After owning the game since release and never truly bothering with it beyond the bog standard "grow, grow, grow, traffic apocalypse, delete" type of playing, this series has rekindled my interest and enjoyment of the game more than I thought possible. You're like the Bob Ross of Cities Skylines content creators. Super chill, extremely informative, and simply fun to watch and learn from. Thanks for these videos and all the effort you put into them. Loving it!

    Thank you for this series!
The graveyard opposite the elderly care, well... 🤣
Anyways, I have the experience that graveyards are often actually directly on a main road.
In olden times when it was around the church, it was also at quite a central location some times, in my experience.
But in C:S it obviously looks better to give it some room.

I've been playing the game since it first came about and I watched several UA-cams to get hints for play. This is the first presenter that I really liked watching because he goes in and really explains the game and the tools. After watching him, I found that I was too much in a hurry to create my cities, when now realizing what's the hurry. Also, the hints for not creating bus stops all over the place and a better network of streets. The one thing I really found helpful was walking paths that it lowers the use of cars because folks will walk or ride bicycles. I look forward to the next video.

Great detailing, as always (though I was constantly hearing CPP in the back of my head saying "... and place the pipes under the roads, where they belong.").
I really hope C:S2 will include water and power with zoneable roads, at least optionally; it's the only sensible place to put it IRL, and it's just a chore to do by hand. Hand-placed pipes and power lines should be reserved for overland connections.

Thanks again for this series. Really helpful. Even though I’ve owned the game almost since it first came out I’ve just recently gotten into playing. I’m afraid I’ve gotten caught up with downloading mods & assets without really knowing what I’m doing. Most other let’s play series are about the glitz. With so many goodies available free in the workshop, it’s easy to get carried away. You are helping me stay focused on going slow and learning. I still cannot get my first intersection/interchange off the highway looking as good as yours though 😂. I noticed that you delete preexisting trees before you zone an area. Why? Is purely aesthetic? I seem to recall reading somewhere that you should do this but I don’t remember why.

One thing that's made my communities look a little cuter, is making smaller neighbourhoods with the streets slightly closer together, and zoning tiny individual boxes. Only one grid mark or 2x2, that develop into teeny tiny houses. It makes for some super cute little communities set apart from the HD residential zones and the bigger LD 4x4 houses.

My Recommendation for DLC... Start with the below order.
Some Unique Building to start within your city.
    > Park Life (Boost Land Value)
    > Industry (Boost your Money)
    > Campus (Boost your Education and go for Industry 4.0 policy)
    > Green City aND After Dark (create Tourist Destination to be serviced by Airport and remove Poops in your River :D )
    > Airport (At this point you would have 50-60K population) (would love your separate introduction video when released)
    > Mass Transit (improve the efficiency of the Transport)

  • @AlexeyChrome
    @AlexeyChrome 2 роки тому +1

    About first DLC:
IMO it will be interesting to leave Parklife, Green Cities, Campus, Sunset Harbor and Industies (and sunset harbor) for later. Because they provide a LOT of gameplay features and unic details such fencies and park lots (for example) that will be used in each next series.
Instead my suggestion is to start with the DLCs that content is used less often, like natural disaster, mass transit, after dark. This will definitely be a challenge as you will have to do without a bunch of powerful tools in the game. But it will become really interesting and unusual. Also, it will give even more interest to people who only own the base game, as much of what is used in these DLCs can be "replaced" by the contents of the base game.
Also, I haven't seen anyone make a series without the most powerful DLCs with at least 5,000 sims.
If this is not acceptable within the training series, then please consider this scheme for a challenge run series or stream. For example, it would be possible to set conditions to reach the "Big City" milestone without using the DLCs and with the maximum variety and detail of the city at the same time.

    Keep up the fantastic work

This would be a great point to discuss how the demand meters differ from info-views and graphs, like for unemployment rates being a basis to decide *not* to zone more C or I even when there is demand to avoid any of the "Not enough .." related issues..
The sugar maple tree is pollution tolerant in the game - the only one.
As for DLCs, I'd suggest the new vehicles pack so you can talk about all those lovely new models, their benefits, and how to choose the best capacity for the line in question (or just have the super long bendy buses and double deckers everywhere).

Ahhh, another good video, and the feeling when starting up a new city of setting up the first busline is always good.
And what I really like about your videos in particular is the way you decorate your city.
As for DLC you should do first/next, I would go:
    Parklife
    After Dark
    Industries
    Mass Transit
Thinking a bit about how/when the things in the different DLC would fit into building up a new city, I would say the two first I mentioned have some fun/nice things to plop in, then when the city has grown a little Industries would be a natural one to start with, and when we hit the mark where more people needs to be moved around by other things than busses, we should start using Mass Transit.
    Just my idea

  • @cukka99

    Great as always.
[Edit: I can't seem to replicate this behavior in my current city. I wonder if I had some mod(s) that allowed it in my previous cities. Who knows.] One thing about walking paths not quite meeting up at nodes when you're snaking them through zoned buildings: I believe you don't have to connect them at nodes. If you bring them close to one another such that they visually connect, I believe cims do walk on from one to the other, kind of the same way you bring them close to roads and they visually as well as functionally connect.

Don't know how big your city is, but what most people tend to do is keep expanding the industry in the same place.
The roads can only handle a certain amount of traffic, so keep spreading your industry in pockets across your city.
If you don't everybody from everywhere in the city needs to go to that one spot, not only the people going to their job,
but also all the goods from your commercial are moving through there. So when you notice traffic starting to get heavy,
stop building there and find a new spot. Or you could try giving them some alternate access routes, which are faster to some
      so traffic will split more.

As far as commercial goes, some of the higher level buildings really don't fit. Low density shouldn't go beyond 2-3 stories.

Is the intro song a new one? Either way, I like it.

Egg, this isn't Ilos? This is something new running concurrently? I'm just in from work, but will have a watch regardless.

It's not, it is the new vanilla city, it started last week :)

@@OVERCHARGEDEGG OK, well I’ll have a watch very shortly. Last week I caught up with FewCandy’s stuff and also started watching a Spanish C:S player called R4pela (although I don’t understand much as he speaks at a rate of knots).

Watching this just makes me conclude that I have no personality when building my city, I guess I'm just a boring fella

Thanks for this series. I will try to follow along in my world (at least until I'll come to a point where I miss a DLC as I don't have all of them), but I do wonder if there are more parts of the city in the upcoming videos (the playlist contains 55 at the moment writing this) that's being skipped and been build without mentioning the video like the one showed at 50:18 ?

@32:00 What was the cool trick with Bus Stations you were going to show us but never did? Another thing to note down the line when you have city parks is that you can monetise the pathways with small park side gates. The park pathways through my current playthrough net $20k income weekly.

I recommend biking highways, if you have after dark dlc. Its the best public transport in the game.
