I have 1 observation about a specific play. At 24:25 it appears that maybe he throws it a touch late, but I'm thinking that the WR stopped early. I think Penix is expecting him to run 2 yards deeper, instead of 2 yards short of the sticks. You'll notice that every other stick route did exactly that. If he's 2 yards deeper, that throw comes out at the perfect time.
The play at 40minutes Looking at where his head was looking right before the throw, I think he made a good read. I'm excited to watch more, but I just really was not impressed in this game. I agree the arm and accuracy are great but I need more than that if I'm taking a guy round 1.
Was very interesting to see the difference in the Texas and Michigan games. Looked elite against Texas and below average against Michigan. Obv Michigan defense was insane but he also made uncharacteristic missed more than I would've expected when guys were open. Accuracy seemed way off from normal.
I couldn’t agree more with your analysis. From just watching the broadcast I thought he was great but after watching that I don’t know if you can take him Day 2 even. Tough outing for sure.
NFL QB Patrick Mahomes claims to be able to throw a football 75-83 yards. The Tennessee Vols Joe Milton claims to be able to throw a football 80-90 yards.
In the 2024 NFL draft, the sleeper quarterback that will probably go a the later round is the Tennessee Vols QB Joe Milton. He is 6-5 and 250 pounds. Is 80 yard football passing long enough?
I’m more of a cfb guy than an NFL guy. Your tape evaluation kinda confirms what I always knew to be true. Penix has been largely 2 very different QBs with and without Kalen DeBoer who was also his OC at Indiana. You can tell that when he knows what he’s looking at and he can trust what he’s seeing in this system, he’ll mostly throw some dots but otherwise it’s pretty shaky.
This is why your a UA-camr and not involved in any real football operations, imagine thinking maye or Willam’s is even near penix level, he’s clearly the best QB in college
Everything you said about Penix previous games about his not creating has been 100% right, until the Texas game lmao. It’s like he watched this video and heard everything bad you said about him and listened to it. He was extending and making so much offense in that game
What do you consider quick twitch, is a 4.64/40 and 38 inch vertical quick twitch? Those were he numbers from Washington, local reporters say he is very athletic, which is what they saw when he was with Indiana. I think he has become cautious about running due to his injury history.
If he can get better at processing, he will be unstoppable, watching Mikey is insane. He is MR PUT IT ON HIM humanized, the definition of elite ball placement
Gotta say, the commenter obviously hasn't watched much of Penix. To begin with, Oregon is probably the second or third best team in the country along with Georgia, and definitely the best team the UW has played this season. They just had the misfortunate of playing Washington twice. Penix had pressure the entire game. For the most part he avoids interceptions by not getting rid of the ball too soon, he makes certain his receivers are open before he lets go. Yes he throws into tight coverages, and yes that could result in turnovers at the next level against elite defensive backs, but at this level his throws are remarkably accurate. Not stepping into the pass may cost him some power on the release, but he gets rid of it more quickly that way, and defenders don't know when and where he's throwing as quickly. He's had injuries, and doesn't leave the pocket not because he's unable to, but because his priority and that of his team this season has been to keep him healthy. The reviewer doesn't seem to know he's led the NCAA Div. I in passing yards two seasons in a row. At the NFL level, his success will depend on pass protection and his receivers' ability to get open. Against Oregon they were covered most of the game and he faced a lot of pressure, but still passed for 302 yards and four touchdowns. Not his best game, but give credit where it's due, to Oregon's defense.
If you think the 1st round QBs are done, could we see WRs next. I'm very intrigued on how you evaluate Marvin Harrison Jr versus Malik Nabers. Is it more 1-2 or 1A-1B comparison between them.
Here... I'll do that for you. Nabers is better. Harrison's reputation is overhype because of his father. Watch the tapes: Nabers gets open a lot better and then creates big plays after the catch a LOT better.
Best bet is to almost always work past the top 1 or 2 hyped guys to find the "best prospect". Especially these days with such a saturated and parrotted market. My bet for best WR is Troy Franklin right now off quick looks. Harrison is awesome and reminds of Cooper Kupp with NFL bloodlines/body. Nabers I'm less sold. No comp yet. Franklin looks crazy special to me. Same for Jayden Daniels at qb and Mims at tackle. A LOT of times the consensus ranks are off.
Excellent look! How much does him being a lefty help or hurt his prospects? Obviously if you're drafting him to be the guy (and I agree, I'm not sure he's quite gonna get there), it doesn't matter, but if you're drafting him to be Jacoby Brissett, I wonder whether him effectively flipping all the blocking and pass rush makes him more or less appealing.
Bad take. . . see sugar bowl - his release is elite - up and out - Dan Marino like. . . doesn't need a big windup . . . excellent pocket movement with eyes downfield. The guy carved up Alabama. Watch more than one game next time.
Disagree. Dan Marino?! Lol. Arm looks loopy to me and he has the WIDEST throwing base I've ever seen. Bad take. And I like Penix more than most, fanboys notwithstanding of course. 😂
Penix's routine is to drop back and throw it immediately. He has no interest in scrambling or extending plays ala Mahomes or Josh Allen, et al. I think he will need a good line and running game in front of him for this to work in the NFL. This is how NFL QB's played forever, but the model has moved toward the dual-threat style in the past decade. He has a great arm but he will need to be in the right situation.
He is 26 and 2. Top offense in the nation 2 straight years. If there were problems with his mechanics and the sauce on his throws are such a problem, the odds are he wouldn't have the success that the team and fans enjoy watching. Pay attention to this, the paid commentators and prognosticators profess his talent and skill from rooftops. Who are you? Dawgs are continually the under Dawgs, and they continually prove these nay sayers wrong. What are your credentials?...He beat Oregon 3 consecutive times. I hope you have a day job that you are good at.
I think you're completely off the mark on several of these plays. You misunderstand what defense Oregon is running and miss Penix reading through his progressions. Perfect example is 31:37 where you wanted to tear into him about being a backup instead of him going through progessions.
Another thing at 42:40 he doesn't throw it because Odunze had broken his ribs the game before against Arizona. He had to be driven home instead of flying due to a collapsed lung.
I was going to say that he reminds me a lot tua, i was thinking that before i even realized he was left handed. I think they both have similar athleticism, arm strength, throw with anticipation well over the middle, not as well behind the numbers, which also leads to some of their picks and weird throws. They also have some injury issues. Not that its important. I just think its cool finding player archetypes like its madden 😂 To be clear, i dont think hes going to he as good as tua or that they’re similar level prospects in terms of how highly valued they are as a prospect. I just see the similarities, especially with tuas downfalls
@@FantasySportsZen i think hes at about 2nd round value for sure. But since qbs value is higher, i see a team like the vikings reaching on him in the first, which isnt a bad landing spot. Theres weapons there, JJ, Addison, Hock. Oline is in pretty good shape. Wether they get him in the first or not, i think its a great fit
I see what you mean about the mechanics. It's like his shoulder inserts about an inch too high & his shoulder blade is the only muscle area of his back that gets involved. It's also probably why he doesn't have much power in his throws. I wonder how tall he is? It feels like a habit he learned from having to throw over everyone. Maybe he wasn't that tall in high school or something. It does feel a little unnatural. & yeah, Rivers was a good comparison.
I think that you are so dead wrong on Penix Jr. You have to look at more than ONE game and come up with a narrative geezzz. I have him as my 2nd QB in this draft behind Jayden Daniels. And i think that as the Draft gets closer and we get thru the scouting and combine this will start to turn into the whispers and then get louder as the draft approaches. Penix Jr is the most underrated QB draft prospect this decade.. so many bad takes. I have him 2 in this draft is his medical clears. All of those injuries would be plus 3 years in the rear view mirror on First day of OTA's. 1 Jayden Daniels 2 Micheal Penix Jr 3 Caleb Williams 4 Drake Maye 5 Bo Nix 6 JJ McCarthy 7 Cam Ward Quinn Ewers shouldn't come out but i still think he is a solid 3rd rounder Sheduer Sanders is the case of super elite instincts and good ball placement but "ok" physical tools 5th if he came out. This ranking will look "eye rolls" until the draft comes around.
Daniels and Penix over Williams is insane to me. I watched all of his film this year and even in his bad games he still shows elite traits. I think you might be allowing the media or even prospect fatigue to get to you. Also crazy to have Maye below Penix. I can understand how someone might prefer Daniels over Maye. Im shoocked its not more of a consensus Williams, Maye/Daniels, Maye/Daniels, Penix, Bo/JJ, Bo/JJ.
Not gonna lie I think you're being overly harsh on Penix this game. It's not like he's playing a scrub team-he's playing Oregon, one of the best teams in college football. In addition he RARELY takes sacks and is deadly accurate. I honestly don't think there is a quarterback in this draft even close to Penix anticipation down field and overall accuracy/touch. He also did show the ability to make some reads like making that clutch read in the red zone on 4th down. Obviously his lack in speed like a Daniels hurts him but I think he would be a very good fit for a more structured system in New England. I do agree that his footwork and ability to analyse the pocket this game was very poor this game. I think you came in with some sort of bias as some of The other quarterbacks you broke down did not play the same level of pressure and such an important game as this one (other than JD). Absolutely love your videos! - just some thoughts
Michigan has not played a single team with a decent offense all year! Only ONE team even in the Top 50 - Ohio State #47 in Total Offense. Alabama is not even in the Top 50 on offense. UW, on the other hand, played boatloads of high octane and highly rated offenses. They just beat the nation's #2 offense - Oregon (twice) and the nation's #9 offense - Texas. Michigan D might be elite but they have never even come close to playing even one elite offense. Big 10 was weirdly lacking in decent QB's and decent offenses this year.
All month is go back and forth with Texas fans. They'd say Penix would be running for his life and I told them you obviously haven't watched Penix play..
Penix is a sure second rounder. Great accuracy on long throws, but it looks to me like he's following a script on almost every play. Compare that to, say, Joe Burrow who was a master in college of reading defenses before and DURING a play, and adjusted his throws accordingly... and has similar deep ball accuracy. I admit I'm an LSU fan but there's no way Penix gets drafted before Daniels... who just might be QB1 in this draft owing to one big circumstance in the NFL this season: Lamar Jackson is tearing the league apart, and there's plenty of Lamar Jackson in Jayden Daniels.
If Jayden Daniels is QB1 it will be because of what he does that resembles CJ Stroud and Jalen Hurts as a thrower, and not the parts that look like Lamar as a runner imo. Don't be shocked when the Ravens sputter in the playoffs again and all the excuses flow.
Subscriber who generally enjoys your content. This one wasn't satisfying for me (I watched before the Sugar Bowl btw) and I think it's because a) it's just one game, and it doesn't seem like the overall body of work (two consecutive top-notch seasons) was considered enough when assessing a particular decision or a particular trait's quality, and b) it didn't seem to consider the context for Penix' decisions in this game and his performance relative to the opponent and the importance of winning this game. For example, you were critical of Penix throwing the ball away when he could potentially have "added" something by going out of structure or being more aggressive. One of Penix' strengths is situational awareness - "what is the best thing to do in this game with this much time left with this score with this field position with this down and distance." If Penix is throwing the ball away deep in his own territory in a critical close game against a top opponent so as to avoid a sack or a turnover, that's a good thing and I'm quiet confident that it's inline with what his coach was asking of him. He's not throwing it away when it's do-or-die, in fact he attacks very aggressively during those times and that's a big reason the Huskies keep winning. The game-winner to Odunze, and the throw that you think is either the best throw you've ever seen or was an overthrow that went to the wrong guy are good examples of that. The body of work I think demonstrates (although he did have an inconsistent spell after this game, I think the injury speculation is valid) that he deserves the benefit of the doubt. Hoping you will do a follow-up to this. All that said, thanks for the vid!
Everything pointed out in this video is a fair assessment, this was an up and down game for him. However, it comes off like this is the only film that you have broken down on him which is disappointing. I would either try to watch multiple games to draw up a conclusion on a player and how you think he translates or just break down this game tell us what you see good and bad and leave it at that. It seems crazy to me to pick one game of film and act like you have everything dialed in on a player. Like I said, I think the breakdown of film was great but maybe watch a few more games before you crown someone king or write them off as not a first round talent. Enjoyed the video but just wanted to leave a little constructive criticism for whatever that’s worth

I'm excited to watch more, but I just really was not impressed in this game.
I agree the arm and accuracy are great but I need more than that if I'm taking a guy round 1.
For bro came in w an agenda
Was very interesting to see the difference in the Texas and Michigan games. Looked elite against Texas and below average against Michigan. Obv Michigan defense was insane but he also made uncharacteristic missed more than I would've expected when guys were open. Accuracy seemed way off from normal.
My freshman year of college I saw his legendary year at IU. Hope he works out!
I would have liked to see this with the USC game. He seemed to do a much better job of extending plays in that game.
Will make sure I watch that one!
I couldn’t agree more with your analysis. From just watching the broadcast I thought he was great but after watching that I don’t know if you can take him Day 2 even. Tough outing for sure.
yea you guys are wrong who ever does not take this guy will look dumb
If Davis Mills and Hendon Hooker are day two picks, I suspect Penix will be too.
@@bouji_penix better than both of them combined.
LMAO sounds like the same weird shiit clowns were saying about Justin Herbert
He will be at least a day 2 pick. He just has some concerns
NFL QB Patrick Mahomes claims to be able to throw a football 75-83 yards. The Tennessee Vols Joe Milton claims to be able to throw a football 80-90 yards.
Except Mahomes can actually hit what he’s aiming at
Happy Gilmore could drive it far.
Haha, Joe Milton "the Happy Gilmore of CFB". Haha. But can he do the Bull Dance???
Most underrated football channel on UA-cam
*overrated
No way he’s a backup he has elite accuracy
He is definitely 1st round talent! It’s his medicals that may possibly hold him out the 1st round.
not what the film says
@@Agendasss how ab now 😂
Watch him vs Texas now please. Everything you said he apparently didn’t show you in this breakdown he does it in this game vs Texas.
He will definitely be elite in the NFL
In the 2024 NFL draft, the sleeper quarterback that will probably go a the later round is the Tennessee Vols QB Joe Milton. He is 6-5 and 250 pounds. Is 80 yard football passing long enough?
Can’t wait for the Joe Milton tape
He’s a physical prototype, but accuracy and anticipation are the 2 most important traits for an NFL QB
Not sure...ask JaMarcus Russell. 😂
One word to describe this guy…
Wow.
This is why your a UA-camr and not involved in any real football operations, imagine thinking maye or Willam’s is even near penix level, he’s clearly the best QB in college
side delivery and pocket presence reminds me of a left handed Phil Rivers
Can’t wait to see where he ends up in the NFL
Everything you said about Penix previous games about his not creating has been 100% right, until the Texas game lmao. It’s like he watched this video and heard everything bad you said about him and listened to it. He was extending and making so much offense in that game
That's 40 yards flat footed - no hitch - on a rope. .
What do you consider quick twitch, is a 4.64/40 and 38 inch vertical quick twitch? Those were he numbers from Washington, local reporters say he is very athletic, which is what they saw when he was with Indiana. I think he has become cautious about running due to his injury history.
Take a look at the throw in the forth quarter against Oregon in 2022. Maybe a few NFL quarterbacks could throw that ball.
I seen him read the safties before. On a good number of plays.
Future Atlanta Falcon right there.
HOW HAVEN’T YOU WATCHED HIS FILM YET 😂 YOUR LIKE EVERY HEISMAN VOTER
Joe Milton next??
Or jj McCarthy
Weather you like, love, or hate penix.. be careful with autocorrect
you are not an honest man... just a person that does speak truth.
He’s been in college for SIX years and you’re just NOW looking at the tape??
#CmonMan
He covers NFL in the actual season he doesn’t get to college until the playoffs start
Entering the draft this year genius. 🤡
I’ve been looking forward to this
45:54 Oregon turned them over on downs. Huskies tried to pound it in from close and couldnt convert
Bad analysis
Cant wait for this.
Same head Coach for six years.
Nope.
lets goooo, right on time for Monday
Interesting video. Just curious, what are your credentials? Are you a former college player? Do you have any NFL experience?
Bad take. . . see sugar bowl - his release is elite - up and out - Dan Marino like. . . doesn't need a big windup . . . excellent pocket movement with eyes downfield. The guy carved up Alabama. Watch more than one game next time.
Disagree. Dan Marino?! Lol. Arm looks loopy to me and he has the WIDEST throwing base I've ever seen. Bad take. And I like Penix more than most, fanboys notwithstanding of course. 😂
you are a double talker, the interception was anticipation the receiver
Penix's routine is to drop back and throw it immediately. He has no interest in scrambling or extending plays ala Mahomes or Josh Allen, et al. I think he will need a good line and running game in front of him for this to work in the NFL. This is how NFL QB's played forever, but the model has moved toward the dual-threat style in the past decade. He has a great arm but he will need to be in the right situation.
I think the Falcons get him
how right you were
He is 26 and 2. I hope you have a day job that you are good at.
could you do a short video on his semi finals game?
I think you're completely off the mark on several of these plays. You misunderstand what defense Oregon is running and miss Penix reading through his progressions. Perfect example is 31:37 where you wanted to tear into him about being a backup instead of him going through progessions.
Another thing at 42:40 he doesn't throw it because Odunze had broken his ribs the game before against Arizona. He had to be driven home instead of flying due to a collapsed lung.
Great intel, thanks!
I just think its cool finding player archetypes like its madden 😂
To be clear, i dont think hes going to he as good as tua or that they’re similar level prospects in terms of how highly valued they are as a prospect. I just see the similarities, especially with tuas downfalls
I think penix has ALOT more arm talent especially off platform
@@randomxproductions9594which he does that’s a key difference
They are very similar and that's a great comp. In a dynamic system with good weapons he can work. 2nd round. ...where Tua should've went.
@@FantasySportsZen i think hes at about 2nd round value for sure. But since qbs value is higher, i see a team like the vikings reaching on him in the first, which isnt a bad landing spot. Theres weapons there, JJ, Addison, Hock. Oline is in pretty good shape. Wether they get him in the first or not, i think its a great fit
does anyone know where I can watch film like this?
I see what you mean about the mechanics. It's like his shoulder inserts about an inch too high & his shoulder blade is the only muscle area of his back that gets involved. It's also probably why he doesn't have much power in his throws. I wonder how tall he is?
It feels like a habit he learned from having to throw over everyone. Maybe he wasn't that tall in high school or something. It does feel a little unnatural. & yeah, Rivers was a good comparison.
He's a legit 6'3. Looked about an inch shorter than 6'4 Jayden Daniels at the Heisman Ceremony and about an inch taller than 6'2 Bo NIx.
huh? not much power. . . you see him thread the needle in the Sugar Bowl? bad take. . . that ball is up and out in a hurry. . .
Watch Jaboby Brissett play for the Commanders in week 16 and 17 and you’ll see Penix
EZZ on the “Potential first round” because he probably will go late rounds.
Good review. I'd like to see one on Spencer Rattler'

@@brendonbuffaloe8830 maybe for now wait 2-3 years when penix is in his prime he’ll be elite

That's a good fit. Geno is like 35, c'mon man. They're similar and would make for a nice mentorship too. Seattle's wrs would be great for Penix.
I also said he looked like Brissett and Twitter cooked me LOL glad I’m not the crazy tho
Ok now do the Sugar Bowl
Babe get up, a new film review is here
I think that you are so dead wrong on Penix Jr.
1 Jayden Daniels
2 Micheal Penix Jr
3 Caleb Williams
4 Drake Maye
5 Bo Nix
6 JJ McCarthy
7 Cam Ward
Quinn Ewers shouldn't come out but i still think he is a solid 3rd rounder
Sheduer Sanders is the case of super elite instincts and good ball placement but "ok" physical tools 5th if he came out.
Penix to the Pats!
This wasn’t even his best game 😂
he looks like a left handed jared goff
Thanks!
No, Thank You!
Oddly.. I feel like I'm watching Pete Carroll and Sean mcvay's offense put in one
Pennix and Daniels > Williams and Maye. I think Pennix we'll end up being a falcon, a viking, or a Seahawk.
Please do a breakdown of JJ McCarthy.
Penix would be perfect with the Vikings
Are you doing McCarthy next or moving on to other positions?
Waiting to see if he declares
Kinda didn’t age to well for Texas ‼️
I just clicked and I'm ngl j havent evaled him at all but as a desperate Giants fan I have been thinking about the possibility of him day 2 because of the arm talent as well as one play where he made a check I was watching and created a td or bug gain I cant remember on the ground. Impressive and I'm so fucking sick of Daniel Jones
