the hair is in homage to Priscilla Presley who wore it like that a lot. The back leather outfit she's wearing is in homage to Elvis and the guitar is the same guitar a Elvis used in his iconic 1968 tour. The red outfit on Rob Christie, fabulous pianist who is Angelina's mentor at Republic Records (although I just recently heard that he was quoted as saying that Angelina is actually mentoring him.
The song was written by Mark James. In the Wikipedia entry of the origins of the song, he is said to have remarked "That late one night, he was fooling around on his Fender guitar and using his Hammond organ pedals for a bass line and came up with what he thought was a catchy melody. At the time, he was married to his first wife but still had feelings for his childhood sweetheart, who was married back in Houston. James's wife had suspicions about his feelings. He felt it was a confusing time for him and that all three were "caught in this trap that they could not walk out of."
Other singers covering this song invariably base their performance on that of Elvis, in that it is very "upbeat". Angelina took a very different path in that she read and understood the lyrics and what Mark James intended when writing them . To my mind, her rendition is much truer to the emotions of the song.
The children appearing in the video were Angelina's cousins Aurora (first) and then Athena - daughters of her uncle Michael Astar, and then her sister Juliette. I would hazard a guess that they were included to emphasise that children are very important to Angelina and her family.
Confession! I have never been a great fan of Elvis Presley, although I do like some of his earlier recordings, and I had never heard of the song "Suspicious minds" but knew that Angelina would completely take ownership of it, and she did. It was beautiful. After listening to it several times, I decided to download the lyrics to see whether she kept to the original structure. She didn't, and the song is all the better for it. For me, that she started with the Bridge of the song is very significant and, I feel, very indicative of Angelina's "up front" transparency. She was declaring that it was important that their love did not die, and then carries on to say why she feels as she does. Others first say how they feel and then, almost as an afterthought, assure their love they don't want it to end. For me, it is whether I feel the singer is genuine about the situation and wishes it could be resolved or whether the singer understands the situation but thinks the blame is on her/his partner but feels the need to assure them they don't want it to end (until somebody else comes along).

There's a lot of intentional symbolism here -- the black leather suit pays tribute to Elvis' black leather performance in his "1968 Comeback Special," along with the red guitar he used in part of that production. The beehive hair is a tribute to Priscilla Presley (and the trend among ladies of that era). Taking the sheets off the antiques -- first the chair, then the mirror, then the piano -- was, I believe, her way of saying, "Take a seat; let me take you through the looking glass into the past; and listen to me honor a legend with my song." The red suit of Rob Christie, pianist and 2-time Grammy winner (executive at Republic Records) is reminiscent of the red often worn by Elvis' musicians. The young girls symbolize the progression of Angelina from babyhood (literally!) to toddler to young pre-teen, to the present (with the customary white dresses she wore in many of her earlier performances), surrounded by, and learning from the classics (portrayed by the antiques) and classical artists of the past up to the present. Coming into the shop clicking those boots on the floor with "attitude", but then singing in her bare feet, I feel that she's saying, "Okay, I've come to "Take care of business" (Elvis' motto), but then humbly does it with the powerful, yet sweet delivery while honoring her vow to never wear shoes in a performance until all the impoverished children of the world have shoes and other necessities of life! Take care of yourself, Sabina! P.S. -- She is currently on tour in her homeland of Norway after being unable to give live concerts for three years. There are many videos of these outdoor performances that have inundated UA-cam in the past several days. Hope you can react to some (especially her performances in her first concert at "Allsang pa Grensen" annual festival at the Norwegian-Swedish border castle fortress. She sang "I Have Nothing" and her version of "Bohemian Rhapsody"! Stunning!

Sabina, In the beginning credits it shows that Mery Zamani is the executive producer. Mery is Angelina’s grandmother, whom also happens to be Angelina greatest creative influence. The two smallest children are her uncle Michael’s daughters. Michael is also Angelina’s manager. The older child is Angelina’s sister, Juliette. The children were incorporated to represent the evolution of Angelina’s chronological development.
Everything about this production, from the cinematic beauty, musical arrangement, Angelina’s vocal performance, pianist, Rob Christie’s brilliant accompaniment and Angelina’s period correct appearance pay homage to Elvis and his wife Pricilla’s bee hive hair style. It’s not a stretch to think that Elvis would have been very impressed with this performance.
There is gold. There is platinum. There is diamond. Then there is, Angelina whom is a very rare and precious gem. I’ve always said that Angelina’s voice has a healing affect on us.

The hairstyle is called "The Beehive" popular back then and Priscilla sported it often. Angelina is blessed with the ability to finds emotions she's yet experienced, she interprets the lyrics as almost a plea... And genius ornament of speaking with a whisper "You know I'd never lie to you". She makes you marvel, makes tears well up in your eyes, and after a deep breath you have to smile when you feel like she just strung stars around your heart ... What a blessing and LIGHT she is in this world!! PEACE!!
At the concert on the 10th July she was amazing. In the afternoon before it started she did a sound check which was more like a mini concert. Sang the Whitney Huston song twice and several others. She was wearing a leather jacket and jeans with her hair down. Was very relaxed and waved and smiled at us as we watched.
The direction is amazing. Notice how Angelina's every position is part of the Elvis guitar playing rocker era, from the initial walkon, then guitar to the rear, then guitar slung on hip gunslinger style to the position changes as she strums the guitar.
Her facial expression showing disappointment "... when you don't believe a word I say", is heart wrenching and produces ten times more meaning and emotion than anyone else, including Elvis.
EVERY move, expression, word and position is on point.
My interpretation of the symbolism of this music video:
First, and foremost; Angelina Jordan at 16 is the epitome of a Storytelling ARTIST, and she has the ability to take us by the hand and lead us down an imaginary path that we visualize as reality. The remarkable fact is that we experience this in each of her performances. In this video we see her as a married woman in her mid to late 20s. As AJ sings the phrase “Were caught in a trap, I can’t walk out” we see 3 small children, this to me is a marriage where the children come first. If it were AJ by herself, she would not stay in a relation without trust.
A Norwegian lady I think. Her voice is more akin to someone who is older but with considerable tone and style…tone and style that really suited this songs arrangement. What a beautiful start musically to a Sunday morning. Sabina..a look of awe and wonder during the performance..loved it.

I really like that she is embracing her height. Most girls at that age are awkward and try to diminish their height. Then she also has the Bee-hive Do all that makes her 7'0" tall.
Those opening notes slay me every time. I have yet to make it past them without crying. This must be my 50th seeing the reactor videos. Add to that the 50 times I've watched by myself and I've shed a lot of tears, and I've enjoyed every minute of it.

Angelina pays tribute to Elvis by wearing leather, blue suede boots that can be seen when she’s sitting on the loveseat, and she wore her hair the way Priscilla Presley did when she was married to Elvis. Also, I read somewhere that the guitar she used was actually Elvis’ on loan to her for this video ♥️🇨🇦♥️

There will be so many new things to react to shortly. I agree - the depth and strength in AJ's incredible tone has improved significantly over the past year or so. And she's still only 16. Incredible. I got a solid set of goosebumps starting with her first note, all the way through this to the end. She tells the story of this song in such a unique way - in almost a pleading, whisper at times. So moving. Suspicion is a relationship destroyer. Absolutely what I expected. She made this her own song and she did it beautifully. I noticed Juliet sitting there she is going to be as beautiful as Angelina one day.
Elvis' version is great and it always was, and it still is one of my favorites. but Angelina's version is equally great and is definitely her own.
When I first heard this song I loved it and put it at #3 on my playlist (Angelina Jordan Playlist by Terry M.), about midday I moved it up to #1. The main thing that changed my mind was the power in her voice. I'm not talking about loudness I'm talking about the power she has regardless of how loud or soft she sings. This is a quality that I haven't heard from anyone in my 82 years. This voice has become so unique that it is totally unmatched.
Her phrasing in the last bridge is great. And she got Elvis’s ‘Oh Yea’ at the end of the song.
The pianist is Rob Christie (3 Grammys), he is the head of the Republic Record department that is responsible for Angelina and other singers.
The two small kids are her uncle Mike's kids, and the older girl is Angelina's sister.

Yeah, that opening line is slaying everybody. So rich, full, warm and the meaning is like shes singing about your heart and life. A straight forward solid sound with no fry and perfectly placed little runs. I think its a glimpse of her adult voice. Her voice is premium rich quality unlike any other. Great reaction. Its interesting to see what affect she’s having on our lives collectively. Our lives are better and it shows as we continue to dhow up for our dose of Angelina.

This vocal arrangement was all Angelina, I have no doubt in collaboration with a stellar team including Rob Christie & Mery Zamani her Grandmother. She is a Master Storyteller. The video is shot in the same Antique Store that she did 'My Funny Valentine' on Valentine’s Day. I believe it is in LA near her home. I believe the girls in the video represent Angelina's Journey from infancy to present through the classics of music history. Thus the Antique store, She grew up studying and performing these classics. Did you notice that right foot raise it''s heal to cradle the guitar a couple of times in the performance. I was waiting for her to throw in a little shake to it in homage to the King. Could that have been intentional? That is Rob Christie on piano. Sister Juliette and a couple of Uncle Michael's Babies. Sabina, I agree entirely with you Angelina's voice is like butter! This video was a family production, her Grandma Mery was the ex-producer, along with her sister Juliette and her Uncle Michael's daughters. Also includes Rob Christie, Grammy Award Republic Records Studio Director playing the piano. The video is filled with symbolism of the late Sixties from Priscilla Presley's Beehive hairdo, to Elvis Presley Black leather jumpsuit and Red guitar.
The entire video, the staging, the direction, the costuming, the music, and of course the incredible voice of Angelina, was a loving tribute to Elvis. I have nothing to discuss with you when it comes to Angelina. I think you are just as much of a fan of her as I am myself and we obviously see and hear the same things. But I have heard something today that you didn't. I just came home from her last concert here in Norway, and that is the most incredible musical experience I have ever had. She is so incredibly talented that there really is no point in trying to describe it. Words fall short. It's something that needs to be experienced first hand, on a soul-to-soul level. hi Sabina - i just left her concert in Sandefjord - i was about 3m close to her - she was singing 17 Songs including Suspicious Minds - to see her that close while she spoke to the audience between Songs and even got emotional - so i have been tearing up along with her - holy boly her voice is so unbeliaveble powerful - you feel it so intensive even she is not belting to much but every word is like being hammered in your head and you cant forget it - it is so crazy because you have to wait so long time planning your journey and then a few hours and done.... i already miss her now knowing soon she will depart to Japan - maybe the next concert in Europe will be After her beeing promoted from Republic Records and all world wants to see her - i will never get the chance to see her that close again

Yes, I think we just saw some of the healing power that comes from Angelina. The production was well crafted, grandma made sure that all her grandchildren had a part! The voice is getting better, the expressiveness has always been there, it's just that she has more flexibility in the delivery. In the concerts, certainly at Sandefjord, the crowd gave such an atmosphere, it was like a family event, but with nearly 2000 members of her extended family! Singing live, she shone, at the last concert she was only crying between the songs, her happy tears, but no worry , tears dry on their own...

There were a lot of homages paid in this setting... Elvis style come back to her outfit and black, I think someone said the boots were blue suede shoes.... Same style guitar Is that Elvis used, Priscilla Presley hairdo... And even the tone of Angelina's makeup made her look a lot like the flesh tone of Elvis and at times she looked like a daughter of Elvis....

Sabina, I don't mean this in the form of criticism but, to me, I don't see Angelina improving. Rather, I believe she is always honing her skills with her voice which, as you said, is getting darker and so much more magnificent. She's evolving, not improving. Improving suggests she was lacking in some areas. Sabina, to me, the only time I can apply the word improve to anything she has done is, perhaps, when she was between the ages 3 and 7 !!!!!!!

The Hagstrom Red Guitar used in this video is a modern up to date copy of the one Elvis used in 1968.
The Hagstrom Red Guitar belonged to musician Al Casey, a member of Elvis’ backing band during the special in 1968. According to an accompanying letter from Casey, he was asked to let Elvis use the guitar by the producers, as they "thought it would look beautiful on camera and with the set."
Elvis Presley’s 1942 Martin D-18 acoustic guitar may have recently sold for $1.32 million, but fear not - another of the King’s axes, this one his cherry-red Hagstrom Viking II electric guitar, famous for its use in the legendary '68 Comeback Special, is hitting the block.
The semi hollow instrument is a highlight of Kruse GWS Auctions’ Artifacts of Hollywood & Music auction, which begins on March 27. It's being offered with a starting bid of $250,000.
