Without scrolling through all the comments, I'm sure others have mentioned (but if not) that the hairstyle was in honor of Priscilla Presley, Elvis's wife when this was recorded by him. Amy Winehouse wouldn't be born until 15 years later. I don't know how this reaction escaped from being in my recommendations until now, but my eyes lit up and I got a huge smile when I saw it. I have heard Elvis's version many times but never actually heard the words and the meaning until Angelina did her interpretation. Just 16 years old, and in my opinion, already a star,

Elvis had a number one hit in 1969 with Suspicious Minds ..he is enshrined as a rock legend & it took 53 years for someone to come along and take that version to the next level...here it is..Angelina Jordan Astar ..a voice for the ages....
Great reaction. I am privileged to be one of the first commenters. A couple of points that might be helpful. Ironically, given your comments about tribute acts, this is a bit of a tribute act, but in a good way. Not Amy Winehouse hair, she did not invent the beehive; Priscilla Presley hair, with Elvis’s outfit from the ‘68 Comeback Special. And his guitar from the same show. And the pianist is wearing the same outfit as his band from the same show. She literally blows the dust (did you see it fly off the piano’s dust sheet?) off an old classic.

Hi 👋 you 2. Giving you an update. Angelina released her 1st official single from RR on May 5th called "Love don't let me go". Angie said she wrote it about LOVE itself and not about being in love but her talking to LOVE itself. Deep lyrics for a 17 yr old. Her album will be released between June and Fall of 2023.

John Do you have any evidence that it's the guitar that Elvis actually used and that Rob is the owner?
@@103mrg Rob Christie posted on his Instagram that it is his guitar. I don't think he indicated that it was the same one Elvis used. But, he also posted comparison photos of his guitar and the one Elvis used (borrowed) and they sure seem to exactly match.

By slowing the temple down, the lyrics tell the story better than the original faster temple song. The use of symbolism from Elvis's leather jumpsuit and red guitar used in his come-back concert in 1968, to Priscilla's beehive hairdo. Once again Angelina Jordan has shown her brilliant storytelling in song!

Ladys, it seems, this marks the end of Angelinas school days/videos, as seen with her younger relatives playing her. It seems, we art starting a new chapter with her. Her concerts in Norway, Japan, bringing out her new album after returning. We "angels" are pretty sure, now will come the TV shows, Talk shows....the whole caboodle. Stay safe, stay happy and stay tuned, there are already performances of her in Norway on YOU TUBE.

She is only 16, so her progression is still on an upward curve, maybe for another 10 years?! You’re right that, she has grown a LOT in the last 2 years. She has also been under the mentoring of Rob Christie (the pianist here and 2x Grammy award), studio director of Republic Records in LA. Being their high priority new artist, she has had every facility laid at her feet, and she has taken full advantage of it all. They are letting her go where she wants to, they know they have a phenomenal artist on their books.
Like with Mother .. that opening line sent goosebumps up many an arm!

There's a picture of (age about 1-2) baby Lisa Marie Presley on a golden couch like
Angie's cousin sat on with a white dress. There was one of Lisa also (when she’s
about 3) with white dress & she had curls like Angie’s other cousin Athena had (from
her uncle Michael's kids). Plus it acted as a double for us watching Angie growing up.
Her sister Juilette was the older one in the white dress like Angie was in, when she was
10-12 before she changed at 13 & her, her mom Sara & grandma Mery made clothes for
her performances. (Angie made it modern & nostalgic at the same time. She’s emotes
the story, for she is a true master story teller)
The black jumpsuit & red guitar is for the welcome back tour in 1968. The hair was for Priscilla his wife, also Angie sitting on the couch. Chandeliers, mirrors & furniture was
for Graceland, the Piano player Rob Christie wearing red like Elvis band members & you'll even see that Angie's (Elvis stance) put her leg out & bent like Elvis did. Angelina did a lot of homework & paid a lot of respect & gave us a lot of Easter eggs & there’s
still more. As she usually does on her videos. Angelina is just amazing, beyond words
& other singers/writers/artists/people.

Loved the song, your reaction, and Angelina. Even though most people say the hair reminds them of Priscilla, which it does, I think Elvis had a lot to do with the way Priscilla wore her hair. So for me, I believe Angelina looks like Elvis as a female.

Ladies, wonderful to have you return for another entertaining reaction to Angelina Jordan. Yesterday, Angelina performed the first of 3 full concerts in Norway so the angels are busy watching videos from that show. I think this cover of Suspicious Minds is among Angelina's best.

Angelina has an amazing ability to make you forget the original she covers. I have almost always preferred her versions. Those first notes give me chills even after watching her sing it over 20 times.
Facts: Leather outfit is the same one Elvis wore during his special, Red guitar is the same one used during the special, the piano player is wearing the red jumper the band wore and the piano player is Angelina's mentor / record label CEO.. The two young girls are her cousins and the 3rd older girl is her sister. Also, the hairdo is the same beehive Priscilla Presley wore.

Angelina’s grandmother produced all of this, down to the tiniest detail. The filming was very good. Every time I watch, their is something else. There are 2 mirrors on the wall that show her reflection. I love the bell on the door. So much period detail.

I actually understood the meaning of the song . She is such a gift , a true story teller .
I've listened to Angelina's rendition probably ten times. I just can't get enough of her artistry. At the beginning of the video---prefaced by the hollow echo of her bootsteps---it's like she is physically stepping back in time when she removes the sheets from the old chair and mirror. More so when the dusty sheet is removed from the old, beat-up piano. Coupled with her 60s retro Priscilla hairdo, black leather Elvis outfit, and cherry red electric guitar---all are reminiscent of a more innocent, bygone era. I can think of no other vocalist than Angelina Jordan who has the artistry to present such a hauntingly beautiful interpretation of Suspicious Minds.

The Hagstrom Red Guitar used in this video is a modern up to date copy of the one Elvis used in 1968.
The Hagstrom Red Guitar belonged to musician Al Casey, a member of Elvis’ backing band during the special in 1968. According to an accompanying letter from Casey, he was asked to let Elvis use the guitar by the producers, as they "thought it would look beautiful on camera and with the set."

Elvis Presley’s 1942 Martin D-18 acoustic guitar may have recently sold for $1.32 million, but fear not - another of the King’s axes, this one his cherry-red Hagstrom Viking II electric guitar, famous for its use in the legendary '68 Comeback Special, is hitting the block.
The semi hollow instrument is a highlight of Kruse GWS Auctions’ Artifacts of Hollywood & Music auction, which begins on March 27. It's being offered with a starting bid of $250,000.

The beehive hairstyle was to honor Priscilla Presley and the time period she met Elvis. She had the red guitar and the black outfit…one of Elvis famous looks! I was not expecting this! This was almost 4 minutes, but it flew by and felt short! Going to listen to it again! 16 years old….Wow!!! What a performance!

Yes Angelina is growing up - she brings out the meaning of the song like no other. She does indeed make it appear to be her own song. She has so much respect for Elvis, the outfit and the guitar, so well accompanied by Rob Christie (Republic Records Director) on Piano. Very well produced video, her Grandma was the producer - perhaps that why all four of her grandchildren were included! Angelina is currently giving live outdoor concerts in Norway, I hope that later she will give some concerts in London. Of course, all this needs to fit in with the school holidays - she is still only 16. I can't even begin to imagine what she will be like when she is 18 or 21...

I agree with your comment that Angelina is not inspired by other singers only to the extent that no other singer is capable of doing what she does … I think Angelina’s strength is taking inspiration from every other singer. She learns from them all and creates a toolkit of every technique she ever heard, and when she sings she pulls out whatever tool is needed at any particular moment for painting a beautiful song. She has all the paint brushes, and brush strokes, and colors from the preceding masters that she has ever heard and uses them instantly without hesitation. I think she has an idyllic memory for sound, and perfect pitch, and an internal metronome, and she sings spontaneously, planning ahead dynamically in her mind how the sounds will flow (like a chess grandmaster plans ahead his moves). And she sings from the soul, fully immersed in the song.

Elvis' version is great and it always was, and it still is one of my favorites. but Angelina's version is equally great and is definitely her own.
When I first heard this song I loved it and put it at #3 on my playlist (Angelina Jordan Playlist by Terry M.), about midday I moved it up to #1. The main thing that changed my mind was the power in her voice. I'm not talking about loudness I'm talking about the power she has regardless of how loud or soft she sings. This is a quality that I haven't heard from anyone in my 82 years. This voice has become so unique that it is totally unmatched.
The pianist is Rob Christie (3 Grammes), he is the head of the Republic Record department that is responsible for Angelina and other singers.
The two small kids are her uncle Mike's kids, and the older girl is Angelina's sister.

Angelina always arranges her covers herself and can change her vocals to suit anything she covers, they say Angelina has a thousand different voices, the first two little girls in the video are Angelina’s cousins her managers children, the eldest girl is Angelina’s sister Juliette, Angelina’s hair a tribute to Pricilla Presley hair, the black outfit and red guitar a tribute to Elvis , great reaction thanks 🙏, Angelina is currently performing live shows in her born country Norway !

I lover your reactions to Angelina, they are so honest and emotional. Also helpful that you only do them every once in a while, so we never get bored. Angelina's version is (I fully agree) better than Elvis, better sung, more sincere, darker, very very crisp in terms of tone. Simply stunning. We are hearing perhaps the BEST singer of this generation, astounding, every time.

The visuals are gorgeous: she uncovers beautiful pieces from the past an her cousins and sister give a nice sense of time passing. Beautiful Elvis imagery as well rhinestone boots, the mic, the costumes, the guitar and Priscilla beehive.
She really makes me feel the sad story where suspicion and distrust kills love. Elvis amazing performance always had me doubt he was really bothered being caught in a trap and such :-)

In many of Angelina's covers, she will pay tribute tto the artists of the songs she covers. In this one, she is extending homage to Elvis. She also does her arrangements or, at least, has very much input into the way her music is done. In this case, she departed from Elvis by slowing the tune down and singing it in a way the lyrics actually ask for. Elvis made it a virtual pop "dance" tune even though the lyrics are a sad, emotional and heartbreaking tale of an impending breakup and lost love. Angelina sings the song as it should be performed.
This was Elvis's last number one song.
In this video she is dressed as Elvis was in his " '68 Comeback Special" TV program. Leather from top to bottom. Her hair is done up in a "bee hive" style that Elvis liked his wife Pricilla to wear.
The red guitar is a contemporary Hagstrom reproduction of a 1967 Viking II. Elvis had borrowed it from Al Casey, one of the session musicians of the Comeback Special band. The original guitar recently sold at auction for over $660,000.
The piano and mic are like the ones in the Sun studio in Memphis, where Elvis started his recording career. The piano player is Rob Christie, a studio exec at her label, Republic Records.
The young girl(s), Angelina's relatives, are a nod to Elvis's and Pricilla's kid, Lisa Marie, may God love her soul. The last segment of the children shows Angelina's sister, Juliette, as a 9 year old Lisa Marie. That was how old Lisa was when her dad died. Many reactors guess that the children in this video denotes Angelina growing up, but all the symbolisms is about Elvis and not Angelina.
There is a short segment of Angelina reposing on a couch. She is wearing what look like mismatched shoes. One is blue suede, yes?
Many of the antique shop artifacts, particularly the old red fabric chair in the background seem "fit for a king".

Angelina is amazing! Her voice has matured even more so; there's such a richness in her voice, so evident in this performance. This is a beautiful tribute to the memory of Elvis Presley, the silver and gold props, her leather outfit, and the red guitar and suit worn by the piano player. I think she is also paying tribute to Priscilla Presley with the bouffant hair style. Going down memory lane with their only daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, from toddler on up; I am assuming the reason for the little girls at different ages.
