, to being a lolcow hell bent on antagonizing gamers and burying their own career to the ground.
Yeah, I used to like him in that era Jim ruthlessly slamming on shitty indie devs(ex Digital Homicide) and AAA industry's shitty micro transaction. I forgot about him until now and.... I regret revisiting his channel
Someone who readily brags about deliberately choosing to not complete the last 2% of a story driven game out of petulant spite is not someone who I would readily trust to have reviewed the first 98% in good faith.
Kinda hilarious that YMS is guilty of the same issue of “reviewing” movies he hasn’t fully watched and then crying over how people criticize him for doing that.
My main takeaway after MauLer and Fringy talked to him about that was not that he reviewed something without having finished it, but rather that he didn't label the review as such or make it known up-front that it was a review based on an incomplete viewing.
I don't want to get too serious for YT comments but... Jim Sterling is an example of person with biopolar (which he says that he has been diagnosed with) who is not getting the help that he desperately needs...and is now self destructing.
He's also said before that he is easily manipulated and that in the past he had been emotionally abused, controlled and manipulated by a previous....partner? Friend? Editor? I'm not entirely sure....someone close to him, anyway. I think the same thing might be happening now. He's left one toxic relationship and gone straight into another. From what I've seen and heard of Jims current girlfriend, she seems to be a domineering control freak, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's her who is heavily pushing this ideology on him. Either way, the two of them seem like incredibly confused people and are probably quite toxic for each other. Like, get this....they both consider themselves non-binary and gender fluid, yet she refers to Jim as her 'wife', Jim refers to her as his 'husband', while Jim claims that he's *NOT* trying to become a women (insisting he is a They/Them non binary).....yet he's taking hormones to grow himself tits and dresses like a woman.....like....what?? If you're not trying to become a woman, why are you going out of your way to grow tits?? How confused do you have to be??? Dude's clearly got some serious mental issues going on, but he's just being affirmed every step of the way and isn't getting the help he so clearly needs!
Personal story: When Castlevania Symphony of the Night came out, I was at a friends' house, and she said she didn't like it... I went, "That's cool, can I try it anyway since I'm not needed for this project you're working on?" She said yes, I started playing, and realized about ten minutes in that everyone was engrossed in me playing, even said friend. I guess she just hadn't realized how the game was trying to guide her?
Yeah, sometimes, some people do play the game wrong, maybe missed some mechanics, maybe they just aren’t good at it, maybe the controls feel bad an so on, I remember trying monster hunter for the first time and I hated it, few months later tried again and it clicked, or risen 2, no actually risen 2 is garbage lmao.
@@italianspiderman5012 Yeah, this is me and Persona Q2. As much as I enjoyed myself, some part of fusing/making personas just soared right over my head or something, because Doe (an endgame boss) was just an absolute brick wall, especially with his gimmick. Heck, that _entire dungeon_ was kicking my butt the whole way through, regardless of levels or equipment. So I went to look at guides and learnt that I'd apparently been having more trouble than I should have for a long while. And not only did they _not_ explain the fuse/create mechanic, they always spoke as though making specific personas was the simplest thing. Meanwhile I'm sitting there like, "WHO?? HOW??? I SWEAR I read every line of dialogue in this game; how is this apparently so basic that it doesn't have a guide?! My dumb ass need HELP!" That was years ago, though; it might have guides about it now. I never did beat PQ2, though. Mainly because after a while I completely forget what I was doing in a game, or sometimes even the _controls._ When that happens, I start over. And while I may be engrossed in the story/dialogue of a game the first time around, I'm mashing through it it subsequent playthroughs because I already know what's up just want to play. ...And I've been far, FAR too impatient to get through PQ2's absolute book of an opening a second time. I probably shouldn't have deleted my save this time. XD
@@italianspiderman5012 I'm autistic, so games tutorializing me too loosely or too strongly can lead to me just missing how basic mechanics work for the whole game. It might teach me to jump by having me run first, and I just go "Right, I have to do run before I jump, got it", then someone else picks up the controller and just starts jumping in place or doing backflips or cartwheels. Or maybe they introduce a dodge mechanic and I just will never learn other ways to avoid being hurt, like running sideways or jumping over the attack, I will wait to dodge even when it's not optimal.
Even before knowing anything about politics and such, when he started doing this he seriously became off-putting. After since learning about politics I at least understand where this mindset came from.

He stands in front of a microwave oven saying, HURRY UP!!!" When a waiter asks what he wants in his hamburger he says, "A hotdog." He puts mayonnaise on his aspirin.
"As a reviewer, if I play more of the game, I might get a different opinion on the game!" Yeah, a more accurate one. What is the potential customer going to do with the game if not try to complete it?
I think I’ve figured it out. Sterling keeps talking about giving games the most positive review he can, and suggests repeatedly that giving games negative reviews is a bad thing. The fact is, Sterling is not a _journalist_ or a _reviewer,_ he’s a _propagandist._ His goal is for game publishers to see his reviews, and thus decide to fly him to conventions and whatnot because the publishers know he’s going to give their game a positive impression. Edit: apparently I’m dead wrong and Jim is just salty he has to play video games for a living. In which case I recommend he find a different line of work.
Jim was and is always committed first and foremost to getting attention for himself, I'd say he's an almost stereotypical example of a "transtrender". It both makes many people uncomfortable and probably gets him loads of positive hugbox attention, praise and affirmation from the social circles he was already mostly moving in.
Jim used to be pretty good, mostly hating on corporations, quite fairly, then not so fairly, then hating on capitalism(even though capitalism is what sustains his lifestyle now), and finally hating on gamers in general. You could probably do a documentary on Jim descending from being pretty cool to being an absolute unhinged psycho.
I thought him hating on capitalism is when he jumped the shark from being strange and opinionated to completely unhinged and unsubscribed, and then years later I see "Stephanie"
@@looinrims It's...okay. Not great, not "good", but ok. If you can get the campaign on sale it's at least worth a shot, unlike H5 which should be avoided like the plague.
Jim got brought down by two things. One was a contempt for his audience, and the other was drifting way too far into the political left. When every other jimquisition was blaming capitalism for the world’s ills, I tuned out, thankfully before he became crazier.
Same here and sounds like to this day, those are still the two main things he complains about. The only thing worth watching of old Jimmy boy is his ever dropping sub count.
I used to watch him around the 2010s. And just stopped for whatever reason, but was still subscribed and one day he showed up in drag and I was like "oh, is this some kind of bit?" And then he went on a rant about how people were racist or something for not staying subscribed to him and I dropped off immediately lmao
First time I've seen him in YEARS. Used to love his videos when he would shit on whatever shovelware had hit steam. Started this video and honestly had to wonder what the goat fuck happened here.
I used to watch Jim religiously. Every Monday for a good 3 years was spent refreshing my sub page to see if he had uploaded the next Jimquisition. Then 2017 he really ramped up his leftist nonsense and outright contempt for his audience.
I stopped watching Jim around 2017. The intro song was grating and ending every show with “Thank God for me” was whimsical the first two times, but then he kept saying it over and over and over again. I found it both highly repulsive and an insane thing to say. Like if my girlfriend were to say that, I would block her number by the second week. Seeing him become a cross dressing steam punk Karen asserts my decision to abandon him years ago
I hate when my girlfriend says "thank god" as well. She is the most perfect being in existence, but there's no need to thank my archnemesis in front of me.
I always saw that as the wrestler-like persona that he put forward more than anything else, but after he tried to "own" a game dev by posting a picture of himself with cum on his face I could only ever find him repulsive. At the very least people like Jim serve a purpose of warding people away with how vile they are.
yeahh... the entire pretending to be a pregnant woman thing is actually... really gross tbh. Its weird and fetishy and attention whoring and I really wish I didn't know about it lol.
OK... i'm going to come out and say it: I miss the old Jim Sterling. He used to be genuinely entertaining. His Let's Play's, his crusade against bad Steam games, his fight with Digital Homicide, his consumer activism. He has/had an undeniable charisma and delivery that lends itself beautifully to UA-cam. He blames phobia for his views and subs dropping off but speaking as a former fan I unsubbed because he started to display an obvious lack of effort for his work. I cannot understand why anyone from my era still watches him.
I came back to UA-cam from my first 2 years in College and to see him dressed as a woman... I thought it was a skit at first but then it was like... Oh god no!
We don't watch him anymore. That said I still remember his first video on the escapist... the top comment was "what the fuck was that". Maybe that commenter was a time traveler.
As someone who loves Halo Wars, that is a travesty. Let me guess, Arcadia and Arcadia Outskirts were "too hard" for him to complete? Ridiculous. I can't respect a reviewer who plays a fraction of the game with a fraction of the sandbox.
It's worth keeping in mind that during the "glory days" of the channel, Sterling was just opposing lootboxes in AAA games - fervently, sure, but that's like making 100,000 views on a video about how the Taliban is bad, and thus deciding to invest further in opposing the Taliban. At its core, it was always an open and shut ethical issue based upon morality a three year-old could understand and an obvious call to opposition that even journalists could imitate an investment in. "Should rich people exploit us more, Y/N?" is such a loaded binary that you could put it on a presidential ballot, though on the ballot the selection is always Y/Y. The best thing Jim ever did was have the obvious stance on a dead simple topic during the right time to receive popular credit for it; at the end of it all, this entire career was the equivalent of someone with a modest Let's Play channel trying to become a VTuber after a banger Tweet and seeing dwindling success after the first leap of viral growth - but at least failed VTubers have the excuse of not already being established game reviewers when the free clout dropped.
To be fair to Jim's career, he was also famous for standing up to a shitty game creator who tried to shut down criticism through legal means and Jim fought against that. It was a pretty big deal at the time and it's what gave Jim a lot of his standing in the community.

No matter how easily we resist the bullshit, enough people don't that these companies make billions a year off bullshit. Then there was the videos explaining how video games don't deserve to be $70 because they're already unofficially much higher priced than that now anyway. For years AAA companies have gotten away with dropping the quality of games while finding hidden ways to increase the cost. Not least of all was switching to primarily to digital distribution. That alone saves ~25% of the box price of a game, but DD games are never -25% off: the dev just pockets the difference. Add in shitty DLC, loot boxes, "just cosmetic" MTX, deluxe ultra mega gold collector's "hahaha FUCK YOU" editions, etc.... He looks like someone running a miserable orphanage in a Roald Dahl book. Jim's whole opinion changes depending on what group is around him. Early days he was on his own with younger gamers online, so he was an edge lord shit poster. Then he fell in with TB and became a consumer advocate against low quality releases. Then he fell in with LKD and became a media defender. I could also point out how he let this affect his personality as well, but I'll move on to keep things relevant. Fact is if you are reviewing something, you need to drive it to breaking point. If they added difficulties to games like Jim's advocated for, then the reviewers would need to play them all to tell us how those difficulties work. Is it just tougher enemies? More limited resources? Additional objectives? Extended levels? Less health? Additional survival mechanics? If a journalist just plays on easy, they are missing out on chunks of information that would be important to the player.

Someone on Kiwifarms mentioned how like Moviebob, Sterling doesn't really have that much of an interest in videogames, and would much rather focus on wrestling than anything gaming related...yet like with Moviebob, his brand *is* gaming, meaning he doesn't want to risk his income to try something more in his wheelhouse.
I can describe Jim Sterling with this story: when i was in college, i had a class called Social Environmental Justice. This class is exactly what you think it is: 30 women and like 8 men talking about "social issues." Because i didnt care about the class, i would take a youtubers video and base my arguments off of said video. This one day, the debate was on ethics of game monetization since the Star Wars Battlefront II controversy was still going on. I used ALL of Jim Sterling's arguments from his video complaining about it for my portion of the debate. I lost. Even when he has the "correct" position, his arguments STILL lose you because theres so much crazy in between his coherent thoughts.
Casual reminder: "Social justice" is collectivist justice, which is the complete opposite to actual justice, which is individual to specific circumstances and cases. You know the whole "don't argue with stupid people" thing? well this is similar but its simply don't argue with commies, its a waste of time, even if they are completely wrong and you can easily prove as much... it doesn't matter, they care about ideology, not truth.
You don't need to have played a game entirely to form an opinion on it. But if you're offering a professional review of the game, the least you can do is play it all the way through. If you can't be bothered, then either don't review it, or don't offer your critique as a review. Offer it as your incomplete impressions based on X hours of play. Those impressions can still be valuable, so long as there's no confusion about where and how those impressions were formed.
Jim Sterling is great however at being an adverse weirdo; which involves him professing an ethical and logical philosophy that prohibits his own critiques from being meaningful.
He USED to be great. Then he devolved into being a communist ideologue who wouldn't shut up about it. I jumped ship long before he fell prey to a certain social contagion. lol
@@DbonnRP Nope, he was great. He was on the front lines against the MTX industry push when most gaming personalities and practically ALL the gaming media were neutral to positive. He also helped highlight the steam garbageware situation that eventually led to more and better curation.
17:45 Reminds me of the time someone made a negative review of Star Wars Force Unleashed ... and showed footage of himself running headfirst into obstacles, blaming the game for him not understanding the controls, and admitting to thinking the combat system of "press attack then something else" was too hard to remember Good times... 19:55 also boss rushes are normal in hack n slash
Probably because in that bubble (by which I mean your colleagues/the industry), if you’re a “cis hetero white man” you’ll be on the bottom of the progressive stack, and they’ll stop paying attention to you or propping you up. Especially with how Jim rallied against the industry, he wasn’t going to get any review copies or special privileges. And since coming out as gay is “so last decade”, the new thing is trans. It catapults you near to the top. It seems to have worked for other content creators (albeit not game reviewers). But I don’t think it’ll work with ol’ Jim because he’s burned so many bridges, and is volatile. Companies won’t want to touch him, and neither will people within the industry that host for other companies’ streams. Just smaller, privately-owned/crowdfunded outlets. He even burned some bridges with his viewers by telling them off for wondering if this was all a joke, because he _has_ dressed up as a bit before. Told them he’s glad yo lose them. Okay, it’s your career down the drain then, lol. So I see it as a last attempt to try, and gain attention, but it won’t work for the reasons stated. I think he still makes lots of money on Patreon, but he was still bugged about his declining views.
Jim is the perfect case study on the importance of maintaining your mental health. I used to be an avid fan of his, and I watched his slow decline for years until I just couldn't bear it anymore. Now he's become this... thing. This is the consequences of treating his childhood traumas as an amusing quirk rather than a serious problem. Now he's fully gone off the deep end.
That "liver and onions" analogy is absolute dogshit, it's circumstantial as all get out and it's not even a certainty either. I used to hate vegetables, like the majority of kids do, my mom forced me to eat them, and nowadays i love spinach and broccoli
Yup. There is this general rule of "taste it 10 different times and if you still don't like it, you probably won't". Not to mention tastes change over time. More importantly, there is a difference between not liking something, and something being broken/unbalanced/unresponsive/etc.
Shout out to Mortismal Gaming who only reviews games at 100%, absolute chad 💪 Also sad to see the fall of Jim, he actually used to be quite sane and on the side of consumers/gamers, sigh, now he completely lost the plot.
And here is the hilarity, Mortismal Gaming sometimes does multiple reviews, sometimes he gives a first impression and a full review at 100%, hell, sometimes his review isnt the 100% achievements because they are such a slog. He just says:"this is my review and I am at this stage of the game", but according to Jimmy that is basicly impossible, we simply dont have the technology.
@Gn3rd Nah, watch the freaking video above and you will see he doesn't give a fuck anymore (that's the same impression everyone in EFAP got). Not to mention he did advocate and celebrate censorship of games like DoA and tried to gaslight people about it ... the typical "it's not happening .. but if it is that's a good thing".
The absurd idea about the reviewers having disdain for being forced to play a game to completion falls apart here: This is your job. We all have parts of our job we don't like, even dream jobs. Grow up.

To be fair he leaves craters every time he gets off a chair.
Ah, Jimbo is just seething that he is told to actually do his job and properly review a game instead of spending 5 minutes on it for footage.
I thought it was funny in like... 2012/2013.
Jim Sterling was insufferable even in 2017, having shitty takes and baiting for outrage like in his Zelda review
It was funnier when he had his fascist aesthetics going. Now he's just a bog-standard drag queen.

OK... i'm going to come out and say it: I miss the old Jim Sterling.
Same for a Time he was the filler for the loss of TotalBiscuit because he was realy on Consumer-Friendly side... did not well long
I came back to UA-cam from my first 2 years in College and to see him dressed as a woman...
I thought it was a skit at first but then it was like...
Oh god no!
We don't watch him anymore. That said I still remember his first video on the escapist... the top comment was "what the fuck was that". Maybe that commenter was a time traveler.

One of Jim's first real controversies was reviewing Halo Wars while only playing the first few levels, so....
That game is incredibly short, how did he not finish that?

@@AppleGonCrumble Again, a lolcow tries to sue you and you publicly humiliate him for self-defense and profit. A golden opportunity on par with finding another man's lottery ticket - not something of exceptionalism, just something anyone with a platform would do for their own gain by default. The universe has essentially handed Jim two separate vouchers for public goodwill and the entire channel has been about pushing that goodwill away through arrogance, mediocre humor, and mediocre humor about arrogance. Not that I mean any ire towards you, you're raising a fair point, but the reality is, the fairest point you can make here still doesn't make anything about the channel's legacy something special. I would be crushed to look back at my own life and realized hundreds of thousands of dollars and thousands of hours of my own life resulted in the video equivalent of a weekly Buzzfeed article with He-Man footage clipped into it.
This discussion deserved the acknowledgment that you brought to it, so even though I am not moved by that information and nor is the truth of the matter, I do personally appreciate you bringing it up; thank you amigo.
This and the thrashing of Steam Greenlight asset flips, the only people who would have disagreed with that stone cold take would be the asset flippers themselves.
I feel like thats not entirely fair. Believe me I like bashing Jim but he did do more than just bash Lootboxes. He also shown a light on Crunch, Konami’s bullshit, and was a big advocate for Single Player Games. Yes other people did too, but his exposes were the largest and he was earlier than most.
@@darthgamer9861 I will never forget Jim's "Turning Players into Payers" video, nor the one where he interviews people that had their lives ruined through predatory MTX. You know, gambling addicts that tried to heal by playing those "innocent" video games they used to enjoy as kids.... only to realize the casino is now in their Xbox.
If you don't have a problem ignoring the exploitative practices.... congratulations, you are not the main target.
That part hit me hard. We are all just statistics to exploit.
But yeah... it's gotten much harder to take "him" seriously the more crazy "Stephanie" became. For years I described Jim as the "youtuber your favorite youtuber watches," as I had heard of multiple YT'bers talk about his battle with Digital Homicide or the "Copyright Claim Deadlock" that Jim pioneered to fuck with companies trying to steal money from your channel. And now he's lost in the "words are violence, making money is EVIL, gender confusion" nonsense. I doubt IGN disclosed it in their review about FFXIII. They rarely did. The writers usually admitted that stuff other places like Twitter. Like the Toukiden Age of Demons reviewer whose review suspiciously only mentioned things found in the demo, then admitted later on Twitter not having played it and “I’ve played enough Monster Hunter to review this.” 🙄
I remember there was a time Jim Sterling said no one should be harassed regardless of what bad they did referring to Anita Sarkeesian which while now we know the real reason was he agreed with her, cut to 10 years later and he’s justifying harassment of streamers because they played Hogwarts Legacy (he’s still coping that the game sold well by saying oh it didn’t win an award despite for years mocking the Game Awards not meaning anything)
He was always like this watching old videos I see a now common venom radiating from most just he aimed it at scummy developers (even though now often comes off as anti business like when he complained about the Uncharted Subway sponsorship) and legal fraudsters, now the targets of his videos aren’t EA and Digital Homicide that made bad anti consumer decisions worth covering they are normal gamers who don’t want hard left politics forced into games

It is quite literally just a dude in a wig. He doesn't even put in the slightest bit of effort to be passable. Look at that dollar store wig! Look at it!
Feeding a person's delusions is a very unhealthy action. If someone said they were hearing voices that told them to burn things and cut themselves, would the trans crowd say "Yes! So brave! Go burn things! Cut your self! Embrace your "true" self!"?
But when someone says "I am a woman inside!" they say "Yes! So brave! Permanently mutilate your body/genitals! Be your "true" self!" Pushing people into permanently mutilating themselves, ruining their puberty development phase with medication, pumping them full of SSRI's when they start to regret these actions, etc. instead of getting them help and therapy from the get-go is why the trans su1cid3 rate is so disproportionally high.
@@fearlesswee5036also, if you're gonna talk about the suicide rate, you have to include that the rate drops to below 1% when they have just 1 person supporting them in their life. Jim's whole opinion changes depending on what group is around him. Early days he was on his own with younger gamers online, so he was an edge lord shit poster. I can describe Jim Sterling with this story: when i was in college, i had a class called Social Environmental Justice. This class is exactly what you think it is: 30 women and like 8 men talking about "social issues." You don't need to have played a game entirely to form an opinion on it.
